viii.
"TONIGHT IS THE FULL MOON. We should assume Klaus is prepared to break the curse." Elijah spoke to Elena, Stefan and Violet.
Once morning had came, the three of them were quick to get dressed and be ready for whatever was to come that day. Truth be told though, none of them got very much sleep.
"Elena and Violet said the sun and he look curse was fake? That it's actually just a curse placed on Klaus?" Stefan questioned.
"Klaus is a vampire born of a werewolf bloodline." The Original began. "The curse has kept his werewolf aspect from manifesting. But if he breaks it..he'll be a true hybrid."
There was a pause before Damon entered the library and broke the silence. "Then why are we letting him break the curse?"
No one responded so he continued. "We could kill him today. With Bonnie."
"Damon-" Stefan starts but is quickly interrupted.
"No, Damon. Bonnie can't use that much power without dying." Elena declines. "I'll write her a great eulogy!" The vampire replies.
"It's not an option, Damon." Violet snaps from her seat next to Elena. His head snaps to her and he frowns at the visible bags under her eyes.
Stefan then speaks, snapping Violet and Damon from their glares at each other. "All right, how do we break this curse?"
"Well, the ritual itself is relatively straightforward. The ingredients, so to speak, you already know." The Original explains, pacing back and forth.
"The moonstone." The youngest vampire in the room states.
"A witch will channel the power of the full moon to release the spell that's bound within the stone. After that, Klaus, being both werewolf and vampire, will sacrifice one of each."
"And, where do I fit into it?" Elena questions. "The final part of the ritual." Elijah replies. "Klaus must drink the blood of the doppelgänger to the point of your death."
The Original gets no response from anyone, as the others in the room are silent with shock and fear and many other emotions. Stefan grabs Elena's hand for comfort as Damon clenches his jaw and Violet picks at her nails nervously.
Elena looks up at Elijah. "And that's where you come in."
He brings forward a small wooden box, with intricate designs engraved in it, and opening it. "This is an elixir I acquired some 500 years ago for Katerina. It possesses mystical properties of resuscitation."
"So I'll be dead?"
"And then you won't."
━
"You think he'd understand why I'm willing to do this." Elena mumbled as she picked up the glass container that held the elixir.
Elijah looked at her curiously. "Why are you?"
"I'm the key to breaking the curse." She replied, sparing at glance at Violet who was still sat in her spot but zoned out and thinking of god knows what. "Klaus is here because of me. If I don't stop him, he's gonna hurt people. It's that simple."
"You know, there's a possibility this elixir won't work." The vampire stated. "I don't want to mislead you."
"I know the chance I'm taking."
They were snapped from their silence at the sound of a door slamming and Jenna's voice yelling. "Get out!"
"Jenna! Jenna!"
"Get out!" The three of them ran into the entrance of the house along with Stefan and Damon, their eyes landing on the familiar strawberry blonde pointing a crossbow Alaric.
"Jenna, put the crossbow down, okay? It's me!" But Jenna wasn't having it. "Stay away from me!"
The doppelgänger looked at her aunt and her history teacher with wide eyes. "What's going on?"
"It's me, Elena, I swear, okay? He let me go. Klaus let me go." Alaric insisted. Damon gave him a hard stare. "Prove it."
"Ok, uh," He looked at Jenna. "The first night you and I spent together, Jeremy walked in right when I was about to-" Before he could reveal anything to inappropriate, Jenna cut him off. "It's him." She quickly said, her cheeks becoming a light shade of pink.
The others looked at the former couple with raised eyebrows. "Why'd he let you go?" Stefan asked him.
"He wanted me to deliver a message." His eyes looked over to Elena. "The sacrifice happens tonight."
━
Violet and Jenna sat together on one of the couches in the Salvatore Library. Elena sat in a chair next to them, with Elijah behind her, Alaric on the other couch, and Stefan pacing the room as he interrogated Alaric.
"So you don't remember anything that happened?" The green-eyed vampire questioned.
