chapter seven⇻

(sorry i skipped jessica's trial. so this is ep 4 oops?)

TODAY WAS THE DAY WHERE MARCUS COLE WAS TESTIFYING, KARA WAS GOING TO BE THERE FOR HANNAH AND HER MOTHER. Because Marcus wants to protect himself and his reputation. And he will do anything to do for it even lie on a dead girl's behalf. Kara stood in her room and straightened out her black dress that was loose, it came to the top of her knee. She pulled her brunette hair back into a high ponytail. She put minimum makeup on, she only applied mascara and pink lip gloss. She looked into her vanity set and nodded to herself. "You can do this." She muttered to herself. Her eyes trailed over to a picture that was taped. It was her and Hannah in a photo booth.

She laughed softly as she remembered the day vividly. They were at the city's carnival and they had a photo booth. She remembered all the funny things that they laughed about. A knock on the door interrupted her thoughts. She looked over to her mother who forced out a smile. "You ready, honey?"

"Yeah." She said, shaking her head, dismissing her thoughts.

She decided to take her car instead. She followed her mother's car, she heard her phone go off. Kara looked down for a minute, grabbing her phone.

scott reed:
you going to trial today?
omg you might be driving
eyes on the road lady! forget me.

Kara did what the text said to, Kara furrowed her eyebrows. She had lost her mother's car. "Damn it." She muttered. Her mother gave her an address. Kara pulled on the side of the road and got GPS working. She started to drive once again, her mind was out of it today. All of a sudden, she snapped back into reality to see a jeep going on her side of the road, coming towards her. The jeep was coming closer until  she swerved off of the road.  She got out of her car and stormed off to where the jeep was going.

"Motherfucker!" She yelled as she flipped them off. That jeep looked awfully familiar. She sighed and groaned. She got in her car and tried to get her car back onto the road. No such luck.

mum:
where r you?

kara:
got lost and this guy tried to run me off the side of the road.

getting a ride from a friend

Kara then called Scott.

"Kara?" Scott answered through the phone. She sighed heavily into the phone. "What's wrong?" He questioned.

"This douche tried to run me off the road." She muttered. "Can you pick me up? I'm on the side of road on Sunny Boulevard."

"Coming as soon as I can." Scott said before hanging up.

Kara threw pebbles into the middle of the road while waiting. Scott's car pulled up, it was a silver sedan. It wasn't fancy as Zach's and it wasn't like Clay's bicycle. She got inside, Scott was wearing his letterman jacket with a dark grey t-shirt under it. He smiled softly as she buckled herself in. "So what happened?" Scott questioned as he drove to the court.

"I heard my phone ring and that was because of your texts. I looked at your texts but didn't respond and I then lost my mom so I pulled to the side of the road to enable GPS. Then this douche was driving on the wrong side of the road. When it got too close, I had to swerve off the road, landing my car into a ditch." Kara explained while she folded her arms. "What car was it?" Scott insisted.

"Some jeep." She mumbled

"Must be Bryce's or Monty's." Scott muttered under his breath. "I'm going to kill thos-"

"Don't worry, Scott. I can do that perfectly." Kara said with a small smile. The car started to slow down, it was her stop. "Thanks so much." Kara thanked before she hopped out of the car. Scott watched her run into the court. Damn why is she so cute, Scott thought.

Kara entered the court and sat down quietly in the back. She made direct eye contact with Marcus. "When you feel left out, when you feel like this high school world is against you. It can be lonely and frightening. I wouldn't want anyone to feel that way. Which is why I signed up for Dollar Valentines and why I invited Hannah out."

"And was there a reason you chose Hannah in particular?" The lawyer inquired.

"I knew that she'd had some tough times at school." Marcus explain. "It was her first year." He clarified. "I want to show her that there were good kids at Liberty. So I asked her on a date."

In what world does that make sense, Kara thought while she narrowed her eyes at him. "She seemed excited. Grateful for the attention, a little sad. We met at Rosie's diner. And at first, it seemed like things were going really well. And at first it seemed like things were going really well. I mean, she seemed like she was having a good time." Marcus explained. Kara remembered when Hannah came running it, crying. Mum and Dad weren't home, Kara went up to her bedroom and comforted her. Hannah told her everything, what he tried to do. "And so, at some point, I tried to hold her hand. But I guess she took it the wrong way."

"Why do you say that?"

"She yelled at me." Marcus said, with a nonchalant face. "Pushed me out of the booth."

"Because you touched her hand?" The lawyer questioned.

"Yes."

"I mean, if a young woman yells at you and physically pushes you off of her, don't you think she might have felt threatened or unsafe?"

"Objection!" A lady who looked like a lawyer stood up. "Speculation."

"Withdrawn." The lawyer apologized. "I'll rephrase. Marcus, did you at any time ask Hannah why she pushed you out of the booth?"

"No. I was confused. I left right after that."

"And in the days that followed, did you talk to anyone about your date with Hannah?" The lawyer tried to pry.

"I was hurt after I got rejected. Come on, dude. So I vented to some of my friends about it. I never should have said anything. I should have known people would twist my words. I feel terrible. Because that's the thing about gossip. Once it starts, it's hard to get away." Kara growled under her breath while the nails dug into her palm. The court was dismissed, Marcus was standing towards his dad. "Can I talk to you Marcus?" Kara asked politely.

"I'll leave you too alone." Mr. Cole excused himself.

"You fucking lied." She said bluntly.

"Keep your fucking voice down." Marcus warned.

"You little-"

"Listen." Marcus cuts off.

"Face it, Hannah lied. Your precious sister lied. Or whatever you call her, you're not even her real sister. I heard you were fucking adopted from a foster home. You don't shit what happened. You don't have proof. So get lost, you foster kid freak. Once a foster kid freak always-" Before Marcus could finish the statement, Kara threw a punch causing his head to jerk back. She lunged for him and pinned her towards the ground. "Get off me you freak!" Kara was about to hit him again but she felt getting pried off of him.

She struggled to release her anger, she got one hand free and accidentally swung a punch towards a police officer. More officers swarmed her and pushed her to the wall. She felt her hands becoming restrained. "Kara!" Her mom ran over to her while the officers started to push her outside. She was led to a police car, she was shoved into the back seat. "Where are you taking my daughter!"

"She hit one of the police officers and a witness. You either can pay for probation or she'll have to spend couple nights in jail."

Kara saw Marcus walking out of the court holding his nose. I hope I broke it, Kara mumbled in her head.
