As Bunny Palmer pulled the diner door open and stepped inside, only one thing crossed her mind; how incredibly stupid Dallas Winston was.
"He's crazy." Cherry Valance spoke as she closely followed Bunny through the diner. They walked across the black and white checkered floor and towards a table at the back of the restaurant. The two girls filed in to opposite sides of the bright colored booth, Darcie Godfrey and Tianna Monroe sliding in soon after.
"He could have killed us." Bunny said as she fixed her hard glare towards the wall. "I mean, who drives like that?" She flusteredly ran her hand down the white, cashmere cardigan she wore, and her irritation compounded when the small creases stubbornly refused to straighten out.
"No one in their right mind." Tianna piped up, still a bit shaken from the previous incident. "He's just reckless and... and stupid." She finished. Her deep blue eyes sparkled from the bright light above them as she glanced between her three friends.
"Tell me about it." Bunny sighs as she tucks her long blonde hair behind her ear. She rolled her eyes and took a breath to calm herself, then smoothly grabbed a paper menu from the center of the table.
On the way to Rusty's Diner, the group of girls had the misfortune of encountering Dallas Winston on the road. As a newly-licensed, cautious driver, Bunny would never fool around while driving - contrasting from Dallas' careless attitude while on the street. When the greaser took a sudden swerve in front of Bunny's pink corvette, lifted his hands off the wheel and up into the air, it scared the poor girl half to death. His idea of a 'joke' failed to amuse anyone riding in Bunny's car - perhaps with the exception of Darcie Godfrey.
"We'll have the usual." Darcie said, giving a single nod to the waitress approaching without giving anyone else a chance to speak. No one interjected, but instead handed their menus back to the waitress. The woman smiled at the four teens before turning on her heel, her jet-black curls bouncing atop her shoulders as she walked away.
"We should catch the movie at the Drive-In some time this week." Darcie encouraged, giving a knowing look to Bunny.
Bunny raised an eyebrow at her childhood friend, "What's playing?"
"Beats me." The girl replied. "But let's go anyway. We haven't been in a long time!"
Both Tianna and Cherry nodded. "That would be fun." the redhead approved, giving an eager smile to Bunny. "Just like the old days."
"How about tonight?" Tianna suggests. Darcie's mouth opened to make an objection, but she closed it as the younger girl went on. "You can drive us, Bunny! It will be your first night driving your new car." she jokes, elbowing the girl besides her while letting out a bit of light laughter.
"Oh, yeah." The 16-year-old said with a grin. "I guess I have to get used to driving it, huh?" She gave a knowing look to the rest of the group and leaned in, a smirk stretching on her face. "I say we-"
A small chime from the diner door sounded as it was shoved open, followed by a loud roar of boyish laughter. Bunny rolled her eyes and wrinkled her nose, not bothering to look behind her to discover the source of the noise.
As she predicted, 4 familiar teenage boys came barging in - all dressed in attire consisting of madras shirts or sweaters paired with khakis and dress shoes. With their similar style, the group seemed to be only carbon copies of one another. They all wore the same, crooked, cocky grin on their face as they jostled in, and one of the blonde boys shot a wink at the raven-haired waitress behind the counter. A rosy blush painted her cheeks, which the blonde took notice of, causing him to smile to himself in accomplishment. A brunette, curly haired boy made eye contact with Cherry and spotted the girls, so he quickly pulled his blonde friend away and towards the back of the diner. Two taller boys followed behind, laughing and conversating amongst each other.
"Yay." Darcie mumbled to herself, her words dripping with sarcasm. She rested her chin on her folded hands, while Tianna raised an eyebrow and peeked around to spot the boys.
"Hello Ladies" a blond boy said smoothly as he approached the table. He rested his arm on top of the turquoise booth that Bunny and Tianna shared, and then looked down at the 4 girls - mostly eyeing Bunny - with his signature cheeky smile.
