Alessia sat in the bus, her heart pounding as she read and re-read the text from her sister, Luciana. Come home. It was only two words, but they carried a weight that sent a surge of emotions crashing over her. Luciana was back. After months of silence, her sister had finally come home. Alessia hadn't seen Luciana since before her time in juvie, and the thought of her sister returning filled her with so much joy that it almost made her forget about the tension with her mom, Zoe.
As soon as the bus pulled up to her stop, Alessia bolted off, barely pausing to breathe. She ran down the street, her mind buzzing with anticipation. She needed to see her. Her legs ached as she sprinted toward the house, but she didn't care. All that mattered was getting to Luciana.
When Alessia reached the front door, she threw it open without hesitation. She didn't bother with a greeting to her mom, who was standing in the kitchen. All she saw was Luciana, standing in the living room with her arms open, tears already streaming down her face.
"Luciana!" Alessia choked out as she ran straight into her sister's arms, clinging to her like she'd disappear if she let go. Tears spilled down her cheeks as Luciana held her tightly, her own face wet with tears.
"I haven't seen you in so long," Alessia sobbed, her voice trembling. The relief and joy of being in her sister's arms again overwhelmed her. She felt safe, like everything bad that had happened over the past months had faded away the moment she was with Luciana.
Luciana laughed through her tears, her voice thick with emotion. "I had to come see my favorite sister, didn't I? Especially now that I'm finally out of juvie."
Alessia chuckled, wiping her eyes. "I'm your only sister."
"And that's the best part," Luciana grinned, still holding onto her tightly.
Behind them, Zoe stood near the kitchen doorway, watching the reunion with a cautious expression. "Hi, Alessia," she said softly, hoping for a response.
But Alessia didn't even look at her. She was still furious with her mother and the betrayal she felt. Ignoring Zoe completely, she turned to her sister instead. "Is your husband here too? And the kids?" she asked, her voice filled with hope.
Luciana smiled widely. "No, not yet. But guess what? I'm moving back! We're moving into a house just a block over. I came first to help get things ready, and then they're following as soon as everything's settled."
Alessia squealed, jumping up and down in excitement. "Oh my god, this is the best news ever! I wish I could stay with you guys instead."
Before Luciana could respond, Zoe cut in again, her voice strained with desperation. "Honey, I know you don't want to talk to me, and I know you don't believe me. But please... I don't want you sleeping on the streets or getting into trouble again."
Luciana, sensing the tension, gently added, "Alessia, you know we're okay with you staying with us if you want. The kids and my husband, they're all excited to see you again."
Alessia beamed at her sister, her heart soaring at the thought. "I'd love that, Luciana! You have no idea how much I've missed you all."
Zoe shifted uncomfortably, trying to keep her composure. "Alessia, I'm really sorry for everything. I know I've messed up... with the drinking, the lies. I'm sober now. I swear. Please, I need you to believe me."
Alessia's expression hardened, and she finally turned to face her mom, her voice cold. "How can I believe you? Last time I was here, I could smell the weed. Don't pretend you've changed when you haven't."
Zoe's eyes welled with tears as she nodded, not trying to hide her shame. "I know, I know. I was smoking weed. I messed up again. But I'm trying, Alessia. I really am."
Alessia's jaw tightened, and she shook her head. "I can't forgive you, Mom. Not yet."
The tension in the air was thick, and Luciana watched the exchange silently, her arm still wrapped protectively around Alessia. Before anyone could say anything else, Alessia's phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out and stared at the screen, her eyes narrowing as she read the message.
Sam LaRusso's. Fight. The text was from Tory, and a second later, she sent Sam's address.
"What the hell?" Alessia muttered under her breath, confusion setting in.
"What's up?" Luciana asked, glancing over at the phone.
Alessia looked between her sister and her mom, her mind already racing. "I don't know what's going on, but I gotta go. I'll be back later."
Without waiting for a response, she grabbed her jacket and hurried out the door, her heart still heavy from the reunion but now filled with a new sense of urgency. Something was going down, and she needed to figure out what.
