"Thanks again for tutoring me in English," Riley sighed as she sat down on one of the couches.
"No problem, this is better than trying to write a song through writer's block."

The two leaders were currently in Chan's studio for Riley's tutoring session.

As much as the girl really didn't want to study, it was always best for groups to have at least three English speakers and she knew that it wasn't going to be any of the other girls. After all, Mya and Lanhua were both Chinese so they covered two languages, like her, Mari was also Japanese, and Robin was the other English speaker. Alaska also spoke English, not as fluently as Robin, but she knew enough to hold a conversation.

So despite her being knowing Japanese and Korean, it was probably best that she knew English too.

"I got a workbook for us to go through," Chan smiled. "So it's easier for you to keep track of what you learned and easier to practice."

Riley nodded nervously.

She had studied on her own, of course.

In fact, she had even found an online course!

She likes to think that she had diligently studied every single day until the final exam and she didn't even cheat!

Riley was so confident that she was the first person finished and when she clicked submit, she almost didn't even check since she was so certain she had aced it.

But you know, she probably got a hundred and she figured that it would be good for her ego to check the score to boast.

...

A solid 32%.

Since then, Riley has refused to touch her English studies and had tried to avoid it at all costs.

It was embarrassing! She had even bragged to the members that she might be better than Robin and she wasn't even close to passing!

Riley only sighed and watched as Chan placed the book in front of her.

"Firstly, let's review our basic sentence structures," Chan started out. "In order to create a sentence, you'll need a noun and a verb."

Riley nodded, but desperately wanted to roll her eyes.

Maybe she could just get away with staring at Chan until the lesson was over and still pass.

"...and don't forget that at times you are able to add adjective and adverbs, and- Riley, are you listening?"

Oh shit.

"Yes!"
"Then what was I talking about?"

Her delusions were screaming at her that this was a sign that he was going to kiss her, but luckily for Riley, the one brain cell she had was working at its full power and telling her NOT to lean in.

"You were talking about adjectives and adverbs," Riley huffed. "I was listening!"

Chan chuckled a bit and nodded.

"I just wanted to check! Let's try this exercise!"

Riley looked down at the pages, specifically at exercise one.

'Please circle all the nouns, put a star next to all the verbs, put a square around the adjectives, and draw a triangle next to the adverbs.'

Riley let out a tiny huff and picked up the pencil, starting the exercise.

She flew it with supposed ease and handed it back to Chan, a bit proud.

As Chan pick up a marker to check the questions for whether they're correct or not, Riley held her breath, nervous.

"And... you got 7/28."

Riley looked at the page, shocked.

"What?! No way! Explain!"
"Well..."

As Chan began to explain at a rather fast pace, Riley's eyes only continued to widen and expand with both disappointed and confusion.

"Damn it," Riley sighed. "Its exactly like what happened last time."
"Last time?"
"Oh, I thought I was a much better English student than I actually was," Riley shrugged. "My overconfidence will be the thing to get the best of me."

Chan thought about it for a moment.

"How about trying to explain why you chose that answer instead of choosing it based on what you think is right? You need to be able to understand it too!"

Riley nodded, perking up a bit at his advice.

"Sure, I can try it!"

She tried a similar exercise to that again, this time going slower and trying to explain why that answer was chosen.

"Channie?"

The leader flushed bright red at the nickname, taken by surprise.

"Channie?"
"SHIT I'M SO SORRY!! It just came out, I swear! I really don't know why I said that or anything like that!"
"N-no, it's fine. I don't mind it."

Riley nodded, smiling shyly.

"And by the way, Riley, you aced this exercise."

He handed her back the paper that had a score of 26/28.

"While you were doing that exercise, I created some sentences for you to practice choosing the proper word tense!"

Riley nodded and smiled.

"Okay Riley, this one is easy. All you need to do, is pick the correct verb tense that goes in this sentence."
"Riley is blank," she read out with a bit of a thick accent.

Chan nodded, pleased with her progress.

"I don't know what that word means," Riley said, pointing at the adjective choices.
"Ah," Chan said, a bit bashful. "Do you know which option it is, at least?"

Riley nodded, pointing to one of the options.

Chan grinned.

"The word is beautiful."