The boy appeared to be about 16 - the youngest out of the group of boys - and he wore a blue checkered madras shirt with its sleeves rolled up to his elbow. The shirt was failing to remain tucked into his tan khakis, which had dirt smudges down the front. His golden blonde hair that usually sat neatly atop his head in a perfect middle part was now ruffled and out of place, a few strands falling in front of his crystal blue eyes. It was rare to see Jesse Bennett with messy hair and stained clothes, but it didn't feel out of place at this moment; the other boys looked just as roughed-up - contrasting from their typical clean, put together look.
"Bunny." Jesse greeted with a nod and a grin, after she reluctantly decided to look up and make eye contact with the boys.
The girl looked up at him blankly and stared for a few moments, then finally returning with, "Jess." She mirrored his nod and offered him a reserved smile.
A flirty comment left his mouth, prompting Bunny to scoff - trying to withhold her amusement - and pull Tianna closer to her. The 15-year-old girl raised her eyebrows and glanced at Bunny, but then averted her eyes to her lap to hide her blushed cheeks.
A taller boy in the group - who looked to be about 18 - walked over and stood next to the booth that Darcie and Cherry shared. He towered over the two girls who stared up at him, and when his hazel eyes met Darcie's, he gestured for her to move out of the way by nodding his head to the side.
Darcie raised both her brows at the blond standing above her, and snuck a frustrated glance to Cherry - who gave an apologetic smile in return - before rising. She walked over to the side to let the boy slide in, subsequent to slamming her foot down, rather hard, on his.
"Ow!" He yelped, scowling at the brunette girl as she returned a fake smile.
"Oh. Sorry."
The boy moved into the booth and placed his arm around the red-head that was now seated alongside him. His hair was a light blond, with loose waves shaping around his head. It was tangled, and was sticking up in several different directions. He wore a white collared shirt - that was heavily stained with dirt - and brown khaki pants. Thick, metal rings were piled on either hand, and a bit of blood was trickling from his bottom lip. Bob Sheldon was constantly looking for trouble - for instance, often getting in fights with greasers. It wasn't abnormal to find him with a bloody face every now and then, but the way Cherry Valance skeptically eyed him would make you think otherwise.
"Why do all of you look..." Cherry started, her eyes rapidly shifting between her boyfriend's eyes and his bloody lip.
"A mess." Bunny finished, drawing her eyebrows together and wrinkling her nose.
Jesse raised his eyebrows at the girl before looking down to examine his soiled trousers, then swiftly brushed his hands along his thighs in an attempt to clean himself off.
"Ran into some greasers." Another boy responded. He was tall, lean, and rather lanky, and his eyes were calmer than the rest
He placed a hand on the small of Darcie's back as he moved around her to slide into the booth next to Bob. The boy wore a wine-colored sweater and denim pants. His tousled dark brown hair was nearly black, and it was beginning to fall onto his forehead rather than its typical combed back style.
"You just happened to run into them, Randy?" Darcie inquired, sitting back down in the booth and occupying the remaining space left on the turquoise bench.
"Well, we got ahold of a little one-" Jesse began. He tried to take a seat in the space next to Tianna, but Bunny reached over the girl and pushed him away. He faked a pained expression, before dragging up a chair to the open portion of the table.
"Gave him a little haircut!" Mitchell Madison interjected, sharing a laugh with Jesse as he pulled up a chair next to the other side of him.
The fourth and final boy wore a powder blue sweater that was lightweight and loose-fitting. His chestnut curls were fluffier than usual, and bounced whenever he jerked his head aside to prevent the locks from falling in front of his light green eyes. His thin lips formed a smile, showcasing his perfectly white teeth. He sat backwards on the chair, straddling the seat with his arms laying upon the backrest that was now in front of him.
"Then the rest of his gang showed up." Bob shrugged, leaning back in the bench he sat on while a smirk grew on his face.
