— WEDNESDAY 21ST FEB —
————————————————

... 𝐓he last thing I wanted to do was leave Alexis Lewis. The only girl who had brought out the best in me. I didn't have to fake anything around her, everything was real. She sat on her bed, talking to me the entire time I was packing my stuff away. My clothes were strewn around her room, on the floor, in her wardrobe, on the back of her vanity chair. I could tell she was thinking the exact same thing as me. It didn't matter that she was talking to me, I could see it in her eyes that something was wrong. She looked so far away, even though she was three feet away from me.

My suitcase was finally done, most of my clothes shoved in it. The ones that I hadn't packed away, I was wearing, but so was Alexis. She was wearing one of my hoodies and she looked like she was going to burst into tears at any mention that I would be gone in three hours.

I threw a shirt at her in hopes of bringing a tone of lightheartedness to the obviously saddened atmosphere. Alexis chuckled and shook her head, folding it up and putting it on the edge of her bed for me to pack away.

"Keep it." I smiled, zipping up my suitcase and sitting it upright with a grunt.

"Can you like. . . stay forever?" Alexis huffed, lying on her side and using her forearm to support her.

"I really really wish I could, Lex." I answered with genuine honesty. "But, you have to go back to school and so do I."

"Don't remind me." Alexis whined, cuddling her teddy to her chest.

I lie down behind her and wrap my arm around her waist,
my chin resting atop her head. We laid together for a while, basking in the glory and warmth of each other's company.

"I can't believe we're parents." I mumbled, stroking the head of her stuffed rabbit. My monkey toy sat on top of my suitcase.

"I should put it in my Instagram bio, 'mother of two'." Alexis joked, making me chuckle.

She turned over so that she was facing me and looked up with so much love in her eyes. No. Not love. God, get out of your own ass, Walker. She's not in love with you.

I brought my hand up to her cheek and caressed her face with care. I tilted her head up to meet mine and interlocked our lips.

They moved together with such harmony, it was like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle finally matching up. It was perfect. It was passionate. It was sweet. It was full of teenage innocence and thrill.

"Christ almighty." Harry groaned as he walked into the room. "Can you give me a warning next time?!"

"Maybe knock!" Alexis retorted, shooting him a dirty look. "And get out!"

"No can do. It's time to go." Harry said, resting his weight on the door handle. "So cut the snogging and let's get in the car."

"No." Alexis shook her head, her tone firm.

"Lexi, don't start." Harry sighed, rubbing his eyes. "I'll be waiting downstairs."

The moment he closed her door, she dove into my arms,
lying on top of me. I made a noise of surprise and put my arms around her tightly while sitting up. I heard her sniffle and I felt her skin move on my neck as she squeezed her eyes shut.

"Lex." I called out, rubbing her back soothingly. "Lex, cmon."

Alexis pulled her head away from my neck and stared at me with glossy eyes. Her arms still clung to my neck tightly.

"You've still got three hours with me." I tried to think optimistically.

"Yeah, but it takes one hour to get there, then we have to get you through security and all that bullshit!" Alexis cried out, her bottom lip trembling as she swallowed back her tears.

"Hey, shh, shh. It's okay." I laugh softly. "That's still an hour of me-time. Us-time."

"Alexis! Let's go!" Harry yelled from downstairs.

I always found it rather funny when he yelled at her but never me for things that were most definitely my fault.

ALEXIS
————————————————

... As expected, the airport was packed full of people. The end of the students half-term meant that families would be returning from their holidays and while university students went on international trips for whatever course they were taking.

The three of us were sat in the waiting area. It was the furthest that me and Harry could get before we had to leave Walker to independently board his plane. Harry was getting a drink from the bar (according to him, it was never too early for a drink), while Walker and I were cuddled together on one of the chairs.

We sat with our hips touching and my legs were crossed over his. One of his hands was rested on my thigh and the other held his phone as we shared AirPods.

There was an intense feeling of dread that went unmentioned in the air between us. It seemed like if it were spoken about, the situation would become all too real, and I wasn't ready for that. I wasn't ready for Walker to leave.

Walker had made me feel so safe in his arms and comfortable in my own skin. Our tired, slurred speech during our nightly conversations was something that used to be so foreign to me, but now, the oddest thing about going to sleep would be the lack of his presence. The lack of his warmth. The lack of him.

It made me want to burst out crying and beg on my knees for him to stay. And I had never felt that way before. Even when my sleepovers with Becky would come to an end, I wished they could continue but quickly got over that feeling. However, I couldn't get over my time with Walker coming to an end.

It shouldn't have to be this way. When you find someone that makes you feel so whole and full of positivity, they shouldn't have to be so far away. They should be right next to you, the whole time, just like you need them to be. This? This was torture.

Suddenly, the cursed voice of the intercom blurted out that they were taking last calls to Erie International Airport. Walkers ears perked up and he carefully removed the AirPod from my ear and slid them both into his case. I buried my head in his shoulder and sighed loudly.

"Lex. . ." Walker said with a tone of hesitance and and regret.

"Don't." I shook my head and swallowed thickly.

He shifted slightly and wrapped his arms around my shoulders, holding me tightly. His hand slid his phone into his back pocket and came around to cradle the back of my head, his thumb stroking the crown of my skull. His chin rested on the top of my head, moving occasionally to press a kiss to my hair.

"Please don't go." I whimpered, choking back a sob and wrapping my arms around his mid-section tighter.

"I know, but I have no choice." Walker sighed sympathetically.

He as well wanted to burst into tears, but he held back and stayed strong to comfort his girl.

"I'll see you again soon. We can facetime every day, just like before, and I'll text you in every free second I have, Lex, I promise." Walker swore, closing his eyes and looking up at the ceiling of the airport.

"But I don't want you to live so far away." I sobbed, bringing a hand up to wipe my eyes, but Walker replaced my fingers with his, soaking up my sadness. "It's not fair."

"I know, it sucks." He nods, cupping my face and tilting it to make me look up at him. "It really, really sucks."

Even in the state of her face being tear-stained and her eyes holding an insurmountable mass of devastation, he still thought she was the most beautiful girl he'd ever laid eyes upon. Her shining, electric blue eyes glistened with the emotion-filled liquids as they built up and spilled down her cheeks.

Walker brought his lips to mine in a loving and passionate kiss, but despite all its affection, it was an unfortunate goodbye kiss. We both knew this, and so we made the most of it. There was barely anyone in the waiting room, so that made it less awkward for us.

"I'll call you when I land, I promise." Walker sniffled, pecking my lips softly once more.

I nodded slowly, pressing my forehead to his skin, nestling in his neck for one final time.

He picked up his carry-on bag and looked at me with a final glance of despair before turning and walking down the tunnel, disappearing from sight.

A hand was placed on my shoulder and I automatically knew who it was. I turned around and dove into my brother's arms. Harry's hands encased me like an envelope.

He led me back to car and I sat in the front seat. My eyes were bloodshot and I faced the window. My chin was in my hand and I sniffled, wiping my waterline with the back of my hand and swallowing a cry.

Harry removed his hand from the wheel and tucked some of my hair behind my ear and stroked my head lightly.

I realised that now I was going to have to get used to being without Walker's comfort and embracive arms.
