WHEN AMARA AWOKE, she was ready to bury herself in a hole. It turns out she and Percy had fallen asleep on opposite sides of the car, before they unexpectedly moved closer to one another. Her head rested against his shoulder, his arm lightly laying on hers.
Thalia had been the one to go and wake them up, only to open the back door of the truck and find them sleeping in that position. Percy had been the first to awaken, immediately meeting glances with the smirking older girl as his face flushed red instantly and laughter soon escaped from her.
"If I didn't know any better Jackson," Thalia spoke, calming down from her laughter. "I would think you had a crush on my sister."
Amara was the next to awaken, only to meet her sister's teasing look as she rubbed the sleep out of her eyes. She looked up, meeting glances with Percy as the two quickly sprung apart. Thalia's laughter could be heard again, the duo making their way to opposite sides of the car.
"The others are waiting for us," the former tree finally instructed. "So, if you two can compose yourselves long enough and meet us down there, I won't speak about what I saw."
They wordlessly nodded, quickly making their way out of the truck and hurrying after Thalia.

The demigods and satyr ventured into the town of Cloudcroft, New Mexico, where nothing but a stereotypical small village awaited them. "Great," Thalia mumbled. "No bus station, taxies, car rentals, no way out."
"There's a coffee shop!" Grover pointed out.
"Yes," Zoë agreed. "Coffee is good."
"And pastries." The satyr said dreamily. "And wax paper."
"Fine," The eldest Grace sighed at their protector's antics. "You two and Amara, get us some food. Percy, Bianca, and I will check the grocery store, maybe even get us some directions."
The trio filled with the two demigods and satyr made their way into the coffee shop, ordering drinks and pastries as they awaited for their choices to be made. It didn't take long, the waiter quickly handing them their drinks as they claimed the first table outside they could find.
Percy and Bianca found them soon afterwards, Amara handing the former a hot chocolate and muffin while Zoë did the same to the latter. "We should do the tracking spell," the older huntress claimed. "Grover, do you have any acorns left?"
The satyr eyed the girl, his muffin wrapper half hanging out of his mouth. "Um," he mumbled, quickly stuffing the rest down. "I think so, I just need to—"
Their protector froze, a warm breeze rushing past the small group as Zoë gasped. "Grover," she called. "Thy cup."
But Grover had dropped his cup decorated with birds, in which said decorations peeled away from the plastic and flew away as a pack of doves. The Underwood boy fell to the ground, collapsing besides the stained snow from the brown liquid.
His brown eyes fluttered as Amara and the others quickly gathered around him, Thalia's voice echoing from across the street. "Hey!" The former tree called out. "I just . . . what happened to Grover?"
"We don't know," Percy gave a helpless shrug. "He just collapsed."
The satyr let out a groan, as if further proving the Jackson's boy statement.
"Well, get him up!" Thalia ordered, instantly drawing Amara's attention to the spear she held in her hands in a defense stance. "We have to get out of here."
They did as the older girl ordered, only able to make it to the edge of town before skeleton warriors appeared. Their outfits had been changed, now dressing the part of an Mexican police officer expect their skin and eye color had stayed the same.
Aegis spiraled to life on the eldest daughter of Zeus' arms, but the undead didn't care for the sight. Instead, their yellow eyes that seemed to glow were directed to the son of Poseidon. Amara quickly pulled her necklace free, spinning the weapon around her figure as she rolled her eyes.
"I hate the undead," the brunette mumbled as her mind went back to her unpleasant stay at Hades's palace.
"Back up," Thalia ordered, the group of demigods weapons aimed towards the skeletons. They were only able to take a step back, but two more undead warriors showed up and surrounded the group.
"It's near," Grover suddenly moaned out, his unbalanced weight nearing causing Bianca to drop him.
"Too late," Amara mumbled. "It's here."
"No," he shook his head. "The gift . . . the gift from the Wild."
But they ignored his words. "We'll be fine," the raven haired girl tried to sound reassuring. "Four of them, five of us."
"Four against four," the youngest Grace corrected her elder sister. "Someone needs to stay with Grover."
"Better plan."
"Agreed."
"The Wild!"
"I'll stay with him," Bianca volunteered, giving each of the older demigods a look. "You can handle them?"