Cherry's lips parted and her eyebrows scrunched together at the boy's amusement, then she smacked Bob's arm. His laughter settled down once he turned to look at the auburn-haired girl staring daggers at him. "Did you really?"
"Yeah..?" He answered, sneaking a brief look to Mitchell, both attempting to withhold their laughter.
A hard glare subconsciously made its way onto Darcie's face as she listened, and she crossed her arms while scanning the group of chuckling boys. Tianna bit the inside of her lip to keep a comment from escaping her mouth, and kept her sapphire eyes on Cherry, anticipating her next move.
Bunny kept quiet. Her face was still; she seemed bored and pretty unbothered as she watched the discussion unfold. The blonde shifted in her seat, then lazily moved her gaze downwards. She laid her hands over her lap and she folded her fingers, hooking her thumbs on top.
"When are you going to learn to leave those poor greasers alone." Cherry asked rhetorically, shrugging Bob's arm off her own shoulders. Bunny looked up and furrowed her eyebrows at the ginger, but Cherry was too distracted to notice.
"Oh c'mon, Cherry." Bob narrowed his eyes. "You don't actually pity those hoods, do ya?" A few of the other boys snickered, watching the red-head and awaiting her reaction.
She let out a sharp breath, and promptly glanced to her lap before turning her head to have a clear view of the boys. A single statement cooly left her mouth; "If anything, I pity you."
The boy beside her snickered. "Oh, I see." Bob teased, raising his arms up jokingly, not offended by her sass in the slightest. He put his arm back around her and Cherry, whilst rolling her eyes, reluctantly subsided.
A tray of 4 milkshakes and a large basket of fries was carried over by the waitress and gently placed down on the table. It was just the interruption most of the girls were looking for.
"4 Cheeseburgers and 2 malts'' Jesse winked at the lady, sending an order for him and the other boys.
Mitchell already had his hand in the basket of fries before any of the girls had a chance to look twice - but Bunny merely neglected him and grabbed hold of her vanilla shake that stood on the center of the pink platter.
Darcie nudged Mitchell out of the way as she went in for her own handful of fries. He faltered for a second, then leaned over and softly voiced some comment to the older girl. She snorted, and instantly took a drink of her mint shake to keep herself from choking. Both the socs exchanged a lighthearted grin while the rest of the group commenced their own conversation, ridding the tense atmosphere.
"Bunny," Jesse said, beginning to talk to her once she had taken the first sip of her milkshake. The girl raised her eyebrows toward Jesse and turned her head to face him, with the straw still in her mouth. "We were thinking, maybe tonight we could all go over to my place and-"
"Can't." She shrugged. While she was looking at him, her eyes subtly flickered with a glimmer of devise. "We're actually going to see a movie tonight, at the drive in."
"Care if we join you girls, then?" Mitchell inquires, his lips spreading to reveal a perfect smile.
"I mean, i'm fine with it." Cherry says. Her gaze crossed to Bunny and Tianna, looking for their approval.
"I'd rather you not." Bunny stated bluntly. A few of the boys exchanged skeptical glances while Cherry and Tianna shot a confused look to her. Darcie chuckled under her breath, and bit her lip while examining the reactions around her. Bunny took another sip of her Vanilla shake, ignoring the many pairs of eyes she felt on her. "But, if you pick us up at 7," she paused, placing her drink back down on the table. "It's a date."
The boys flashed goofy grins as they shared a few proud fist bumps. "You got it." Bob contributed, smirking to Cherry.
Darcie cocked her head towards Bunny, lines forming between her eyebrows as she pulled them together. A bit of amusement tugged upward at the corner of her mouth, but confusion clouded her stare. Her and Bunny locked eyes, and the blonde gave the tiniest of shrugs in response. She began to curl her lips into a proud smile, but that was quickly covered when she took another sip from her straw and broke eye contact with Darcie. The eldest girl chuckled lightly and crossed her arms, but was abruptly distracted from her thoughts when Randy decided to strike a side conversation with her.
