Epilogue | Love Like Theirs

5 Second Of Summer*

"I never apologized," I tell the lady who sits beside me. The warm summer air surrounds us.

Life has been a dream. I've never been so happy and at peace. I was married to the love of my life. I've never loved anyone as much as I love Jisung. You should never depend on someone else to make you happy, but I did. I will fully admit to anyone that I was happy because of him. He was the center of my world and I will never hesitate to tell someone that.

"Apologize for what dear?" Jisung's mom grew confused.

My eyes shifted to the two guys that hovered over the grill. I swallow harshly "If I would've known—"

"That is nothing to apologize for" I look towards her and she gives me a reassuring smile "You had no idea Jae and Jisung were brothers, I don't hold it against you and they don't either"

"I shot and stabbed him," I tell her.

She shrugs "Boy deserved it"

"Did not" Jae looked toward us and his eyes met mine "Maybe a little"

"You're lucky that's all he did" Jisung walks to me and sits beside me, hand immediately going to my leg.

I never thought this would be my life. I mean, to be honest, I would've never thought I would be hanging around my two exes, one of whom is now my husband and the other happened to be his brother, and to top all that off their mom who we thought died.

It wasn't weird though. Two years did that to us. There was no weird tension from the past, it was just carefree and comfortable. We laughed and joked like anyone would expect sometimes it would go as far as Jisung threatening to have me shoot Jae again, jokingly of course.

-

Two Months Later
I visited Jisung at work often. When he first opened the place up I thought it would be odd to see him surrounded by kids but it was far from that. He was a natural.

At first, I didn't want to bother him but I was curious. I've spent almost a year by his side while he planned and planned for this and I was excited for him.

We both worked so we didn't really have much time during the week to spend together, it became a thing for us to have dinner and talk about our day—even if it was as simple as what we had for lunch. It was good to have those moments with him and sometimes those conversations carried into the bedroom. Not sexually—well not always.

One night as we lay in bed, tangled up in the sheet he expressed to me how he liked it when I visited him at work. He had this look in his eyes that night. How he spoke about how he watched me with the kids and even how some of them asked for me. It warmed my heart so ever since that night I made sure I had time in my day to stop by.

"Look what I brought you" I kneel down to the little girl. Her big hazel eyes look up from the toys and she smiles widely at the flowers in my hands.

"You remembered"

"Of course I did" I smile at the brunette who I knew as Olivia.

"Get anything for me?" I look to the little boy, Oaklyn who sat in the chair and I'm assuming previously had his attention on the car's movie that played.

"Who do you think I am?" I try to sound offended "Your gift is in Jisung's office, he mentioned that you would be outside with the others"

"They were being mean," Olivia says and I furrow my brows. They were siblings, Olivia was four and Oaklyn was six. They were both in foster care and have yet to be put into a home, I guess people just didn't want to take them both. Jisung had asked around and supposedly couples were interested in taking Olivia multiple times but they didn't want to split them up.

"Olivia, shut up"

"Don't speak to your sister like that" I tell him and get up, Oaklyn huffs and crosses his arms, staring at the ground.

"She promised not to tell anyone" I knew in front of him.

A frown on my face "What happened?" He seemed hesitant "You know if you don't tell me I'll just go outside and interrogate everyone"

He looks up and I nod slowly, making him sigh lowly "Zander stole my favorite green car and hid it from me and I got so angry and I pushed him. He told on me and they called Lauren and she said I couldn't go play outside"

Lauren, she worked at the foster care and was the one who brought the kids here and picked them up after. I was acquainted with her and very aware of her small crush on my husband.

"Did she now?" I mutter mostly to myself but Oaklyn hears and nods.

"She's so mean"

I give him a tight-lipped smile "Look, you didn't hear it from me but if I were you, I would've pushed Zander as well"

He chuckles and I smile at the way his mood changes. Zander wasn't exactly in foster care, he was Lauren's nephew and she took him in a few years ago but with work, she couldn't look after him when he got off school. She left him here until she had to pick the others up so lucky for her it worked out perfectly.

"What is going on here?" I stand up and look to my husband who finally left his office from taking calls.

"Zander was being mean" Olivia blurts out as she plays with her Barbie.

"Olivia!" Oaklyn whines and pouts.

