TRIGGER WARNING: PANIC ATTACK

THE DAY BEFORE HAD BEEN HECTIC.

For everyone besides Violet, at least.

Because whilst Damon was trying to help Jeremy and Matt who were being chased by new vampires turned and compelled by Klaus. Along with, later, Kol coming in and threatening to tear off Jeremy's arm only to be convinced by Klaus not to and instead found a loophole and compelled Damon to kill him instead. And when all of that was done, Stefan apparently slept with Rebekah.

And where was Violet during all of this? She was stuck inside of her house after being compelled by Rebekah to stay away, an order from Klaus himself.

Because although the siblings weren't really talking, the one thing they will always agree on is the safety of the small human that had stolen their hearts. Romantically and platonically.

It was not a fun experience, having to sit–pace–around at home while the people you care most about are risking their lives. At the end of the day, Violet basically had no fingernails from anxiously chewing on them for so long.

Violet hadn't felt her anxiety kick up like this in so long, not since Alaric had shown up to kill Klaus when she and Rebekah had gone to retrieve his body.

And due to her rapidly beating heart and heavy breaths that she couldn't control, she was lead into the once thing she hadn't experienced in so long, she couldn't even remember when the last time she had one was.

Violet was having a panic attack.

She was so submerged in her thoughts that she hadn't even realized what was happening until she couldn't breathe, her throat constricting painfully. In the middle of pacing in her and Klaus' shared bedroom, Violet felt her limbs become numb, collapsing on the floor, looking around frantically and trying to focus her blurry vision onto her cell phone, her first instinct being to call her soulmate.

It was overwhelming, how every sound seemed to be a hundred times louder and yet the house was completely silent. Her ears were ringing loudly and the room looked like it was closing in on her.

She didn't know how long it had been, but eventually, she saw the faint blur of black and reached weakly for the device. Violet felt the tip of her fingers graze the edge of the nightstand, where her phone was located.

But before she could stretch her body further, the feeling of her lungs begging for air became to much, and Violet fell unconscious.

Klaus didn't know what was wrong, but the moment he felt his throat constricting he somehow knew something was wrong with Violet.

He assumed it was a soulmate thing, but he didn't care enough to think about it. All he cared about was getting home and finding out what was happening.

It was on the drive home when it happened, and when the car couldn't go fast enough, Klaus didn't hesitate to abandon the vehicle, opting to use his enhanced speed to get home instead.

Focusing his ears, Klaus could hear the faint sound of Violet's heartbeat as he neared the house. It relaxed him slightly as he figured she was probably asleep. But he just couldn't shake the feeling of dread that filled his veins.

If all she was doing was sleeping then why couldn't he stop his heart from beating so fast with fear?

Klaus didn't think he'd ever ran that fast before. He had realized it many times before, and he would have then as well had he not been so preoccupied with worrying about his soulmates safety, but Klaus was so unbelievably whipped for Violet.

He knew it, his family knew it, Violet's old group of friends knew it. He would do anything to make sure she was happy. If she wanted to go on a random vacation across the world, he would take her. If she hated someone with a passion so much, he would make sure that person wouldn't live to see another day.

It didn't take him very long to reach their home–only about 2 minutes actually–but his worries made it seem like he had taken forever. Klaus didn't bother to open the door, opting to just kick it open, nearly sending it off its hinges. Seconds later, he was upstairs, in the doorway of his and Violet's shared bedroom, his heart dropping at the sight of the his soulmate limp on the ground.

The hybrid knew it wasn't a huge deal, for he could hear her heart beating steadily in her chest. And if she was dead, she would be back and alive in a few hours due to their soulmate bond. But that didn't stop the tears from welling up in his eyes as he approached her body.

Her cell phone was halfway hanging off the edge of the nightstand, and her arm was reached out on the floor, Klaus assuming that she was going to call for help. When he lifted her up and delicately placed her onto the bed, Klaus felt his heart clenched when he spotted the dry tear streaks all over her rosy cheeks. The dark circles beneath her eyes were also a bit more prominent, making Klaus feel guilty for worrying her so much in the first place.

But he would rather her be sleep deprived and alive then have her fall victim to the chaos they had to deal with everyday.