Several minor conversations ensued within the booth, but paused once the same waitress returned with an order for the boys. Another hot-pink tray, carrying four burgers and two more shakes, was placed down, and all four boys went in for their food at once. "Thanks, Angel" Jesse quipped to the lady right before she left. He immediately took a drink from his chocolate malt, but his eyes darted over to Bunny when he felt her judgmental stare. She let out a single, loud laugh at his comment. Rolling his eyes, he set his shake aside and started eating.
"Gee, by the looks of it, it seems like you guys haven't eaten in weeks." Darcie jokes. Tianna giggles from across from her and the two girls share a wide-eyed stare, both in discomfort and amusement.
Bunny's upper lip was pulled up and her head tipped back and she looked down at them all in disgust, then sharply gestured for Tianna to move out of the booth. "Okay, we should go."
Tianna stood up and Bunny followed. The girl sighed contentedly as she smoothed the skirt of her dress while she waiting for the other two girls to file out of the the booth as well. "See you boys in a few hours." She takes Darcie's arm and hooks it around her own, then calls out, "Remember, 7:00. My place." The blonde then turns and walks towards the front door, gesturing for the remaining two girls to follow.
"And don't show up drunk." Cherry adds, lifting a thin eyebrow at the boys before turning on her heel and trailing the pair of childhood best friends.
"Please." Tianna emphasizes, prior to giving a short nod and running away to catch up to her other friends.
"I'm surprised you're letting them come." Darcie whispered to Bunny with a smirk. They stepped outside and to the parking lot, towards a particular car nearby.
"I just really didn't want to drive." Bunny responds. "Why not use them to our advantage?" she finished with a small giggle only loud enough for Darcie to hear. She unliked their arms as they approached the pink convertible parked in the spot just before them. Bunny walked over, her head held high, and swung the door open.
The corvette was polished to perfection, the sun reflecting off the pastel pink pigment and causing the car the sparkle like a fresh glass of her mother's exquisite champagne.
As Bunny plopped down in the driver's seat, she pulled down the sun visor and flipped the mirror open to check her makeup. A thin line of black eyeliner was applied to the upper waterline of her silvery eyes, and lightly drawn upwards for a soft wing effect. A light coat of mascara enhanced her long, feathery lashes, and a peach shade of eyeshadow accentuated the green undertones in her gray eyes and coordinated with the color of her dress. A natural blush highlighted her cheeks, and a single dimple marked the right side of her face.
She gripped her small handbag that hung on her shoulder and pulled out a small tube of lipgloss, then applied a clear layer to her plump lips. She smacked her lips together while forcefully stashing away the tube and handing her purse to Darcie, who had sat in the passenger's seat. "Okay," She thought aloud, fixing her golden blonde hair before closing the sun visor and turning to look at her three friends. "Ready?"
"For what, exactly?" Tianna questioned, placing a hand on the back of Bunny's seat and leaning closer to the two sitting up front.
"I figured my house, so we can get ready for tonight." Bunny clarified.
"Okay." Cherry nodded, clicking her seatbelt on.
"Okay." Bunny repeated. She took a breath to ready herself and placed both hands on the steering wheel in front of her. She paused like that for a moment, then took her hands off and looked to her friends once more. "Darcie, you sure you don't want to try out the new car?"
"No. You're stalling. Let's go." Darcie used her hand to gesture for Bunny to start driving, an amused glint in her eyes as she watched the flustered girl. Tianna and Cherry shared an inaudible laugh from the backseat.
"I am not." The blonde said, rolling her eyes and returning to her previous position. She started the car and cautiously pulled out of the lot, checking her mirrors whenever she could.
Darcie leaned back in the passenger's seat and put her feet up on the dashboard, her fingers laced behind her head.