Jisung looks at the boy and back to me, I nod slowly, "I will talk with Lauren"

I furrow my brows "You don't seem surprised"

Jisung shrugs "Not the first complaint"

"I was told I had a present?" Oaklyn gets up excitedly. I often brought the kids gifts, it really made me happy to see how thankful they were. It was Oaklyn's birthday last week but I couldn't make his small celebration that was held here.

Jisung motions towards his office "It's in my office, want to come to open it?"

The boy's eyes widen "No way!" He smiles "You said nobody is allowed in there"

"I want to go!" Olivia gets up as well and Jisung and I laugh.

"Only this once but it's our secret"

"I can keep a secret but Olivia can't," He tells us.

"Hey!" Olivia grew offended "I told them because I knew they would protect us!"

Her words cut deep into my chest. She knew we would protect them. That made me want to bawl my eyes out because she didn't know how much that meant to me. She felt safe with us.

We follow Jisung to his office and he grabs the green-wrapped gift. Oaklyn laughs excitedly as he grabs the gift, I stand beside Jisung.

Olivia stood close by us as we watch the boy open the gift before letting out a small gasp, "A freaking remote control car" He slaps his hand over his mouth and looks at Jisung with guilty eyes "I didn't mean to say that"

Jisung laughs "It shows that you like it"

Oaklyn nods vigorously and looks down at it again "I love it!" He gets up and immediately he clings to my lower body. His small arms wrapped around me and his head in my stomach "Thank you so much"

I was tense for a second before melting into his hold. Nuzzling his head "I'm glad you love it"

I felt a tight hold on my leg and I looked down to see Olivia clinging to it. My eyes go to Jisung and his snap to me. I swallow harshly as he stares at me with so much love.

"I love you" He mouths and if I wasn't already on the verge of tears this would've done it for me.

-

A Year Later
Jisung's mouth on mine was eager along with his hands on my body. He touched me everywhere, just wanting to feel me.

I pull away "Fuck" I curse, feeling Jisung hard on grind onto me. "We need to stop"

Jisung kisses my jaw "I know" he mumbled against my skin, "I want you so bad right now"

I wanted that too but we really couldn't right now because any minute now—"Dad, Papa!" Jisung's kisses halt and I chuckle.

"That was a lot quicker than I'd hoped" Jisung pulls away.

I give him a quick kiss "This weekend they going to Felix's for a sleepover"

Jisung bites his bottom lip "A weekend to ourselves?" I nod "Sounds lovely"

I walk away and Jisungs hand makes contact with my ass "Jisung!"

"Papa, guess what?" Oaklyn runs to us happily and ready to share some news with Jisung.

Last year we made the big decision to adopt Oaklyn and Olivia. Adopting had popped into our conversations before but we both were so busy and didn't think we had the time to give to a kid.

I spent so much time with Oaklyn and Olivia specifically when I went to visit Jisung. I had spent time with all of the kids but they allowed themselves to build such a bond with the both of us. Adopting them just felt right. We didn't hesitate to decide because in our hearts we already knew, those were our kids. They were what we needed to make our house feel like a home and the day that we had asked them if this was something they wanted—that day I will never forget.

After we officially adopted them, Jisung and I spent a lot of our nights looking into their background, and tragedy was the least I could say.

Their parents were addicts and two months after Olivia was born their mom had overdosed and for the next few months their dad tried to take care of them but ultimately couldn't and gave them up, he died a year later. From what we knew, he tried and that's enough for me to know that I would never keep this from them. When they got older, if they wanted to know who their biological parents were, I would tell them.

So, in the meantime, we focused on the background of their culture. Their Parents were both Mexican so instead of letting them lose that part of themselves, we thought we would help them stay connected to that part and also learn along the way.

It was a big deal when they called me dad but the look on Jisung's face when they started calling him 'Papa' was the most beautiful sight.

"My teacher said that there was this new car movie in theaters, we need to go see it!!" Oaklyn told Jisung who quickly agreed as they both walked to the kitchen.

I walk to Devany who drops their backpacks onto the couch, "Thank you"

Dev shakes her head "No worries, I'm always happy to help"

Devany and her mom were well, we often invited them for dinner, and as of this year her mom was in a relationship and this time was Dev approved. He was a good guy from what I've heard. Jisung seemed to grow really close to the two as he took it upon himself to Internet stalk the man, let's just say, he looked nice.

"Dad, I was wondering..." Olivia flashed me her hazel eyes too me and I already knew she wanted something.