Alessia burst through the door of the address Tory had sent, her heart racing as she took in the chaotic scene. The room was filled with a wild melee of bodies—punches were flying, voices were raised in anger, and the air crackled with tension. A mix of frustration and fear gripped her as she struggled to find her bearings.
Without warning, a figure from Miyagi-Do spotted her and charged forward. "Hey, you!" the guy shouted, his stance indicating his readiness for a fight. Alessia's eyes widened as she realized she was the target. She had no training in karate and felt a rush of panic.
The Miyagi-Do fighter lunged at her with a punch aimed directly at her face. Alessia tried to dodge, but his speed and precision overwhelmed her. She stumbled back, her attempts to block the blows awkward and clumsy. Her lack of experience left her vulnerable, and she struggled to keep up with his aggressive attacks.
Just as the Miyagi-Do fighter prepared to land another blow, Hawk appeared in a burst of motion. His expression was a mix of urgency and determination. He swiftly intervened, blocking the Miyagi-Do fighter's attack and countering with a series of well-executed moves. Hawk's technique was precise and effective; he disarmed the fighter and landed several controlled strikes, knocking the guy to the ground. The fighter groaned in pain but was not seriously injured.
Alessia exhaled deeply, her body trembling from the adrenaline and the effort of trying to defend herself. She looked up at Hawk with a mix of relief and gratitude. "Hawk! Thanks for coming to help."
Hawk nodded curtly, his eyes scanning her for any injuries. "Are you okay?" he asked, his tone serious.
Before Alessia could respond, another Miyagi-Do fighter sneaked up behind Hawk. Alessia's eyes widened in alarm. "Watch out!" she shouted, her voice strained with concern.
Hawk reacted instantly, spinning around with a practiced move. He delivered a powerful elbow strike to the approaching fighter's face. The impact was sharp and decisive, and the fighter crumpled to the ground, knocked out cold. Hawk turned back to Alessia, his face set in a hard line.
"I'm done with Cobra Kai," Hawk declared, his voice laced with frustration and resolve. "We need to end this fight."
Alessia's shock was evident. "Wait, really? Cobra Kai started all this?" Her voice carried a mix of disbelief and concern.
Hawk nodded firmly, his expression unwavering. "Yes. Cobra Kai is responsible for all this chaos. It's a toxic place, and we need to put a stop to it."
Understanding dawned on Alessia. "Okay, good to know. I'll make sure to steer clear of them," she said, her voice steady despite the chaos around them.
As the chaos of the fight raged around them, Alessia's eyes were glued to Demetri, who was caught in a dangerous hold. Rickenburger's triumphant shout cut through the noise. "Hey. Yo, Hawk, Alessia. Free shot!" The words barely registered before Alessia's gaze locked onto Demetri's arm, which was being pinned back.
"Hawk, don't do it," Alessia pleaded, reaching out to grab Hawk's arm. But before she could get a response, Hawk was already in motion. Her heart pounded in her chest as she watched Hawk sprint forward with unrestrained energy.
In a swift, fluid motion, Hawk leaped into the air, delivering a powerful kick that landed squarely on a guy's face. Mid-air, Hawk's momentum carried him downwards, and with an authoritative slam, he drove Rickenburger into a nearby glass table. The table shattered under the impact, sending shards of glass skittering across the floor.
"Holy shit!" Alessia exclaimed, her voice a mix of awe and excitement. She ran forward, her eyes wide with amazement. "Th— That was freakin' amazing! Like you just went woosh!" She threw her arms up in the air, mimicking the motion Hawk had made. Hawk blushed slightly, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
Alessia raised her hand, and after a brief moment of hesitation, Hawk high-fived her. The connection was brief but electric, and Hawk turned to face Demetri, who was watching with a look of cautious optimism.
"Look, man. I'm sorry. For all of it," Hawk said, his voice earnest.
Demetri stared at him in disbelief, his mouth slightly open. "Do you wanna help me win this thing?" Hawk asked, his eyes steady and hopeful.
A broad grin spread across Demetri's face. "Yeah," he said with a sense of relief and excitement. The two of them bumped fists, their camaraderie rekindled amidst the turmoil.
