𝐢𝐢𝐢. Jasper Hale during the Southern Vampire Wars

Let's talk about the Southern Vampire Wars which are the marked and most notable history for Vampires, especially to the Volturi so you know when the Volturi are involved, it's SERIOUS because it is, it's filled with violence, bloodshed, carnage, and death that humans according to the Twilight Illustrated Guide suspected the supernatural because of the death toll that the covens in the South has been causing until the Volturi cleaned under the rug that after the epidemic cholera it removed all suspicions of the supernatural.

The Southern Vampire Wars is COMPLEX because it's basically war but a hundred times more violent and bloody (because of vampires, duh). With the deaths multiplied to almost a million, I can assume the estimation of how much death and loss it caused since it's been going on since the beginning of the 19th century, and as we know, Peter mentioned in Twilight that Maria is still fighting for territories so it's been happening for a LONG time.

Every war crime has been committed. Human laws are disregarded because it's war. The only thing that mattered most was WINNING & TERRITORIES, and that's it. Vampires are territorial and egotistical creatures. It's in their blood CANONICALLY, so they don't think about the consequences or what happens in the aftermath of everything. That's why Maria's mate was killed, in my opinion, because they always have the mindset that they'll always win no matter what, but if they lose (which, again, they don't have that mindset), death is the only way they'll lose.

Power.

Glory.

Wealth.

Those three can either bring a coven to their desired empire or be their greatest downfall because many envy it.

What is the Southern Vampire Wars anyway? This is the excerpt of the explanation of what it is from the Twilight Illustrated Guide:

"One notable event during the modern rule of the Volturi was the war that engulfed most of the southern part of North America during the early 1800s. Precipitated by a vampire known as Benito, the conflict began when Benito created a small army of newborns in order to conquer the older covens that controlled the majority of what is now Mexico and Texas. His tactic was so successful that most covens in the area created their own armies of newborns to defend against him and the other covens that were also reacting. The resulting disappearance and death toll were so alarming to the humans in the area that supernatural causes were suspected and reported (though the epidemic was later blamed on cholera). The Volturi eventually descended in force on the area and exterminated every coven that had experimented in creating newborn armies."

So that's why I can assume the estimation of the death toll is a million since it's both vampires and humans who are getting killed. Innocent humans that became their blood bags or newborns to be pawned off for the coven leaders that wanted to conquer enemy territories, for example: Jasper, Charlotte, and Peter. Vampires getting killed by another enemy coven, then the humans that turned into newborn vampires.

This is one of the MOST remembered history because of how much it placed a mark on the vampire community because of its bloodshed, violence, and gore.

It's very complex because, again, it's war, but this time for vampires. I read a lot of different takes on what happened during the Southern Vampire Wars was one of them was Maria sexually harassed Jasper or "awards" him when he won a battle. Which I can't even talk about that now that I think about it because of how sensitive of a take that was with the war, but it's quite realistic in a sense, but that take can be against Wattpad regulations now, so I can't talk about it, but that was one of the takes.

Another is that Jasper destroys human villages, again, realistic because it's war, you know, white people and their incessant need to claim a land that isn't theirs, but strategy-wise, it isn't because they need those towns alive to create MONEY of course in order to have a thriving conquered land they need it to be active when it comes to business that's just a whole new strategy for colonizers is to make the land theirs and make money off of it. Also, because in every vampire book, vampires are known to be greedy and intelligent creatures.

OKAY, I'M GETTING OFF TRACK.

This chapter is focused on Jasper's time in the Southern Vampire Wars.

We all know how it traumatized Jasper was with this part of his vampire life. Because of so many deaths and losses that, he can FEEL I'd be depressed AF too. I'll be numb at that point. He was in the Mexican Coven for seventy-seven years, give or take. His job consists of training, strategizing for battle, eliminating enemy covens, disposing of newborns with no value to them anymore, and keeping Maria happy.

That is such a draining job I'd rather die.

This is the part of Jasper's history that he feels remorse for. He admitted that, but not the guilt from his human life that he was in the Confederacy—yikes.

Okay, Mystic, when they turn into vampires, the venom removes their memoriesI DONT CARE. Smeyer had no reason to make Jasper a Confederate soldier. As I said in the previous opinion.

Jasper's time in the Southern Vampire Wars was interesting enough as his backstory!

You can read in the third book, eclipse, of what Jasper told Bella about what his life was like when he was a second-in-command in Maria's coven. It's just so violent, hence, his BATTLE SCARS. Which as we all know, he obtained during battle, and newborns bit him in his arms and neck as a result of, you know, trying to kill him and stuff, and the venom is the only thing that could damage or leave a scar on their perfect indestructible bodies.

You know I'm going to talk about this. It's a famous take on every Jasper Hale fic.

His alter-ego.

The Major.

The dark, mysterious, commanding, intimidating, and numb side of Jasper when he was in the South that helped him go through all of the shit is because of the Major.

In every fanfic, you'll know that the Major appears when his eyes turn pitch black, his face morphs into something commanding, and his voice gets alarmingly calm yet full.

I did that with Redamancy. I find it cringe now on how I wrote it, LOL.

But I love the Major. He's a "touch her, you'll die" trope.

Jasper gained his alter-ego, the Major, when he was in the South. As you know, Jasper is depressed, and an alter-ego is someone who takes over your mind as a defense mechanism. It's a hidden personality that the person doesn't even know that they have unless it's triggered (that's my only explanation on why the fandom invented the Major), so the Major took over Jasper and did all the violent stuff that Jasper couldn't do so like basically Jasper blacks out and lets the Major handle everything and comes back when it's all over. So you can say that the Major is the dominant side of Jasper, who lived throughout the Southern Vampire Wars and created a name for himself.

The Major shows when Jasper gets triggered (defense mechanism); it's rare sometimes because Jasper rarely gets triggered because of his background training or when his OC love interest gets harmed, and as we all know, the Major is very fond of his mate.

Jasper also has a title, The God of War. RAHHH, he is so hot.

Which is a well-known name in the vampire community. When they hear of the God of War, they RUN because of Jasper's reputation. In fanfics, Jasper either hates that title, or he is proud of it. Hates it because of the reason behind that title (death and violence) and is proud of it because he can make enemies quiver before him.

Jasper has been bestowed the title God of War not only because of his military background and strategic battle plans but also because he won every battle that he and Maria initiated in the Southern Vampire Wars.

Jasper Whitlock has the skill and is bloody intelligent. He was ruthless, tactful, had no regard for human life, doesn't give a flipping fuck about anything except winning a battle and conquering enemy territories. Because war is everything that he knew until Peter came into his life and pulled him out of that hole.

These are the basics of what you will see in a Jasper Hale fanfic if it touches on the Southern Vampire Wars or starts in that era.

I know it has many explanation holes since I don't really have a directed topic to talk about it. Since I already talked about Maria in the previous opinion. But if y'all need a more specific event in FANON or even CANON, to be honest, there's not much info about this in CANON, only about the that a vampire Benito started all of this and other covens followed because they wanted what Benito had.

A lot of the creative liberties were made of Jasper's time in the South and were created in FANON, so if you want me to discuss what happened in TSW (it's a long type), let me know, and I'll give my take on it.
