Fairy lights hung on the walls of the student lounge like glowing vines, painting the place a soft shade of gold. Heart-shaped balloons floated near the ceiling, swaying slightly as warm wind blew from the heater.
You stretched your arms above your head, struggling to pin the last piece of the Valentine's Day banner onto the wall. The tape wasn't cooperating, and for the tenth time, you cursed whoever decided that the banner had to be put up this high.
Heeseung showed up at the student council room and the moment he spotted you in your cupid outfit, his lips twitched into that annoying smirk.
"They say love is blind," he muses, his gaze trailing over your fluffy wings and pink satin dress, "but it's hard to miss when you're literally dressed like it."
You groan. "Lee Heeseung."
He just laughs, ruffling your hair in the most annoying but fond way. "Need some help, Cupid?" his teasing voice came from behind.
You turned slightly, still standing on your tiptoes. "No, I-"
Before you could finish, a pair of warm hands covered yours, effortlessly pressing the banner into place. Heeseung was standing behind you.
Close. Too close.
His fingers curled over yours, steadying them as he secured the tape. You could feel his breath against your ear, steady and warm.
"Are all Cupids this clumsy, or is it just you?" he murmured.
You scoffed, attempting to ignore the way your heart had begun to hammer wildly against your ribs. "I'd like to see you do better."
"I just did," he pointed out smugly.
You whipped around to glare at him only to find him with his usual, mischievous grin with the kind of gaze that made it impossible to look away.
The twinkling fairy lights reflected in his dark eyes and for a second, you swore you saw him glowing. Not metaphorically, but actually glowing. It was light, golden, and...
"Staring is rude, you know," Heeseung said, tilting his head slightly, pulling you out of your thoughts. "I know I'm pretty, but still."
You huffed, turning back to check the banner. Now that it was finally in place, you stepped off the chair and took a look around. The place was finally coming together, with the fairy lights reflected in the glossy red and pink balloons, giving the room an almost dreamy feeling.
It was romantic, in a way that made your stomach twist in anticipation for the next day.
Valentine's Day.
You glanced at Heeseung. He was now standing by the table, looking at the variety of heart-shaped confetti and love letters scattered across the surface.
"You're not seriously looking forward to tomorrow, are you?" you teased, leaning beside him against the table.
Heeseung looked up, grinning. "What? Cupid's biggest day of the year? Of course, I am."
You rolled your eyes. "You don't even believe in love."
He tilted his head. "I never said that."
You raised an eyebrow. "You literally said last week that love is just 'carefully orchestrated chaos'."
"That doesn't mean I don't believe in it." He leaned in slightly. "It just means I know how it works."
Something in the way he said it sent shivers down your spine. Before you could question him further, he straightened up and grabbed a handful of the paper love letters. "Speaking of orchestrating chaos, we still have deliveries to make."
You groaned, remembering your assignment. "Right. The library."
The place was silent except for the rustling sound of pages being flipped, and the weight of all those curious eyes made you feel out of place in your bright pink costume.
The two of you had been assigned to deliver love letters to students studying in the library. It was supposed to be simple. Slip the envelopes onto desks, smile sweetly, and move on. But you should have known that anything involving Heeseung would be nowhere near simple.
Which is how you found yourself hiding behind a bookshelf, squished way too close to the campus' most infamous flirt.
"You're blushing," Heeseung whispered, his face inches away from yours.
"I'm not," you shot back.
He chuckled, low and knowing. "You're a terrible liar."
You bit your lip, stubbornly avoiding his gaze. "We're supposed to be delivering letters, not whispering behind shelves like middle schoolers."
"Excuse me for not wanting to interrupt a lecture," he said, lifting a brow. "Unless you'd rather walk right up and hand someone a bright pink envelope while their professor talks about quantum physics?"
You rolled your eyes, nudging him aside so you could peek around the bookshelf. The coast was clear.
"This is the last one," you murmured, slipping a letter onto the nearest desk before grabbing Heeseung's wrist and dragging him toward the exit.
Later that night, back in the student lounge, you were tying a ribbon on a balloon when you felt Heeseung's presence behind you. Again. And he was close enough that you could feel the warmth of his body.
"You're really not making it easy to resist you," he muttered.
Your fingers froze. Slowly, you turned your head, only to find him leaning in, your noses almost touching. His gaze flickered to your lips, and for a split second, you thought...
But then he pulled away, his smirk returning like nothing had happened. "Don't look so disappointed, Cupid."
You scowled. "I wasn't-"
He reached out, tucking a stray strand of hair behind your ear before stepping back completely. "See you tomorrow."
