DEAD MAN!
CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR.
please find my sister.
▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄
ADRIAN MARTIN YAWNED AS HE WOKE UP IN THE HOSPITAL BED HE HAD BEEN IN FOR THE WHOLE WEEKEND, STRETCHING AS HE HEARD A CHUCKLE COME THROUGH. Peeking one eye open, he saw Stiles Stilinski step into the room; a bag of food in his hands. "Enjoy your cat nap while I was gone?"
"Yep." The Martin dragged out, stretching his limbs before releasing a sigh and opening his eyes. He reached out towards the bag his boyfriend had, making a grabby hand motion. "Gimme, gimme."
Stiles rolled his eyes as he handed the bag over, watching the redhead launch into it like an animal. His own food was thrown over to him, the two boys happily tucking in. "Lydia's awake, by the way. I checked before I came in." Stiles' voice was muffled from the stuffed food, his boyfriend hearing him nonetheless.
Adrian's head lifted up, a piece of lettuce from his burger falling out his mouth as he spoke. "What? Is she okay? How's her bite?" He asked urgently, clutching his food tighter.
To say the boy was distressed would be an understatement. Adrian Martin hadn't been able to leave his hospital bed despite feeling better. His mum and dad were yet to come and sign him out, meaning he was confined in the boring room he was given. All he wanted was to know his sister was in good health.
"She's awake at least." Stiles shrugged, scratching the back of his neck as a sign of nervous hesitance. He sighed. "Scott and I checked her bite when you were unconscious, it hasn't healed."
"Like me." Adrian stated, his face becoming confused. "So, Lydia's a Necromancer too?"
Stiles shrugged. "I don't know. She seems fine. Necromancy may be a thing passed down from families, but it's rare." He explained. "Lydia could be something else."
"Either that or she's immune to the bite." The redhead hopefully suggested, trying to stay in high spirits for his sister. "Maybe it's different for females."
"Yeah, maybe." Stiles nodded, looking unconvinced as he looked down at his food. He then had the sudden urge to change the subject. "We need snacks. I'm going to the vending machine, you want anything?"
"I'd kill for some chocolate." Adrian groaned, shifting in his bed. Stiles looked at him confused, the redhead only shrugging. "I'm coming with you."
"But you should be resting." Stiles tried to reason, helping his boyfriend up nonetheless in case he hurt himself.
"I'm going to a vending machine." Adrian deadpanned, using Stiles' hand to support himself. "It's not like I'm marching out of here."
"Fine. Just- stay close to me." The Stilinski boy walked towards the door in defeat, giving the boy a stern look. "Don't go fainting on me again."
Adrian saluted. "Aye-aye, captain." The comment received a roll of the eyes before they set off into the hospital hallway.
When they stopped at the vending machine, Stiles yawned as he reached into the pocket of his jean trousers for some change. After digging out a decent amount of change, he inserted it into the machine and started to type the number he wanted. He expectantly turned to his boyfriend. "What do you want?"
"M&M's please." Adrian put on his best puppy dog eyes, batting his eyelashes as the boy opposite him chuckled and put it in.
Stiles' Reeces came first, beginning to come out only to get stuck at the very end. It was wedged so it was unable to come out, making the two boys groan. "Seriously? Come . . ." Stiles muttered, pressing a few buttons in hopes it would work.
When nothing happened, the boy hit the glass with his spare hand hoping they would be successful and it would fall out. Sadly, Nothing. Adrian tried punching a few more buttons while the boy did his thing, but nothing happened.
"Maybe you could get someone to . . ." Adrian trailed off, stopping when Stiles began to shake the vending machine. He wrapped his entire body round it; looking to be hugging it. "Umm . . . Stiles?"
The boy let out a few grunts, face squashed against the glass as he moved his body up and down. The more time passed, the more annoyed he got it seemed. Stiles gave one last powerful shove before it began to slowly fall over.
Adrian was hurriedly pulled back by his boyfriend, watching in horror as the glass shattered and sounded through the whole hospital. The two boys cringed, looking across the hospital in case anyone saw them. Thankfully, it didn't look like anyone was around.
Just as the Martin boy was about to release a sigh of relief, an ear piercing scream ripped through the air. Adrian's eyes widened, immediately recognising the scream of terror to be owned by none other than his own sister.
"Lydia!" Adrian yelled in panic as he scurried off to where he knew her room was due to constantly annoying the nurses for it, Stiles calling after him.
Adrian barged into the room, standing behind Melissa and his dad. Hurriedly, he almost ripped the shower curtains off as he swiped them back. The shower was empty, his sister nowhere in sight. No. he thought.
Melissa came forwards and turned off the water, a panicked and confused look on her face. It was clear she had no idea what had happened, meaning something was definitely wrong. Adrian's eyes began to water in fear. Where could she have gone? How did she get out?
As the ginger looked around, he got his answer. The room's window was wide open, big enough for a girl Lydia's size to fit through.
Please be alright. Adrian thought, staring out the window where a cold, dark night was lurking.
❚ ❚ ❚
"Naked? As in nude?" Sheriff Stilinski questioned as he talked to Melissa, Adrian and his dad right beside them.
