"Okay. Let's get through them again, yeah?"

"I got it, Thomas."

"No. Tell us."

"I can't kill. Did I ever say I would kill people? No. Was I planning to? Only the people in our way. Is that bad? No, because Lawrence will blow them up anyways."

"Wrong. You and Jeff are going to walk into the rooms we assigned you as we take the kids away. You check out their backstories. If they were forced or brainwashed or whatever, you take them away before Lawrence blows them up. No killing!"

"I still don't like that idea," Gally announces, tucking a gun in his waistband. "Why not just leave straight after we find the kids?"

"Yeah. You can't save everyone, Thomas," Brenda adds.

He gives them a look of hesitation. "I can try."

"No." Joan's fists nearly ball in anger, randomly. "We don't know those people. They put us in the Maze. They were dumb enough to work for WCKD. They might've let themselves get tortured to work for them. We don't have to save anyone else but the kids."

"So if you would've been tortured into working for WCKD, you wouldn't want anyone to save you?"

"I think I'd rather die getting tortured or wouldn't even want anyone to save me, purely because I wouldn't want to live with the fact that I've worked for WCKD."

"You don't know—"

She nearly throws her hands in the air. "I do! I've worked for them before and it was hell. I had wounds on my hands from all the hours I worked! You've worked for them. Did you like it? Probably not. Or did you?"

"From what I remember, I was provided of food and water better than any point of my life since I lost my memories." There's a slight raise in his voice. "But that's not the point—"

"You're saying you'd still work for them?"

"No! Never!" He nearly throws his hands in the air. "I'm just saying worse things have happened, alright? I barely knew what I was doing back then."

"Guys, come on. Let's not," Fry interferes. "Just hurry. We need to go."

"I don't like him."

Gally lets go of a breath. "I've noticed." He kicks away a rock that's in front of his feet as they walk through the underground tunnels, on their way into the city.

Thomas and Newt are a few feet away, and Fry and Jeff are between them and Gally and Joan, so Thomas and Newt for sure won't hear her words.

"But you can try to get along with him," he then adds. "He's your cousin, after all. And you're pretty similar... in some ways."

"Or we simply just don't get along," she states.

"You can try," he repeats.

The girl pulls a face. "No. He's so stubborn and his way of working is weird and—"

"He thinks the exact same of you."

"Yet my plans are better. He barely ever has a plan."

"When he does have one, it can be a good one. This is a good one."

"Whose side are you even on?"

"No one's."

She bites her lip. Okay. Fine. Maybe Thomas has a little point. And Gally, too. And he has all the right to choose no one's side.

Doesn't exactly mean she agrees.

"You've changed," he says. He has said it before, around the time they kidnapped her. But his voice sounds different now.

"Good or bad?"

He hesitates. "I don't know."

Her heart sinks. She nods, and continues walking.

The Gladers have made their way into WCKD's headquarters.

In fact, they've bursted into the room where they know the kids are locked in. They're firing gunshots at the guards until all of them are no longer able to fight back, and then they start checking the rooms.

After the argument thing with Thomas, and Gally's words, and basically everything that has happened, she feels a desperate need to see Camil. He'd understand. He'd let her explain, if only she would've understood herself.

Kids surround her and the others. She inspects every single face, but notices neither Camil or Minho.

And then she checks the cells, but no one is there.

"Where are they?" She gives Teresa a glare. Her first thought is that the girl might've lied to them. That they're not here at all, and that Janson will soon arrive and take them.

But Teresa looks a tad panicked too, and starts looking things up. After a while, she looks back up. "They're in the medical wing. That's... that's on the other side of the building."

"Take us there," Thomas orders.

"But—"

"Right now," Gally adds. "Change of plans. Jeff and Newt, you two get these kids out of here."

"But you were supposed to—"

"I'm not leaving these three alone," he decides, motioning at Thomas, Teresa, and Joan. "They'll kill each other either on purpose or on accident."

"That's not—"

"That's definitely true."