Once Violet had be tucked under the duvet, the softest pillow they had tucked underneath her head, Klaus headed downstairs to make her some food. He remembered how, during one of their deeper conversation in the early stages of their relationship, Violet would tell him how she got panic attacks and woke up with a migraine and a rumbling stomach. She had a bad habit of not eating or drinking anything when she was stressed.

He made sure to make her some soup, just how she liked it, and placed an ice pack on her forehead, along with a glass of water and some Advil on the nightstand, to hopefully lessen the pain of the incoming headache she would inevitably receive.

As expected, Violet awoke about an hour and a half later, a small groan leaving her mouth as she sat up, staring down confused at the bag of cold water that had fallen from her head and into her lap.

Klaus came up a few seconds later, having heard her noises of distress. When he walked in, Violet was sitting up at the edge of the bed, the heel of her hand against her forehead and her eyes squinted in pain. The hybrid was quick to rush over and place the tray of food down on the nightstand, placing one hand on her back and the other gently on her arm, guiding her back into a horizontal position. "No, darling, you should be resting." He softly spoke, not wanting to be too loud and worsen her headache.

"Nik?" She rasped, immediately having a glass of water put up to her lips. Violet gratefully took a large gulp of water, letting her boyfriend take the glass away when she was done. Her tired hazel eyes met his concerned blue ones, "What happened? Are you okay? Is everyone else okay? Did Kol kill anyone?"

Klaus let out a chuckle at his soulmates usual concern for everyone but herself. "Everyone is fine, and no, Kol hasn't killed anyone, yet. But that's not important," He paused, taking a seat next to her and letting her snake her way under his arm, resting her head in the space between his shoulder and his neck. "It seems as if you had a panic attack of some sorts and fainted."

"Oh," Violet quietly replied. She glanced up at Klaus, her eyebrows furrowing when she saw the guilty look in his eyes. "Hey," She lifted her hand, cupping his cheek slightly and forcing his head to look at her. "What's wrong?"

The original knew, at this point, he couldn't lie to her even if he tried, she would know. So instead of choosing to lie, he sighed, "You never would've been stressed enough to have a panic attack if I would've just checked in, let you know we were all okay."

Violets shoulders dropped. The small teenager ignored the pain in her body and moved over on the bed, opening up the covers as a sign for Klaus to lay down with her. The hybrid look at her questioningly, but sighed and slipped off his jacket when all he got was an expectant look.

When the soulmates were comfortably laying down, not an inch of space between them, Violet took Klaus' hand in hers, intertwining their fingers. "I don't know if you've noticed by now, but I worry all the time. I'm an anxious person, that's just how I am, I worry about everything." Her face lifted, seeing that Klaus was already looking at her, an unreadable expression on his. "That's not your fault. I've had anxiety since I was a kid, way before all of this started. Don't blame yourself for something you can't control."

Rather than responding, Klaus used his thumb and forefinger to lift Violet's chin, pressing his lips to hers, gently but in a way that let her know just how much he loved her.

As much as Violet had come to enjoy Kol Mikaelson's company and become great friends, she couldn't deny that he was a real pain in the ass.

Especially in times like these, when they had much more important matters to deal with, but instead now have to deal with the results of Kol's temper tantrum.

Because of the compulsion he had put on Damon, the Salvatore was currently locked in the basement cellar in his house, starved of blood to weaken him long enough to hopefully convince Kol to remove the compulsion.

And since Stefan had to go and somehow steal the dagger from Rebekah–a situation Violet didn't like but couldn't exactly disagree with–he had surprisingly asked Violet and Klaus to come "babysit" Damon.

And that brings them to now, stood behind Stefan in the Salvatore basement, watching the interaction between the two brothers. Or, Klaus was watching, Violet was hearing; she wasn't tall enough to see into the cellar.

"You coming to snap my neck again?" Damon weakly asked, "Because I woke up feeling completely un-murderous, and I'm pretty sure that it's safe to set me free."

Stefan continued to glare at his older brother, staying silent as he threw a small vial of blood into the small room.

Damon immediately groaned upon seeing the amount of blood, "Oh man, really? You practically bled me dry. At least spring for a bag or something. I'm thirsty." In response, Stefan set a water bottle between the bars of the door. "Not exactly what I had in mind." The older vampire mumbled.

