04 ≫ small knives

A/N- keep in mind that they haven't made their web-shooters yet, but they will later on :)

(3rd Person POV)

After about a week, Peter ended up coming back to school. Kids passed him in the hallway, giving him looks of pity and sorrow. Even Flash didn't bother him, which was nice. He did have a load of homework to catch up on though, even though Eliza had been bringing him his homework. Ned, MJ, and Katie all said that they were really sorry for his loss and that if there was anything they could do, to tell him. He just gave them a small smile and nodded. What no one knew was that when he was at home that past week, he had been formulating a plan to catch the guy that had shot Uncle Ben.

Eliza had noticed that he was a little out of it today at lunch, so she pulled him aside. "Hey Peter, you doing ok? You seemed like you were in a bit of a daze," she said.

"Yeah, I'm doing a little better than the past few days," he responded, looking down a bit. "I just really miss him." Eliza's eyes softened as she pulled him into a hug.

"Everything's gonna be okay Pete," she said while rubbing his back.

He sighed and pulled away, "I know. It will be once I catch this dude," he muttered, hoping she wouldn't hear.

But she did hear. "What do you mean, 'catch this dude'?" She had a moment of realization. "Are you looking for the guy that killed Uncle Ben?" He flinched, but nodded, waiting for her to tell him not to, and to let the authorities handle this one. But she didn't, instead she said, "Okay, I want to help."

"What?! No! I can't put you in that kind of danger."

Eliza huffed, rolling her eyes and looking away.

"What?" Peter asked.

"You do remember that I have the same powers as you, right?" Eliza said to him.

"Oh, yeah. I kinda forgot," he said while scratching the back of his neck, "Okay, you can help. Come over after school." She nodded, and they walked back to the lunch table to sit with their friends.

(~time skip~)

"Ok so, we know that this dude is a caucasian male in his 30's, 170-180 pounds, and shoulder length blond hair," Eliza said.

"How do you even know all that?" Peter asked, looking at her weirdly. They had been in sitting in Peter's room, looking at the sketch artist's drawing and searching the internet, trying to figure out who and where this guy was.

"I may or may not have been able to create a device that connects to the police radios of precincts 104-116th," Eliza shrugged, continuing to type away on her laptop. Peter looked at her dumbfounded.

"How the hell did you manage to do that?" he asked.

"Eh, just used the satellite connection that I have through my phone, used those walkie talkies that we used to play with as kids, and made the dial a way to adjust the static that comes with the police radios to get a clearer audio. Took about 15 minutes." Eliza looked up from her laptop and smirked at Peter, who was looking at her with his mouth hanging open.

"....okaaayy....Anyways," he shook his head, "we can use the police radios to find any suspects that they have, but I don't think that we'll get an exact guy, so it might take a while. My plan is, we catch the guy, beat him up a little, teach him a lesson, and then take him to one of the precincts."

Eliza nodded. "Ok, good plan. Although...if we're planning to beat him up, he could see our faces."

Peter thought for a moment. "What if we made masks? Like out of fabric or something. I think Aunt May has some stashed somewhere." He got up, scrambling around the apartment, looking for something to make masks. He came back into his room with two pieces of fabric in his hands, "Halloween 2012, we dressed up as those really weird wrestlers, remember?" he said, throwing the mask at her.

She laughed at the memory, grabbing the mask, "Yeah, we saw them on tv. Then we tried to beat each other up with the masks on."

"We were like pro-wrestlers, it was awesome."

"Yeah, except I still have this," she said, pointing to a small scar above her right eyebrow, "you pushed me into the coffee table and I had to get stitches dumbass."

"I know, and I apologized like 3,000 times," Peter said. Eliza just playfully glared at him. "Anyways, we can use these masks to cover our faces, then he won't see us and turn us in."

"Ok. Do you think we ca-"

Eliza was cut off by the sound of the police radio. "Attention all units, receiving a 10-30 on West 19th street and Broadway. The suspect is a caucasian male in his mid 30's, 170-180 pounds, and shoulder length blond hair, last seen on 4th heading East street down to 19th."

