"YOU KNOW," Rebekah began as her and Violet cleaned up various items from the dance that occurred the night before. "I still haven't been to a school dance yet."
Violet frowned, realizing that it was true. The first chance Rebekah had gotten to go to a school dance was Homecoming, where Elena daggered her. And now, Esther had appeared and taken Rebekah's last chance to experience a high school dance.
"I'm sorry, Bekah. I promise, once all of this blows over, you and I will go out shopping and have sleepovers and talk about boys all you want. You'll get your human experience, I promise." Rebekah grinned in response, their conversation being cut off when Caroline entered the gym.
"Where's Matt?" The younger vampire asked, eyeing the other two blondes weirdly as they cleaned.
Rebekah picked up a cup from the table, tossing it into the recycling bin in her arms. "He bailed. Got called into work at the last minute."
Caroline's arms dropped to her sides. "Are you kidding me? So, it's just us?"
"Yes, and you're late." Rebekah scolded. "Clean up committee started at eight o'clock." Caroline glanced at her phone in confusion. "It's like 8:02."
Rebekah stared at her blankly. "Exactly. We managed to turn up on time and I didn't even get to attend the dance that I organized." The Original walked past Caroline, dumping the contents of the bin into a larger trash can.
Caroline exhaled through her nose, looking over at Violet who could only give her a knowing look. All Rebekah wanted was to have a human experience, and Caroline knew that. "I'm sorry about your mom." Rebekahs head shot up at the younger vampires words. "I mean I know you like, hated her and everything, but still...I'm sorry."
Rebekah dumped out the bins remaining contents and shut the lid to the trash. "I'm sorry about your teacher. He seemed like a nice guy."
Caroline gave her a weak smile. "Yeah. He was."
"I'm gonna get started on the gym." Rebekah says quietly before walking out of the cafeteria. An awkward silence falls upon Violet and Caroline. After a moment, both look at each other with guilty expressions and blurt out in unison, "I'm sorry."
The two let out laughs, moving towards each other and embracing. "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to say that." Caroline mumbles.
They pull apart, Violet smiling apologetically. "It's alright, Care. We've both done some pretty horrible things. All is forgiven."
Caroline opens her mouth to reply but a sound catches her ear, and before Violet could blink, Caroline had sped her out into the hallway. Their eyes landed on Alaric, pinning Rebekah to the lockers with a stake prepared above her chest. Violet couldn't hold back the gasp that escaped her lip as Caroline and Rebekah switched the position and held Alaric against the lockers, pushing the stake into his chest.
All of the girls eyes widened when the stake didn't kill him and he easily pulled it out.
When attempting to speed outside without getting caught, Rebekah's grip on Violet loosened and the human tripped, falling to the ground. It took the Original a moment to realize that Violet was no longer in her arms but when she looked back, the girl was already clutched in Alaric's arms.
Rebekah watched wide eyed as Alaric came up behind Caroline, snapping her neck and then threw Violet against the car hard enough to knock her unconscious. As the new, seemingly indestructible, vampire dragged the two girls bodies inside, his skin burning from the sunlight, Rebekah sped away.

In one of the rooms of the Mikaelson Mansion, Klaus is packing up his paintings, when Rebekah enters with a troubled expression.
"Alaric Saltzman just tried to kill me." She exclaims.
"Alaric Saltzman is supposed to be dead." Klaus responded. "Well, he's not and he's a vampire thanks to mother's spell with a white oak stake that can't kill him. He's strong, Nic. Too strong." She explains.
Klaus suddenly stopped and looked up at his sister. "Where is Violet?"
Rebekah falls silent, and by the look on her face, Klaus can guess exactly what his answer is. The hybrid scowled at Rebekah. "Tell me he doesn't have her." Rebekah doesn't answer and Klaus violently throws the painting in his hands at the wall. "How could you let him take her?!" He shouts.
The vampire looks away shamefully. "I'm sorry Nik, but there wasn't much I could do. He's stuck at the school without a daylight ring, but as soon as night falls he'll come after us. You need to get Violet, and then we need to leave
Klaus stared at her for a moment. "Fine. I'll save Violet, collect Elena, and we'll be on our way."
Rebekah looked at him, an expression of disbelief painted on her delicate features. "Forget Elena! You don't need any more stupid hybrids!"
Klaus shot up. "What I need is protection from Esther's continued assaults against us."
"We'll protect each other, like we always have. And we'll protect Violet. Always and forever, Nik." She spoke gently as she stepped towards him.
The hybrids demeanor faltered, but it was back up just as quick. "I'm not leaving without her. Either of them." He said lowly, walking past Rebekah.