"No," He replied with a defeated look. "It's like I blacked out and woke up three days later."
After a moments pause, Alaric spoke again. "Katherine was there."
"She's under compulsion." Stefan told them. "Damon snuck her some vervain, but she can't leave until Klaus tells her she can."
At the mention of her soulmates name, Violet sighed heavily as she shared a look with Elijah. "Where is Damon?" Elena spoke up. "I saw him go upstairs." Her aunt answered.
The doppelgänger then got up, and Violet contemplated going with her but decided against it.
"So what else did I do?"
━
With everything that had happened with Damon feeding Elena his blood, Violet had made her way to the grill where she was later joined by Alaric and Damon.
The vampire sat beside her, ordering his usual bourbon. Alaric then sat by them too, asking for the same.
"I screwed up." Damon mumbled, looking both angry at himself and guilty. Violet hummed and sipped her water, while Alaric said, "Yeah you did."
"Gentlemen?" Violets breath hitched and her body tensed at the all too familiar voice she had heard in her dreams so many times before. Her heart rate accelerated and her hands shakily set down her glass. "Why so glum?"
Alaric stood up protectively in front of Violet as Damon looked up at the man, seemingly unaffected by his presence. "Ugh." He groaned in annoyance. "Klaus, I presume."
"In the flesh." He smirked. "Thanks for the loaner, mate." Klaus said to Alaric. Then his gaze softened as he met Violet's eyes. "Hello, little flower."
She swallowed thickly as Damon also stood in front of her, uncomfortable with how Klaus was looking at her. "Any reason you stopped by to say hi?"
"I'm told you and your brother fancy my doppelgänger," He stated. "Just thought I'd remind you not to do anything you'll regret." Klaus said with a smile.
"Ha." Damon countered. "Thanks for the advice."
"I don't suppose I could talk you into a postponement, by any chance, huh?" The younger vampire asked with a hint of humor in his voice, though he was completely serious.
Klaus looked down with a smile. And although Violet would never admit it, at least not anytime soon, he was even more handsome in person than in her dreams. At least he's hot. She thought to herself.
"You are kidding." He looked over at Alaric. "He is kidding, right?"
"No, not really."
"I mean, come on, what's one month in the whole grand scheme of things?" Damon tried again.
But his smirk fell as Klaus got intimidatingly closer to him. "Let me be clear. I have my vampire. I have my werewolf. I have everything I need. The ritual will happen tonight. So if you want to live to see tomorrow, don't screw it up."
His stare then switched to Violet, who was still looking up at them with fear in her hazel eyes. "You're coming with me, little flower."
And in the blink of an eye, the soulmates were gone.
━
Klaus entered Alaric's apartment, Violet following slowly behind. It took some convincing but after a while she was able to get Klaus to stop carrying her and let her walk on her own.
The Original was surprisingly gentle and not at all threatening towards her. She guessed Elijah was right; Klaus would never lay a finger on her, which brought her a lot more comfort than she expected. Her fear of Klaus was slowly starting to fade away.
When they both walked in, their eyes landed on Katherine who was pouring herself some coffee. "Everything ok?" The brunette asked. Her eyebrows then furrowed as she saw Violet emerge from behind Klaus. "Violet?"
"What have you been doing?" Klaus asked the vampire before the blonde girl could say anything.
"Making coffee." Katherine replied calmly. "Do you want some?"
Violet jumped when Klaus sped over to Katherine, grabbing her by the throats and compelling her. "Tell me what you've been doing."
"Making coffee." She repeated, her voice scratchy as she struggled to breath. Giving her a look over, he released her from his grip. As she was massaging her throat, Klaus spoke again. "Wait."
"Take off your bracelet." He demanded and she obeyed. "Now, I want you to walk over to the window, and stand in the sunlight." He smirked.
"But I'll burn."
"You don't have a choice." He stated. Violet watched curiously as Katherine slowly walked over to the window. She couldn't lie, she was a little satisfied watching Katherine yell in pain as her skin began to burn. She deserved it.
