According to Margaret, I was nothing short of a cosmic mess. Damon ghosting me had led me into a dark road of sadness and a longing in the weeks following the Valentine's day that I couldn't quite comprehend. I was right to tell him, yes but I am not sure what I expected. I was a creature of the night, a cursed being who was granted immortality to remember every mistake that I have made.
"Okay, now stop," Margaret rolled her eyes at me, "Damon Salvatore is a good person and he wouldn't tell anyone your secret!"
We were currently sitting in my room, since Margaret's brothers and her father had gone to some meeting at the Salvatore Mansion. Margaret was sitting on my bed while I paced around in my room.
"What's the time now?"
"It's been five minutes since you asked me last, Maggie."
For some reason, she had also been asking me the time continuously and looking at the window. She was probably planning on seeing Christopher tonight.
I sat down next to Margaret with a sigh.
"He hates me. I am a monster."
Then I felt someone hit my head with pillow. It didn't hurt as much as it ruined my hair.
"Ouch...? Maggie!"
"Stop being whiny," my best friend chided, "I am trying to see the clock-"
"You know, you can get up and see the time," I groaned, tired of bending to see how many minutes have passed on the clock in my room.
"Now, Charlie, why will I do that when I have you?"
I was going to give a witty reply when a sound came from outside the window, as if someone was throwing stones at it.
"Maggie, do you know what that sound is?"
The girl just shrugged, "You are the three hundred year old vampire. Check it out."
I rolled my eyes at her, still afraid because the Town Council knew of vampires. There's a fear inside me that says that I have been caught.
As soon as I opened my window, I barely had time to register the raven-black hair before I was tumbling down to my floor with a body on top of me.
"Damon?"
There he was, in all of his glory- the boy who stole my dead heart.
He cupped my mouth with his hand as Margaret's laugh became more of a background buzz- all I could see was him.
"Jesus, Charlotte!" He groaned and spoke with a dry tone, rubbing his head, "Why don't you tell the entire town I am here? I am sure Mr. Forbes won't kill me for sneaking in."
I blinked- what was Damon doing here?
Slowly, he got off me and pulled me back to my feet, his blue eyes twinkling with mischief.
"I- Damon what are you doing here?"
Margaret smirked and got off the bed, "I ought to give you two love-birds some privacy."
I was confused.
"Did you know he was coming?"
My best friend rolled her eyes at my supposed foolishness, "Why do you think I was so worried about the time?"
I just stared at her and then turned back to the gentleman who snuck into my bedroom.
"Why are you here, Damon?" My voice was shaky, "You shouldn't be here."
He was close to me and I could feel his breath on my neck. His warmth was pulling me in, asking what was stopping me.
"I wanted to see you," he whispered, taking my face in his hands, forcing my eyes to meet his.
"I thought you hated me."
"I could never hate you, Char."
Perhaps it was the way he called me 'Char'. My shell broke.
I turned away from him, "You should. I- I am not a good person."
"And yet you are the kindest I have ever met."
"How- How can you bear to look at who I am? I am a monster, Damon- I am a vampire."
He nodded and took my hands in his own and somehow- my chocolate brown eyes found his once again.
"Because I love you," he spoke, "I have ever since I laid my eyes upon you and I- I can't explain it but-"
"You love me?" I asked, still not sure of the words I just heard.
"No, Miss Petrova," Damon rolled his eyes, playfully, "I climb through a window to a woman's bedroom in broad daylight for everyone."
I smiled, my eyes filled with tears I didn't know I was holding. I didn't think love was possible for someone like me. I have seen countless times as Rebekah fell in love and all my life, I had wondered what it would feel like. Now, I knew.
"I love you too," I finally spoke, "And- and I know I don't deserve you b-"
He shut me up with a quick kiss.
Suddenly the door burst open and soon Margaret was back with a proud grin- "I want a special dedication at your wedding!"

The next morning, I left the Gilbert House before anyone was awake. I don't know why- perhaps I was ashamed because even now at my darkest it was that face that resembled my sister that picked up my pieces. But then, perhaps, Elena wasn't that bad and had honest intentions.