"I'm pretty sure they mean the same thing, but, yes, as far as we know, she left here clothing-optional." Melissa explained as they walked through the hall, Mr Stilinski making notes as she spoke.
"All right, you checked the whole hospital, right?" The older man asked the nurse.
"Every last corner." The Martins nodded beside Melissa.
"Nothing suspicious?"
"Nothing." Adrian sighed, a defeated look on his face. He frowned. "She just took off."
Noah frowned, feeling bad for the kid. First he was admitted and unable to see his sister in good health and now she was missing. He really couldn't catch a break. "Alright, let's get an APB out on an sixteen-year-old redhead." Noah turned to the police officer behind him before looking to Adrian and his dad. "Any other descriptors?"
"She's 5'3, green eyes, fair skinned and actually prefers the term 'strawberry blonde' for her hair." Adrian recited, stepping closer to Stiles' dad.
Sheriff nodded, taking a note before looking up; his eyes casting past the boy to his son. "What the hell are you still doing here."
"Umm . . ." Stiles paused, his scanning over to his boyfriend, who wore a frown. Stiles had not told his dad yet of his sexuality- therefore he also didn't know about his relationship with the boy next to him. "Providing moral support?"
"Uh-huh. How about you provide your ass back home, where you should be?" Sheriff tiredly asked.
Stiles let out a shrug, nodding. "Okay, I can do that, too." His father pushed him towards the exit of the hospital.
Adrian sighed as he turned to his dad. "I think I'll go with him. Thanks for signing me out, Dad."
His father nodded, patting him on the shoulder. "We'll find her, son, she's out there somewhere."
The redhead put on a small smile for the sake of his father, stepping away slowly. "I know she is." He muttered under his breath.
The two teenagers walked past the vending machine, which two men were now using all their might to get back up. The couple adverted their eyes to anywhere but the machine, innocent looks on their faces as walked over to Stiles' jeep.
Scott was waiting in the passenger seat for them, watching as Stiles unzipped his bag and pulled out Lydia's bloodied night gown her brother had snatched up earlier. The werewolf smelled the article of clothing, trying to get a scent from the girl's blood.
"I heard her scream after she was taken. It came from that way." Adrian pointed to his right, his boyfriend nodding along with. Adrian sighed, his eyes peeling to Scott. "Please find my sister. I can't bear the thought of thinking what else might be out there- especially after Peter."
"I'm not gonna let anyone hurt her. Not again." Scott promised the boy, who nodded sadly.
Stiles got the engine working, hearing it roaring to life as the head lights switched on. The Stilinski boy let out a strangled noise when a figure appeared in front of the car, Adrian jumping too until he realised it was none other than Allison Argent. She wore a long winter coat with a beanie, her nose red from the cold air.
Scott looked more surprised than the couple did, his eyes wide as Allison moved over to the window of the jeep. "What are you doing here? Someone's gonna see us."
Apparently, while Adrian was still in hospital, Allison and Scott had started seeing each other again. During a heated makeout session between the two in the young Argent's car, her dad ripped the werewolf out and held him at gunpoint.
If Chris saw the couple together again then he promised he would kill Scott himself, despite the code hunters followed. Allison promised she would stay away . . . but that didn't last very long given their situation as you can tell.
"I don't care- she is my best friend, and we need to find her before they do."
Allison states determinedly. Adrian gulped. They do? He thought.
Scott leaned forwards, voice lowered just in case. "I can find her before the cops can."
"How about before my father does?" Allison questioned, the other couple's eyes widening.
"He knows?" Adrian and Stiles asked, the redhead of the pair getting a bad feeling in his stomach.
"Yeah." The tall brunette nodded, her eyebrows furrowed. "I just saw him and three other guys leave my house in two SUVs."
"Search party." Scott turned to the two teenage boys, disbelief all over his face.
"Search party? More like a hunting party." Adrian corrected with a scoff, feeling mad his sister's disappearance was slowly become one big supernatural mission.
Scott opened the door and told Allison to get in the back. The girl did as she was told, taking a seat beside Adrian. She gave him a small smile, which was weakly returned. All Adrian could think about was his sister, all alone in the cold night.
"Hey," Allison reached down to grasp the boy's hand in a comforting gesture. "We'll find her. Everything's going to be okay."
"I hope you're right." The redhead sighed, looking out of the window as Stiles pulled out of the car park and took off down the main road.
Darkness surrounded the four teens as Adrian anxiously turned to the hunter. "They won't k-kill her if she's turned right? Your dad and the rest of them?"
Allison hesitated, studying the broken look on boy's face before sighing. "I don't know. They won't tell me anything. All they say is 'we'll talk after Kate's funeral when the others get here'."
Stiles frowned, eyes trained on the dark road. "What others?"
The Argent shook her head, resting her head in the hand that was previously holding Adrian's. "I don't know, they won't tell me that, either."
"Does your family tell you anything?" Adrian asked as he let his head lay against the window.
"Yeah, sounds like your family has some serious communication issues to work on." The redhead heard his secret boyfriend mutter sarcastically.