Klaus took a sip of the coffee the brunette vampire had poured earlier, looking amused. "That's enough." He told her after a moment, and she wasted no time speeding over to the other side of the room, cowering away from the sunlight.
The Original hummed. "Guess I was wrong. All right then," He made his way over to her, smirking.
"I need you to do something for me."
After Klaus had informed Katherine of his plan, he sent said vampire away to do what he asked. Klaus then turned to Violet, who was know sat on the couch, twiddling her thumbs nervously.
"Violet, darling." He called. Her head shot up but only met his eyes for a second before they darted across the room, refusing to meet his again.
Klaus began to walk over to her. "My brother has filled you in on what you and I are to each other, has he not?" Violet nodded, a small 'mhm' emitting from her throat.
"Then, has he told you that I've been waiting for over one thousand years to find you? That I would never hurt you?" She nodded again. "Do you believe him?"
Letting out a breath she didn't even realize she was holding, Violet finally looked up and met his eyes. And she was surprised to see no amusement, no urge to be taunting. Only curiosity, and maybe even a hint of longing.
"I don't know what I believe." She mumbled. "My life was normal up until the Salvatore's showed up and suddenly all the scary stories I was told as a kid were real and my life has been in constant danger 24/7, ever since." Feeling a rush of confidence when he looked speechless, she continued.
"Your brother is a man of his word, I've learned that much. So yes, I believe that you wouldn't hurt me. But I have no doubt, that you would hurt my friends, no matter what I say. Because maybe you've waited for me for a thousand years, but you've also waited to break this curse for a thousand years. And you're going to do whatever it takes to break it. But if my opinion means anything to you, I really don't want this sacrifice to happen."
Klaus's gaze wasn't at all hard, or angry. No it was more guilty, regretful, but at the same time determined. "You're opinion does mean something to me, more than you can imagine. But your right, breaking this curse is important to me. So the sacrifice will happen." She sighed sadly, a few tears welling up in her eyes but she fought to push them back.
"But because I don't want you to have to witness your friend dying, I would advise you to stay here. Someone as pure as yourself shouldn't have to witness that. You can still be compelled but I really don't want to take your choice away like that. If he sacrifice works as planned, I should be back in a few days time. Katerina will stay here, but she won't hurt you either. When I return, I'll decide what we will do or where we will go. But until then, please do not try and leave."
And for some reason, Violet listened.
━
A while after Klaus had left, Violet fell asleep. And despite her worry for Elena and all of her other friends who were probably out in danger trying to stop the sacrifice, it was some of the best sleep she had gotten in a long time.
She thought she heard Damon's voice coming from the other room but she quickly fell back into her slumber, not realizing that she had been so tired or that her chance at walking right out that door was gone.
Klaus was right. He was gone for about two days. In those two days, Katherine had told her what had happened to Jenna and Damon.
Though she knew nothing could be done about Jenna, she knew that the rest of the gang would be looking for a cure for Damon. Damon Salvatore was by far one of the most stubborn people Violet had ever met. She knew he wouldn't go down without a fight.
But one thing she didn't know, is when she would see any of her friends again. So, with the hope that Klaus would at least let her leave to the post office, Violet began to write a good old fashion letter.
She tried to keep it simple but at the same time express her condolences and explain where she had been for the last two days.
Once finished, Violet sighed and folded the piece of paper in half, setting the it on the night stand. She let her body fall back onto the bed, still bored out of her mind as she had been for the past 48 hours.
But as she was curled up on the bed, the sound of the door to the apartment creeping open caused her to open her eyes wide. Thinking it was Klaus finally returning, she got off the bed and made her way out of the small room. But she was proved wrong when her gaze landed on Stefan.
"Stefan?" She breathed out. His leafy green eyes landed on her and widened, speeding over to pull her into an embrace.