"What-" Bunny stiffly glanced over to the girl beside her. Her mouth opened once she saw the girl's feet up, and she hesitantly took a hand off the steering wheel to hit Darcie's feet. "Get off!"
Darcie laughed at the poor girl's reaction and lowered her feet. "Sorry, sorry. I know that distracts you." She joked, nudging her friend slightly.
"You'd probably hurt yourself doing that." Bunny muttered in response, straightening up her posture and focusing back onto the road. "Probably got my car all dirty, too" she mumbled, eyeing where Darcie's feet previously laid.
"I would have to disagree with that." Darcie replied. A big smile grew on her face, highlighting the prominent apples of her cheeks. Her topaz blue eyes reflected the light of the sun similar to the ways of ocean waters. A bold line of eyeliner traced both her water lines, and a thick layer of mascara coated her lashes. Her dimpled cheeks and large, wide eyes gave an innocent look to her face. Her skin was naturally tanned, and she had thin lips with a defined cupid's bow - which were covered in a bubblegum-pink gloss. Naturally straight, light brown hair frames her face and stops a few inches below her shoulders. It was curled towards the ends, giving more volume to her locks. The nineteen-year-old wore a pair of bell-bottom jeans (that she had ripped herself) with a hot-pink t-shirt tucked in. Chunky, lace up sneakers covered her feet, and a crossbody handbag was draped over her shoulders that did not fail to exude her wealth. Darcie's clothing was in no relation to the style of her peers; it was frankly quite unimaginable for this era, but she didn't seem to give a damn.
In the back seat, Tianna Monroe sat wearing a sunshine yellow blouse perfectly tucked into a matching yellow-and-white plaid skirt that made her youthful, porcelain skin glow. White knee high socks stuck out of her golden mary-janes. Chestnut hair flowed behind her, being pushed back by the wind created by the momentum of the convertible. With her wispy fringe swept away from her face, her deep blue eyes and naturally dark lashes could be seen clearly. faint freckles dotted the bridge of her slim nose, and spread to her pink blushed cheeks. The fifteen-year-olds mouth opened and she flashed a bright white smile as she tilted her head back in laughter, enjoying the ride and refreshing breeze.
Bunny took a sudden turn to the left, catching the other girls off guard. They now moved along a narrow, two-laned street. Along the road, tall power lines stood tall, and empty lots and grass fields occupied the spaces where there were no homes or buildings.
"You know your house is the other way, right?" Cherry fretted, leaning in towards Bunny and exchanging a confused look to Tianna.
"Well, yeah. I know." The driver retorted matter-of-factly. "I decided to get gas real quick." She explained, turning to smile at the red-head but promptly bringing her attention back in front of her and gluing her eyes to the road.
"It's practically full, Bunny. I think you're good." Darcie said, glancing at the drivers dashboard to check the amount of gas.
"You never know." she shrugged. "What if it runs out on me?"
"With the distance you're driving, I doubt you would get stuck on empty." Tianna teases, taking the opportunity to poke fun at her friend.
"Oh, be quiet." Bunny said, trying to restrain the growing smile on her face. "Besides," she shakes her head. "There's a gas station here somewhere." The car accelerated as the girl noticed a little building in the distance. "The 'DX' or something..." she trailed off.
A few moments of silence passed, but was quickly broken Darcies exclamation, "Oh!" She brought a hand to her forehead. "I missed my chance to tell you earlier, but, I can't come tonight."
A loud screeching noise accompanied the abrupt stop of the car when Bunny reflexively slammed her foot down on the brake. All four girls jumped in surprise. "Oops," Bunny mumbled. She spun her head sideways to look at Darcie and exclaimed, "What?!"
A penitent smile etched across Darcie's mouth as her eyes flicked between all her friends. "Yeah, sorry." A frown replaced her smile as drew her shoulders up, prior to dropping them. "I've already got... plans."
"Since when do you ever have plans?" Bunny wondered, mirroring Darcie's frown as she started the car again and headed towards the gas station.