"Hey, boys! Look out!" Alessia shouted, her eyes catching movement behind them. The guy Hawk had kicked was back on his feet, charging forward with a furious punch. Hawk ducked under the swing, narrowly avoiding the blow. Alessia, caught off guard, found herself in the grip of the guy's vice-like arms as he attempted to pull her into a chokehold.
Desperation surged through Alessia as she kneed him hard in the groin. "Your mother should have taught you not to grab a girl like that!" Alessia shouted, her voice tinged with anger. The guy staggered back, clutching his groin and groaning in pain. Alessia took a deep breath, her eyes scanning for any further threats.
She turned to see Demetri and Hawk in the thick of the fray, delivering precise punches and kicks to the Cobra Kai members. Alessia noticed Demetri's expression softening as he fought, and she decided to address him. "Hi, Demetri! It's been awhile," she said, delivering a weak kick to an opponent who was on the verge of attacking her.
"Yeah, I don't know how to fight," Alessia admitted with a frown. Demetri, in the middle of a scuffle, punched a guy who had sneaked up behind him.
"Little late for a reunion! We can do that later. Go find Miguel!" Demetri exclaimed, his voice carrying urgency.
Alessia nodded and sprinted off towards the kitchen. She skidded to a halt when she saw Miguel engaged in a fierce exchange with Kyler. Miguel's punches were landing with precision, his face set in a determined scowl.
"Thanks for the motivation," Miguel spat out as he landed a solid blow on Kyler.
"Hi, Miguel," Alessia said shyly, remembering their last encounter with a tinge of embarrassment. Miguel looked up, his eyes widening in shock.
"Alessia? I heard you were in Cobra Kai," Miguel said, his tone laced with skepticism.
"No, I'm not a part of any of this," Alessia stammered. "I didn't know Tory was gonna do this. And I'm not officially part of Cobra Kai." Her voice trembled with uncertainty.
Miguel's expression softened, and he nodded in understanding. "Oh, I'm sorry. But you and Robby?"
Alessia shrugged, a sad smile touching her lips. "He's gonna be mad that I'm not joining."
"It'll be okay, Alessia," Miguel assured her, his tone reassuring. Alessia glanced at Miguel's battered state and felt a pang of sympathy.
"I'm sorry for punching you last time I saw you. You were right. I needed to get my life straight. I'm— I'm trying," Alessia said, her voice tinged with regret.
Miguel nodded, a faint smile on his lips. "That's good," he said, his tone warm and encouraging.
Before Alessia could say more, Hawk and Demetri arrived beside them. "We need to find Sam," Miguel stated, urgency in his voice.
"I think she and Tory are in the home dojo," Demetri suggested, his eyes scanning the area.
The four of them quickly ran outside and into the backyard, heading towards the home dojo. Inside, they found Tory and Sam in the middle of a heated confrontation. Tory's fists were clenched tightly, and Sam held a bo staff in a defensive stance.
"Guys, stop!" Miguel called out, his voice cutting through the tension. "Tory, the fight's over."
Alessia stepped forward, her tone firm. "Please, this has gotten ridiculous."
Tory's eyes flashed with defiance as she glared at Sam. "This will never be over, LaRusso. You hear me?" she snapped, her voice laced with venom.
Sam met her gaze with equal intensity. "You know where to find me," she retorted.
Tory's posture relaxed slightly as she dropped her fists, turning to face Hawk, Miguel, and Alessia. "Traitors," she said, her voice dripping with contempt as she directed her ire at Hawk and Miguel. Her eyes then flicked to Alessia. "Just wait until Robby finds out you're defending them."
Alessia frowned, her expression a mix of determination and concern. "You two better watch your backs," Tory warned, her eyes shifting between Hawk and Alessia. With one last look of disdain, she turned and walked away.
"Holy shit. That was insane," Alessia breathed out, her voice filled with disbelief and relief. The confrontation had left her stunned, but she felt a surge of adrenaline and clarity as the chaos of the evening began to settle.
A week had passed since the chaotic fight, and Alessia found herself in a room filled with recovering addicts, all gathered for their weekly meeting. The room was a modest space, with a circle of chairs arranged in the middle. Soft, ambient light from the overhead fixtures created a calming atmosphere, though Alessia felt anything but calm as she took her seat.
