[This story is set in the mediaeval times]
Flashback:
10 years ago:
"Shu! Shu! Look! I found a flower! A beautiful flower!"
An (h/c) haired girl cheered happily as an albino ran to her with a smile plastered on his face as well.
"Let me see. Oh! It's a white rose Your Highness."
"A white rose? Does it mean something special?"
She asked and tilted her head as the red eyed boy chuckled and nodded.
"White roses symbolise loyalty, purity and innocence."
"Really? You're so knowledgeable Shu!"
The girl smiled happily again as she hugged the boy who now had a red face.
"P-princess, please don't h-hug me like this. If a servant spots us then he or she will misunderstand and I might get i-in trouble."
"Oh! Is that so? My apologies."
The girl apologized and pulled away as the albino panicked again,
"Princess why must you be so polite? You shouldn't be apologising to a lowly peasant like me."
A frown appeared on the girl's cute little face as she crossed her arms and said,
"You're not a lowly peasant! You're the son of the General of the army of our kingdom! You'll become the next General! And above all that, you're my FRIEND!"
She put emphasis on the word "friend" as the young boy smiled and nodded in agreement to her.
"If Your Highness wants me to be her friend then I dare not deny."
"No need to be so formal, Shu kun."
She smiled and held out her pinkie finger to him.
"Pinky promise?"
The albino nodded at once and intertwined his pinkie finger with hers.
"Pinky promise. I'll always be your friend."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
1 year later:
The (h/c) haired princess was anxiously walking around her room as her personal bodyguard, a.k.a., Shu stood in one corner and looked at her with a gaze filled with sympathy.
Suddenly, a maid and a knight barged in the room as they both bowed down to the girl who looked at them with her eyes still showing worry and anxiety.
"Y-your majesty, t-the king and the queen..."
"What? What happened to mom and dad?! Tell me!"
"T-they have b-been k-killed."
"What?!"
The maid said that one sentence which completely shattered the princess. She couldn't control the outburst of her emotions and fell on her knees, trying to convince herself that it was not true.
"N-no..."
"Your majesty!"
The maid quickly went by her side and tried to calm her down as the knight turned his eyes to Shu who was looking equally devastated like the (h/c) haired princess was.
But there was more devastating news in store for him. The knight signalled him to follow him outside, which the albino did and then he closed the door to the princess' room.
"Tell me what happened."
Shu asked softly as the knight took his helmet off and looked down.
"The king and the general were fighting with the enemies but there was a traitor amongst our army who'd delivered the messages of our strategies to the enemies already."
He paused for a bit but Shu urged him to continue.
"Because the enemy knew our moves in advance, they seeked the opportunity to first attack the general and then assassinated the king."
The red eyes of the 6 year old boy widened as he looked at the knight in shock but the knight had already understood what he was going to ask for.
"The general too...is dead."
He said in a low tone and expected a similar reaction from Shu just as the princess had but instead he was surprised to actually find a young boy like him still keep his composure after hearing such a news.
"H-how did the queen die?"
"After the death of the king, the queen stepped into the battlefield and took charge of the army. She lead us very well but by that time half of our soldiers had already fallen dead and so the enemies successfully killed the queen too."
The knight responded in a low tone as the albino clenched his fists in anger and punched the wall opposite to the room door.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
A few days after the war had ended:
"N-no! Mom! Don't leave me!"
Shu cried and begged as he held his dying mother's hand.
"I'm sorry my son...your dad is waiting up there for me. I can't bear to live without him."
The pale lady in the bed smiled weakly at her son who was a crying mess.
"I-I'll call the doctor right away and-"
"Listen to me, Shu."
The lady gathered all her leftover energy and used it to hold her son's hand in both of hers.
"Your dad and I had one wish. But it looks like we won't be able to fulfill it. Will you complete mom and dad's last wish?"
The boy held his mother's hand and nodded without hesitation.
"I will! I will do anything!"
"Our family is forever in debt with the royal family. Your dad and I had sworn to protect the family with our lives. But now, only the princess is alive. She's the last hope of our kingdom. Promise me that you'll protect her position as the queen no matter what it takes."
"I-I promise mom!"
"That's my good boy. And remember, dad and mom will always be proud of you. No matter where you go, if you need us, we'll always be there in your heart."
"M-mom stop talking like you're going to leave me! Nothing will happen to you!"
The albino cried as he hugged her frail body and she smiled weakly and returned the hug.
"..Mom loves you Shu..."
The eyelids fell heavy and the last breath came out as her hands went cold and fell heavily on the boy's back.
"MOM!"
He screamed and shook her body in vain in an attempt to wake her up but that was useless. Hearing his cries, the servants came running in along with their family doctor but bowed their heads in sorrow and sympathy at the sight before them.
"Mom! Don't leave me! Wake up! Please wake up!"
He repeated his words over and over again but the lady was already dead.
The servants somehow managed to get him of the dead body as he cried and protested and some others came to take the body away for burial.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
One month later:
"And here comes the queen! Queen (Y/N)!"