The Salvatore grunted as he stood up and dragged himself up to the door, Violet finally being able to see her friend as he placed his face closer to the bars.

"Hello, mate." Klaus grinned, earning himself a confused expression from Damon.

"What the hell are you doing here?" He croaked.

The original smiled, "Babysitting." He replied, receiving a small, "Oh." in response.

"Give him a vial of blood every couple of hours, so he doesn't desiccate." Stefan tells Klaus, handing him another vial of blood. "If he gets too much strength back, or if he just annoys you," Klaus grinned at that, "bleed him out again."

Damon rested his head against the open space in the door, looking at his brother. "Silent treatment, huh? Is that your best shot?" He turned his attention to Klaus and Violet, "He's still pissed at me for sleeping with Elena." He told them, his eyes drooping slightly from the lack of blood.

Klaus lifted an eyebrow, "You sure about that?" He inquired, glancing at Stefan, "'Cause I saw him trying to sneak out of Rebekah's bed this morning, which would suggest to me that he's moved on."

Stefan's jaw ticked as he sighed defeatedly.

"Well, well." Damon smirked, "Looks like my brother ripped out a page of my revenge-sex handbook."

"Well, why don't you two enjoy your little, uh, villain bonding time?" Stefan spoke, giving the hybrid a sarcastic smile. "I'll let you know when I get the dagger from Rebekah." He said, before exiting the room.

It seemed like they were in that stupid cellar for hours, because they had, and Violet had just about had it with Klaus and Damon's bickering.

"You know, none of this would be an issue if you'd have just done your job properly." Klaus remarked, turning to Damon who was tossing his daylight ring in the air repeatedly out of boredom. "I was perfectly willing to let you train Jeremy."

Damon made a face, "No, you weren't. Are you kidding? You got there day two. Do you know how hard it is to get these Xbox brains to focus?"

Klaus ignored his words, continually to aimlessly walk back and forth through the cellar. "And then when I turned a room full of barflies into vampires for him to slaughter, you let Kol kill them."

"Your brother problem, not mine, buddy." Damon replied, throwing his ring up once again.

"And whose bright idea was it to saddle Jeremy with a conscience, hm?" The original questioned, raising his eyebrows at the younger vampire.

Damon paused as he narrowed his eyes, turning his head to give Klaus and incredulous look. "Well, we couldn't have him trying to stake Elena in her sleep, now, could we?"

From her spot leaning against the wall, Violet picked at her nails, muttering, "Would that honestly be so bad?"

In response, Klaus chuckled at his soulmate and Damon glared at his friend, earning a tired sigh from Violet. "Fine, sorry." She apologized, though her tone made it clear that she wasn't the list but sorry. Checking her watch, Violet kicked off the wall, "I'm gonna go get a snack. You want anything?" She asked the hybrid.

"No, flower, I'm fine, thank you," He replied, both of them ignoring the way Damon rolled his eyes from seeing Klaus' attitude change so quickly when talking to Violet. The petite blonde girl nodded and swiftly left the room, the soft sound of her feet against the floor fading as she walked further away.

It didn't take Violet long to grab a snack, seeing as the only people who lived in the house were vampires and didn't need to actually eat food and all they had were a few bags of chips a couple of water bottles.

As she made her way back to the cellar, a bag of Doritos, a water bottle, and a blood bag in her hands, (because even though Nik said he hadn't wanted anything, Violet decided to be sweet and brought him something anyway) she could hear Damon and Klaus' voices. Violet rolled her eyes initially thinking that they were just having another petty argument.

But as she got closer, their words caught her attention, her feet quietly stopping a few feet away from the door.

"...something to do with a certain blonde human. I think you murdered Carol Lockwood, and I think you're worried that, one day, Violet's going to stop forgiving you for everything." She heard Damon's voice taunt.

"You've done worse." Her soulmate replied, his voice going an octave deeper than it was before, Damon's words clearing having an affect on him.

Damon then harshly spoke, "Debatable. See, I don't mind being the bad guy, because somebody has to fill that role and get things done. You do bad things for no reason. You do them to be a dick."

