3. 𝐃𝐘𝐋𝐀𝐍

𝘋𝘺𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯𝘴𝘰𝘯'𝘴 𝘗𝘖𝘝 :

I blew the blonde hair that hung down in my face as I sat against the door of a car outside, I looked around when my sister Layla finally came back from another car next to the one I sat against. " took you long enough " I spoke as she shook her head.

" we have enough gas to last us a day or two " she held a red gas jug down to her side as she opened the door before placing it onto the ground in the passenger seat side, " Oakley? " I questioned before she gulped a bit holding her tears back.

" I have no idea " she picked up her backpack and threw it over her shoulder as I did the same to the backpack that laid right next to me, we were able to get some supplies to last us a night. I took my knife out of my pocket when one of those things came right for me, " not looking so good sweetheart " I spoke to the female that was growling at me.

I stabbed the top of her head before her body fell down onto the side of the ditch, " stop flirting with zombies " Layla scoffed before opening the car door and hopping into it, " what it's fun " I chuckled before hopping into the passenger seat.

I stared out the window for a good while of the drive watching as the school slowly faded away from existence, I stared at the groups of zombies that ran around near by and hung out in groups. " it's the end of the world isn't it? " I turned my head over when Layla nibbled at her bottom lip, " who knows " she spoke softly before turning down a street.

We needed to find somewhere to go or else we would be dead meat without any shelter before we could go to a refugee camp at all, " there " I pointed out to a cabin not to far away in the woods above the street, " perfect " Layla smiled over before driving up the road and towards the cabin that sat on top of the hill in the woods.

Just as she parked she looked at me and nodded we decided to leave the gas jugs inside of the car as Layla took the keys out so nobody could steal it, it was the only good car we have gotten so far and it would suck to lose it so early.

I grabbed my backpack as I hopped out of the vehicle just as Layla walked around the car, " be careful " she spoke to me as I nodded at her slightly. I took my knife out and headed up the steps with her shortly behind me, " clear them out one by one " I said as I raddled the door handled before it actually opened.

I peeked my head in before fully walking in as Layla went a different way through the house their wasn't any zombies yet inside until I walked into the kitchen to a zombie that had jumped at me from the counter. " shit! " I called out as I kicked the zombie back with my foot which caused myself to tumble onto the ground.

My knife had fallen to the side of me as the zombie climbed on top of me and was growling in my face as I held its neck back away from me, I glanced over as I gritted my teeth before reaching as far as I could over to my knife. I finally felt the handle on the tip of my fingers as I was able to wrap my hand around it.

I looked back at the zombie with a smirk, " adios amigo " I said before stabbing it into the side of its head, I kicked the zombie off of me and was panting from being out of breath. They were much more stronger then I thought.

" are you okay? " Layla sprinted over quickly from around the corner, " yeah I'm fine " I slowly stood up fully, would have been a lot easier if she helped me out but oh well. At least I'm not dead yet that's the good thing.

She quickly pulled me in for a hug and I held onto her a little confused to why she was hugging me, " what was that about? " I backed away a little bit more confused. " I already lost Oak I can't lose you to " she spoke softly and formed a little bit of a smile on my face.

" we'll find Oak " I said knowing that my sister has to be alive out there and that we can't just give up yet on looking for her, " hopefully " she mumbled before opening a door to the basement, she glanced over at me and nodded for a signal to go down into the basement. I took my flashlight out and shined the light down the stairs.

The two of us stepped on each step as the wood creaked beneath our shoes, finally we made it to the last step as I lightly landed onto the basement floor, I went one way as Layla went the other way we began searching for any zombies or any things we could bring upstairs with us.

Their were no zombies in the basement as we found a few battery's and supplies we decided to bring upstairs into the main part of the house, it appears we have decided to make this place our temporarily home until we find better.

The last place we have to check is upstairs, so I walked up the stairs as the wood steps also creaked beneath my shoes Layla began slowly following behind me not wanting me to go upstairs alone after the zombie attack in the kitchen, " this seems fine " I spoke softly as the house wasn't even that bad of a house.

" true " she agreed as we did the same thing going separate ways, I put my ear to the different doors each time before opening them in case I hear any movement inside the rooms, I checked each of my rooms that didn't have any zombies. I turned my head over when I heard a lot of commotion going on in one of the rooms Layla was in.

I walked in as Layla stabbed a zombie in the head the body slowly falling to the left side of her as she glanced over at me, " we're you bit? " I questioned as she shook her head. " good " I said before walking out of the bedroom she were in.