"I'm leaving now." The younger of the two siblings announced. "You can either follow me later with Violet or you are on your own." As she spoke, tears welled up in Rebekah's eyes, some almost falling when Klaus only looked at her blankly. "Fine. Trust your hybrids over your family. Let your spite be the death of you, see if I care."
Rebekah stomps out of the room, shoving past Tyler as he came in with a box. "Move it, sire boy!"
Tyler gave Klaus a confused look. "What's her deal?"
━
Back in Alaric's classroom, said man sits at his desk, Caroline and Violet both restrained to desks in painful ways. While Caroline was gagged with a vervain soaked cloth and her hands staked to the table with pencils, Violet was gagged with a cloth soaked in various blister producing chemicals found in the science rooms and her hands tied so tightly with rope that the flesh had began to turn purple due to the cut of circulation.
The girls whimpered and cried out helplessly, especially Violet who had only ever experienced so much pain the last time she was kidnapped and tortured.
Alaric lifted his head, his vampire hearing picking up Elena's footsteps and rapid heartbeat as she walked through the school. "Right on time."
Hearing the the two girls painful cries, the doppelgänger sprints to the classroom, stopping at the doorway, shocked by the sight.
"Caroline. Violet." Elena gasps. The brunette turns to her former guardian. "Let them go, Alaric!"
Alaric points in their direction. "Free them yourself."
Elena cautiously stared at Alaric then hurried to Caroline who was closest to the door. Squatting down, she strokes Caroline's arm soothingly. Wincing, she starts to gently pull the pencil out of one of Caroline's hands, but Alaric comes up and slams the pencil back down into her hand causing Caroline to scream out painfully. Elena shoots up to her feet. "You said that you would let her go!"
"How many times do I have to tell you, Elena?" Alaric scolds. "Stop trusting vampires!"
After Elena fearfully sat down, Alaric walks over to Violet, ignoring her whimpers and heavy gasps of breath as removed the cloth from her face. Violet wanted to sigh in relief but her heart began to pound faster when she saw him dip the fabric into the mix of chemicals. "No, no more, please, no more!"
"Alaric stop!" Elena exclaims, though she is quickly pushed back down. "Sit down!" He demands. "This is a mix of toxic chemicals, all of which painfully irritate the skin and keep her weak. Just like the vervain does to Caroline."
Violet's skin begins to blister and welt, her loud sobs echoing. Elena placed a comforting hand on Violet's arm, glaring up at Alaric. "Why are you doing this?"
"To make it easier on you when you put Caroline out of her misery." The former history teacher says as he picks up he white oak stake.
"What?!" Elena gasps. "No!"
Alaric smirks. Isn't this what you wanted, Elena? For me to teach you how to kill a vampire?" He holds out the indestructible stake. "Well, here's a vampire, Elena. Kill her."
Elena shakes her head. "This isn't what I want."
"Of course it is." He says in a low tone. "All those hours you spent training, getting stronger, you could be a hunter, Elena. But you've never actually staked a vampire through the heart."
Alaric persistently holds out the stake, then taking it back angrily when all she does is stare at it.
"Why are you doing this?" Elena questions as the man paces in front of the desks. Because you need me." He growls. "Because you're an eighteen-year-old girl without parents or guidance or any sense of right and wrong anymore."
Elena looks at him is disgust. "Look at you. How is this right?!"
Alaric points at Caroline with the stake. "She's a murderer. She told me she killed someone and liked it. " Caroline looks down shamefully. "Now how is that right? Listen, Elena, your parents led the council. It was their life's mission to keep this town safe. They weren't dead six months before you undid it all."
Elena glared at him with hatred. "You don't know anything about them."
The new vampires grins mockingly."Why, am I wrong? Do you actually think that they'd be proud of you?" The man bends in front of Elena. "If you don't side with the humans, you're just as bad as them. Now kill her."
Alaric demands as he hands her he stake. "Or I'll do it for you and I'll make it hurt. Get up!"
He roughly grabs Elena's arm and pulls her out of her seat until she's stood in front of Caroline and forced the stake in her hand. Elena stands there for a moment, then turns around and attempts to stab Alaric. "I thought I taught you better than that."
Elena clenched her jaw. "You did."
The doppelgänger grabs the beaker full of vervain and smashes it over his head, hurrying to untie Violet and Caroline as Alaric screams in pain. "Get help!"
Caroline grabs a stumbling Violet and speeds out of the room, stopping when they were a safe distance.
Violet is looking back in the direction of the classroom when a hand is suddenly clasped over her mouth. She opens her mouth to scream but the familiar voice of her soulmate calms her down almost immediately. "Shhh. It's okay, it's okay. It's me." Klaus whispers soothingly, taking his hand from her mouth.
