𝐓𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲'𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬:

"Hi girls!"

The six of them perked up instantly at the sound of a certain leader's voice.

As the Stray Kids members filled into the room, the cameras quickly shifted to film the stars.

"Hello!"

All the girls quickly bowed to their seniors as they walked into the practice room.

"Let's take a look at your performance than, shall we?"

As the members settled down on a seat, the girls gathered around for a final huddle before showing the idols.

"Do your best girls! Remember that today is about receiving criticism and feedback!" Riley beamed. "We are going to great."

The six of them hurried into their starting position; a diamond of sorts.

In the back centre was Mari in Haewon's part. To Mari's diagonal upper left, was Riley as Bae. Robin was on the upper right to Mari as Sullyoon, still much to Mya's dismay.

To Riley's upper right was Lanhua and to the right of Lanhua was Mya. Finally, the centre of the starting formation, Alaska, was ready.

With a nod to Renee, the music started and the girls began to move in the pattern.

With a wink to the boys, Alaska began singing.

Hyunjin watched proudly as his sister took centre stage to do exactly what he was doing.

He couldn't believe that both he and his sister were in the same industry, let alone the same company!

Meanwhile, Felix also watched, not with as much admiration from Hyunjin (with lots of restraint).

He just stared at the beautiful girl performing in the centre of the practice room.

She really was equally as talented and stunning as Hyunjin.

As the formation shifted into the first chorus, Mari moved to take the centre.

Suddenly, Hyunjin's eyes were caught by someone else other than Alaska for the first time in the competition.

The aura that Mari gave out as the centre was captivating.

It easily drew people in and suddenly Hyunjin was absolutely head over heels, enraptured by the performance.

Next was Riley who was doing Bae's part.

Chan couldn't hold back his grin as Riley absolutely nailed her performance.

Maybe she was perfect? Well except for her English skills of course.

And then Robin shifted into her place to do Sullyoon's part.

Minho and Jisung shared a look, proud of the girl.

Her stage presence was out of this world.

The whole group actually had good stage presence. There was really no reason for them not to debut. Minus the fact that they were competing for a spot.

Then finally, the chorus came and Alaska went back to the centre, shortly followed by Mya.

Although it was only for a short moment, Jeongin couldn't help the racing of his heartbeat. It really was so obvious to him that they were the ideal group for JYP to debut, clearly the only one who didn't see it was JYP.

And then Lanhua winked as she took the centre with a solid "Bittersweet, change up, let's go!"

And the song fully changed its concept into a brighter one.

The girls perfectly changed up the concept to be more fresh and bright compared to the previous darker one.

The girls danced with big and bright smiles on their faces, unable to contain their joy while performing to the happy tune.

All the Stray Kids members watched with the same infectious grin as they had.

They felt the same joy of seeing them perform as they were performing onstage while is exactly how they knew that those girls were meant to be idols. If they were able to energize a crowd to the point that they had the same energy was so incredibly impressive.

And then the concept switched back again to the darker one for Mari and Mya, once again.

Seems like there was a certain duo in the making.

And then it was finally time for the high note.

Of course, Mya was nervous for it.

In fact, in all of her practices she had never made the high note without her voice cracking or being confident enough to actually belt it.

So this was it; in front of her idols.

The high note.

An A5.

When she can only comfortably belt a C5.

Definitely not a big gap.

Or anything like that.

Renee held her breath as Mya geared up for the high note, crossing her fingers and toes.

And then...

She was flat.

Renee instantly deflated.

She had went for the note without showing any signs of nervousness and even did a hidden hand gesture to try and assist her.

But despite the obvious disappointment and upset that just happened, Mya refused to show the disappointment on her face.

She just continued to sing without any other mistakes.

If it hadn't been for that, the performance would truly be perfect.

When the song was over and the ending position had been held for five seconds and Renee yelled out 'cut', Mya collapsed to the ground, covering her face.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Mya whimpered, crying her eyes out. "I messed it all up, I'm sorry."

And Jeongin's heart broke.

He recognized that mistake, after all, he had done it before too.

As a mentor (and maybe something else), he felt obligated to help her so he rushed to her side on the ground.

"Mya, please don't worry about it," he said, trying his best to keep his voice steady. "I made that same mistake on Kingdom. And even though we scored poorly with that performance, it really wasn't my fault. In fact, I wanted so badly to show how hard I worked on it but that still wasn't enough. I know its the same for you too. Please don't worry about it because I know that you are working equally as hard, and you know what the difference is between this performance and the one I did?"

Mya looked up at Jeongin with red, bloodshot eyes and tear stains on her cheeks.

She shook her head wordlessly, crying too hard to be able to form words.

"This one is rehearsal. You still have a chance to wow the crowd. So please don't worry about it," Jeongin smiled.

And then he placed his hand on her shoulder, whispering so quietly that even the mic couldn't pick it up.

"You're more beautiful when you're smiling so please stop crying."
