Chapter 10
I saw all of their expressions change from confused to shock.
"How is that possible? His scent was just like an ordinary witch." Marcus said.
"He must have cloaked it." Said Caleb.
"But we ingested a shit ton of witch bane inside him, how could he still perform magic."
"Cool, right?" Enzo knocked Caleb at the back of his head at this, "Ouch."
Hemomage were one of the most deadliest creatures. Nobody fucked with them, Gods have mercy on those who did. They were both Vampire and Witch. They were also very rare.
"The witch bane didn't do shit, you fools." I snapped at them, "The reason witch bane didn't work on him and he could still perform magic was because he had vampire and witch blood flowing in his veins and the blood smothered all the effects that were caused by witch bane."
"I thought that was a myth."
"Well, apparently it's not." I sighed and remembered that I had not told them about the fact that he was from The Serpent Coven. "Did I mention that he's from The Serpent Coven? I think not. Oops."
"And you're telling us this now because?"
"Give me a damn break, Marcus. I already have a lot on my mind and it slipped."
"Yeah, she's right. Give her a damn break." Caleb said pointing his finger at me.
"What is The Serpent Coven doing here in our territory and killing our people?" Marcus asked, squinted his eyes.
I gulped. Should I tell them?
Of course, you should. Said the little voice inside my head.
Don't be silly. Hissed the bitter little voice inside my head.
I opened my mouth to say something but before I could utter a word Enzo spoke.
"What I fail to understand is that we had him here for a week and all this time he didn't do anything or say anything, for that matter. But the moment you walked inside the cell he confesses everything and also kills himself. He could have done that all this week but he didn't. How?"
Crap. "Perks of being an assassin, I guess." I said nervously. Why was I being nervous? Ugh.
"I see." I released a breath of relief at that, "But," shit, "Why is it that one second I was hearing everything crystal clear and the next I couldn't hear anything. Indulge me, little assass-"
A buzzing sounded and I thanked the Gods for that. I looked at where the buzzing came from and saw that it had been coming from Enzo's phone. He pulled his phone out and looked at me before picking it up. I could clearly see the message in his eyes. This is not finished.
"Yes, what is it? Get to the point, Brandon." Oh, so it's him. "What? I'm coming." He said and hung up. What? I want to know too! Why the hell didn't I activate my third sight. Crap.
"What is it?" I asked.
"There has been another murder."
"Oh." I said. "How many murders have there been till now?"
"Twenty Three, why?"
Not good. So not good.
"Enzo," I said, "I'm coming with you."
"Like this?" He pointed to me and then I realised that I was still covered in blood.
"Oh, I can fix this." I snapped my fingers and a white bright light appeared in my palm that grew big and enveloped me in an embrace. I closed my eyes and when I opened them all the blood had vanished from my body. It looked as if I had just taken a bath.
"Wow." Said Caleb, his eyes wide.
Enzo nodded and motioned for us to follow him.
"Don't you think those who think I'm," I willed myself to say that word "Your slave will find it strange that I'm accompanying you to a murder scene?"
"No, little assassin they won't. After all, you're my slave and always have to be by my side."
"Oh. Right."
"Here take this." He said, holding out a black cloak with a hood.
"What's this?" Even though I knew what it was.
"A cloak."
"Thank you so much for enlightening me with that so useful information. I would have never guessed, now would you please indulge me in what do I have to do with this?"
"You are welcome, little assassin. You have to wear this. There will be paparazzi there and I don't think that you would appreciate your face everywhere on the news."
"Oh. I see" I took the cloak out of his grasp and donned it on. My face all covered by the heavy fabric.
We came to a stop in front of a black Bugatti La Voiture Noire. Enzo called for Brandon to start the car and motioned for us to get in.
Enzo barked orders at Brandon about where to go. With each passing second I felt my anxiety rise. Something was wrong. Terribly wrong.
In less than thirty minutes we had arrived at our destination but it seemed like that the police had gotten there before us. And indeed, there was a huge horde of paparazzi. There were don't cross signs everywhere and a huge crowd of people was surrounding it. Mostly humans.
As soon as Enzo stepped out of the car all eyes fell on him. Everyone parted to make a way for the big bad vampire as he went to examine the murder by himself. A trembling cop got in his way and held out a hand for him to stop. God bless him.
(An: ACAB. Mere mention of cops disgust me.)
Enzo raised his eyebrow at the trembling man.
"I-I'm sorry...you c-can't go in there Sir Enzo. We have gotten orders to not let anyone in." The man said stuttering.
I held my breath and waited for Enzo to say something. Finally he opened his mouth, "Is that so?"
Those three simple words sent shivers down my spine. Those three simple words promised violence.
The man got aside in an instance, "Of course not, Sir! You may go in." Smart man.
Enzo nodded and walked towards where the body was lying. I followed after him.
My body froze and came to a stop as I saw who was lying there. Dead. No, this can't be.