"Very funny" Darcie hit the blonde's arm playfully. Her mouth opened to add an explanation, but closed when Tianna spoke up.
"Didn't you suggest the drive-in?"
"I thought we'd go another night"
The pink convertible approached a small, white building with a dark wooden roof. The letters 'DX' could be read on the tall, large sign that towered over the tiny facility. The roof created an overhang where a few rundown cars sat below, begging to be fixed. A few small windows were positioned along the walls of the white structure, and a screen door stood in the middle. Three gas pumps were perched on the edge of the road, and Bunny parked right beside the nearest one.
"Bummer." she stated to the others, getting out of the car and slamming her door shut. She walked around the rear of the corvette and over to the fuel tank, pulling at the end of her peach mini dress to keep it from rising up.
The girl lifted the hatch of her corvette's filler cap and faced the gas pump. Studying the machine through curious eyes, she removed the nozzle from the side. She froze, glancing between the device held in her hand and the gas tank of her car. "I don't know what i'm doing." She sighed. She looked to her friends and asked, "How much do I need?"
"Need any help over there?" a voice interrupted.
Bunny whipped around at the sound of a male voice, and locked eyes with a pair of warm brown ones. He took a hesitant stance as he neared, cocking his head sideways to emphasize his question. His sharp features softened when he smiled, revealing a set of sparkling white teeth. Dark golden locks on the boy's head darkened a shade from the grease that slickened them away from his face. His face seemed to be both reckless and thoughtful, but his eyes displayed emotion and twinkled with comfort. He wore a blue, short-sleeved collared shirt unbuttoned and layered atop a tight-fitting white t-shirt. A pair of denim jeans reached down to his ankles and stopped just above his white sneakers.
Bunny cleared her throat. She tore her eyes away - with an unexpected difficulty - and broke the eye contact with him. She waved the nozzle around and replied, "Yeah. I don't know what i'm doing."
He let out a small chuckle as he walked over besides Bunny, reaching his arms out to take the pump from her. She stepped aside as he began filling the car. She made eye contact with Tianna, both widening their eyes to one another. Cherry watched him curiously, almost as if her mind was pondering something.
"Have we met?" She asked calmly, offering the boy a soft smile as he looked at her.
"Don't think so... Maybe you've been by here before, though." He paused, taking the nozzle out of the convertibles tank before continuing. "Name's Sodapop Curtis." He said, flashing a charming smile.
"Well that's original" Bunny snorted. She stopped herself when he turned around, wearing a suppressed amused smile and furrowed eyebrows. She couldn't tell whether he was offended or humored - not that she cared, anyways. "I like it." She nodded.
He placed the nozzle and attached it back onto the gas pump, then copied her nod. "Thank you." He let out a small laugh before spinning around and closing the hatch of the car.
"I'm Sherri Valance, but call me Cherry." The redhead stated, holding her hand out for Sodapop to shake. He did so, as the two other girls introduced themselves.
He faced Bunny again, his eyebrows raised as if suggesting for herself to give an introduction.
"Lexie Palmer." She said. "But," she paused, wrinkling her nose and looking upwards for a moment, "No one really uses that. Everyone calls me Bunny." She smiled.
"That's original." He comments, laughing at his own joke. Bunny scoffed slightly and shrugged, opening her mouth to shoot a comment back.
"Woah!" A voice interrupted from behind her. "Look at that beauty."
Another boy came through the screen door of the building, pointing to Bunny's pink corvette. He was dressed in the same uniform as Sodapop, and his brunette hair was worn in a deep side part, grease gelling it to the side. This boy had hazel eyes that conveyed a sense of fierceness and strength. His jawline was sharp and prominent, and thin lips formed an astonished expression as he examined the convertible.
"I know, right?" Bunny responded proudly. His expression hardly faltered at her comment; it seemed to go in one ear and out the other.
