chapter thirty two

When they were all dressed, they made their way back to the living room. What Winona saw made her skin crawl. Two of the Frosts were stood around Franklin Bennett. Their eyes were glowing blue and the man was gasping for air. Winona stormed over to them and yanked one of the triplets arm, turning the blonde to face her.

"That's enough. Cut it out," she snapped. "What?" The blonde asked. "You think torturing some sad old bigot's gonna make our job any easier? Cut it out. Now," Clarice said. The blonde looked to Winona whose eyes were beginning to turn silver. "Don't make me make you," she threatened. The blonde scoffed, looking her up and down. "You're no fun," she said before turning to her sister and nodding.

The other blonde stopped what she was doing and the man gasped for air before panting. Winona's eyes returned to their original brown and she breathed outward. She gave the blonde an annoyed look. "You're really getting on my nerves," she said. The girl only shrugged with a small smile. Winona rolled her eyes before turning away and walking out of the living room.

She walked into the kitchen area and pulled out her phone. After dialing Elaine's number, she placed the phone over her ear. It rang a couple of times before Elaine picked up. "Hey, how's it going?" Was the first thing that Winona heard. "We're about to head over to the summit? How are things over there?" Winona replied.

"Same old, same old and as boring as ever. I really regret not going with you guys. It would've been a great opportunity to get to know Marcos and Lorna better," Elaine replied. Winona rolled her eyes. "El, you don't have a chance with either of them. They're in a relationship. With each other," she said. Elaine sighed dramatically, "Well, a girl can dream."

A smile made its way onto Winona's face and she shook her head. "Well, I was just calling to see how you were doing. Let me know if anything comes up," she said. "Will do. Hey, do you think Marcos and Lorna would be down with to having a more open relationship?" Elaine jokingly replied. "Goodbye," Winona said before hanging up.

She shook her head again, slipping the phone into her pocket. She placed her hands on the countertop and breathed deeply. Now, they had work to do.

The group drove up to the venue where the summit was being held. Winona was sat in the passenger seat of the second SUV. When they had gotten past security, John drove the vehicle to the back along with Esme. He parked the SUV in an empty spot and turned off the engine.

Winona took off her seatbelt and exited the vehicle. She stood next to the SUV as she went over the plan in her head. She knew it wouldn't go exactly the way she had planned it but she would do whatever she could to try to make sure it did. Winona walked to the back of the SUVs to wait for everyone else.

She spotted John already standing there and decided to clarify the plan one more time. "Hey, so I'll take out any security that may get in our way," she began as she walked up to him. He opened his mouth to speak but she continued. "Hopefully if I have to do that, there won't be any more problems. From there you can get us into the elevators, right?"

"Yeah, yeah, but I want to say something first," he said. She furrowed her eyebrows but gestured for him to continue. "What you did earlier, when you stopped the Frosts from torturing that guy, that was the right thing to do," he said. Winona shook her head, "That was all Clarice. She's a very determined woman."

"It was you too. Okay, I think maybe I was too hard on you earlier," he said. "John Proudstar admitting that he was a dick. I think I should get this on camera," she joked. He shook his head and smiled. "No but really, John, it's fine. You were right. I shouldn't have kept that from you guys. I guess I didn't want you to think less of me if you knew," she continued.

John shook his head, "I wouldn't have thought that. We've all done things that we're not proud of. And I'm sorry if I made you feel as though you should be ashamed of your past." Winona smiled up at him. "No need to apologize for that. You were right anyway. For the most part at least. And I should've told yo—"

"It doesn't matter, doesn't matter. What matters is who you are now. That you're one of us. And I trust you. Because I know who you are, Winnie. And who you are is pretty darn great," John said as he cut her off. Her smile widened significantly. Their eyes connected and in that moment, Winona made a split second decision.

She reached her hand around the back of his neck and pulled his head down so that their lips met. His hand went up to cup the side of her face. The kiss wasn't as long as their first, but it displayed all of their emotions. Every feeling that the two had for one another could be felt in this kiss. Winona pulled away from him, her smile coming back.