She wasn't given an answer before Percy charged, sword raised as the remains of the Nemean Lion coat flowed behind his figure. But time seemed to slow down for Amara as a skeleton raised a gun, and fired. She couldn't get the words to form fast enough as the bullet headed the raven haired boy's way, until it finally hit him.
Time stopped all together for her, her eyes widened as Percy stumbled backwards a few steps. Thalia's eyes widened as his name escaped her lips in a yell, Zoë's mouth hung open slightly before she was forced to defend herself against a skeleton.
A skeleton launched itself at Amara, successfully bringing them to the ground as her unmoving gaze was knocked off the Jackson boy. Quickly, she sliced the undead's head off and got back on her feet.
But it was useless, the bones began clattering before they were suddenly pulled together again. She gritted her teeth, resisting the urge to check on a certain sea green eyed boy as her attention remained locked on the danger in front.
At least, until a mighty roar sounded through her ears and the sight of a thirty foot high pig knocked her skeleton to the side. Her eyes quickly widened, backing up away from the large farm animal as she kept her sword raised.
Then, the pig turned it's attention on her and the demigods that stood behind her. "Don't kill it!" Grover instructed, his voice much clearer than it had been a few moments ago.
But it seemed the boar didn't share the same ideas as the satyr, instead pawing at the ground with a dangerous look in it's eyes. "That's the Erymathian Boar," Zoë informed, her voice shaky. "I don't think we can kill it."
"It's a gift." The Underwood boy said adamantly. "A blessing from the Wild!"
Again, the animal didn't agree with the son of the Wild's ideas. It swung it's tusks in a wide arc, heading straight for Amara had it not been for a body knocking into hers as they tumbled to the side and out of danger.
"Yeah, I feel real blessed," the familiar voice of Percy Jackson sounded besides the brunette, causing her to quickly snap her head in his direction. "Scatter!"
The other three did as they were instructed, quickly splitting off into different directions while the son of Poseidon pulled Amara to her feet. "How are you alive?" She demanded, winding her arm back slightly before thrusting it forward and into the boy's arm.
He let out a noise of pain, quickly shooting her a look while rubbing the sore spot. "No idea, let's just be glad I am. Now move!" She didn't argue, quickly running in the opposite direction of the Jackson boy as the boar ran in between where they once were.
"It wants to kill us!" Thalia yelled.
"Of course," Grover agreed. "It's Wild!"
"So," Amara started, facing the satyr's direction with an arched brow. "How is that a blessing?"
This time, she was the reason for the wild creature's anger as it suddenly charged in her direction. She ran, heading across town as she played a scenario in her head while making sure the boar followed her.
At the last minute, she grabbed a wind current and flung herself into the air, successfully flying over the Welcome to CloudCroft sign. She landed on the opposite side of it, taking off running once more while the overgrown farm animal attempted to get it's head unstuck.
She ran past Grover, finally stopping in front of the forest as the pig turned on Thalia and Percy. Her older sister made the mistake of showing Aegis, only angering the creature further as it charged the duo. Soon, they ran into the woods past Amara with the monster following behind.
"Come," Zoë instructed the satyr and demigod. "We must provide assistance."
The Camp Half-Blood duo shared a look, but followed behind the hunters regardless as they made their way to a bridge on the mountainside. "Percy?" Grover yelled. "Thalia?"
"Helloooo?" The satyr continued, leaning slightly towards the edge of the cliff as if that would heighten his hearing.
"Down here!" Percy's voice drew eight eyes down to the bottom of the mountain, where Thalia stood not far back and the boar buried underneath a mountain of snow.
With struggle from the hunters and what seemed like a simple task to the campers, the group of four joined the duo as they all watched the wild beast struggle underneath the snow. "A blessing of the Wild," Grover finally spoke, looking much more agitated.
"I agree," Zoë said. "We must use it."
"Hold up," Thalia held up a hand with an annoyed expression. "Explain to me why you're so sure this pig is a blessing."
"It's our ride west." Grover gave her a look of disbelief. "Do you have any idea how fast this boar can travel?"
"Fun," Amara said, eyeing the creature. "Like, riding horses, but on a pig."
A small laugh escaped from Percy, earning himself a side eye from Zoë.
