Dev's Diary
"Charulutha Reddy, Who is this?" Charu's Mom, Ankita, demanded.
"Aunty," I stood up and decided to introduce myself, Charu glared at me.
"I'm Dev," I held my hand out, and Aunty eyed me distrustfully.
"What are you doing with my daughter?" She demanded, and I sighed.
"I love her, and she's my girlfriend." I was straight-forward, and Charu's eyes widened.
"Charu, I didn't expect you to-" Aunty turned to Charu, but her harsh tone disappeared after her eyes met Charu's. Charu was on the verge of tears, with obvious fear of how her mother would react.
"Charu, you could have at least told me," She sighed, and massaged her temple.
"You're my daughter, and I'm your mother. You can share anything with me." Aunty chided gently, and Charu nodded. I laced my fingers with Charu's, and Aunty coughed.
"Three feet away from my daughter," Aunty demanded, and I mocked a salute before obeying. A flicker of a smile appeared on Aunty's face.
"Atanu oka manci vyakti? (Is he a nice guy?)" Aunty asked, and I didn't understand the conversation between them. But Charu nodded.
"If I see my daughter crying or upset because of you, I will come to find you and slap you." Aunty turned to me, and a smile broke out on my face.
"Charu is my only daughter, and she's been the one making money in this house after her father's passing." Aunty smiled lovingly at her daughter. "She can make her choices,"
"But what I'm worried about is her uncle," Aunty sighed, and my mood dropped. "He's hell-bent on getting her married to his son,"
I brought Charu's hand to my lips and pressed a kiss on there, Aunty raised an eyebrow.
"PDA is not allowed in my house," Aunty was firm, and I chuckled sheepishly. Aunty left toward the kitchen for some reason.
"I love you," I murmured into Charu's ear, and she responded by hugging me. I tilted her chin so that I could look at her. Our lips brushed, and I saw Aunty out of the corner of my eye. She smiled at Charu, before going back inside the kitchen. I wrapped my hands around Charu's waist, and broke apart.
"You have a really really chill mom," I smiled,
"Yeah, I don't know what I'd do without her," Charu smiled.
Which was when we heard a cry of pain from the kitchen.
