IN WHICH in a surprising turn of events , avaline becerra finds herself getting closer with her crush , but knows that they can never be more than friends because sarah doesn't like girls that way .

AVALINE WAS USED TO IT ALL , THE WEIRD STARES , THE WHISPERING , THE SLURS THROWN AT HER . since coming out to her parents as a lesbian in her freshman year , her whole life had been turned upside down and she could tell that no one would ever think of her the same way again . she had lost her friends because no one wanted to associate with the gay girl , but she likes it better that way . there was a bit of comfort in being alone , there was no more negative people to cloud up her thoughts . then one day , everything changed when sarah cameron , ava's longtime crush, one of the most popular girls and the proclaimed kook princess of the outer banks , decided to talk to her , and not degrade her but actually talk to her , like she found ava interesting .

INDEED , SARAH DID FIND SOMETHING INTRUIGING ABOUT AVALINE . she knew about the bad things said about the girl , she had even said some not-so-wonderful things about the girl herself , yet , somehow , ava didn't let all those things get to her and kept her head held high . sarah respected her for that , knowing how it was to be in the receiving end of other's harsh comments . but there was something else to her , the way that she was able to come to terms with herself && be proud of who she was , even if others didn't like it . sarah herself was trying to figure out who she was && who she loved , having realized that being with girls was an option . and as she got to know ava better , she realized that there was only one girl she ever thought about that way , and that was ava herself .

so what happens when both of them have feelings for each other but they're both too scared to tell the other ?

- yeah so both sarah && ava think their feelings for each other are unrequited 

- this is a pre canon fic so u don't have to include the whole treasure hunt thing 

- so this fix could go two ways , angsty where neither of them ever say anything about their feelings and eventually , sarah gets with john b && ava is left heartbroken . or a bit fluffier where there's a bit of angst with the whole unrequited love thing but ava finally grows some confidence && tells sarah about her feelings 

- they don't immediately get together after that tho

- it takes a while before sarah asks her to be her gf 

- && they live happily ever after <3