"We need to get aboard," the satyr instructed. "I wish . . . I wish I had more time to look around, but now it's gone."
"What's gone?"
But the son of the Wild ignored the son of Poseidon, instead he climbed on top of the pig. Playing a sad tune using his pipes, he tossed an apple into the air which now floated and spun around the creature's nose.
"Automatic steering," Thalia mumbled as they all watched the boar, it had begun going crazy for the piece of food. "Great."
Without another word, she made her way towards the satyr and climbed on behind him. Surprisingly, there was still enough room for the rest of the four and more. Bianca and Zoë headed towards the farm animal next, only for the latter to be stopped by Percy.
"Wait a second," he called out, earning the hunter's attention. "Do you know what Grover is talking about, this wild blessing?"
"Of course," Zoë replied. "Did you not feel it in the wind? It was so strong . . . I never thought I would sense that presence again."
"What presence?"
"The lord of the Wild, of course." She gave Percy a look like the raven haired boy was an idiot. "Just for a moment, when the boar arrived, I felt the presence of Pan."
.·:*¨༺ ༻¨*:·.
The mountains had faded into the distance after a good eight hours, instead being replaced by miles and miles of flat, dry, and plain land. "This is as far as he'll go," Grover explained, sliding off the farm animal. "We need to get off while he eats."
Nobody argued against him, the five remaining instantly slid off the side while the boar began eating ripped cacti. But it was quickly finished within a couple of bites, whirling around it took off running in the direction of east.
"Seems like it likes the mountains better," Percy assumed.
"Can't blame it," Amara said. "Look," she pointed towards the two lane road that awaited for them, half covered in sand with an abandoned taco shop across the street. There was a sign, Gila Claw, Arizona, hung half off the door of the taco shop. In a little distance away from the small abounded houses, was an enormous junkyard that looked as if it went on forever.
"Whoa,"
"Something tells me, we're not gonna find a car rental here." Thalia turned on Grover. "Don't suppose you got another wild boar up your sleeve?"
But the satyr wasn't paying attention, his nose was up as he sniffed the air. With a nervous look, he took the acorns out of his pockets and threw them into the sand. With a play of his pipes, the food quickly arranged itself into a shape that made no sense to Amara.
"That's us," he explained, lowering his pipes. "Those six nuts right there."
"Which one is me?" Percy asked.
"This one," Amara pointed at an odd shaped nut, a smirk curling onto her lips. "The little deformed one."
Zoë and Thalia smiled at her words, Percy rolled his eyes playfully at the girl. "That cluster, right there." Grover pointed somewhere in the left, drawing their attention back to him. "That's trouble."
The eldest Grace glanced around. "A monster?"
"I don't smell anything, which doesn't make sense at all," the son of the Wild held an uneasy expression as he talked. "But the acorns don't lie, our next challenge . . ."
He held out a finger, pointing towards the junkyard which now looked far creepier with the sunsetting. After that, Zoë ordered to camp out for the night as she and Bianca produced enough sleeping bags and mattresses for the rest of them.
Once the newest huntress finished setting up a small pile of wood, Thalia let a arch of electricity zap against the broken down trees, setting fire. "The stars are out," the Nightshade girl broke the silence as they all huddled around the fire.
"Amazing," Bianca said in an awestruck voice as she looked up with an amazed smile. "I've never actually seen the Milky Way."
"That is nothing," Zoë waved off the younger girl. "In the old days, there were more, whole constellations. But now gone, because of human light pollution."
"You talk like you're not human," Percy mumbled, earning the hunter's attention.
"I am a hunter, I care what happens to the wild and untouched places of the world." She arched a brow at the boy. "Can the same be said for thee?"
"For you, Zoë," Amara corrected, earning the immortal's attention. "Not thee."
"But you use you for the beginning of the sentence."
"And for the end," Thalia explained. "No thou, no thee. Just you."
"I hate this language," Zoë threw her hands up. "It changes too often!"
"If only Pan were here," Grover sighed. "He would set things right."
The oldest hunter nodded sadly.
"Maybe it was the coffee," their protector reasoned with a determined look. "I was drinking coffee, and the wind came. Maybe if I drank more coffee . . ."
