It was quite early in the morning when Happy was woken up by some noises and was immediately alarmed. With a quick glance to the side, he was relieved to see that Debbie was still sleeping like a rock. Since the cabin only had two bedrooms and Avery slept in one of them, Debbie had to sleep with him.

The three year old had no problem with that. She got the affection that she didn't get from her mother but from Happy, who always allowed her to sleep in his bed when she had a bad dream or just didn't want to be alone.

More than once he had to listen to Kim tell him that he needed to stop pampering Debbie like that and every single fucking time Kim gave him this lecture he almost forgot that he had a woman standing in front of him and was often on the verge of throwing a punch, but he wasn't the type of man who would hit a woman. That was probably one of the last things he would ever do.

He would only cross this limit if he had a job to do for the club, but luckily that had never been the case before.

In his eyes, he wasn't even spoiling Debbie, he was just giving her what a child needed and what Kim wasn't capable of giving her. And it was obvious with whom the three year old felt more comfortable with.

After stretching his back, he ran a hand over his face before reaching for his shirt on the floor and pulling it over his head; he was already in his sweatpants though.

Happy quietly closed the door behind him, and on his way to the kitchen there was some more noise. When he reached the kitchen he found a cursing redhead whose clothes were covered in flour, dough and some other purple stuff. There was even flour in her hair.

"And what exactly are you doing?", he asked amused as he stepped closer to her, but his grin quickly faded when he realized what the redhead had done in the kitchen. Suddenly he felt a lump form in the back of his throat. "You did that for Debbie?"

No one had ever put so much work and sweat into a cake for Debbie except Gemma. And Avery didn't look like she was a professional when it came to baking according to the chaos, but she still made the effort for Debbie's birthday tomorrow.

And it wasn't just a simple cake, he could see how much work went into it and Debbie would probably freak out the moment she'd see it.

Suddenly he felt this strange, new feeling spreading through his body again, making his stomach flip while a warmth spread through his chest.

"I know it doesn't look perfect. And this shit keeps doing whatever it wants", groaning, she threw the piping bag filled with purple buttercream onto the counter and braced her hands on the surface. "I wanted the cake to be perfect! But I'm really terrible at baking."

"This is a fucking amazing, little girl", he huffed, seeing how dissatisfied she was with her work. And it wasn't a lie, the cake looked pretty good. He couldn't say what the inside looked like, but the cake was cut to look like a butterfly. In the middle it said 'Happy Birthday, Debbie' and was decorated with sprinkles and such.

"You think so?" Sighing, she lifted her head and studied Happy's expression to see if he was just saying that to cheer her up or if he really meant it.

"I wouldn't lie to you, you should know me a little by now", he grunted, leaning forward a little to grab a cup. "Debbie will freak out about it. She loves butterflies and cakes, you can't lose with the cake you made."

Just as Happy leaned forward next to her, Avery turned to the side, and was suddenly quite close to him now. Which wasn't intentional, she just wanted to reach for the bowl with the remaining buttercream.

She actually thought that something like that only ever happened in cheesy movies, that you suddenly found yourself so close to each other that you could feel each other's breath on your skin while you looked deeply into each other's eyes. It was one of those typical clichés and now she was in one herself.

Holding her breath, she looked into his dark eyes, which mostly seemed cold, as if they had already seen far too many bad things in life. It had become so quiet that the only thing that could be heard was Happy's breathing and every now and then the chirping of a few birds from outside.

Her heart pounded against her chest heavily as his hand slid to her hip and rested there, just his thumb drawing circles on her smooth skin, which was exposed as she was only wearing jeans and a top that showed some skin.

"You're fucking pretty, you know that?" he rasped, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear and taking his time studying her face.

"Thank you..", she breathed out, her eyes always on him.

"Thanks for that", he nodded towards the cake, after that he just got closer to her and closed the small distance that had still existed between the two of them. "You have no idea how happy this is gonna make her, what this will mean to her."

And the fact that she, the woman who was currently standing in front of him, looking at him with her blue eyes, had done that for his daughter made her even more attractive. She had the material to be the right one.

