"So, here's a time where my brothers and sister decided to almost give me a heart attack. What do I mean? Well, you'll have to read to find out."
FOUR MUTANT TURTLES were outside the farmhouse; Raphael, Eclipse, and Michelangelo were having a free-for-all spar while Leonardo was going through his katas. The only one missing was Donatello as he was still upstairs in bed asleep.
"So, is Donnie coming down or what?" Raphael asked, blocking Eclipse's kamas with his sais.
"Couldn't wake him up, so I put some dirty underwear on his face." Michelangelo responded.
Eclipse snorted. "And he still didn't wake up?"
Michelangelo shook his head before he shrugged. "He probably stayed up late again in the lab."
As Eclipse and Michelangelo began to spar off against each other, Leonardo opened his eyes and spun around in time to block Raphael's sais with his katana blades. He dodged his attacks and he kicked him back. Raphael leapt over his head, dodging a swing from his brother, and Leonardo turned, locking their blades together as he landed. Then, Leonardo flipped Raphael over his head and onto the ground.
"Nice." Raphael said as he got back to his feet. "Looking good, Leo. You're really coming along."
Leonardo just smiled, sheathing his swords. Then, Briana walked out of the front door with April, Casey, Mara, Zane, Kaz, and Henry along with Piper, Kyle, and Chloe as they all made their way towards the hippie van.
"Hey, guys? We're heading down to the store," April says as Casey climbs into the driver seat and Henry opens the side door to the van.
"Any requests?" Casey asks, leaning his head out the window.
"Ooh, ooh, ooh!" Michelangelo says, flinging his hand up in the air. "I need some spicy gummy worms!" He collapses to his knees and thrusts both hands upwards as if he was begging. "Need!"
In the back of the van, Kyle felt his eyes widened. "There's spicy gummy worms?" He asks, his mouth was practically drooling at the idea of spicy candy as he did have quite a sweet tooth and a candy addiction.
"Yeah, he's not going to have that." Casey says with a shrug.
"It's a tiny store, Mikey," Kaz added. "It's the kind of place that has peanut butter or jelly." He then climbs into the back of the van along with the others while Zane gets into the passenger seat.
"We'll be back in a few!" Henry waved as he closed the side door after getting in.
Then, Casey revs the engine and backs up the van before driving off, leaving the four mutants to their sparring. Michelangelo and Eclipse went back to sparring against the other while Leonardo punches his palm with his fist and grins, turning back to Raphael. "Okay, let's do this." He says.
He backs up and Raphael rushes him as the two start throwing punches and kicks at each other while twisting, turning, and spinning all over the place. Raphael places a punch on Leonardo's side and the blue masked mutant turtle reacts with a two knee-kick to his brother's plastron. Raphael flings him away easily and Leonardo leaps at him and flinging his leg out, the base of his foot connecting with Raphael's oncoming fist.
Leonardo then lets out a cry of pain at the sharp pain that rushes through his leg and collapses, gripping his injured leg. At his cry of pain, Eclipse and Michelangelo stop their sparring as the two rush over to where Leonardo and Raphael are.
"Leo, you were hurt bad, bro. You gotta give yourself time to heal." Michelangelo says worriedly as the three of them move closer to him.
"Yeah, but how long?" Leonardo asks, pushing himself to his feet. "This is taking forever." He starts limping to move towards the porch, wincing at every step and Michelangelo places a hand on his brother's shell lightly. "I'm fine! I'm fine!" He brushes his brother's hand away from him. "I'm just gonna take a minute."
The three mutant turtles watch as he makes his way towards the house. "Some rest should help him." Eclipse said.
Raphael nodded in agreement, his face falling as they watched their older brother. "Yeah."

ONCE CASEY HAD pulled up to the store, he and the others climbed out of the hippie van and walked inside. They wandered around, collecting various things they needed while Kyle was looking for any signs of candy with Piper and Chloe. April was paying more attention to her shelves than her surroundings as she almost walked into someone, letting out a startled gasp.
"Hey, there!" The man greeted. "Name's Bernie." He walked past her. "I just bought this place."
"On purpose?" Mara questioned.
Bernie knelt down, setting down the box he'd been carrying and stocking the lower shelves. "Finding everything you need?"
"You got any spicy gummy worms?" April asks and Kyle's face lit up with a wide smile.
"Is that bait?" Bernie asked as he got back to his feet. "You mean bait?"
"It's candy," Zane responded.
"Ho-ho! I got candy!" Bernie picked up a glass jar filled with brown balls and opened the lid.
"What kind?" Briana asked.
Bernie pulled a few balls out. "Brown. But it used to be yellow."