Amara was sure it wasn't the coffee, but decided to allow the satyr to think it was. "Grover," she called, earning his attention. "Do you really think that was Pan?"
"He sent us help," Grover insisted. "I don't know how or why, but it was his presence. After this quest, I'm going back to New Mexico and drinking a lot of coffee, it's the best lead we've gotten in two thousand years. I was so close."
"What I want to know," Thalia leaned forward, her eyes locked on Bianca. "Is how you destroyed one of the skeletons, since there's a lot more out there, we need to find out how to fight them."
The brunette's eyes widened, her attention being directed to the oldest di Angelo. She hadn't noticed the newest hunter taking on a skeleton, much less destroying one. She must've been lost in her head still about Percy potentially dying from a bullet wound.
"I don't know," Bianca held up her hands. "I just stabbed it, next thing I knew it went up in flames."
"Is there something special about your knife?" Amara asked, focusing on the weapon. "Maybe it's different compared to our weapons."
"It is the same as mine," Zoë explained. "Celestial bronze, but mine did not affect the warriors that way."
"Maybe we need to hit them in a certain spot," Percy suggested, but the Nightshade girl was quick to change the subject once noticing the uncomfortable look Bianca bore.
"Never mind," Zoë moved on to a new topic. "We will find the answer. In the meantime, we should plan our next move. When we get through this junkyard, we must continue west, if we find a road we can hitchhike to the nearest city. I think that would be Las Vegas."
"No!" Bianca cried. "Not there!"
The older huntress frowned. "Why?"
"I . . . I think I stayed there for awhile in a hotel, Nico and I." She took a shaky breath. "When we were traveling, and then I remember . . ."
Amara met glances with Percy, a mutual thought running through both their mind. "Bianca," she called, earning the younger girl's attention. "The hotel you stayed at, was it called the Lotus Hotel and Casino?"
Her eyes widened. "How could you know that?"
The younger Grace's eyes softened, a frown twisting onto her lips. "You don't remember me, do you?"
Bianca frowned, eyeing her with an analyzing gaze before she spoke. "You . . ." she paused. "You looked familiar, like I've seen you from somewhere before we first met. But, am I supposed to remember you?"
"Wait," Thalia interrupted. "What is the Lotus Casino?"
"A couple years ago," Percy explained. "Grover, Amara, Annabeth, and I all got trapped there. It's designed so you never want to leave, we stayed roughly an hour and when we left, five days had passed,"
He quickly glanced over at Bianca, before turning his attention back to Thalia. "It's where Amara met Bianca and Nico for the first time. But clearly, since those two spent so long in there they don't remember her."
"No," the oldest di Angelo mumbled, her eyes landing on the older brunette. "No, that's not possible."
"Bianca," Amara spoke. "You said somebody got you out, do you remember what he looked like or said?"
"I . . . I don't remember. Please, I really don't want to talk about this."
"You said that D.C had changed when you went back last summer," Zoë sat forward. "You didn't remember the subway being there."
"Yes, but—"
"Bianca," the huntress continued. "Can you tell me the name of the president of the United States right now?"
"Don't be silly," Bianca said as she told them the correct name of the president.
"And," Amara said. "Who was the president before that?"
Bianca thought for a while. "Roosevelt."
Zoë swallowed. "Theodore or Franklin?"
"Franklin," the di Angelo said. "F.D.R."
"Bianca," the Nightshade girl said. "F.D.R. was not the last president. That was about seventy years ago."
"That's impossible," Bianca argued. "I . . . I'm not that old." She lifted her hands up, as if making sure they weren't as old and wrinkly as they should've been.
"It's okay, Bianca," Thalia spoke, a soft look on her face. "The important thing is you and Nico are safe, you made it out."
"But how?" Percy asked. "We were only in there for an hour and we barely escaped. How could you have escaped after being there for so long?"
"I told you." The newest hunter looked ready to burst into tears. "A man came and said it was time to leave. And—"
"But who? Why did he do it?" He pressed.
"Percy," Amara hissed, giving the older boy a warning look.
But Bianca wasn't able to answer, instead the headlights of a car shined on the group of six as they quickly moved out of the way of the dangerously approaching limousine. The back door opened next to the son of Poseidon, a sword's end touching his throat as the hunters drew their bows and Thalia her spear.