The group leader, a middle-aged woman named Karen, stood at the front of the room with a compassionate smile. "Alright, everyone, let's begin. Does anyone want to share today?"
Alessia took a deep breath, her heart racing as she raised her hand. "I'll go."
Karen nodded encouragingly. "Go ahead, Alessia."
Alessia stood up, her hands trembling slightly as she spoke. "Hi, I'm Alessia, and I'm an addict." She paused, glancing around the room at the supportive faces. "I've been struggling a lot lately. Robby and I... we're not speaking. We're not officially broken up, but he's been avoiding me, and I don't really know where we stand."
Her voice quivered as she continued. "It's been really hard for me to keep it together. I'm not sure if he's angry with me or if he's just trying to process things. It feels like everything is up in the air, and it's affecting me more than I want to admit."
Alessia swallowed hard, her eyes misting over. "And I've been struggling with my addiction. It's been so tempting to slip back into old habits. There are days when I feel like I'm hanging by a thread, and I'm constantly battling the urge to use. I try to stay strong, but some days are just overwhelming."
She paused, taking a shaky breath before continuing. "I thought that being out of juvie would make things easier, but it's been the opposite. The stress of everything—my relationship with Robby, the temptation to use again, and just trying to figure out where I fit in now—it's all too much sometimes."
Karen's expression was understanding as she stepped closer to Alessia. "Thank you for sharing, Alessia. It sounds like you're carrying a lot right now. It's important to remember that reaching out and talking about these struggles is a significant step toward healing. Have you found any coping strategies or support systems that help you through these tough moments?"
Alessia shook her head slightly. "Not really. I'm still trying to figure out what works for me. I've been trying to keep busy and distract myself, but it doesn't always work."
Karen nodded empathetically. "It's a process, and finding what works for you can take time. But remember, you're not alone in this. Lean on your support network, and don't be afraid to seek help when you need it. That's what we're here for."
Alessia gave a small, grateful smile, her eyes still damp. "Thank you. I just want to get better, and I hope that talking about it can help."
As the meeting continued, Alessia felt a small sense of relief. Sharing her struggles had lightened her emotional burden, if only a little. She knew the road ahead was long and fraught with challenges, but being open about her difficulties was a step in the right direction.
Alessia stepped into Miyagi-Do, her nerves palpable as she walked into the dojo. The space, filled with the hum of focused energy and the scent of fresh tatami mats, felt both inviting and intimidating. Every eye in the room turned toward her, and she could feel the weight of their stares as she approached the front.
"Hi, can— can I join Miyagi-Do?" Alessia's voice wavered slightly, betraying her anxiety.
Daniel LaRusso, Sensei LaRusso, stood beside Johnny Lawrence with a warm, welcoming smile. His eyes twinkled with genuine friendliness as he stepped forward. "Of course. We're happy to have you here. I was told you're Alessia Chavez, right?"
Alessia nodded, feeling a mix of relief and apprehension. "Yes, that's me."
"Great," Daniel said, his grin widening. "Find a spot. We're all about balance and teamwork here, so just pick a place that feels right to you."
Alessia scanned the room, her gaze landing on Sam and Miguel, who offered her encouraging smiles. She gave a shy but grateful smile back as she walked past them, making her way toward Demetri and Hawk, who stood side by side near the center.
"Hey, Alessia," Demetri greeted with a friendly nod, while Hawk gave a casual wave. Alessia took a deep breath and positioned herself between them, feeling a bit more at ease with their familiar faces nearby.
"Let's begin!" Johnny's commanding voice cut through the chatter, and the dojo fell into focused silence.
Alessia stood alongside Demetri and Hawk, her heart pounding with anticipation and a hint of nervousness. The energy in the room shifted from curiosity to determination as everyone prepared for the training session ahead. Alessia tried to focus on the instructions, her previous anxieties slowly melting away as she immersed herself in the atmosphere of camaraderie and discipline.
As the class began, Alessia felt a sense of belonging starting to take root. The rigorous drills and supportive interactions with her new teammates helped her to shift her focus away from her worries and into the practice.