Immediately, Kyle wanted to complain but he never got the chance too as Kaz had gave a sharp kick to the back of his brother's leg since he knew how his youngest brother can get sometimes when he doesn't get the candy he wants or a candy withdrawn. Kyle turned his head to look at him but the firm, warning look on his brother's face was enough to make Kyle stay quiet as he looked down at the ground.
Casey walked behind the desk where a black book in a glass casing caught his eye. He tried reading the writing on the case. "Obโobturaculum somโ" he reached out towards the book. "โsomniorum?"
Bernie grabbed his wrist before he could touch it. "Nobody touches that book." Casey gasped, snatching his hand away. "Understand?"
Casey nodded, backing away.
"Hey, I got what we need," Henry said, holding a box of various supplies. "Should last a few days." He set the box down on the counter.
"So, I thought nobody lived around here." Bernie stated, ringing up the groceries.
"Why would you buy a store where you thought nobody lives?" Piper asked as April handed over the money to the man.
"Eh, I like my alone time," Bernie responded, looking down at the box. "The amount of stuff you're buying must be for ten or... fifteen people."
"Uh, just nine," Henry lied, picking up the box. "Just us nine."
"Uh-huh. Tell me. You been... tired lately? Real tired?"
Everybody gave him confused looks while backing up.
"Nope. We're fine." Kaz assured him.
Then, they quickly left the store and as they hopped back into the van and Casey drove off, Chloe spoke up. "So, that guy is weird."
๐๐๐
ONCE THEY GOT back to the farmhouse, they unloaded the groceries from the van and carried them inside, setting them in the kitchen. Then, they found Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Eclipse asleep in the living room.
Casey frowns and places a hand on his hip. "We're out taking care of business and what are they doing? Squat."
"Donnie's probably on lookout now," Briana said. "Come on."
They made their way to his room, only to find the purple masked mutant turtle asleep with a pair of underwear on his face, whistling.
"Or not." Briana said.
"Is he... whistling?" Chloe asked.
Mara couldn't help but laugh. "Those weird teeth of his make him whistle!"
Henry rolled his eyes as he walked over to him, removing the underwear from his face before he frowned. "Something doesn't feel right. Donnie? Donnie, wake up." He started shaking him to try to get up. "Okay, no, seriously, something's not right. He's not waking up."
"He's probably a heavy sleeper." Casey said.
Briana shook her head. "Donnie and Leo are the only light sleepers."
The rest of them went to check on the other mutant turtles while Mara tried to wake Donatello up. It wasn't long till she dragged his sleeping body downstairs.
"Okay, seriously, gappy, wake up already!" Mara demands as she kicks his foot.
"Kicking him isn't going to wake him up, Mara." Zane said, trying to wake Michelangelo up while Kaz checked the turtle's pulse.
Mara shrugged. "It was worth a try." Then, she rubs the back of her neck. "Plus, I've always kind of wanted to do that."
"I don't understand, they won't wake up." April said, checking Raphael's pulse while Briana's checked Leonardo's pulse and Henry checked Eclipse's pulse.
Henry felt his ears twitched as he felt her pulse. "Something is definitely wrong," he said. "Clips's pulse. It's not as strong as usual."
"Same thing with Leo." Briana added.
"And Mikey." Kaz added.
"And Raph," April said. "It's like... they're trapped in their dreams."
๐๐๐
THE MORE TIME passes and none of them have been able to wake up any of the turtles, which only made them panic and worry more. Henry can feel the wolf inside of him give a soft growl in worry, making him on edge with what was happening.
"Kyle, what are you doing?" Casey questioned, noticing the twelve-year-old flipping through the channels.
"Looking for Mikey's one of favorite shows," Kyle answered, flipping through the channels still with the remote. "Maybe once he hears Crognard, he'll wake up."
He stopped flipping through the channels once the tv landed on the cartoon, but Michelangelo still didn't wake up, though the orange masked mutant turtle was smiling and sighing happily as he snoozes.
Kyle blinked. "Okay, yeah, that's not right."
"Well, Mikey actually kinda looks okay." Mara commented.
"Yeah, but his pulse is getting weaker." Kaz says.
"All of them are," Briana said with a frown, moving away from Leonardo.
"Are they sick?" Chloe asked.
"None of them have a fever, but I can feel something strange," April said. "Like, something is draining the life out of them."
Casey frowns and holds up one finger. "Wait, that Bernie guy asked if we'd been feeling tired."
"He had a book too," Briana added. "Somniorum. It's Latin for 'dreams' or 'of the dreams.'"