Violet frowned at this, becoming upset from how she couldn't really deny the facts. Klaus did bad things and he made bad choices, but that didn't make him a bad guy. That didn't make him the monster that everyone makes him out to be.

But, of course, no one besides Violet knew that. No one besides Violet knew that he constantly doubted himself despite walking around like he was a king. No one else knew that, despite all his wrongs towards them, he really did love his family, he just would go to drastic measures to protect them.

No one besides Violet knew that the only reason he was such a cold person, was because he's been through so much heartbreak in his thousand years of living, that he's put up his walls so high that they wouldn't even come down for Violet. There was just a small bridge built in them to allow her in.

Klaus was just damaged goods, and Violet wished everyone else could open up their eyes and realize that.

"Debatable." The Original replied, his voice much quieter this time as he let the vampires words sink in.

Damon spoke up a second later, "If you're gonna be bad, be bad with a purpose. Otherwise, you're just not worth forgiving."

"Your brother's lack of communication is infuriating." Klaus spoke to Damon as he hung up the failed phone call and placed his phone back into his pocket.

Damon's face was rested on his hand, his eyes drooping even more which Violet didn't think was possible. "It's one of his trademarks, like his brooding and his hair."

"I don't understand what's taking so long. I mean, how hard is it to steal a dagger?" Klaus asked with an annoyed expression.

"From a vampire who's been stabbed as many times as your sister, I'd say difficult." The younger vampire remarked. Rather than speaking, Klaus sighed and instead opted for throwing Damon another vial of blood.

"Sweet." He dryly replied, picking up the small glass container from the ground.

Klaus adjusted his position as Violet let her head fall against his arm, subconsciously leaning more into him as he moved his arm to rest on her shoulders. "You disappoint me, Damon. You're not trying very hard to get out of here. I expected more the daring escape artist, less the cell potato."

"Well, I am compelled to kill Jeremy, so I figured it's probably smarter to sit here and chit-chat with you than bust out of here like the Hulk." He said, his icy blue eyes narrowing themselves at the Original hybrid

Violet could see her soulmate try and hold in a mischievous grin, "How do you think Elena felt about that, by the way?" He mused. "Your inability to overcome Kol's compulsion for a single moment even though it meant saving the person she loves most in the world?"

Damon glared through tired eyes, "She's met me. She knows impulse control's not my strong suit."

"Still," Klaus taunted, walking closer to the vampire. "must be hard trying to live up to Stefan." Damon's face became significantly more annoyed. "I remember when I compelled him to feed off Elena. He fought it so hard, he actually managed to resist. Now, that's love."

Damon scoffed. "What do you know about love?" He asked, seemingly forgetting about the girl a few feet away from them.

"Seriously, Damon?" Violet spoke up, looking at the vampire as if he had grown an extra head. "That's the dumbest question I've ever heard you ask."

Klaus hummed in agreement with his girlfriend. "Indeed it was. But for your information, I know that you're in love with Elena. But I think you're afraid of what might happen when we find the cure at the end of the rainbow." Violet listened to her soulmates words as she carefully watched Damon's face. Watching as he hung his head and watched the ground as Klaus spoke. "Personally, I don't see a fairytale ending for you. All I see is Stefan and Elena. I think you see the same thing."

Damon didn't reply, but Klaus' phone soon rang, bringing all of their attention away from the previous conversation and to the phone call.

Klaus glanced at his phone and rolled his eyes before answering. "Well, if it isn't the happy homicidal maniac." He greeted, letting Violet know that it was Kol who he was talking to.

Violet couldn't hear the conversation, but she guessed it wasn't pleasant when a second later Klaus' eyes grew cold. "What?" He snapped.

"I don't know what you're talking about." He grumbled after a pause. Soon after that, Klaus angrily pulled his phone from his ear and stomping over to Damon. The younger vampires eyes grew wide for a split second before Klaus grabbed him by the neck and pinned his body against the wall, making Violet jump.

"What the hell's going on?" The hybrid demanded.

Damon struggled in his hold, trying to peel the Originals hand from his throat, but his strength was no match for Klaus'. "I don't know." He choked out.

"What are Stefan and Elena planning?" Klaus asked, squeezing his neck tighter.