Eliza and Peter looked at each other with wide eyes.

"That's our exact guy, let's go." Peter said. They rushed around his room, both putting on black hoodies, and the masks. Peter's mask was bright red with black eye holes and Eliza's was black with dark pink eye holes. She also grabbed some ropes, to tie the guy up. They jumped out of the window, crawling up the walls and following the sirens.

--------------------------------------------------------------

The valet had just taken the keys from his guest, starting the car and parking it next to the others. He ran back to the party, going back to do his job. What he didn't notice was a guy hiding behind the car, waiting for the valet to leave, to try and hi-jack it. He had a frantic look in his eyes because the police were trying to track him down. He quickly took a crowbar, trying to open the car to get away faster.

"You know, in the future, if you're gonna steal cars, don't dress like a car thief." A muffled voice said. The man looked behind him to see a guy leaning against the car with a black hoodie and a red mask on.

"Who are you? You with the police?" the man said.

The other guy scoffed, "No, I have a bright red mask on. Last time I checked that isn't part of the authorities attire."

The man trying to steal the car pulled out a knife and the masked guy gasped dramatically, falling to his knees.

"NO!! MY WEAKNESS!!!! SMALL KNIVES!!"

A female voice was heard. "So, you like stealing cars, killing old men?" she asked, jumping down from her place stuck to the wall, dropping behind the man, quickly grasping his hands and encasing them in the ropes that she was holding. She turned him around and pushed his face against the wall ruffly, then rolled his sleeve to see if he had a tattoo.

And there lay a small black star on his wrist. They had caught him.

Police sirens were heard in the distance. The guy with a red mask on, walked over to the two and turned him around, punching him in the teeth. His face flew to the side, blood coming out of his nose.

(a/n- this might? be a a trigger, just to be safe.)

A cop showed up on a motorcycle. He asked, "Who are you guys?" and pointed a gun at them. They both raised their hands up in the air.

"You know, no one really seems to grasp the concept of the mask do they?" the male said.

"Freeze!" the cop said. He started shooting bullets at the two of them. But they dodged each and every one of them.

The female quickly grabbed the man's gun, then dropped it on the ground. "I just did 80% of your job, and this is how you repay me?"

More police cars started to show up. The masked pair looked around and started to climb up the walls, jumping from building to building, making their way back to the apartments.

(Peter's POV)

Eliza and I sat on the edge of out apartment building's rooftop, discussing our evening adventure.

"The way you tied him up and smooshed his face into the wall? That was so badass," I said, shaking my head.

"Ok, but you punched him in the teeth, that was pretty cool. He might have to have dental work in jail," she chuckled. There were a few minutes of comfortable silence after that. I thought it was really cool that I had these powers now, and it was even better that Eliza had them too. She always makes me feel like I'm not alone when I do everything. I'm really glad she's my best friend. Besides Ned.

"That was really awesome," I said. "And I feel like we make a really good team." She turned her head to look at me. "Maybe we should like, fight crime and stuff together."

She smiled. "Like the Avengers do?"

"Yeah, it would be pretty cool. I mean, if we have these powers, we wouldn't want them to go to waste or anything." She thought for a moment before slowly nodding. "These powers... they're the powers of a spider, right?" She nodded, "But spider's spin webs..."

"Are you suggesting that we could spin spider webs out of our butts?" She asked jokingly.

I laughed before saying, "Nonononono. I'm suggesting that maybe we could make some sort of...web fluid. You know how you used ropes to tie that guy up?" She nodded. "Well maybe if we could create a string of substances that is strong enough, we could use it to tie up more bad guys, but way easier than using ropes."

"We could try and mix some stuff together in the lab at school? I already have a formula forming in my head," she smiled.

I laughed, "Of course you do." Eliza had always been really smart, right behind me in almost all of our classes together. I always teased her about it and she would glare at me. Although she was ahead of me in math....but whatever.