"What now Liv?"

She smiles "Can I go to Avery's?"

I grab their bags and shake my head "You're sleeping at her house this weekend hun" I walk upstairs and she follows me.

"Yeah but that's not for a long time"

I smile and shake my head "That's in two days" I tell her as we walk into her room, immediately as I attacked with the color pink.

"Two days too long"

I put her bag down and look at her "No means no Liv" Olivia pouts, "Pout and no ice cream after dinner"

Her eyes widen "Okay I'm sorry" She tells me "I'll be good"

I walk out of the room and to the room next to hers, this time getting attacked with green. Olivia no longer followed me as I heard her small steps go downstairs.

I put Oaklyn's bag down and looked towards the clothes on the floor. I sigh and pick them up, going to his closet and tossing them in the hamper.

I heard another pair of small steps and I looked towards the door where Oaklyn walked in, "Hey bud, how was school?"

"Good" He grabs his back and digs through it "I made this" I walk to him and grab the colored paper he pulls out and hands me. I look down at the drawing "The art teacher said to draw something were thankful for"

My vision blurs as I look down at the poorly drawn stick figures, His small hand go over to them, "This is Me, Liv, Papa, and you" He tells me, "Oh, and the cats but I couldn't forget my all my cars"

I smile and pull him into a hug which he quickly returns. "This is going on the fridge" I pull away and give him a small smile.

"Put it next to the picture I have with Papa when we went to Disney"

I nod "Will do"

I loved this life. I only ever wanted this and them. I don't know what I did to deserve such amazing kids and husband but I did something right.

-
[Oaklyn is now 17, Olivia is 15, and Avery is Felix and Changbin's daughter who is 16]

Twelve Years Later (Oaklyn's POV)
Summer was my favorite time of the year. I could spend a lot of time with my family and the best being no school. I wasn't popular and honestly, I don't mind it. It seemed tiring to have people's attention all the time so I'm fine without the popularity.

She was popular though. Avery. She and Liv have been friends for so long even though my sister was younger she didn't treat her that way.

When my sister started high school she was quick to take her under her wing because at the end of the day, they were best friends and so that meant Olivia  became just as popular.

"Oaklyn, don't!" Olivia yelled as I ran and jumped into the pool, sending the water to splash all over her and Avery.

The sounds muffle before I go back to the surface to see a pissed-off Olivia "I'm telling Dad" She threatens.

"Then I'll tell Papa that you have a crush on Marcus"

"You wouldn't" She glared.

"Then we tell Uncle Minho that Oaklyn kissed Indy at the end of the year party" Avery looks at me. Her green eyes are on me as I pull myself out of the pool. Her dirty blonde hair still wet from her swim.

"Please, they would be more excited than mad" Olivia rolls her eyes.

"Exactly" Avery says.

I furrow my brows "That plan sounds horrible"

"Indy's mom is good friends with your dad and so they will absolutely love this and would constantly hound Oaklyn to date her"

My eyes widen "No" I tell her, "I don't even like her like that, it was a small kiss"

"Was it though?" Something laced in her voice.

My jaw clenched, Avery and I's relationship was... complicated. We used to be just as close as her and Olivia but we grew up.

Long story short I've liked her for years now and we might have kissed once last year and both of us freaked after. Completely tried avoiding the other but that was hard when our parents were close and she was my sister's best friend. No, we haven't talked about it after so long and just forgot about it. Or at least I tried to.

I didn't tell anyone and I assume she did the same because it was never brought up. I knew how Uncle Changbin would react, she was his princess, and was extremely protective of her. I was terrified.

"Yup, just a kiss" I look away and towards the patio. A small smile found my face when I saw Dad and Papa laughing together.

I want to find love like theirs. Growing up they talked about their relationship and how they always found their way back to each other.

I've had my fair share of arguments with them growing up, I'm a hormonal teenage boy. I regret a lot of them because they were my doing and I always ended up apologizing because I knew how much they loved me.

Days like today made me truly thankful for them both. For giving me and Olivia this life. They constantly reminded me that my past didn't make me who I was. I wasn't this broken little boy who watched his mom die at a young age and was soon abandoned by his dad. That wasn't me, it was only my story.

And their story, I knew was one I would continue to love to hear about because through all the pain and tears, it brought them here. Surrounded by family and friends that all had smiles on their faces.

They protected us and I will always protect my dad and Papa. Always.
