I am joining a competition to prove myself

the competition is mostly for adults and college students but why can't I join? (I am Grade 8, for your reference)

I won't lose anything if I join, I will learn something instead. of course, I really want to win money by writing that as well as adding something to 'student's awards', but the most important thing is to write what I want, that's all