Bunny felt a pair of cold, judging eyes on her once those words left her mouth. The blonde twisted to the side, eyes meeting a girl seated atop a black Dodge Challenger car. She sat with one leg up and an arm resting on her knee, and she leaned against her other arm to support herself. Wild, shoulder-length, light-brown curls beautifully framed her face and shaped all around her head. Silver hoop earrings peeked out from under her wild mane. A denim jacket draped over her shoulders and she wore a white, fitted tank top, pairing it with black pants and lace up shoes. She had soft features, almost resembling a cartoon lamb; big, wide-set, amber eyes, a soft jawline, and full lips. Her gentle features disappeared as she looked at the group of Soc girls; they hardened and were becoming colder.
Bunny's silvery eyes looked straight into the other girls, but she averted them away and awkwardly brought her lips into a thin line to stop herself from smiling.
"It's new." Bunny says to the other boy, withdrawing her attention from the girl and admiring her own car.
"Is it?" The girl said with a raise of her eyebrows. She jumped off the hood of the car and slowly started making her way over to Bunny's convertible. "Mind if I check the engine? See if everything's working right, y'know?" Her eyes failed to match the wide smile that spread across her lips.
"Play nice, Candy." The second boy warned, grabbing ahold of the girls arm before she moved any closer to the corvette. Candy dramatically rolled her eyes but obliged, standing close by to Sodapop's friend.
"What the hell are Socs doing here?" She scoffed, referring to the group in third person though she stared directly at them all. She pulled a lighter and cigarette out of her jacket pocket and lit it, placing it in her mouth while her mouth began forming a smirk.
Greasers.
It finally hit Bunny once she heard Candy's words. Sure, they all looked the part, but she would have never guessed that Soda was a part of the gang due to his friendly behavior. Never in her life had she enjoyed a greaser or ever encountered a tolerable one, and she doubted that would be the case here either. He's probably only being nice because, I mean, look at us! Bunny's face began to tense up and she clenched her jaw, returning the hard stare of the Greaser girl.
"Steve, Candy, why don't you both go finish fixing the Dodger, yeah?" Sodapop suggested; his attempt of clearing the tension in the air.
Steve Randle walked by Soda and placed a baseball hat on the boys head, ruffling his hair with a quick laugh before heading towards the black car. Sodapop shoved him away playfully, fixing his hair and adjusting the hat. Candy Evans turned to follow Steve, but faltered, scrunching her face as she examined Bunny's outfit.
"What?" Bunny questioned defensively. "Take a look at your outfit before you go judging mine." She retorted, raising her head to look down upon Candy, wrinkling her nose at the sight of the girls' clothes. Her white tank top was covered in oil, probably a result of her fixing cars all day. Candy simply laughed in amusement and sauntered off to where Steve was, and got to work on the car while stirring up conversation with the boy.
Bunny let out a frustrated sigh, but was interrupted by her thoughts when Sodapop spoke. "Sorry about her. She doesn't-"
"It's cool." She asserted, a standoffish smile accompanying her words. She shifted uncomfortably while making eye contact once more. His eyes seemed genuine; they corresponded with his apology, and you could see the pity in his eyes. However, she didn't quite buy it. And she did not need to be pitied.
The blonde walked back towards the driver's seat and pulled open the door. "Bye, Sodapop." She said as she dropped down into the car, catching a whiff of fresh leather. She started the car, and gave a look to each of her friends.
"See ya round', Lexie"
Yeah, right.
She scoffed slightly and suppressed her smile when she heard her name, but said nothing in response. She pressed her foot down on the gas pedal and carefully began to pull out of the station.
"By the way," Soda called out, "You don't need to fill your gas tank till' at least half empty" He laughs cheekily, tilting his hat down in farewell.
Bunny rolled her eyes, restraining the laughter she so desperately wished to join Darcie in. Tianna and Cherry waved to Sodapop, and Bunny darted down the narrow road without a second glance.
