Third person's P.O.V.

"Hello! Are you new here?"

The girl to whom the question was asked, looked up as she nodded in response,

"Yes, I'm new here."

"I see. My name is (Bestie's name)! We can be friends if you'd like?"

The girl who approached the (h/c) haired girl smiled and extended her hand for shaking.

"I'd love to. My name's (Y/N). (Y/N) (L/N)."

The girl smiled as she shook (B/N)'s hand who asked,

"How about I show you around?"

"That's a good idea."

"Okay then! I'll show you around during lunch, alright?"

"Alrighty."

(Y/N) smiled, happy to have found a friend on her first day of this new school. Just then, the teacher entered in the classroom making all the students immediately rush back to their seats as (B/N) waved at her before doing the same.

After classes:

"And this is where the infirmary is!"

(B/N) grinned as she showed the (h/c) haired girl the school infirmary.

"I see."

(Y/N) smiled and nodded in response. Both of them stopped walking in the corridor when they heard some of the female students squealing and running out in the ground.

"What's going on?"

The (e/c) eyed girl asked as she stood near the window of the corridor and watched those girls run to a particular direction.

"Oh nothing much. Today's the practice day of the school's football team. They're probably going to watch that."

"Football team? But why're they squealing so much about it?"

"Because they'll get to see our team's captain play. He's very handsome and the topper of our school."

"Oh. Poor him. He must get bothered by his fangirls a lot, right?"

(Y/N) asked as the group of the girls had disappeared and (B/N) was leading her downstairs already.

"Actually no. He may have a lot of girls swooning over him but none of them have actually dared to approach him yet."

"Eh? Really? Why is that?"

"Because he has a very cold attitude. If anyone even dares to look at him in the way he doesn't find right, his cold gaze is enough for them to know that he does not like to be bothered."

"Sounds scary."

(Y/N) sweatdropped awkwardly as (B/N) too lead her to the school's football ground and somehow managed to get both her and the (h/c) haired girl a place in the front row.

"Don't tell me...you're a fan too."

"I am a fan! But I'm not Shu's fan! I'm Valt's fan!"

"Valt?"

"He's Shu's best friend! He's almost always there wherever Shu is!"

(B/N) squealed, making her new best friend chuckle nervously as the match began and the girls began to cheer loudly,

"GO SHU!"

"YOU'VE GOT THIS SHU-SAN!!!"

Sure there were boys and girls too, who were fans of the actual sport and the skills of the players but their cheers were almost suppressed under the loud squealing of the fangirls who seemed as if they'd jump in the field if the audience line borders weren't present.

'I wonder which one of them is Shu-'

(Y/N) thought as she looked from player to player, trying to identify the star for whom the crazy cheering was going on.

As if the universe heard her thoughts, she found a boy with white hair and shining crimson eyes take the lead with the ball and score a goal within the thirty seconds he did so.

'His kick was so strong! That must be him!'

She thought, finding herself admiring the team's captain too.

After school:

"See you tomorrow (Y/N)!"

"Yeah! Bye bye!"

The (h/c) haired girl smiled as she waved at (B/N) who returned the gesture before they both turned to go through separate roads as their homes were in different directions.

'The first day of this school wasn't so bad.'

(Y/N) thought, smiling to herself as she was much more happy in this school than she was in her previous one.

It wasn't that she didn't have any friends or issues with teachers but because she was always bullied by a group of boys. They weren't from her school but bullied her because they found it fun.

When she told her parents about this, they went to the school and talked to the principal to find out about the boys. But because the bullies were never in their school uniforms, they couldn't find which school they were from.

When her parents decided to take the matters to the police station, the cops watched her for a few days. They even caught the bullies once but they managed to escape and didn't appear for two weeks.

When (Y/N) thought everything had calmed down, they appeared again and this time threatened her to not tell her parents otherwise it won't be good for her.

(Y/N) being the shy and innocent girl she was, gave in and tolerated the bullying for a long time. The bullies hadn't seen her home but they always waited at a certain place from where she always passed while going to school and bullied her.

However, her parents weren't blind. They were concerned about why their daughter always came back looking like a mess from school and asked her about it but she always made up lies. They knew something was up but didn't want to force her.

In the end, they changed her school and hoped she could have a fresh start there.

"Oho~ Isn't it our favourite plaything?~"

A sudden whistle sound made the (e/c) eyed girl pause in her tracks as her eyes widened when she saw the same old group of bullies standing in one corner of the road and smirking at her.

They were wearing the same school's uniform as hers.

Oh shit.

(Y/N) stepped backwards before she turned to her heels and immediately ran into the opposite direction as one of the boys in the group yelled out,

"HEY! STOP RIGHT THERE!"

But she didn't listen and ran as fast as she could, turning round a corner and...tripping over a stone.