"This felt like the right time to me. And I meant that. Did you?" She said to him. John nodded, a soft smile forming on his face before running his tongue over his lips. Marcos approached them with Clarice and Dominic in tow. Clarice looked between the two, a knowing glint in her eye but didn't say anything. "Let's do this," Marcos said, eyeing the two in mild suspicion.

Winona nodded her head and moved away from John. Clarice began opening a portal, the others watching. When the portal was large enough for them to enter, they all went inside of it. The five walked down the open balcony's corridor, Winona looking around to make sure that no one was around.

They made it deeper inside the building, stopping as they reached a hallway. Clarice pulled out her phone and flipped it open. "Lorna did her thing. It's time," she said, closing the phone. Winona rubbed her hands together as John began to concentrate, using his advanced senses to find Campbell.

"He's coming up, with a few guard in the elevator," he said after a moment. "I'll handle the guards," Winona said, taking a step forward. "Wait," he said, pulling her back. John began concentrating again and she furrowed her eyebrows. "Sounds like there's three more in a suite down the hall," he informed. "Then let's stay the hell away from that suite," Marcos said.

John, Marcos, and Winona ran to the elevator whilst Dominic and Clarice stood back. Winona readied herself, clearing her mind and focusing on what she intended to do. "Remember, once the guards are down, you head back over to Clarice and Dominic. We'll deal with Campbell," John told her. She rolled her eyes but nodded although, she would much rather prefer to knock the man out after what he did to her.

When the elevator opened, Dr. Campbell and a few guards walked out. "Hey, Dr. Campbell," Marcos called. All of the men turned around and Marcos sent a blinding light at them. Winona's eyes began to glow their familiar silver as they connected with one of the guards. He let out a grunt and dropped to his knees before falling to the ground. She turned around in time to see John take out a mutant who was using his powers on Marcos.

Winona walked backwards and back over to where Clarice and Dominic stood. Dr. Campbell picked up a gun that had fallen to the floor as the elevator dinged. A group of kids began to walk out and Campbell used this to his advantage. "Children!" He exclaimed, picking a girl up off of the ground. "We're under attack. Just stay with me. We don't want anyone to get hurt. Get back in the elevator. Hurry!"

The children began to scurry back in the elevator. His eyes turned to where Winona stood and he pressed the gun deeper into the girl he was holding's abdomen. Almost daring her to do something. He turned back to Marcos, "Your move sunshine." Marcos lowered his hands once the elevator doors closed. "Behind you!" Clarice shouted as more agents ran to the scene.

"Run!" Marcos yelled. Winona was quick to push Clarice into Dominic as the agents pulled out their guns. Dominic pulled Clarice out of the crossfire as Marcos slid behind a wall. John was running straight at Winona, yelling for her to get down. Bullets were flying as she turned around. John's body collided with her own, his arms wrapped around her body as he shielded her from the bullets.

Her arms gripped onto his own. A grunt left his lips and she squeezed her eyes shut as her breathing picked up. The agents continued shooting their guns and Marcos yelled for Clarice to get them out. Winona released a slow breath and concentrated. Her eyes were now silver as her mind began taking over the minds of the three agents. "Stop," she said. They stopped shooting their guns and she pulled John over to where Clarice and Dominic was.

Her eyes remained silver as she kept the agents in their place. Marcos ran over to the four as Clarice opened a portal. Once they were all through, Winona broke her control over the men's minds.

Here's chapter thirty two. Sorry that it's kind of short but hey, Winona and John (idk they're ship name yet; Martinstar? Jinona? Proudmartin?) are now canon! Woohoo! No more complications (for now), it'll be smooth sailing from here (probably not). There's only two more chapters left of this book (and possibly some bonus chapters for scenes that couldn't quite fit into this book and AU type things). But don't fret, book two will be coming pretty soon. Just don't expect it to be out right after the season 2 premiere of The Gifted; I've still got a lot of planning to do. Also, who's excited for the season 2 premiere? I know I am! Anyway, what did you think of the chapter? Please leave me some feedback and a vote and please don't comment for me to update or ask when the next chapter will be. P.S. I once again changed the face claim for Warren Martin but this one is final.