Nevertheless, I would consider extending my hand in friendship with her later since I have a few Mikaelson's to take care of. Well, at least a blonde bitch who broke my trust.
"Oh Charlotte!" Kol brought me back from the though of breaking Rebekah's neck in four different directions, "What about Rome?"
While Klaus was on the couch, sketching his worries away, the both of us were discussing the places we had our biggest bloodbath. Australia was still winning.
"No, that's between London and that place in Pakistan remember. It wasn't that.... red."
Kol nodded in agreement.
Re-bitch then entered the living room.
"Well, well, well, there's our girl!" Kol stood before her in an instant and blocked her way while I gave out a half-hearted laugh. She was still wearing her green dress and her heels were in her left hand.
"Get out of my way, Kol," Rebekah answered, not acknowledging my presence in the room.
"Out all night. What a scandal! I trust you did better than that commoner? Matt, was it?" Kol laughed in amusement as I too stood up and made my place behind him.
"Of course she did!" I laughed in fake amusement, "I mean- Rebekah Mikaelson! She just has a way to charm every heart."
She still wouldn't meet my eyes.
"Nice to see you again, Charlotte dear," Rebekah said making me roll my eyes, "And if you don't shut your mouth, Kol, the next thing to come out of it will be your teeth."
I looked back at the couch to see Klaus grinning like a mad man.
"Don't start, Nik!" Rebekah groaned in annoyance and I just wanted to punch her stupid teeth in-
"No, Nik," I spoke with my eyes wide, "I quite enjoy it."
Rebekah finally looked at me and I could see the uncertainty in her eyes. She doesn't want me to know. This was a wound that I had no explanation for. Sure, I knew Damon slept around a lot. It was expected of both of us after the epic fail we call our marriage. But to think it would be Rebekah.
"I didn't say anything," Nik smirked, "But Stanislava insists."
"I'm bored. Our sister is a strumpet, but at least she's having fun-" I winced at the mention of her fun, "-I need entertainment."
Klaus rolled his eyes at his brother, "What are you waiting for? Go on, have at it."
Kol pouted.
"It's not fun to go alone. Join me, Nik! It's the least you can do after sticking a dagger in my heart," he spoke, making me laugh out loud. Over the years, I had forgotten how fun Kol was and still can be.
I smiled fondly, "I'll join too. God knows I haven't had proper liquor ever since I arrived here. So, Nik?"
After a moment's thought, Klaus also agreed to join us, "Okay. Why not? I didn't have nearly enough to drink last night, what with Kol trying to murder Rebekah's date."
"Well, it isn't like the human was much," I laugh, "I mean-" I turn and look at Rebekah, "- We wouldn't want something so easily breakable, right Bex?"
She knows that I know- I can see it in her eyes, a fear that she is trying to hide. And I know why she is scared. Rebekah knows that I can't harm her. She is scared of hurting me.
But she already hurt me- worse than anything I could have ever expected.
"Yes, please go, this house has enough men rolling around it in," Rebekah rolled her eyes as an attempt to diffuse the attention but the boys obviously paid no attention to it.
Klaus smiled at me, "See you at bar, Charlie."
I nodded at him just as Kol yelled- "Just like you, Bekah."
Huh.... true.
As expected, Rebekah didn't find it as funny as I did and threw her shoe at Kol. "Good riddance, both of you!" She shouted before gulping and turning her face towards mine.
"You know."
It wasn't a question.
"What do you think, Rebekah?" My voice is low and there are no tears left inside me to cry. I can't cry because being the weak Petrova sister brought me nothing but heart break. No, I didn't wake up a different woman but then, I have never really been so angry at Rebekah.
"I am so sorry-" Her eyes are clouded over with guilt and a part of me wants to forgive her but I can't. The sound of her saying- 'She will never find out' is haunting me and for once in my life- I can blame someone other than my sister and myself (and maybe even a certain Salvatore) for my misfortune.
"Shut up."
And then I did the one thing I have really wanted to do- I slapped her, the sound of my hand against her face an echo in the empty room.