"I don't know." Damon repeated. "I've been stuck in the penalty box with you since yesterday. Stefan won't talk to me, and Elena won't come to see me, so maybe you're right. Maybe she's written me off."

"Tell me what you know." Klaus compelled.

"I don't know anything about a plan." Damon insisted. Klaus' jaw clenched as he gave the mans throat another painful squeeze.

"Stay here till I return." Klaus spoke, roughly releasing the vampire and exiting the room, Violet hot on his trail.

Violet called out her soulmates name repeatedly as she struggled to keep up with his fast pace. "Nik! What's going on? What did Elena and Stefan do?" She questioned, only remembering hearing those two names.

"Elena and Jeremy are trying to kill Kol." He told her as they left the Salvatore house.

The short girl couldn't help the gasp that escaped her lips, though she could feel the anger beginning to bubble up inside her at the thought of that doppelgänger bitch hurting yet another person Violet cared about.

"What?" She all but yelled as Klaus stopped at the end of the driveway.

"And I have no doubt that Stefan knows all about it." He responded. But before Violet could say another word, one of his arms was quickly wrapped tightly around her waist and he was speeding them off towards he Gilbert House.

Violet could feel her heart pounding in her ears as they approached Elena's house. The door was wide open and there was an orange glow emitting from the inside, giving Violet a sick feeling that they were too late.

When they reached the doorway, Violet nearly threw up then and there. She didn't, but the sight in front of her made her want to.

Inside the house was the burning corpse of Kol Mikaelson, the white oak stake sticking straight out of his chest.

Violet felt Klaus tense and he was barely able to steady her as her knees buckled from shock. Her heart clenched, reminding her of when she witnessed Klaus' body in the same condition, yet not as painful, but just as hard to see.

The Gilbert Siblings May have grown up with Violet, but as she stood their alongside Klaus, both of them simultaneously looking up with the fiercest glares, they realized that the old, sweet Violet was gone. And it was partially their faults.

"What did you do?" Klaus growled. Violet could feel his chest rising up and down quickly against her back and his heart beating violently from anger.

"W-We didn't have a choice." Elena stuttered, her breathing becoming labored as she stared at the soulmates in fear. "He was trying to cut off Jeremy's arm!"

Violet too felt the anger fill her veins, all she could see in her mind was Kol's dead body. All she could think about was how they killed someone she cared about. How they killed one of her family members.

"If you idiots had never set a trap for him he never would've gotten inside!" Neither Jeremy or Elena had ever seen Violet with a such a dark look in her eyes, so full of hatred for the two she was staring at. And they couldn't be sure, but they swore they saw her eyes flash a blinding white for a split second.

Elena averted her eyes to Klaus, looking at the hybrid with an incredulous expression. "You said you were going to put him down too."

"I was going to make him suffer on my terms!" Klaus shouted furiously. Elena could only blink as she seemingly realized the extent of her actions. "I'm going to burn this house to the ground." The hybrid continued, looking around the small house. "And then, when you try to flee for your lives, I'll kill you both without blinking."

"You kill us, you'll never get to the cure." Jeremy spoke up, bravely stepping in front of his sister. "You'll never be able to make any more hybrids."

Klaus smirked, "You really think I care for an instant about my bloody hybrids?" He cried. "I want the cure so I can destoy it. I would've killed you all the second we dug it up, but now I'm just gonna watch you burn instead."

At first it was unknown what was going on, the Gilbert siblings looking on, startled and confused as the soulmates both fell to their knees in pain. Klaus yelled out as he was forced to the ground, grabbing onto the doorframe for support. Violet, however, could only let out strangled noises of pain as her hands came up to block her ears. All she could hear was a sharp ringing that was so excruciatingly loud. Loud enough for blood to come streaming down her ears.

Violet couldn't make out anything besides the ringing in her ears, but she could faintly hear the sounds of voices. And when was able to pry her eyes open, she felt her blood boil at the familiar figure of Bonnie Bennett standing in front of her.

She didn't know what was happening, all she could focus on was the the sound that wouldn't stop and the feeling in her head that was so painful and nearly made her pass out.

But it seemed as if she had spoke too soon, because a few seconds more of Bonnie's magic inflicting pain in Violet was all it took for the human to fall unconscious.