Henry's eyes then flashed yellow as he nearly gave an animalistic growl. "I'm gonna go see what's in that book," he says. "You guys do what you can here."
"We'll come with you," Mara said. "Bri Bri, April, Zane, Kyle, Piper, and Chloe can stay and see if they can wake them up."
Although she hadn't said the words, Henry knew why her, Casey, and Kaz were coming along since he could feel the wolf inside of him thrashing against the chains that kept it restrained with the urge to hunt Bernie down and attack.
Henry nodded and looked over at the others. "We'll be back with answers."
And with that, Henry, Kaz, Casey, and Mara left the house, leaving Zane, Briana, April, Kyle, Piper, and Chloe alone with the five sleeping mutant turtles.

THE FOUR TEENS entered the shop again, thanks to the key that Casey had stole earlier when nobody had been paying attention. They search the store, looking for Bernie while Casey goes over to the book, moving to use the key to unlock the book and picking up the book.
"They sent you, didn't they?"
Casey spins around to find Bernie standing behind him with a chainsaw. "Who?" He asked.
"Them! The Dream Beavers!" Bernie exclaimed.
"Nobody sent..." Casey paused, having realized what he said. "Did you just say Dream Beavers?"
Bernie glares, raising the chainsaw. "Didn't I tell you nobody touches the book!?" He shouts, starting up the machine.
"Whoa!" Casey yelps as he dodges the chainsaw. "Dude, are you insane!?"
He leaps over the counter as Bernie sweeps the merchandise off of it as Mara and Kaz come rushing over at the noise. "What the hell, dude!?" Kaz exclaimed.
"Jones, move!" Mara shouts. She grabs his arm and yanks him out of the way to avoid getting hit of the chainsaw.
"That book is the only thing standing between this world and total destruction!" Bernie shrieks, rushing at the teens with the chainsaw.
Kaz grabs a shelf and pushes it towards the man, giving them time to get away from him. But then, Casey trips and panics when Bernie reappears behind him.
"You dirty beatnik!"
"Casey!"
But right before Bernie could strike, Henry grabs the man from his shoulders and throws the man into another shelf with a crash. Henry, whose eyes are glowing yellow with rage, kicks the chainsaw aside as it sputters to a stop.
An animalistic growl leaves his lips as Henry storms over to Bernie and grabs the man by his shirt collar, lifting him into the air easily.
"You aren't looking too lucky because you got me pissed," Henry warned. "And I want to know what the hell is going on."
"Uh, Hen," Mara said, grabbing her friend by his shoulder and pulling him back a little. "He won't tell us anything if you don't calm down."
Henry doesn't move for a second before he releases Bernie, letting the man fall to the ground as he glares down at him.
"What's wrong with you?" Kaz questioned the man.
"Yeah, have you like, lost your mind?" Casey questioned.
"Ah, I'm sorry," Bernie apologizes, gripping his head as he stumbles to his feet. "I'm a little high-strungโ"
"A little?" Mara questioned, a snort leaving her lips.
Bernie ignores that and continues. "I haven't slept in forty years, so I'm starting to see things, like your friend's eyes glowing yellow."
"Well here's a new flash for you, they are," Henry snaps, this time an animalistic snarl left his lips. "And unless you wanna find out why, you have five seconds to start explaining before so help me, I'll take your body and smashโ"
"Hen, your Raph is showing." Kaz told him before he turns back to Bernie. "Why haven't you slept?"
"Because of the Dream Beavers!"
"What the hell are Dream Beavers?" Mara asked.
"They're beings of pure evil from another dimension. You see, it all began forty years ago..."
"Nobody asked, dude." Casey groans, only to get elbowed by Mara.
"I was a physicist trying to prove my theory that our dreams take place in a dimension of their own," Bernie explains while Casey sighs. "A defective portal projector short circuited and I lost consciousness. The Dream Beavers had been about to break through into our reality, but instead, they materialized in the dream dimension, in my dream. When I awoke, they remained trapped in the world of dreams, unable to return as long as this device remains operating."
The man reaches over and grabs the book that Casey had nearly retrieved while Henry, Kaz, Mara, and Casey exchanged quick looks. Then, Bernie turns back to them with the book in his hands.
"Device? It's a book, Bernie!" Mara said angrily.
"Obturaculum somniorum means 'dream plug.'" Bernie explains, flipping the book open to reveal a strange device inside with red lights. "For forty years, I have protected the plug to ensure that the Dream Beavers remain trapped. For forty years, I have remained awake so that they cannot drain my life force, but they are always near." He clutches the book closer, looking out the window. "They attack anyone close to me and drain the life from them when they sleep. That's why I came out here, far away from everyone!"
