... 𝐖hen I finally got home, I was ready to crash. My bed was so comfortable and my quilt swallowed me whole. I closed my eyes and sighed contently. My eyes shot open when my phone began vibrating on my bed side table.

I rolled over onto my side, picking up my phone and checking who was calling.

Walker.

I shot up immediately, fixing my hair and sitting against my headboard. A rush of excitement flooded through me and I had to remind myself to be normal.

My thumb swiped the white icon across, and Walkers face lit up the screen. He was outside, sat at a lunch bench. He seemed alone, but then I heard voices in the background, and I realised that he was skipping as a group. He was wearing a grey hoodie with black cargos, and it made me remember how much I wished schools in England didn't have a uniform.

"Hey." Walker grinned, propping his phone up (on his bag presumably).

"Hi." I smiled back, holding my phone on top of my knees.

"Nice uniform." He teased, taking a sip from his McDonalds cup.

"Oh shut up." I rolled my eyes playfully. "I literally just got home. Are you skipping or is it lunch?"

"Free period." Walker answered, hitting one of his friends as they tried to take some of his fries. "Stop."

I laughed slightly at the interaction, but I found myself admiring the boy who took up my entire screen. "You with your friends?" I asked dumbly. I mentally facepalmed as the question slipped from my lips.

"Yeah, but I have my AirPods in so they can't hear you. I figured you wouldn't want a bunch of strangers listening in on your shitty day." Walker shrugged as if it was the most normal thing to do, but my heart fluttered at the simple gesture. "Or I can go somewhere else if you want."

"No, no it's fine. Don't worry about it." I dismissed kindly.

"So, your demon maths teacher. What happened?" Walker took a bite out of his ketchup-dipped chicken nugget after he spoke.

I sighed at the mention of Mrs Kaur. "She's just. . . so infuriating. Like, I get it, I was on my phone, so I admit I was in the wrong for that. But I don't see how I was giving attitude when she was also being rude. And I did not damage school property. My chair hit the window, it didn't even crack! It just made a noise."

"What, you threw your chair?" Walker asked in shock.

"No, you dingus, my bag got stuck on it and my temper was already gone so I kicked the chair." I sighed, laughing as he jumped to conclusions.

"Ohhh. Well she should've been more considerate to you having a bad day. Instead of just thinking that you're being rude on purpose." Walker swallowed his chicken nugget down.

"That's what I was telling Miss Smith, but. . ." I sighed heavily. "I don't know. Some teachers are just bellends."

"They're what?" Walker laughed at the word.

"Bellends?" I repeated myself.

"Yeah, I know what a bell end is. . . I've just never heard it be used as an insult before." Walker stuttered, clearly flustered and embarrassed that he might've come across as an idiot.

"Pretty normal insult over here, Walk." I smiled at him through the phone.

His eyes got lost on my face. She was beautiful. So beautiful, it made him wonder if God really did have favourites.

"I liked that colouring you did." Walker said, referring to the under-water scene.

"Oh, yeah, I chose that one just for you." I subtly flirted.

"Yeah, you got my cousins in it!" He joked, talking about the fish and sea creatures involved in the picture.

I chuckled at his humour and let my head rest on my shoulder.

"You look really pretty." Walker blushed, a pink tint in his cheeks as he complimented me.

"Thank you." I could feel my cheeks warm up, and I had to fight back the large grin that was threatening to take over my face. "You look pretty nice yourself. That hoodie looks warm."

"Oh, yeah, I have a shirt on underneath." Walker wiped the salt crumbs on his cargos before pulling his jumper up and revealing the Led Zeppelin shirt he had on underneath.

"Led, nice. My dad likes them." I said, smiling at the shirt.

"When I come to London, remind me to bring this exact outfit."

"Why?" I furrowed my brows, confused at his request.

"Well, one, I've gotta show your dad the shirt. I have to impress my girlfriend's dad, right?" Walker smirked, pointing to himself as he explained. "And two, I'm gonna give you this hoodie."

Now I really was blushing. I didn't know if Walker could tell or not (I really hoped not) considering the only light on in my room was my purple LEDs.

Suddenly, the door front slammed shut downstairs, and all joy from my face drained.

"You alright?" Walker asked, immediately noticing the way my face fell.

I nodded my head, not wanting to make any noise, waiting to hear if an argument would break out.

"How many times do I have to tell you?!" My dad's distant voice screamed from downstairs. "I've got nothing going on with that woman! She's a work friend!"

"Maybe if you weren't such a secretive asshole, I wouldn't have to worry about you cheating on me and destroying this whole family!" My mum, Sue, screamed back.

"Oh, like you're holding us together any better!" My dad, Michael, scoffed. "Harry hasn't visited us in months! And Alexis barely comes out of her room"

"Hold on." I mumbled, putting my phone down and ignoring Walkers concerned stare. "I'll be right back." I clicked the mute button and jogged downstairs to see my parents in each other's faces again.