"Have you been here all this time?" He asked quietly. She nodded. "Don't worry, I'm okay. He hasn't done anything to me."
"That would've been nice to know two days ago. We've been going out of our minds trying to find you." Stefan told her as he pulled away. "Did he compel you to stay here?"
Violet shook her head. Stefan looked at her, confused, but before he could question her, the door opened once again.
"Klaus, your back. Look who decided to come for a visit." Katherine said, holding Stefan by the shirt as if she had caught him.
"You just keep popping up, don't you?" Klaus said, his jaw clenched with jealousy at the sight of Violet and Stefan so close, as he walked further into the apartment with Elijah in tow.
Violet looked up at Elijah, nodding when he gave her a concerned look. "I need your help. For my brother." Stefan replied.
"Well, whatever it is, it's gonna have to wait a tick. You see, I have an obligation to my brother. It requires my immediate attention." The blonde Original said with a smirk.
At Stefan agitated expression, Elijah stepped forward. "You understand how important family is or you wouldn't be here. My brother gave me his word that he would reunite me with my own."
"And so I shall." Elijah quickly turned to face his brother, only to be stabbed in the heart with the same dagger he's had to face so many times before. Katherine raised her eyebrows in surprise while Stefan put a protective arm in front of a shocked Violet. The three of them watched as Klaus dug the dagger deeper into Elijah's heart, shushing him with an amused glint in his eyes as his brother began to temporarily die.
Looking up at Stefan with a deadly look in his eye, Klaus sped over and pinned he younger vampire against the wall. "Now, what am I gonna do with you?"
━
Violet winced as her soulmate impaled Stefan with a knife, the said vampire groaning in pain.
"Do you feel that?" Klaus taunted as Stefan struggled to breath. "It's scraping against your heart. The slightest little movement, and your dead."
The human feared for her friends life, but after their conversation two days ago, Violet knew Klaus wouldn't kill anyone in front of her. Hurting people however, he obviously didn't care if she saw.
"He's just trying to help his brother." Katherine defended, also fearing for her former lovers life.
Violet let out a shaky breath. "Klaus, please." His gaze flickered to her and his glare softened. Klaus hated the affect she already had on him after only knowing each other for approximately three days in total.
"The witches said you had a cure." Stefan looked up at the Original with pain filled and pleading eyes. "Make me a deal. Just give me the cure, and I'll do whatever you want." Klaus violently pulled the large knife from Stefan's body, smirking as he walked away. He made his way to the counter, pouring the contents of a blood bag into a small glass. "Trouble is, I don't know if you'd be any good to me, the way you are now. You're just shy of useless." Klaus spoke lowly as he sipped the blood.
The hybrid stalked over to the broody vampire, cup of blood in hand and crouched in front of him. "I heard about this one vampire. Crazy bloke, always on and off the wagon for decades. When he was off, he was magnificent."
"1917, he went into Monterrey and wiped out an entire migrant village...a true ripper." Stefan lowered his head in realization. "Sound familiar?"
"I haven't been that way in a very long time."
Violet couldn't imagine Stefan being anything but his broody, caring and kind self. She couldn't picture him ripping into the necks of innocent people and killing them mercilessly. That's just not who Stefan was.
"Well that's the vampire I can make a deal with. That is the kind of talent I can use when I leave this town." Klaus paused before grinning.
"Katerina, come here." The brunette obeyed, walking cautiously towards them and placing her hand into Klaus's. He immediately brought her wrist up to his face and bit into her flesh, his eyes flashing gold and veins protruding from under his eyes.
"No. No." Katherine repeated in disbelief and fear. He then bit into his own wrist and forced his blood down her throat. Stefan, Violet, and Katherine watched in wonder as her bite magically began to heal. "You want your cure? There it is."
"Your blood is the cure." Violet breathed. Klaus smirked. "Gotta love Mother Nature."
"Now," Klaus placed his arm over Stefan's shoulder and began to lead him way from the two girls. "Let's talk, you and I."
