Katerina Petrov was stolen from her family at the age of two. She had no memories or recollection of her parents. The only thing she had ever known was Dreykov, the man who stole her life away, and the Red Room. The place where she was chemically subdued and trained in assassination and espionage with other little girls; some older, some younger.

Early on, she was placed with two other girls, Yelena Belova and Natasha Romanoff. They were sent to Ohio to live with Melina Vostokoff and Alexei Shostavok where they played a happy little family until it was time for them to start their training.

From then on, Katerina trained every single day. She went on missions. She killed. She was one of Dreykov's greatest accomplishments. He had her under his complete control along with the other widows. Until Katerina was sent on a mission to Morocco where she and Yelena Belova were both exposed to a red dust that freed them from Dreykov's mind control, and gave them their chance to run and hide with the only existing vials of red dust.

In attempt to keep the red dust out of the Red Room's possession, they sent it to the one person they hoped it would be safe with. Unfortunately, she shows up at their safe house with some not so great news.