"You deserve that," I rolled my eyes at her and started making my way out of the house, "I thought you were my best friend, Rebekah but clearly I was wrong."
I walked out because honestly- there's only so much hurt a person can take.
"Hello boys," I greeted as I joined the pair at the Mystic Grill. They were only a few drinks in but I knew that Kol had already annoyed Klaus into day dreaming about binges and probably blonde girls.
They both smiled and nodded, "Are you alright?" Klaus asked me after a few human heartbeats.
"Physically? Yes I am."
He shot me a look.
"I don't want to talk about it," I shrugged, "If I wanted to be human and all touchy-depressing-feeling-speaking, I would rather go to someone like Elijah. I am sorry Nik, but you are emotionally and mentally unstable, she said with no offence."
Klaus pouted as Kol gave out a loud laugh, but I was sure to shut it down, "You are worse off, Kol."
For some reason, Kol kept staring at the pool table where a man (I am sure I saw him yesterday in Elena's house sprawled across the couch) played a game with his friend. She was pretty.
I ignored Kol because I couldn't care less.
Just as I was about to ask Klaus about how this entire hybrid ordeal worked, his eyes were once again on the blonde girl from last night's ball who was thankfully, not wearing my dress right now.
Kol, obviously didn't miss her too, pointing at the blonde beauty, "I remember her from last night. She looks like a tasty little thing."
I groaned, "Shut it, please Kol."
Klaus too, of course didn't find his brother's words amusing, "Say another word and I'll tear out your liver. Caroline!"
The girl was definitely not happy to see them.
"Oh, it's you," She spoke with an eye roll, and maybe it was the way she spoke- she sounded a lot like another girl I used to know.
"Join us for a drink?" The 1000 year-old hybrid's flirting skills made almost groan out loudly.
The girl- Caroline made a disgusted face, "Mmm, I'd rather die of thirst. But thanks."
"Oh, Nik," I nudged his elbow, "I like this one."
"Isn't she stunning?" Klaus spoke, watching the blonde's retreating figure.
"She certainly looks good walking away from you," Kol spoke amused, sharing a fist bump with me behind Nik's back.
Klaus put his drink back on the counter and ran after Caroline, but not before saying- "I'll take that as a challenge."
Inside the Grill, Kol and I watched the man in Elena's house and the girl with him play pool. For some reason, Kol was very intrigued by her and though I didn't care much about it, I was annoyed when he grabbed my hand and forced me to be beside him as he walked up to her.
"A woman of your caliber ought to choose more suitable company," Kol spoke with a teasing tone, "What's your name, love?"
With an apologetic face, I walked over to the woman's companion.
"I am sorry about that," I wince as I hear the woman say, "None of your business," back to Kol.
The man shrugged with a glare still pointed at the Mikaelson brother.
"I am Charlotte," I say, "And if I had any control over the situation, he wouldn't be doing that."
The man finally looked at me, the look in his face clearly showing that he knew who I was.
"You are Damon's girl," He spoke in an unsure tone before introducing himself, "I am Alaric Saltzman."
"Nice to meet you, Alaric," I smile, "And I haven't been Damon's girl since the 1950s."
He nodded, "I am sorry then."
"No problem."
The man had this look in his face, something that didn't sit right by me.
Then Kol walked towards Meredith and touched her face making me want to slap another Mikaelson. Thankfully, the woman does what I wanted to as Alaric and I walked up from behind them.
"I'm pretty sure she told you to get lost," Alaric growled as I found my way across to the woman. She shouldn't get mixed up in this cross-fire, and considering Alaric seemed to know what he was doing, maybe I could guard her.
"I'm pretty sure I don't care," Kol smirked as I hissed his name.
I stood right in front of the woman, hoping that Kol wouldn't do something as drastic as rip her throat open when I felt pain. I turned my head, my body feeling woozy all of sudden. It was a sensation I was well aware of- vervain.
"My name is Meredith," The woman looked at me with apologetic eyes, "And I am so sorry for this."
Then everything went dark.