Tears fall freely down her face as she spins around and throws her arms around him, sobbing quietly into his chest. "It's okay, you're safe." He whispers, stroking her hair softy. Klaus pulls her away, gently running his thumb along the wounds on her face. "Oh, flower. He will pay for what he's done to you." He assures, biting his wrist and letting her drink until he sees her injuries start to heal. "We'll save Elena. You go straight home. You stay inside, do you understand?"
Violet nods rapidly, tightening her grip on him when he tries to leave. "Nik, I-" She cuts herself off with a sigh. "What is it?" He asks worriedly. Violet shakes her head. "Nothing. I'll tell you once this is all over."
Klaus nods, placing a chaste kiss on her forehead before speeding away.
━
Violet didn't know how long she was asleep for.
As soon as she had gotten back to the mansion, exhaustion took over and she fell into a deep sleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. The human was expecting to wake up to Klaus, the hybrid waiting for her to wake up so they could finally leave Mystic Falls. She was expecting to hear that Alaric had been defeated and that everyone was safe in their homes with nothing else to worry about.
Instead, Violet woke up to the screams of her soulmate. It didn't take her but a second shoot from the bed, running down the stairs as fast as she could. But what she saw would haunt her forever.
As she entered the room, her eyes landed on Klaus, his arms held back by Tyler and Damon, and Stefan's fingers buried in his chest. The hybrid was yelling out in pain, and all Violet could do is look at the scene with wide eyes, her heart beating rapidly just as her soulmates heart slowed.
As his skin began to grey and litter itself with veins, Violet finally made her presence known, screaming out in agony as Klaus fell to the floor.
The group of friends all glance at each other guiltily as Violet pushes Stefan out of the way, falling onto her knees next to a desiccated Klaus, sobbing and cradling his head in her lap. Tears land on his grey cheek as the human pushed the small hairs off of his forehead. "Why?" She whimpered, looking up at the people she used to call friends. "Why would you do this to him? To me?"
No one could muster up an answer, not even Elena who now felt guilt course through her as she watched Violet break down on the floor. Her sobs caused all of their hearts to clench, knowing that even if they may have had their differences, they had now broken Violet Robinson.
As Violet leans her head against Klaus', Stefan tells Damon to take the doppelgänger home, the older vampire leading Elena out with Tyler following soon after. Stefan though stayed, looking down at the human with a sad expression.
The petite blonde can only look at vampire, her face looking confused and upset. "I said I was sorry." She choked out. "I told you all that I was sorry, for everything. I know that I did some bad things but I thought you all understood." Stefan didn't reply, tears welling up in his own eyes.
"You took him away from me!" Violet suddenly yelled. "Why would you take him away from me?" She spoke, her voice weak as tears cascaded down her face.
Stefan looked down at his feet, hating himself for what he was about to do. "I'm sorry Violet, I really am."
And before she could respond, her head was forced to the ground and everything went black.
━
Violet's eyes flutter open, her head pounding and her eyes glancing around the room in confusion. Suddenly remembering what had happened, her petite body shot up, looking around frantically and letting out a choked sob when she couldn't find her soulmates body.
Letting out uneven gasps, Violet shakily stands up, grabbing her phone from her back pocket and quickly dialing the first person she thought of. "Hello? Violet, is everything alright?" The person asks worriedly from the other line.
"Elijah." Violet whimpers. "You need to get to Mystic Falls now."
━
"Stefan." Elena called out in a shaky voice when she opened her front door to reveal Elijah and Violet.
Stefan and Matt both turn around, their bodies tensing at the sight of the previously MIA Original. "Elijah." Stefan greets.
Elijah slightly smirks at their fear. "Hello again."
Once they had been cautiously let it, Violet and Elijah both sat at the Gilbert's dining room table, Elena sitting across from them and Stefan and Matt stood to the side.
"All we need is to take that stake away from him. Once he's been disarmed, the weapon's in my possession, my family will scatter to the ends of the Earth and Alaric will follow us." Elijah explains to the group calmly. Though Violet knows it's an act, seeing as how he had expressed his concern when he had picked her up from the mansion.
"And you'll just...run?" The Salvatore vampire questions, taking out a chair and sitting next to Elena.
"We've done it before." The Original tells them. "Klaus and Rebekah spent the better part of a thousand years evading my father. What's another half century while Elena is able to live out the rest of her natural life?"
Stefan turns his attention to Violet, looking at her with raised eyebrows. "And you'll go with them?" She immediately nodded in response. "Klaus is my soulmate, that makes me family. I would only continue to age until I'm the same age as Klaus, and as long as he lives, so do I."
Elena looked at her, puzzled. "You would go with them instead of just staying here?"
Violet scoffed. "Stay here for what? You've all made it perfectly clear that I'm not welcome anymore. Why would I stay in the place that has brought me nothing but pain while you all stood by and let me get hurt? The Mikaelson's have been more of a family to me than any of you ever were."