"Gotcha now~"

The sound of one of the familiar bullies made (Y/N) panick as she looked behind herself with wide eyes and scooted backwards on the ground.

"What's going on here?"

A deep voice interrupted as both the girl and the boys looked to see who it belonged to.

It was none other than the school topper and heartthrob, Shu Kurenai. The albino stared back and forth between the girl and the boys before he closed the textbook he was holding and asked again,

"What's going on here?"

Only this time, his voice came off as more deep and demanding. The bullies gulped nervously before their leader came forward and rubbed his nape sheepishly as he answered,

"N-Nothing. W-we were just saying 'hi' to the newcomer. W-we will be going now!"

As soon as he said that, his friends immediately nodded before all of them turned around and scurried off.

After they were out of sight, the crimson eyes of the albino turned to the (h/c) haired girl on the ground who blinked in confusion at what just happened.

"Are you alright?"

He asked in a tone, softer than before as he went up to her and stretched out his hand for her to take.

"Y-yes, I am. Thank you for helping me."

(Y/N) said as she took his hand and stood up, brushing the dust off her uniform as the albino asked,

"You're the new transfer student?"

"Ah, yes that would be me."

"Pleased to meet you. I'm Shu Kurenai. I'd like to apologise on behalf of those morons. I hope you won't get the wrong impression of our school just because of a bunch of idiots."

Shu said with a neutral expression but the girl sensed the calmness in his tone as she smiled softly,

"It's a pleasure to meet you too. My name's (Y/N) (L/N). Don't worry...I'm finding the school good so far. I even made a friend today."

"Great to hear that. Be careful on your way back though."

The albino said as he turned to leave and the (h/c) haired girl nodded her head quickly as she waved,

"I will! Thanks again for the help!"

"It's not a big deal. See ya."

"Bye bye!"

Author's P.O.V.

After that day, when (Y/N) told (B/N) about her encounter with the football team's captain, she couldn't help but squeal and ship Shu and the (h/c) haired girl together, making (Y/N) blush and regret telling her about it.

But there was something she'd noticed that day. The bullies immediately got nervous and ran away when they saw Shu. Why? Were they afraid that he'd tell the teachers or the principal and get them suspended? Or was it because...he was strong enough to beat the crap out of all of them?

Whatever may be the reason, it helped the (h/c) haired girl draw one conclusion — Shu was her safe zone.

And so, in the following days, whenever the bullies came after her, she took refuge in the albino's presence.

Let's take an instance for example -->

Flashback:

"Get back here you little-"

Before the boy could finish, (Y/N) had already run away. She'd just kicked her bully because he was trying to touch her in a wrong way.

'I need to hide somewhere quickly!'

The (h/c) haired girl thought while running before she glanced over her shoulder, seeing the bully boy and his friend chasing her.

It was night-time and she was out to buy a few groceries that her mom asked to but unfortunately, she bumped into those bullies.

While running, she came across a gaming arcade and saw a familiar red bicycle parked outside.

'It must be his!'

(Y/N) thought as she ran straight in the arcade, the two boys chasing close behind. Luckily, she found the albino rather quickly as he was seated in front of a shooting game with his friends.

"No way! How'd the Dark Prince lose again?!"

A boy on the console opposite to the albino's groaned in frustration, making the rest of his friends laugh.

The (h/c) haired girl immediately ran to Shu's chair and stopped right behind it, grabbing the attention of both the albino and his friends.

"Gotcha! Now-"

One of the bullies exclaimed but stopped midway when he noticed Shu giving an intense stare to both him and his friend. He gulped nervously and immediately ran away, his friend following shortly after.

"Um...Shu..."

Valt called out, scratching his cheek as the albino turned to look at him and raised his eyebrow in a questioning manner.

The blunette chuckled nervously as he pointed at the empty space where (Y/N) was standing a few seconds ago.

"She-"

"Ran away. I know."

Shu completed, sighing softly. He was used to this now.

End of flashback

And just like this, there were several more incidents where Shu was just going about his day and then (Y/N) would pop out of nowhere with bullies chasing her, taking shelter behind him and forcing him to act as her shield.

But how long was this gonna go on?

Third person's P.O.V.

'Why am I so unlucky?'

The (h/c) haired girl groaned mentally as she was running in the campus and looking for a place to hide from her bullies once again.

She happened to come across the back door of the sports room and decided to immediately hide in there.

'Great! If I hide there, they won't be able to catch up to me!'

She thought as she ran over there and pushed the door open before getting in and slamming it shut behind her.

"Phew..."

She sighed in relief as she walked over to lean against the iron shelves and tried to catch her breath.

"(L/N)?"

A voice called out, making her immediately open her eyes and look at the direction of the voice.

Shu was standing there, in the school uniform with a football tucked under his arm. He was staring straight in the (e/c) eyes of the girl as he asked,

"What're you doing here?"