"Not far enough!" Kaz snaps. "They're draining our friends right now!"
"And if you don't want to piss me off anymore, you're gonna do something about it," Henry says as he grabs the man by the shirt collar and drags him from the store while Casey, Kaz, and Mara follow after him.
๐๐๐
BY THE TIME that Henry, Casey, Kaz, and Mara entered the living room with Bernie, April was slapping Donatello's face over and over again while Briana was trying to wake Raphael up, Zane was trying to Michelangelo up, Chloe was trying to wake Leonardo up, and Kyle and Piper were trying to wake Eclipse up. There was clear worry and panic on their faces as they were all trying to wake them up.
"I got told that wouldn't work." Mara said.
"I don't know what else to do! I can barely find their pulse anymore!" April exclaims.
"If we can't wake them, they won't make it!" Briana added.
"Ah! Oh my gosh!" Bernie exclaims, stepping into the living room. "Is that TV set on Astroview?"
"Really?" Zane asked with a raised eyebrow. "Not, 'oh my gosh, giant turtles?'"
Bernie's eyes widened. "You see them too?"
"Bernie, the Dream Beavers are sucking out their life force!" Casey says urgently, shaking the man's shoulders. "How do we wake them up?"
"You can't!" Bernie responded.
"What the hell do you mean we can't!?" Kaz snapped, glaring at the man.
"The Obturaculum keeps the beavers trapped in the dream realm, and as long as they're there, their dream powers are unbeatable! That's why I don't sleep!" Bernie says, before he turns to April. "Got any coffee, by the way?"
"You know, I'm the one that's this to smacking you, dude." Mara threatened.
"Donnie's not breathing," April panicked. "DONNIE'S NOT BREATHING!"
"Raph isn't either," Briana panicked as well. "RAPH ISN'T EITHER!"
Henry's glowing yellow eyes landed on book as he stepped forward, snatching the book from the man. "So, this is what keeps those stupid Dream Beavers in the dream realm?" He demands.
"Yeah," Bernie responds before his eyes widened in realization. "Wait, what are youโ NO!"
Henry threw down the book, snatched Casey's bat, and slammed it down on the device.
As if it was on cue, the five mutant turtles woke up, groaning while everyone looked relieved. "Oh, thank god! Don't you ever scare me like that again!" Briana said, relieved as she hugged Raphael.
"You're okay!" April kissed his cheek and he giggled bashfully.
"The Obturaculum is broken!" Bernie exclaimed. "The beavers are free! Free to destroy our world! All is lost! All isโ aah!"
A pinkish beam shoots out from the book as dark laughs echoes around the room. When the beam finally vanishes, Henry raises an eyebrow in surprise.
"Wait a second..." the purple beaver blinked, noticing that everyone was taller than them. "Aw, dang!"
"Hi, Dave." Michelangelo waved to the blue beaver.
"Hi, Mikey!" Dave waved back.
"Shut up, Dave!" The four other beavers snapped.
"This is it?" Bernie questions. "This is what I've been protecting the earth from for forty years? Plush toys!?"
"If I were you guys, I'd beโ"
"Leaving." The purple beaver finished Casey's statement. "My thoughts exactly. Come, beavers! Let us leave this world for one that isโ" Henry poked him with the baseball bat. "Alright, we're going. Big bully."
The five beavers vanished in a puff of blue smoke.
"April, Casey, Henry, Briana, Mara, Zane, Kaz, Piper, Kyle, Chloe, giant talking turtles, I've been awake for forty years for no good reason. Soโ" Bernie yawned. "If you'll excuse me..." he fell to the floor, asleep, leaving the others to stare at him.
"Well, who wants to help me carry him back home?" Mara asked, gesturing to the grown man that was asleep on the floor.
Donatello stands up and the two grab Bernie and carry him out while Michelangelo dashes from the room, acting as if the whole thing hadn't happened in the first place.
"I know that was terrifying and we nearly bought it and everything, but my leg really feels a lot better." Leonardo admits, moving his injured leg around.
"See?" Eclipse said, punching his arm lightly. "I told you some rest would help."
Outside of the house, Mara was holding Bernie by his arms while Donatello was holding him by his arms as the two made their way to the van. The two walked in silence until Donatello realized something.
"Wait a second, did April kiss me a while back?" Donatello asked, a smile on his face.
Mara rolled her eyes, the tiniest hint of annoyance on her face. "Whatever you say, Donnie."
"So, yeah, I nearly had a heart attack here because of them. But to be fair, they've had far more that I've nearly given them and that doesn't really change cause there's only more times where I nearly end up dying."