Percy backed away slowly as the sword followed him, a cruel smile curled onto the older man's lips. "Not so fast now, are you kid?"
Amara rolled her eyes at Ares, the god of war looked the same as he did back on their first quest. He didn't bother changing up his appearance, but his gaze stayed locked on the raven haired boy before him.
"Ares," Percy growled, but quickly stopped as the sword was pressed more against his flesh.
"At ease people," the god snapped his fingers as the armed demigods weapons fell to the ground. "This is a friendly meeting."
Ares' gaze returned to Percy, digging the point of his blade further under the demigods chin. "Of course, I'd like to take your head for a trophy." His eyes glanced around the four demigods and satyr. "But, someone wants to see you and I never behead my enemies in front of a lady."
"What lady?" Thalia asked.
"Well, well," the war god's attention turned to the eldest Grace as he lowered his sword and shoved the Jackson boy away. "Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus."
Percy made his way besides Amara, earning the god's attention. "And Amara Grace, you two aren't hanging out with very good company."
"What's your business, Ares?" Thalia snapped. "Who's in the car?"
"Oh, I doubt she wants to meet the rest of you, particularly not them." Ares nodded his head towards the hunters. "Why don't you all go and get some tacos while you wait, only take Percy and Amara a couple minutes."
The duo in question eyes widened slightly. "We will not leave them alone with thee," Zoë said. "Lord Ares."
"Besides," Grover managed without stuttering. "The taco place is closed."
With a snap of the war god's fingers, the taco shop suddenly light up and blazed to life. "You were saying," Ares arched a brow. "Goat boy?"
"Go on," Percy instructed. "We can handle this."
"You heard the boy." The god said. "He's big and strong, he's got things under control."
Reluctantly, the demigods and satyr made their way over to the taco shop after Thalia ruffled her younger sister's hair. Bianca was the only one to stay behind, her lip caught between her teeth as she seemed lost in thought.
"Get inside, punk," Ares instructed, lightly shoving Percy. "And mind your manners, she's not as forgiving of rudeness as I am." With a glare towards the god, the Jackson boy made his way inside the vehicle.
"Thank you," Bianca spoke up once the door shut behind the sea green eyed boy. "For attempting to make Percy less pushy about his questions."
Amara gave the girl a smirk, ruffling the hunters hair as the oldest di Angelo laughed. "Trust me," the brunette said. "I know how much his questioning can get."
"You know," Bianca said, lightly pushing the older girl's hand away. "I think you're softer than you allow people to let on, you hide it under that smirk of yours."
The youngest Grace's smirk widened, lightly shoving the hunter. "Just don't let the others know," she gave the younger girl a wink. "Okay?"
The huntress smiled. "As long as you agree to my deal."
"Oh?"
"If anything happens to me," her smirk dropped at Bianca's words. "Then can you look out for Nico for me, be there for him and take care of him?"
Wordlessly she bent down to the di Angelo's level, but when their gazes met she could tell the younger girl was serious. "Okay," Amara finally said. "Only if something happens to you, I'm gonna try my best to get you back to Nico."
Bianca smiled, but wasn't able to get any words out as the vehicle door opened. Immediately, Percy made his way out with a dazed look. Sea green met electric blue irises as the former eyes widened, looking away immediately causing the latter to arch a brow.
"Come on Grace," Ares spoke. "Your turn."
She didn't listen right away, instead instructing the huntress to join the others and then made her way inside the limousine once the younger girl did so. Upon making her way in, she stopped at the women before her.
Her hair was perfectly curled, like the ocean waves that shined against the moonlight. She bore a red satin dress with the most perfect face Amara's ever seen, dazzling eyes, and a smile that would lit up the moon.
The women grinned brightly and it was then she recognized her to be Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. "Amara, it's so good to see you again," the goddess gave a warm smile as the demigod sat across from her. "Hi," the brunette greeted plainly.
"Aren't you adorable," Aphrodite handed the younger girl a polished mirror. "Hold this please." The love goddess began fixing her lipstick, but Amara couldn't find any flaws that needed fixing.
"You know," the goddess began. "I've been having a little trouble with you." She ignored the narrowing of electric blue eyes and continued talking. "You seem to be moving slowly about accepting a certain prophecy do yours."