"I-"

Before she could complete, the back door was flung open and as soon as one of the bullies saw her, he exclaimed proudly to his friends,

"Haha! I told you the scaredy cat must be hiding in here!"

They were about to charge at the girl but when their gazes fell on the albino standing behind her, they almost immediately froze.

Seeing that they weren't running away, Shu rolled his eyes before he kicked the football in their direction. It made them all scatter and immediately run outside as the ball rolled behind them.

The scene looked like a strike shot of bowling with the bullies being the pins.

It wasn't even a minute after the ball rolled out that one of the boys scurried back in with it and placed the football at the albino's feet before running out again.

After he left, the albino turned his head to the direction of the (h/c) haired girl and raised an eyebrow when he saw her trying to walk away and also leave.

"Where do you think you're going?"

Shu asked as he walked over to her, making her stop in her tracks.

"I-I u-um-"

As (Y/N) was still trying to formulate a plausible excuse, the albino approached her and put his palms on either side of her, trapping her in between himself and the shelf.

The (e/c) eyes of the girl widened as she gulped nervously, trying to think of a way to get out of this situation.

"Why do you always use me as a shield to protect yourself from those morons and then run away as soon as they're gone? It's not a nice thing, y'know."

Shu said in a deep and demanding voice as he waited for her response. (Y/N) shivered a little as she could feel his breath on her head before she answered in a low voice,

"I-I'm s-sorry. I-I can't fight so many bullies a-and after seeing that they were scared of you on my first day...I-I thought that if I'm anywhere near you then they won't dare bully me because they looked so scared of you..."

"Since when are those boys bullying you?"

The albino asked, his tone softer than before as the (e/c) eyed girl looked up at him slowly before she told him the entire story of her bullies.

After she finished, Shu stepped back from her and crossed his arms before asking,

"They've been bullying you for so long and you never thought of retaliating?"

"It's not like I never did. I could easily take down two or three of them but they always approach me as a full group..."

(Y/N) admitted, looking down at her feet as the crimson-eyed albino sighed softly before asking,

"When you figured out that they're from this school...then why didn't you tell your parents or the principal?"

"I didn't want to trouble my parents again a-and since I'm a new student here...I don't think that the principal would believe me..."

Shu hummed in response and put his fingers on his chin, as if he was thinking of something.

'This girl's heart is too soft and pure. She's the peace loving and innocent type...'

"Then what if I tell you there's a better way by which you can protect yourself from those bullies without having to use me as your shield?"

The albino asked as (Y/N)'s eyes lit up with hope and she asked eagerly,

"What is it? Please tell me!"

"It is..."

Shu began in a low voice as he leaned closer to her and whispered in her ear,

"...be my girlfriend."

"Oh I see- Wait- W-What?!"

The (e/c) eyes of the girl widened in shock as her cheeks reddened and the albino smirked softly before saying,

"If you be my girlfriend then even if I'm not around, let alone those bullies...not a single soul will dare lay a hand on you."

"I-I can't just agree like that!"

The girl said, completely flustered as Shu tilted his head in confusion and asked,

"Why not?"

"B-because being your girlfriend means we are in love with each other!"

"Are you trying to say that you don't love me?"

The albino asked with a sad expression as the girl immediately waved her hands in front of herself in defense,

"I didn't say that! B-but...do you like me?"

"Saying that I 'like' you would be an understatement. I actually 'love' you."

Shu said and smiled as he watched (Y/N)'s face turn red and expression become a mix of confusion and nervousness.

"S-Since when?"

"Since the day we first talked. I knew you were different from my fangirls. They follow me for my looks but you follow me to protect yourself from bullies."

He said and laughed a little at the last part, making the (h/c) haired girl pout and ask,

"They seemed to be terrified just with your glare! That's why!"

"I know. I know."

Shu chuckled before asking,

"So what do you say? Would you like to be my girlfriend?"

"Y-yeah sure."

(Y/N) answered, blushing lightly as he leaned forward to place a gentle kiss on her forehead.

BONUS:

The next day when (B/N) saw (Y/N) and Shu walk around the campus holding hands, she ran up to the couple and bluntly asked the reason.

Before the (e/c) eyed girl could say anything, the albino said,

"Because we're a couple."

Hearing that, (B/N) squealed in happiness as she took out her phone and clicked their picture before exclaiming,

"I'm gonna post it on the school group! This news needs to be known by everyone!"

"W-wait d-don't-"

The (h/c) haired girl raised her hand to stop her but it was already too late as (B/N) had posted it on the group and run off to tell her other friends.

"Let it be. They had to know sooner or later."

The albino said calmly as he watched his girlfriend facepalm before she said,

"But now I'm gonna be killed by your fangirls..."

"Stick with your shield at all times and nothing is going to happen to you."