Realising Scott had been silent the whole time, Adrian turned to the werewolf's direction to see his upper body stuck out of the car like a dog. He sniffed the air, his best friend looking to him for help. "Scott, are we going the right way?"
The tanned boy cocked his head, taking another big sniff before yelling. "Take the next right!"
❚ ❚ ❚
Adrian was ahead of everyone as he jogged towards the Hale house, hearing the buzzing of insects around the woods. Stiles tried to call him back next to Scott and Allison, but deep down he knew it was hopeless.
"Are you sure she came up here?" Adrian questioned the werewolf, zipping up his jacket more due to the nipping cold.
Scott nodded. "Yeah, this is where the scent leads." He sounded so sure of his senses, meaning Adrian had to trust him.
Stiles sighed, looking between his boyfriend and Allison. "Has Lydia ever come here before?"
"Not with me." The Argent shook her head, Adrian agreeing with her; proving the Martin had never been around these parts. "Maybe she came here on instinct, like she was looking for Derek."
The words were directed towards her boyfriend, but the two teen boys still heard as Scott paused. "You mean . . . looking for an alpha."
"Wolves need a pack, right?" Allison spoke louder.
The Latino boy thought to himself for a few seconds. "Not all of them." He shrugged.
"But would she have been drawn to an alpha? Is it an instinct to be part of a pack?" The Argent pressed on.
The boy nodded. "Yeah, yeah- we're stronger in packs." He stated.
"Like strength in numbers."
"No, like-like, literally," Scott changed. "stronger, faster, better in every way."
"Is it the same for an alpha?" Adrian watched as his boyfriend bend down to inspect something on the ground.
"Oh, hey, look at this." Adrian whacked him on the shoulder when he went to tug it, his fingers barley touching the wire strung from the bottom of a tree to another. "You see this?"
"It's looks like a tripwire." Adrian stated as Allison crouched down beside the buzzcut teen. Stiles lifted it up, a sudden noise startling Adrian behind him. Whirling round, his eyes trailed up to Scott McCall dangling from one of the trees. Adrian laughed. "Scott, you hanging in there okay?"
Scott glared. "Stiles?"
"Yeah buddy?" When him and Allison turned round, their eyes widened when they saw the boy hanging upside down. "Oh."
The werewolf kept his glare, trying to ignore the redhead chuckling in front of him. "Next time you see a tripwire . . . don't trip it."
Allison was trying her hardest not to laugh as Stiles nodded quickly, going to release the trap. "Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait." Scott quickly tried to stop them. "Someone's coming. Hide. Go!"
As soon as Allison's back was turned to the couple, Adrian grabbed ahold of Stiles' hand and pulled him where the tall brunette was hiding. They found a safe place in a bush just in time before footsteps approached the upside down teen with a loud sigh. "Scott?"
The three hidden teenagers' eyes widened at the voice of Chris Argent, Allison's Dad. "Mr Argent." They heard Scott address.
"How are you doing?"
"Good. You know, just hangin' out." Adrian and Stiles bit their lips and looked at each other, trying not to ruin their cover by snickering at the boy's lame attempt at a joke. "Is this one of yours? It's, uh, good. Nice design. Very constricting."
Chris Argent clearly wasn't one up for small talk today. "What are you doing out here, Scott?"
"Looking for my friend." Scott's voice softened, making Adrian crack a smile. He was glad the werewolf cared for Lydia . . . despite their little classroom makeout session.
The hunter tutted to the werewolf. "Ah, that's right. Lydia's in your group now, isn't she? Part of the clique? Is that the word you use? Or is there another way to put it? Part of your pack?"
It took a few beats of silence until the three hidden teenagers heard Scott reply. "Actually, clique sounds about right to me."
"I hope so." Chris thoughtfully responded. "Cause I know she's a friend of Allison's, and one special circumstance, such as yourself- one I can handle. Not two."
Scott whispered something the hidden teens couldn't hear. Stiles was the one to peek through the thick leaves after a waiting a bit longer, trying to get a good look. The young Argent followed suit.
Adrian thought about it for a moment, but decided it'd be better to play it safe just in case. He relied on Stiles' facial expressions instead, listening closely.
"Scott, do you know what a hemicorporectomy is?"
"I have a feeling I don't want to."
"A medical term for amputating somebody at the waist. Cutting them in half. Takes a tremendous amount of strength to cut through tissue and bone line that." Argent must've exampled the action. "Let's hope a demonstration never becomes necessary."
At the sound of footsteps, Adrian let out a breath he wasn't even aware he was holding. Scott breathed out a sigh of relief, letting the three know he was gone.
"You okay?" His girlfriend was first to speak, looking at him gently as they all tried to help him out of the trap.
Scott huffed. "It's just another life-threatening conversation with your dad."
Allison didn't reply. Instead, she went over the other tree the trap had been tried around. "Stiles, Adrian, help me with this."
While Adrian's boyfriend went to go help, the redhead looked at Scott with a smirk and wiggles his fingers. Scott seemed to share the same idea.
The werewolf swiped his claws at the trap, landing on the ground which made the two teens look back. Scott panted a little as he grinned, standing up. "Thanks, but I think I got it."