" And you make her feel insecure as shit because you're a bad person, and an even worse mom!" My dad finished, slamming his car keys down on the kitchen counter.

"Oh, please, it's just advice from mother to daughter, she gets it! Don't you honey?"

All attention now fell on me and I stood awkwardly in the kitchen doorframe. "Uhm. . ."

"Bullshit, 'it's just advice'! Look at her! That's your daughter! And you treat her like she's a model on a damn runway!" My dad's face was now beet red in anger.

"You constantly yelling whenever you get home doesn't make her feel any better! You scare her!" My
mum crossed her arms over her chest, trying to pin the blame on her 'husband'. "No wonder Harry was quick to leave! Bet he was so happy to get away from you!"

"Oh? Well at least he still calls me every now and then! I bet you don't even get that!" I was surprised that my dad's veins hadn't burst with the way they protruded from his skull.

"Can you both stop?!" Alexis yelled out.

"Don't go getting yourself involved!" My mum scolded, looking at me strictly.

"How are you gonna expect me to sit back and wait for your screaming matches to finish?!" I scoffed, a dry chuckle to the end of my sentence. "You wake up, you argue, you come home, you argue. You don't eat dinner together anymore. You barely even look at each other! It's like I'm stuck in the middle of your goddamn war!"

"This is an adult conversation, young lady." My mum seethed, grabbing me roughly by the arm. "You go to your room and stay up there!"

"Mom!" I exclaimed with a horror-stricken face.

No matter how angry the pair had got, they swore to never lay an aggressive hand on their children.

Without even looking back at my parents, I charged back into my room, slamming the door shut behind me. It was then that I heard Walkers laugh on the phone. It reminded me that right now, I wasn't alone.

I grabbed my AirPods and put them in. Grabbing my phone and unmuting it, I painted my best fake smile.

"Lex, are you okay?" Walker shoved his friend away as they tried to get in frame.

"Yes. . . Just. . . Just talk. Please." I begged, praying for some sound to fill my ears other than my parents bickering downstairs.

"Okay, sure." Walker nodded, agreeing with no questions asked. "Don't you think it's kinda crazy that it's like eleven in the morning for me and four in the afternoon for you?"

"Mhm." I hummed, staring at his face as he continued to ramble about anything and everything. I found myself getting lost in the beauty of his face, and the way he looked like he was sculpted by the gods.

"Hey, how did you even know when to call me?" I asked, playing with my bottom lip.

"Oh. . . um. . . " Walkers face flushed pink slightly. "I kinda have London on my clock app, so I know what time it is over there?"

"Are you joking?" I laughed in surprise, covering my mouth with my hand.

"No. . . sorry if it's weird, I can remove it if you want." Walker offered, moving to pick up his phone.

"No! No, it's" I then realised how loud I was talking, I calmed down with a small smile on my face. "It's fine. I'm actually quite flattered."

Walker grinned back at me, chuckling slightly while messing with the hood on his hoodie.

For the next hour, we continued to talk, yapping about lots of different movies and tv shows, getting a grasp of what our tastes were. It's clear we have very opposite movie tastes, as I love a good horror movie (no matter how scared I got) and Walker loves an action movie. But one thing we could bond on, was Disney.

We spent a good twenty minutes talking about the best Disney movies, and Walker shared his story about him bawling in the middle of class once when they watched Toy Story 4. I fell into a fit of laughter, though it was a valid film to cry about.

Unfortunately, our time together was cut short, as my dad stuck his head through the door and told me that it was time for dinner. I hesitantly agreed to hang up the phone, and spent the next five minutes arguing with Walker over the fact that I had to go eat, and he had to go to his Spanish lesson. Eventually, we both put our blank phones down and retreated to our needed rooms.

I shared a very awkward conversation with my dad over dinner. Turns out that my mum had left to spend the night with a friend not that either of us were complaining.

"So. . . who's Walker?" My dad asked, filling his fork with lasagne.

"Oh, just a friend." I shrugged, taking a swig of my water.

"A friend that you called for nearly two hours straight after school?" Michael teased, wiggling his eyebrows. "That's usually your nap time, Lex."

"Yeah, well. . . whatever. He's my friend." I rolled my eyes.

"He seems lovely, considering you were nonstop laughing upstairs."

The comment had caused my mind to wander back to the conversations that I had shared with Walker, and a ghostly smile appeared on my lips. "Yeah, yeah we had a few good talks."

"Hmm. . ." My dad hummed, chewing his lasagne down. "I'm sorry about your mum, Lex. She's a tough one. But, I'm trying y'know, I really am."

"I know. I know, I don't blame you." I smiled reassuringly at my dad. "She's just. . . I don't even know how to describe her."

This caused us both to snort, and we spent the rest of our dinner laughing and joking around, occasionally flicking food at each other.

That was my peace.
