A rant is incoming!

Okay, first of all. The Isabella Swan hate, I GET IT. I have been there too, okay? But I'm old enough to understand and know that she doesn't deserve the hate she gets from the Twilight fandom. It has come to the point that the hate is getting WAY too much.

I did some Bella hate on some of my fics, but it wasn't that much (it's not hate-hate) like it was pointing out the flaws. (The mormon beliefs insert.)

If you want to try something new or add something new, darling, this is not it.

You're hating on a socially awkward teenager who wants to be a vampire, be fr; if you were in the Twilight universe at that age, you would have wanted to become a vampire too, even if it meant trying to manipulate a century-old vampire.

Edward is like a century old. Weird, a stalker, possessive, rude, broody, a conservative catholic, manipulative, even in some ways. Edward watches her sleep like a creep, but no one hates him for it because he's portrayed by Robert Pattinson, but hate on a normal seventeen-year-old teenager who literally did nothing? Like what? Like a regular teenager, Bella was curious and thought she knew what she wanted.

We all have to remember that she was 17-18 when this was happening. I did not know the shit I have to do when I was at this age I felt like I was still 15. Very CLUELESS.

All fictional characters have flaws, okay. I'm not dismissing that; just like real-life humans, they have flaws, too. So Bella has her flaws, too.

The most unbelievable thing in this is making Bella a bitch in fanfic to boost your OC. Look, to make an interesting story, you don't have to make a canonically sweet or awkward canon character to be a rude ass bitch. You're better than that. You don't have to pit women against each other to see who fits your chosen love interest in the story better.

This is like Lily with Jegulus. Or Marlene when it comes to Wolfstar. Lily is a fucking baby carrier for Jegulus to have kids. PUT SOME RESPECT. Lily deserves more than that, and no, Marlene is not a whore, so Sirius is allowed to sleep with many girls and gets to boast about it, but Marlene isn't allowed to sleep with anyone?

If your ship is M/F, don't make the women inferior to the men. It's misogyny at this point.

No, they are not "in the way" of the relationship of your OC and Canon Character (who they are canonically with). Just say it's a self-insert or y/n story, so it's at least explainable why a Canon Female Character is so OOC (who is canonically a sweetheart turned into a b*tch). At least write the story explaining why they are like that so it makes sense not just jump into that characteristic.

No, Bella would not say, "Get out of the way, you filthy ass bitch!" to an OC because CANON Bella would rather be buried in a grave alive than say that.

BELLA SWAN IS NOT CONFRONTATIONAL, OKAY?!?

Teenagers or 10-year-olds mostly read fanfiction. You must set a good example of good friendships, especially regarding women's friendships because it'll be their standards.

Young people don't know how to separate fiction from reality, so whatever they read online, they'll either imitate it or do it in real life.

Write complex characters. Write characters that make sense, even if it's fanfiction. If you want to change their personality, write it in the way of progress and that it makes sense as the story goes on and not just it only appeared out of nowhere.

But this OOC Bitch/Rude Bella Swan is a different kind of characterization that I could not get past. IT'S LIKE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CHARACTER it's beyond fanon characterization at this point.

No, Bella would not slap your OC. She would rather die of embarrassment than do any acts of violence.

How you write your characters is a reflection of yourself! Because they are a part of you, they came from your mind, and IDK how to further explain it anymore. How you portray your characters and treat other characters in the story WITHOUT character development is your inner consciousness.

That is what it means to be a writer whose work is read by a public audience. Setting an example.

UNLESS you wrote them that way.

Like what Donna Tartt wrote in her book The Secret History, the Greek Class, you were meant to hate Henry Winter, Charles & Camilla Macaulay, Edmun Carcan, and Francis Abernathy. Richard Papen glorified them, the Greek Class. Every single character was snobby, elitist, classist, and incredibly pretentious. They were not meant to be loved. They represent the problems in society and to criticize them. That's what I love about The Secret History.

This also applies to fanfiction because it is still a form of literature.

Make complex characters. Make them interesting without making the CANON characters act like completely different people. Or better yet, if you want a villain, just create another character that would make your OC's life a living hell whose main purpose is to be hated by the audience.

Do not destroy a CANONICALLY sweetheart character by making them look bad for your OC's gain. Make your OC seem the "better" option for your OC's love interest.

This isn't only Bella. It's with Alice and Rosalie, too, when it comes to Jasper Hale & Emmett Cullen fan fiction. Alice is literally so sweet and welcoming, and to make her a bitch is literally a crime against humanity.

And don't you dare use Rosalie's human past to make it seem like she's a "dirty" character, literally a huge FUCK YOU. Shame on you. Rosalie might be a bitch to Bella, but her feelings are valid. Bella might be willing to throw her human life for a man, but Rosalie is such a boss that she would not make such impulsive decisions like that.

The Twilight Canon characters are so interesting that you don't need to change them but add something more to their hobbies/interests, like headcanons.