The three of them had looked visibly hurt, especially Matt and Elena, who had known Violet since they were infants. "We treated you like family!" Matt protested. "You were the one who left to stand by Klaus' side."
Violet looked at them in disbelief. "Treated me like family? Tell me, we're any of you aware, other than Damon, that my father has been abusing me since I was seven years old?"
The room fell silent, Violet's former friends all looking at her with their jaws slightly dropped. Without realizing, tears had began to fall down Violet's face for what seemed like he hundredth time that day. The human swallowed thickly, roughly wiping the water from her face and pushing back her chair. "Excuse me." She mumbled, being quick to leave the room and take a seat in the living room.
"Violet was the one who called me." Elijah spoke after a moment of silence. "You can imagine she was very distraught."
"We've finally stopped him, Elijah." Elena speaks up. "After everything that he's done to us, I can't just let you bring him back."
Violet held back the urge to run back in and attack the doppelgänger herself. Violet couldn't remember a single time since she had met her soulmate that Elena Gilbert didn't try to sabotage their happiness.
Elijah leaned forward, his expression serious. "I give you my word, Elena. I will not revive Klaus within yours nor even within your children's lifetimes." He glanced over in the direction Violet had gone, his face sad and sympathetic. "Perhaps that will finally teach him some manners."
Matt approached the table. "Why should she trust you? All you've done is screw her over."
"And for that, I am deeply ashamed." Elijah replied. "But know this--she could have been dead the instant I walked through that door tonight, so Elena, I leave it to you to make the decision whether to trust me or not."
Suddenly, Damons voice rings out from the phone. "Not! Hello? Did that concussion give you brain damage?! His lunatic siblings will kill you the first chance they get!"
Elijah looked at the phone with an annoyed expression. "Rebekah and Kol will honor the terms. If you return Klaus' body to us, Elena will come to no harm." Elena and Stefan glance at each other, both clearly conflicted
"Do we have a deal?" Elijah asks. "No! No, no, no, no! Did I mention no?" Damon speaks up once again. Stefan glanced at the doppelgänger and sighed. "Elena, it's up to you."
"Oh, come on!" Damon shouted. Elena narrowed her eyes at the Original. "Why do you want Klaus' body?"
Elijah stared at her with an unreadable expression. "He's my brother. And he's Violet's soulmate. We remain together."
Elena sighed. "We have a deal."
━
Rebekah and Violet emerge from the elevator of the storage unit building. Rebekah was originally going to come alone, but she knew she wouldn't be able to convince Violet to stay back, so here they were.
"Damon!" Rebekah calls out. "Damon, where are you?" When there's no response, Violet sighs in aggravation. "Damon, this isn't funny."
The two blondes walk down a line of storage units, turning a corner to walk down another line when they're suddenly both grabbed, hands being clasped over their mouths. Looking back, they see Damon and slightly relax when he shushes them.
After Damon quickly explained the situation, the three of them hurriedly collected Klaus' coffin, rolling it as fast as they could to the SUV Damon had arrived in. Then, out of nowhere, Alaric sped over to them, grabbing Rebekah and slamming her head against the car. He threw both her and Violet to the ground, pushing Damon down easily when her sped at him. Alaric opened the coffin, taking his stake out of his jacket.
The next few moments were all a blur to Violet. She could hear herself shouting in protest, along with Rebekah and Damon, but her mind could barely process what was happening. One second they're shouting and the next, both her and Rebekah are sobbing hysterically at the sight of Klaus' body in flames, Damon holding them back.
Alaric rips the stake from Klaus' chest, turning around and pointing at Rebekah. "Next."
"Rebekah, run. Take Violet and run!" Damon demands. Violet was only able to look back and had now deceased soulmate once more before Rebekah had sped them out.
━
Rebekah and Violet stop in the middle of the woods, Elijah turning to face them and his face dropping at the tears running down their faces.
"He's gone, Elijah." The female vampire breathes. "There was nothing I could do to stop it."
The the siblings walk towards each other and embrace, quickly pulling Violet in with them, knowing that she would soon be gone as well.
Elijah pulled away with a confused expression. "Tyler Lockwood is dead, but the rest survived. You said that Niklaus turned their bloodline."
"I thought he did." Rebekah replied, her voice thick. "It wasn't me, it wasn't Kol." The eldest of the two siblings continued. Rebekah shook her head. "It wasn't me, Elijah. It was Niklaus, I'm sure of it." Elijah looked away for a moment. "Then how are they still alive?"
Violet suddenly whimpered. The two Originals looked over at the small human, their hearts aching at the completely broken expression on her face. Elijah gave her a concerned look. "What is it?" A single tear fell down her cheek.
"I never got to tell him that I love him."