━
The Original hybrid squeezed his wounded hand over a small glass container, watching as his blood filled it up. "There it is. You wanna save your brother? How about a decade-long bender?"
Klaus looked over at a silent Stefan. "You know, I have big plans for you when we leave this town."
The younger vampire glared. "I'm not like that anymore."
"Well that's too bad." Klaus stated calmly. "You would've made a hell of a wingman." Then he began to pour the blood down the drain.
"Wait." Stefan said, causing Klaus to smirk and lift the bottle. "Now that's more like it. I want you to join me for a drink." He slid a full blood bag over to Stefan, lifting up his cup when the vampire did nothing.
Hesitantly, Stefan ripped the cap off of the bag and took a small mouthful of the metallic red liquid. "Finish it." Klaus ordered. "All of it."
The green-eyed vampire looked conflicted as he looked back and forth between the blood bag and Klaus. "You do everything I say, and I save your brother. That's the deal."
Reluctantly, Stefan brought the mag up to his lips, drinking the blood and grunting at how agonizingly good it felt to consume such a large amount of blood. When the bag was empty, he aggressively threw it to the ground. Klaus looked at another bag thoughtfully and slid it to Stefan. "Again."
Katherine and Violet watched as Stefan drank, blood bag after blood bag, his self control slowly diminishing as he devoured the human blood. The female vampire looked on curiously, but the human stood helplessly, wanting nothing more than to run over and pull the bags away from him.
Stefan hissed and groaned, the only thing on his mind being to get Klaus's blood to Damon. Whatever it took.
"You're very cooperative." Klaus mused. "It's almost, as if you're enjoying it."
The vampire looked up. "No more." He growled. "Not until you give me the cure."
"Not until we make a deal. It's your choice, Stefan. You can either remain here living your life in Mystic Falls, or you can embrace what you truly are," Klaus uttered as he picked up another blood bag. Stefan looked at the plastic bag with wide eyes, his bloodlust and longing becoming too much to handle. "Leave town with me, and save your brothers life."
Stefan looked hypnotized by the thick red liquid trapped inside the bag, and eventually gave in, ripping the cap off and devouring yet another pint of blood. "That's the spirit."
"Sweetheart." Klaus said, getting Katherine's attention. "Take this over to Damon, and come right back." Stefan looked up in shock.
"You want me to leave?" Mumbled Katherine hopefully. "No." Stefan halted. "Yes." Klaus replied.
"Katherine, wait!" Violet suddenly yelled. The vampires in the room looked at her as she sprinted in the room and grabbed her latter off the night stand. Violet was quick to come back, handing the piece of paper to Katherine. "Give this to them."
"And if I were you-" Klaus began but didn't get to finish as Katherine was gone in a flash. "I'd hurry."
"She'll never take it to him." The sandy-haired vampire spoke. Klaus only shrugged. "She'll never take it to him." Stefan repeated.
━
Violet leaned her head against the cold glass of the car window. Her breath slightly fogged up the glass but it cleared almost as soon as it came.
The image of Stefan slowly loosing control of himself was still stuck in her mind and she was sure she would have nightmares about it.
"Why did I have to get such a psychotic soulmate?" She whispered to herself.
But before she could even blink, the door opposite of her opened as Klaus slipped in, Stefan doing same a second later and getting in the back seat.
"Are we leaving now?" Violet quietly asked. Klaus hummed with a grin. "Indeed." His blue eyes looked over into Violets hazel ones.
"Are you ready to get out of this tragic little town?"
━
This chapter was terrible omg. I know it's been a while and I'm sorry. I honestly have no excuse other than sometimes I'm lazy and I just don't feel like writing. That is the end of season 2 so yes, next chapter will be the start of season 3. I hope you don't hate this chapter too much, I know Klaus and Violet's meeting was a bit anti climatic but it's just the beginning so be patient. Also, before I go, give me some ship names for Klaus and Violet. I'd love to see what you all come up with. Love you!