Everything was now clear of zombies, which was a good thing since we needed to be as safe as we could. This was better then falling asleep in a car last night, me and Layla were walking around for the whole day and decided to fall asleep in a car yesterday. Shockingly we didn't get attacked.

We started settling in to our new place making it better then it was before, Layla sat in the kitchen as she was fixing her black pistol she held in her hand while I was outside after dragging the two dead zombies outside into the backyard. I dragged them down towards this lake area near by, don't worry I brought weapons for safety.

I picked up a shovel that I had found near the shed in the back yard along the way and used one of the zombies body's that I dragged as a little sled to hold the shovel onto. I began shoving the shovel into the ground and digging a hole, I placed my foot on top of it to push it deeper into the damp soil.

Usually I would just throw the body's into the lake but I guessed that if anyone was dead they'd wanna be buried like a regular funeral, so that's what I did for these people. I rubbed the sweat off of my forehead as I began digging the first hole still, " what are you doing? " Layla walked over as she whispered to me while looking around.

" farming? " I joked before she glanced at the two zombies, " your digging a hole for these zombies? " she raised an eyebrow and looked at me as if I was being absolutely crazy, " yes Layla, yes I am " I nodded proud of myself for doing this.

" why can't you just throw them in the lake? " she put her hand out motioning a throwing way towards the lake, " because I'm giving these fine people here a proper funeral " I had a smirk formed on my face as I continued digging. " alright then just don't kill yourself " she turned around and began walking back up the grass.

I shoved the shovel into the ground next to me as I grabbed one of the zombies and slowly dragged it to the hole, I tossed it carefully into the hole not wanting to make any more sounds. " there ya go honey " I joked as I stared at the zombie in the hole. " well sleep tight " I said again as I grabbed the shovel and pushed all the dirt back into the hole, once I finished I patted it smoothly down.

I looked over at the other zombie that laid on the ground still, " alright your turn " I breathed in before shoving the shovel into the soil and digging it, it got a little hotter outside as I wiped more sweat off of my forehead, I finally had finished digging the hole as I shoved my shovel again into the ground next to it.

I dragged the zombie slowly dropping it into the hole before throwing the dirt back into it, just as I finished I patted it down smoothly again before turning around and looking at the forest around.

" whoever lived here had such a beautiful place " I sighed before picking up the shovel and walking back up towards the house, I walked up the steps as I opened the screen door and headed towards the kitchen. I placed the shovel down and sat next to Layla at the counter.

" still trying to get that to work? " Dylan pointed at the radio that sat next to Layla as she was filling her gun with bullets, " yes " she said a little annoyed that she couldn't get it to work still. " also try not to use this, it attracts them " Layla lifted her pistol up as I nodded my head.

I looked in the fridge seeing that whoever lived here still had a decent amount of food that was still good, and with the little bits of food me and Layla have in our bags this would most likely last us about 4 ish days before we have to go get more from the super markets around.

" let's try and save food and water " I closed the fridge before looking at Layla who looked like she was in a deep thought, " Lay? " I said as she looked up at me. " sorry just thinking of where Oakley could be " she had tears forming in her eyes as this whole time I've just been trying not to think of Oakley or show any pain at all.

" she could still be in the school " I spoke as I stared at my sister who thought about it, " dead or alive I don't know " my voice broke a bit trying to think of Oakley who could be in the school as a man eating zombie or just a sweet innocent girl.

" I'll go to the school tomorrow " Layla sighed before getting up and putting the gun into her back pocket of her jeans, " by yourself? " I looked at her crazy, the school and the city were both the two worse places to be in the apocalypse.

" yes by myself Dylan " she said softly in her voice as i shook my head, " no I'll go with you " I protested as she bit her bottom lip. " no you have to stay here Dylan and i mean it! " she pointed her finger at me as I knew I couldn't argue with her, she knows that if we both go it's either both of us die or one of us make it out alive.

" please just listen to me for once, this is for your safety not mine! " she stuttered a bit as she spoke Layla was the kind of sister that was always a leader for people, she always put herself before anyone else even in a world wide apocalypse.

" and if Oakley somehow stumbles upon here you keep her here and you keep her safe until I come back! " she continued speaking to me as she threw her blonde hair up in a high pony tail, " what if you don't come back? " I felt a lump in my throat as I tried not to cry at all.

" then you keep moving on without me okay you got that? No matter what you keep doing what you have to do to beat this stupid world! " she placed her hands on her head as she stared blankly at me, " fine, I promise " I nodded.