-------------------------------------------------------

"Ok, this web fluid is kinda like nylon. On contact with air, the long-chain polymer knits and forms an extremely tough, flexible fiber with extraordinary adhesive properties. The web fluid's adhesive quality diminishes rapidly with exposure to air. After approximately 2 hours, certain imbibed esters cause the solid form of the web fluid to dissolve into a powder," Eliza said.

I blinked at her. She looked at me, "What?"

I shook my head with a small smile, "Nothing. You're just really smart."

"hA. No, I'm not I actua-" she started.

"oH MY GOD why can't you just take the fRICKIN COMPLIMENNNT!!!!!!"

Eliza started laughing hysterically. Once she calmed down, she wiped her tears of laughter, still chuckling a bit and turned to me, her dark blue eyes staring deep into my own. She said quietly, "Thank you Peter."

I gulped a little, "Y-you're welcome Eli."

We had been working in the lab at school, trying to make a perfect web fluid formula. After about an hour, Eliza made it. Then we just had to test it out. We gathered our things to go to my apartment, to make compartments to hold the web fluid so that we could attach it to our wrists. Having it on our wrists would make it easier to press the button that activated the web fluid, so we decided to call the devices web shooters

As we were heading out the door, we ran into Ned and MJ.

"Hey guys. What were you doing in the science lab? It's like an hour after school. You missed Decathlon practice," MJ said.

"We were...uhh," I said, trying to come up with something. 'creatiNg a wEb fLuid fOrMuLa tO fiGhT bAd gUys' wasn't a really good answer. Even if it was the truth.

"Yeah, we were just...science! Doing our science homework. In the science lab. Because... you know, it's easier to do the science homework when you're in the science room. Because that's just science," Eliza said.

"Ok, you said science way to many times in that sentence for that to be true-" Ned said.

"We have to go," I cut in, grabbing Eliza's arm and dragging her to the exit, "Bye!" I said, looking over my shoulder to see Ned and MJ with furrowed eyebrows. They were giving each other wtf? looks.

(~time skip~) (Eliza's POV)

Peter and I were on top of the roof to test our web shooters. We had figured out a way to compress the web fluid into a small vial, making a compartment to fit the vial in. I studied the web shooter that was attached to my wrists, a thick wire trailing up my hand to a button in the middle of my palm that when I pressed it, the web fluid came shooting out of the device. Hence the name, web shooters. (basically the diagram down below)

I had my camera around my neck, because usually at this time of day, there was a really nice sunset. I had a collection of photos of Peter's silhouette doing weird poses in front of the sunset on my photo wall in my room.

Peter stood on the edge of the building. I told him to be careful, not go too far. He just ignored me. He did a handstand. Part of his shirt fell down, revealing his very toned stomach. I tried not to stare. He jumped onto his fingertips, then onto one hand. Then onto two fingers. I snapped a quick photo, and smiled at the picture. He stayed like that for about 5 seconds, before he started to fall backwards.

"PETER!" I screamed. He was falling off the building, I dropped my camera and jumped after him. Then I realized I was falling too. I pressed the button on my palm, and in a split second, a web had attached to the top of building across the street, keeping me from hitting the ground. I had a moment of panik,

(a/n i'm sorry.)

thinking it wasn't going to work, but then my feet landed softly on an alleyway ground. I looked to my left to see Peter sitting on his ass.

"Ruff landing?" I said sarcastically. He rolled his eyes, jumping up and dusting himself off.

"Shut up." he muttered. I laughed and walked over to the alleyway wall, making sure no one was looking, and started to climb it, Peter close behind me. When we got to the top, I high fived him, smiling widely.

"So, if we just press the button while aiming for a surface, we can swing around town," Peter said. I nodded.

"Yeah. Wait, we have masks, but we might need whole suits if we're gonna actually do this crime fighting thing," I said.

"Yeah ok," he said, "let me see what I can come up with."

A/N- ok! I promise that it gets A LOT better once we get into the civil war/homecoming era. Eliza's suit is basically spider-gwen's suit but instead of a white mask, it's black and also it has a spider emblem in the middle. I will be showing the suit in the next chapter. Peter's suit is just the one from homecoming.