A royal official announced as trumpets were played in the background, signalling the arrival of the young queen.
A 6-year old girl, wearing several jewelries and a tiara with a matching gown, came out to address her people as the same albino, who had promised to be her friend always, stood by her side with a straight yet expressionless face.
The death of the king and the queen resulted in their daughter becoming the youngest queen ever crowned.
The death of the General and his wife resulted in their son becoming the personal bodyguard of the new queen.
Both the children had to suffer hard emotional blows at such a young age. Both of them lost their parents.
End of flashback
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Present day:
Third person or No one's P.O.V.
(Y/N) sat on her throne just as any other regular day, hearing and solving the problems of her people.
Just like any other day, Shu was not there by her side. He was probably out somewhere, training or recruiting the soldiers for the army.
It was a fact that he was much better than the previous General and even carried out all the responsibilities with utmost sincerity.
People in the kingdom, including the queen herself respected him greatly.
But...
Ever since the day his mother died, the red eyed albino never spoke a word other than when he was required to for his duty.
He had become much more colder to everyone and never went to (Y/N) unless the matter was of urgent importance.
The (h/c) haired girl still remembered the promise that they had made years ago and very often tried to call him for tea or just for a stroll in the garden but he'd always deny.
In fact, he never really appeared in front of her unless she was in grave danger and was the only person in the whole kingdom to actually be able to deny the queen's orders.
Some people even called him disrespectful for that.
After finishing her daily duties, the (e/c) eyed girl told everyone to leave until she was alone in the throne room.
The she clapped her hands and there came her loyal secret messenger who bowed respectfully in front of her.
"Greetings to your majesty."
"You may rise."
She said as he stood straight with his hands still clasped together and asked,
"Why did your majesty wish to see me?"
"I want you to deliver a message for me. Go and tell the general that the queen wishes to meet him."
At this, the messenger responded,
"But your majesty, he'll just deny like he usually does. Why do you keep insisting on trying even though you know he has no respect for you?"
(Y/N) relaxed back in her throne and said,
"This is something that you won't understand. The general is indeed a special person to me. Go and tell him that I wish to speak to him over something really important. And if he denies then tell him that this is a strict order from the queen."
"This one will go right away."
The messenger responded as he bowed once more before disappearing into the thin air again.
After he was gone, the girl stared out of the window and thought,
'Oh Shu, just what happened to you? We've both lost our parents and been through the same pain. Why did you distance yourself away from me? Have you forgotten the promise we made years ago? Did you forget you told me you'll always be my friend?'
She sighed and closed her eyes, trying to distract her mind for a while from these thoughts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Meanwhile with the messenger and the general:
The albino male was practicing sword fighting in the royal garden in his armour when he heard a sudden rustling of the leaves in the tree above him.
"What is it huh?"
He sighed and stopped as the messenger jumped down from the tree and took his mask off, revealing another boy, same age as him but having blue hair and chocolate brown eyes.
"I've got a message from the queen for you General."
He said and leaned against the tree as Shu put his sword back and stared at him.
"Firstly, it's Shu for you, Valt. Secondly, if she wants to see me then tell her that I'm busy."
The red eyed albino responded to him and wiped the sweat on his face. Ever since his parents died, this cheerful blunette has always been there with him.
Since Valt was also the queen's secret messenger, he used to convey (Y/N)'s messages to him and send his replies back to her daily. Back to now...
"Okay, okay. But the queen said that she wishes to speak with you on important matters right away. And you can't deny because it's her strict order. Maybe you should really go and see her this time."
"Huh? Important matters? Okay, fine. I will go."
And with that he left to see (Y/N).
--------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Queen's room:
A maid walked in the room and bowed down to the queen who was reading a book and lying on her stomach on the bed.
"Your majesty, the General is here to see you."
(Y/N)'s eyes lit up with joy but she quickly concealed it with a straight expression and responded,
"Alright. Let him in."
The maid bowed as she left and Shu walked in the room. By this time, the (h/c) haired girl was seated properly on her bed.
"I heard that your majesty wishes to see me. What can I do for you, Your Highness?"
The albino kneeled as he greeted and the girl let out a soft sigh.
"Rise, General."
Shu stood up and then she asked,
"What has happened to you?"
"This one doesn't understand the queen's question clearly."
"Cut the formalities. You don't have to be like this."
At this, the red eyed albino stood up from his kneeling posture and stared at the queen who was wearing a displeased look on her face.
"Why did you change so much Shu?"
"Pardon?"
"Let me ask you. Have you forgotten the promise you made with me?"
Shu hae actually never forgotten a single word that he'd said to (Y/N) in front of that white rose. He was actually surprised to see that she hadn't forgotten it as well.
"Answer me."
"I haven't your majesty. I remember every single word."
He couldn't possibly lie to her. Not because she was the queen now but because she was his friend. Or maybe something...more than a friend?