Happy knew that the feelings she made him feel were more than just lust. He didn't just want to bend her over the counter and fuck her, even though he'd love to do that. Instead, he wanted much more than just that, which he probably wouldn't admit so openly. Especially because he hadn't known her for long. But in the few weeks that he had spent with her every day, they had had an incredible amount of time to find out more about each other and while he didn't tell her as much about himself, he knew even more about her.

And the woman was an absolute jackpot. In terms of appearance and personality. Yes, maybe she was broken inside, but that was just another reason why he wanted to be close to herᅳ to make her feel better. She deserved to be happy. Usually it was always the other way around, usually it was the women who thought they could fix a broken guyᅳ but now he was the one who wanted to fix her.

"It's her birthday. How could I not do something like that?", she asked, her voice barely louder than a whisper. The redhead hesitantly placed her hands on his chest. "Every child deserves a birthday cake, especially a sweet and kind child like Debbie."

"She'll love the cake and probably won't leave your side anymore after that", he chuckled, eliciting a small laugh from her. A laugh he could hear all day and would never get tired of.

"I wouldn't have a problem with that. We're a really good team already in case you haven't noticed", the redhead smirked and bit down on her lip. "And by the way, I also really like you."

"Oh yeah, you do? I like you too, little girl." He looked at her with a slight grin, his hand slowly moving up to her waist, then to her back, where it rested again after he pulled her closer to him, causing Avery to let out a soft gasp, her hot breath tickling the skin on his neck.

The tension between the two was so present that you could hear sparks flying if it were physically possible.

Happy brought his free hand to her face, placed it against her cheek and let his thumb dance across her bottom lip. She held her breath again and that innocent look with which she looked up at him, the way her blue eyes got lost in his, did something to him.

Just as he leaned in, they heard small but quick footsteps echoing through the cabin and they both quickly separated from each other. Happy finally reached for the cup he wanted earlier and Avery cleared her throat before practically throwing herself in front of the cake before she smiled at the three year old who was now standing in front of her, rubbing her eyes, her turtle tucked under her arm.

"Good morning, sweetie." Still a little shaken up and excited, Avery tried her best to appear normal, as if she hadn't just almost kissed the little girl's father. And who knows what would have happened after that. "Why don't you wait in the living room for us? We'll be right with you."

"Good morning. And n-no, I w-w-want to stay with you", Debbie smiled sleepily and hugged Avery's leg before she wanted to go over to Happy to do the same, Avery always making sure that she stood in front of the cake so that the little girl wouldn't see it.

"I was just on my way to the living room anyway, bug", Happy lied eagerly, ruffling her brown hair. After all, Debbie wasn't supposed to see the cake until tomorrow and he also needed a moment to cool down again.

"Okay, b-but c-can I get a snack?" she asked, giving Happy her best puppy eyes look before she looked around the kitchen, which was definitely a huge mess. "D-did you b-b-bake?" Debbie asked curiously, looking up at the redhead.

"Well, yeah", Avery scratched her forehead. Debbie wasn't stupid, so she had to come up with a good excuse.

"Come on, Avery needs a minute for herself. In the meantime, we're thinking about what we're going to do today. Does that sound good?" Happy spoke up, hoping his daughter wouldn't ask more questions about the baking.

"O-okay, let's do t-that", the three year old giggled and looked at the two of them mischievously before she sped off into the living room and started playing with her toys.

"Thanks!" Avery let out the breath she had been holding in for a moment and immediately put the cake in the fridge that Happy had opened for her after he got a snack for Debbie. "I'll clean up here quickly, maybe we can go to the diner in town to have breakfast afterwards?"

She looked up at the heavily tattooed biker, who was standing close, but not that close anymore. The mood from just a moment ago was definitely gone, but that didn't mean that there was no longer any tension in the air. Because there was. Both of them wanted to feel the other one close.

"Sure", he rasped, and before he followed Debbie, he stopped close to Avery and pressed a kiss against her temple before he left her overwhelmed with her feelings and joined his daughter in the living room.

authors note; this was kind of a filler and not as long as usual, sorry! I hope you enjoyed it anyway. Have a nice day. 🥰
