- mother - fatima al-wadeen, she's the town's new mayor after moving to Hawkins from California. she's very wealthy, being a real estate agent, and sold the byers' their new house after season 1. shes good friends with karen wheeler, and lovers her daughter more than anything. however, fatima's pride and strictness has strung out their relationship over the years.
RELATIONSHIPS
- NANCY. her best friend, and one of the people she doesnt mind how she acts around. shes been with her through everything, and one of the only people aware of her problems.
- KAREN. she found herself really looking up to karen wheeler whenever she was over, especially with how nice she treated her. she used to wonder why her mother wasnt the same.
- MAXINE. she was hired by susan to tutor maxine, and she's gotten along very well with the redhead, even considering her the little sister she never had.
- ELEVEN. like maxine, hopper hired her to help step up her education. she was saved by eleven from a demogorgon, so she thinks highly of the girl.
- MIKE. being over at nancy's alot, she was bound to get to know mike. thinks of him as an annoying, but loveable little brother.
- STEVE. she tutored steve ever since he asked for help on some english assignment and has snuck him some test answers before. he drives her home after school if they're both free.
- JONATHAN. she befriended jonathan despite him known as the "freak" of the school. she never really understood why they called him that, he was just quiet.
- WILL. shes only interacted him with a few times, thinks of him as a very nice boy, and feels bad for the torment he went through.
- LUCAS & ERICA. rarely has interacted with them, and she has, it's usually erica sassing her.
- DUSTIN. she thinks he's irritating, but she does have a soft spot for him. does give him tips about girls when he asks, and scolds him for language
- CHRISSY. she and her are really good friends!! she loves spending time with cheerleader, and one of the only people who knows what her mom's like. shared mommy issues.
- ROBIN. met her in a math class, she became intrigued by her in all honesty. they became closer after they graduated, and secretly thinks her rambling is very cute.
- BILLY. they dont get along well; she and him have more of a frenemy type of relationship. hates the way he acts towards lucas and maxine, but she cannot hate him as a person. they both share a heavy set of parental issues.
- EDDIE. she honestly finds him funny. weird? yes. a little crazy? totally. but, hes himself and she likes that. they used to he really close as kids, but have become distant as they began to grow.
- FATIMA. dont get me wrong, she loves her mother more than she loves life itself. however, they have an extremely flawed relationship - and the two of them both need some time in therapy.

BACKSTORY
- eleanor was raised by a single mother, and never knew who her father was. she stopped asking after her mother told her he was not a part of their lives, and would never be. coming from a wealthy syrian family and carving her own path left fatima with high expectations. fatima wanted only the best for her daughter, and only the best out of her. she made her take dance lessons for music she never really liked, focus more on books than on friends, and would hire private tutors to help her excel in class. praise wasn't simply given, it was earned. all eleanor wanted was her mother's approval, so yes, she skated, yes, she won competitions, and yes, she could handle not being like other girls with their other moms. candy and chocolate was foreign to her, anything that didnt help her maintain a nice body wasnt allowed. to this day. noora's still sick at the thought of consuming a bag of chips by herself. all she really wanted was to go out to the park with her mom, like all the other girls did. or go shopping or maybe even watch a film. however, fatima was always too busy for "stupid" things, and that she should focus more on her studies than playing around. was scared to mess up anything. no was something her mother didn't understand, and even if eleanora tried to rebel against what she wanted, her gaslighting could go so far. her mother freaked out more over A-minuses, than celebrated her achievements. the type of mother to say "i love you" after calling you every name and insult in the book. comments like these made it hard for eleanora to actually talk to her mother and would sweat at the slightest change of her voice. her mother never really hit her, but there were times she'd slap her, if she was really angry. nothing cuts like a mother.
