Christmas for me was never about the trees
Not about the long journeys filled with traffic ridden roads
Or the fattest chickens in my grandmother's home
It had always been a celebration
A cacophony of hymns, symphonies of praise
Lips outpouring adoration to the one who has filled our cups.
It wasn't about the finest garments or shiny Dior
But rather a humble heart, pure conscience and a clean soul.
This is the offering that I give to my Saviour
Who came down to the world in a manger to do what no one else could
With his birth our candles were lit with hope, the devil lost his grip on earth
As he took his very first breath, chains broke, seals were undone and our fate was changed for the better
A destiny of sin and death was all that we'd come to know
But when Jesus showed up even the demons knew that they were in for the biggest showdown of all time.
Whenever I think of Christmas my heart is filled with gratitude
My God sent his only son down to this wicked earth to show us the narrow path
To touch our eyes so we could see
So we'd be filled with knowledge and a thirst for divine things
So he could show us a better way than sin.
He touched our ears so we could hear his voice
He now freely tells us of things to come
He touched our hands so we could feel his presence, never ever to remain the same
He touched our souls so he could dwell within us
Give us a gift that'd last a lifetime.
I don't know what Christmas means to you
And I have no idea how you'd rather spend it
But every time December nears, I am reminded of God's goodness
His mercy that never declines
His love that'll never leave us, follow us all our lives
With one supernatural event he changed the course of the earth forever
Oh what a wonderful God he is
Stronger than anything we could ever know
More powerful than those here now and those who are yet to come.