Amara's electric blue irises immediately became cold, wishing for the prophecy to disappear. "But, it also seems you're unknowingly coming to terms with it. Such as that nickname you gave Percy Jackson, what was it again? Ah yes, Beasty."
Her eyes widened while Aphrodite let out a soft humming noise. "I mean, you truly are living up to the Beauty and the Beast prophecy I have given you a couple years ago."
The brunette lowered the mirror for a spilt second, the goddess immediately catching the action and motioned for her to bring it back up. "The best love story that could've been created," the love goddess continued. "I mean, enemies to friends to lovers? Amara Grace and Perseus Jackson, I can see it now."
She let out a dreamy sigh. "No one could ask for anything more."
"Yeah, well," a grumble escaped from Amara as she focused her attention to her feet. "Not gonna happen."
Soft laughter escaped from Aphrodite. "I wouldn't be so sure, my dear. I haven't had to even do anything, and you began falling for him on your own."
She scoffed, immediately disagreeing. "No, Percy's just a friend. That's all, end of story."
"Yeah?"
"Yep."
"Then," the goddess gave an innocent look. "Why are you still wearing his hoodie?"
She opened her mouth, but wasn't able to defend her actions for still wearing the hoodie. Aphrodite hummed, returning her attention to the mirror as she did one last touch to her makeup. "I thought so."
Finally, she took the mirror away from the daughter of Zeus. "You have made good progress Amara. You can act like you hate the prophecy you've been given all you want, but inside we both know you're secretly coming to terms with it."
The love goddess folded her hands together, giving the younger girl a gentle smile. "Just like we both know you're close to smiling again, all because of him."
She leaned forward, taking one of Amara's hand in hers as she spoke again. "And, we both know how you're feeling towards the son of Poseidon. All these things, deep down inside we both know and recognize to be true, you're just too stubborn to show it."
Aphrodite let go of the demigods hand, her smile widening. "And as the goddess of love, it's my duty to help you get there. So, let me help you make the first step today."
With a snap of the goddess's fingers, red hearts flew towards Amara as they quickly surrounded her body. Within a short moment, they disappeared into thin air as the women smiled. "Well? Have a look."
Aphrodite offered the mirror to the demigod, and the latter began analyzing herself. Her converses had been replaced, instead now she bore black combat boots that ended a little above her ankle.
Her plan black jeans were switched out for a newer high waisted black pair, holes on her knees. On her left leg, a giant rose was seen above her knee as vines decorated with leaves traveled a little under it before making it's way up to her upper thigh where another giant rose ended the journey.
Percy's black hoodie was gone, giving her a slight moment of panic until she realized it was wrapped around her waist. Her once plain black t-shirt was now a yellow short sleeve shirt, lightly tied on the right side with a bow.
Instead of the Jackson boy's hoodie keeping her warm, she was given a light blue denim jacket with a rose stitched onto the back. Her curly dark brown hair had been freed from it's ponytail, instead, her curls amplified as they flowed down her back with the other half up in a bun at the back of her head.
Small hoops dangled from her ears, roses decorating the middle as she gave the goddess a look. Luckily, Aphrodite didn't touch her father's gift of a necklace and ring, the former still resting against her chest and the latter on her finger.
"Really?" Amara asked dryly, arching a brow at the love goddess. But she was waved off, Aphrodite's smile widening. "Oh hush, we both know you don't hate it otherwise your powers would be making an appearance by now."
The limousine door was pulled open, Ares' head poking through as he gave the girl a look. "Come on Grace," the god of war spoke. "Times up."
Aphrodite looked like she was ready to argue, but Amara was more than grateful for the exit ticket as she quickly got to her feet. "Wait," the goddess grabbed her hand, preventing her from fully walking out. "Amara, I know you don't allow yourself to have happiness or what you think is being soft. But this once, trust in him and never doubt your feelings for him."
She couldn't say anything, the whole conversation spinning through her mind as she made her way out and past Percy in a hurry. The raven haired boy didn't notice the difference at first, merely questioning why she was leaving in a hurry.
He went to walk after her, but Ares' voice reached his ears as a mini argument erupted. Amara could care less, she was too busy thinking over what the goddess of love had said. Majority of it, she knew to be the truth though she wished it wasn't.