"Then tell me why you always deny when I ask you to come and meet me? Why do you always act cold to me? You've saved me several times from the enemies by risking your own life but yet you act as if nothing happened. May I ask why?"
"It's my duty as a General to protect the queen and ensure her safety. I merely do my duties as your army general. Yet, you're unhappy with me. I fail to understand the reason."
He said and tried to dodge that question but the (h/c) haired girl was determined to have her truth today. She walked up to him and looked at him straight in the eye.
"Are you still my friend Shu?"
"Your majesty, I said that to you as a promise when we were kids an-"
"So that promise means nothing to you now? Because we made it as kids?"
(Y/N) asked as the albino now failed to read the expression in her eyes. Her eyes showed an expression which looked both blank and displeased. Something he couldn't exactly interpret.
The girl turned away from him and walked back towards her bed and he opened his mouth to speak but was stopped by the girl saying,
"You're dismissed."
Her tone was suddenly filled with coldness and perhaps...sorrow? Shu took a step forward but she lashed out again,
"I said you're dismissed! Didn't you hear me! Get out of my room now!"
For some reason, the albino felt a strange pain in his heart when she said those words to him. Almost like he didn't want to hear her saying those things to him.
'I...think I said something I shouldn't have. If I leave now...I might not be able to get a chance to fix things between us again...'
He thought as the now angry queen turned around to repeat herself again but before she could do that, Shu went up to her and embraced her in his arms.
(Y/N) was startled and her first instinct wanted to immediately push him away but for some reason she didn't do that. In her mind, she really wanted to push him away but her body didn't seem to agree with that.
She opened her mouth and was about to speak something but the red eyed knight spoke before her,
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset. I honestly consider you as my friend but I made a promise to my mom before she died. I promised her that no matter what happens, I'll always protect you."
"But then...why did you distance yourself away from me...?"
"I did that because I thought that if I get involved with you emotionally then I might fail my duty to protect you."
The girl looked up at him in complete disbelief.
"Seriously? How can you think like that huh?"
"I don't know myself either. I just...didn't want you to be at risk at any cost."
"Such a moron you are!"
She said and smacked his head not too hard as he groaned lightly and rubbed the part he'd just been hit at.
"Ouch...hey! That hurts y'know!"
"You are a real idiot you know that? Asides from military and combat, you're a complete dumbo!"
"Okay, okay. Geez! I'm sorry. I was just too focused on fulfilling my mother's last wish! I didn't think about anything else."
"Hmph! Fine. Apology accepted. But I still have a question for you."
"What would that be?"
"Would you like to...get a promotion?"
Shu blinked confusingly at her before pulling away from the embrace.
"But being the military general is already such a high position. What can be higher than this?"
The (e/c) eyed girl giggled a bit before leaning closer to him and whispering in his ear,
"What I meant is...are you interested in becoming the king?"
The albino's red eyes widened in shock as he looked at her and was about to say something but the girl stopped him before he could.
"I know, I know! I've had feelings for you for a long time now! You've saved me several times already so I think it's perfectly justified if I ask you to become the emperor, isn't it?"
"Actually...I was gonna say that I'd love to be. If I get to stay by your side and protect you then I'd love to be the king. But..."
"But?"
"I'm not very well aware about the state affairs and administrations. I can only help you with the defence and security of the country. You'll have to manage the other things by yourself your majesty."
The girl sighed before standing on her tip toes and hugging the albino in front of her.
"If that's what you're worried about then don't worry. I've got this. I just want my saviour to stay by my side too."
Shu smiled as he returned the hug and responded,
"As you say, your majesty. Your wish is my command."
"My first wish is for you to stop being so formal with me."
She laughed as he joined in and nodded.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
4 years later:
Third person's or No one's P.O.V.
A/an (h/c) haired lady was sitting by the window of her room, watching her husband and children play in the garden.
The albino emperor ran around as he tried to chase the little boy who had light (h/c) highlights in his hair and the crimson eyes of his father.
"(Son's name)! Come back here! Dad is tired you know!"
He called out as the little boy ran and hid behind his albino twin sister who had (e/c) eyes.
"(Daughter's name) look how naughty your brother is. He won't listen to daddy."
Shu whined as both the kids giggled before running up to him and hugging him, making him hug them back.
'Someday, (S/N) and (D/N) are gonna be great rulers and warriors...just like me and Shu. And we'll always support them in doing the right things.'
(Y/N) thought as she smiled as she stood up and went to join the rest of her family in the garden.

My fingers are hurting now. ๐ฅฒ
This is the longest one shot I've written so far. I was in doubt whether to make it in 2 parts or not. But then I thought...
If I do that then the second part is definitely going to be shorter than the first one. And that's...unacceptable to me!
I'm sorry if I made you wait too long. I'm sorry if you didn't like it or if this one shot was cringe. I'm also sorry for my terrible grammar. ๐
Anyways vote, comment, share and maybe....follow me too? All the characters belong to Hiro Morita, only the story plot is mine.
Stay safe and have a nice day/noon/evening/night.
Sayonara, bug out.
