𝐯. The Swan Sister OC Variant

Before I start this, let me just make it clear that I am not targeting any fics with a Swan OC, okay? This is just what I observed in the Twilight fanfiction for a while.

I have read good fan fiction with a great depiction of a Swan OC. For example, Once in a Blue Moon by -lunatichale  is just a chef's kiss.

Okay, the Swan sister OC is usually the OC that helps you start with a Twilight fic. She's your beginner OC, and understandably, you want to make her BUILT DIFFERENT. Sometimes, in like a beginner fanfic for Twilight, she's usually just a writer insert😭 But no shame in that, we've all been there (not really; I didn't make a Swan OC. Genevieve Stone is actually my first OC)

The Swan OC is where you will build up and explore what the Twilight fanfic fandom is all about and how you will find your footing in the fanfiction world, and that's okay. Usually, the Swan OC ends up in your drafts, dusting but never forgotten, and then you end up creating a new OC that is really their person with their backstory and not a self-insert. SLAY!

The Swan OC is the safest option when it comes to a twilight fic for beginners. Because her background is already established. But I'm going to list the Swan OC variants that I have observed in my years of being in the Twilight Fanfiction Fandom.

1. She's famous and extroverted and speaks her mind. The Swan sibling is the complete opposite of Bella and makes the right decisions even for her young age. The fic writer made her smart so that she could predict everything that was happening around her. It always states how different she is from her sister because she's loud and energetic. She's not Bella, okay! She's best friends with Jessica, she's either a cheerleader or the Fork's IT girl (or both), and her favorite parent is Charlie. She hates Renee.

2. The badass Swan sibling who's sarcastic and hates Bella's guts and her weird vampire boyfriend, but they fall in love with one of the Cullens and makes it their life mission to torment Bella's existence ( it may or may not be a self-insert fic of the author to vent out of they hate Bella Swan )

3. She is the carbon copy of Bella Swan, but their main difference is she's less awkward, and she's friends with the shapeshifters at the Rez because she's cool like that.

4. The Swan OC sibling has a POC face claim, but their parents are still Charlie and Renee, who are WHITE. How is that possible that two caucasian parents spawned an Asian child, and it is in no way stated that they are adopted?
PICK THE RIGHT ETHNICITY FOR YOUR FACE CLAIMS Y'ALL.

Diversity is key. I know new Twilight fanfic writers use the Swan sibling to be on the safe side and are still grasping the whole concept of Twilight, but believe me when I say that Twilight is the easiest fandom you can write fanfiction for.

TVD is difficult because of so many supernatural species and so many occurring events that also have dozens of possibilities for what you want to change in the show. It can tend to be overwhelming.

Harry Potter is a HUGE fandom that doesn't know the difference between fanon and canon anymore because it's a huge world. Also, people in the fandom hate each other just because they don't agree with each other's HCs

Criminal Minds. Let's not talk about that because that fandom made me feel like I know nothing at all. I feel so stupid while writing my own drafted fic.

Teen Wolf. Again, so many supernatural species, and so many things are happening.

PJO, you need to be at least knowledgeable of Greek mythology to make metaphors or in order for your fic to make sense because your character will either be a child of the gods, well, yeah, or another kind of protector.

Basically, what I'm saying is that a Twilight fic is literally a blank canvas. You don't have to recreate what already happened. You have that kind of creative liberty to literally make up what you want to happen. The possibilities are endless when it comes to a Twilight fic because when you want to follow the plot, you wouldn't even mess anything up just by adding another character with a different story. It just makes it more interesting.

Twilight only rotates on Bella Swan's life and two supernatural species that make the story easy to write because you can add and like literally tweak everything. Vampires and shifters, and well, okay, three, Resume being a hybrid. Thus, opening a dozen possibilities for other characters in the story and literally just the setting could exist in different timelines and different places, it still wouldn't affect Bella's plot.

Make an OC that lived through WW2 and got turned into a vampire by Carlisle because she got shot, and it still wouldn't affect Bella and Edward's romance plot.

Or, make an OC that a Twilight character met in New Moon when the Cullens left Forks, and they fell deeply in love with the Twilight Character for six months, and it literally wouldn't have changed anything because Bella is in Forks in her depression breakup era.

We love a Swan OC variant when she really is DIFFERENT from the sea of Swan Oc's. But that's just my opinion. I love y'all. Did I forget any Swan OC variant? List them in the comments. It's been a while since I read a Twilight fic. I would love to know the different variants that have been created recently.
