A/N ─ after spending far too much time on graphics, finally done with the roles! Hope people find them interesting, I tried to give some leeway with age except where it needed to be set (i.e. due to roles being related). Ages can potentially be altered later on if an OC you're interested in as a potential l/i has too wide of an age gap with your OC! They're just sort of 'set' to allow for some age diversity. Do note that with my OCs at the bottom of the chapter, the train conductor doesn't have a set role because he's really just there to keep events flowing! He can still technically have a l/i but I can't imagine anyone would want the train conductor as a l/i...

It's important for me to note that some roles have secrets which can't be known to the general audience, which is why it's imperative that once you've settled on a role, you put down the name, slot and a quote and/or their faceclaim under the 'applications' section. Or at the very least, DM me that you're interested in that role, either on Discord or Wattpad (you'll get a faster response from Discord because my Wattpad notifications are terrible). This is so I can inform you of whether that character has something you need to know or not! I'll put up the form soon and a blank Google Docs template tomorrow! :)

Finally, where the characters have set ethnicities (the only purpose being if they're related), you don't have to use a fc of that specific ethnicity as long as it's generally close. So if a character is specifically Chinese or Korean for example, any East Asian fc will do! I spent far too long on the descriptions so I hope they're not too long that no one reads them 😳

THE DETECTIVE was on the Orient Express for a reason, like every other passenger. He was on his way to Constantinople to meet his old mentor back when the man worked for Scotland Yard after his services were requested to assist in the unsolved case of the missing 'Oppenheimer Blue' jewel. THE DETECTIVE is known to be somewhat elusive, someone who is difficult to figure out at first glance, somewhat eccentric in his methods, yet precise and thorough all the same. He has a welcoming countenance, but is someone who can go very quickly from laughing and joking around to deadpanning and glaring at you, sending a chill down your spine. Unless you are a suspect in his eyes, you'll find his presence relatively comfortable and friendly, but if he happens to be wary of you, then you might just find that he becomes the personification of guilt, his eyes tracking down your every move. Some might call him overconfident, as he is well aware that he is good at his job, and doesn't shy away from being almost domineering. THE DETECTIVE knows he's good-looking, he knows he's smart, and he knows he can solve any mystery that comes his way. He sees no reason to show any shame or modesty in that sense. He stands incredibly firm in his morals, and yet, they've never truly been conflicted before. The death of Arabella might change this. Unlike the other passengers of the Orient Express, THE DETECTIVE was not acquainted with Arabella Cavendish, or any of the other passengers, until a couple of days before her murder. THE DETECTIVE won't rest until the killer is found. Can the murderer dodge the watchful gaze of an eagle?

THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST was on the Orient Express for the very same reason as THE DETECTIVE. He was also previously mentored by the same man as THE DETECTIVE, and was also requested to assist in the unsolved case of the Oppenheimer Blue. This means that he's travelling to Constantinople, coming from Lausanne where he was working on another novel case. THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST is known to be an enigma, someone who slinks in the shadows - much like his work, he goes unnoticed. His lineage is a mess, and he's always been in search of answers, a man who solves puzzles first and foremost. He's cunning, someone who can be ruthless at the best of times, but at a glance, he doesn't seem like the ideal murder suspect. After all, he's here to work with THE DETECTIVE, right? It's only natural that they'd team up when a murderer strikes. But will they? THE DETECTIVE and THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST know of each other, namely because THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST worked closely under THE DETECTIVE'S nemesis, Detective Delacroix. As such, they already get off on the wrong foot, and knowingly or not, THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST is doing what he can to conceal his potential motive for murder. What the others don't know is that THE FORENSIC SCIENTIST does in fact know Arabella Cavendish, and he knows her very well. It's his job to analyse clues and help figure out who killed her, but it's all too possible that this man whose priority is himself would rather perform a cover up. The real question is, is his connection to Arabella so precarious that he'd risk it all and kill her in cold blood?

THE BUSINESSMAN is part of the Hong Kong elite with a career in finance (he owns several properties in HK which generate revenue), although he could fool others with his sense of practicality and his dislike for all things fanciful and frilly. He came onto the Orient Express on holiday with his daughter, THE CALLIGRAPHIST, as he wanted to take her travelling given she was cooped up in their home all day and kept complaining. They are travelling the whole distance, from Paris to Istanbul. He felt it would be educational for her to immerse herself in new cultures. He divorced from her mother when she was ten years old, fifteen years ago, due to irreconcilable differences. They do not have split custody, as his ex-wife moved to America and THE CALLIGRAPHIST chose to remain in HK with her father, who she was always closer to. THE BUSINESSMAN is a pragmatic man with far more sense than the average person, his only crime being that he can be perhaps 'too' prudent. He observes things easily, and has an eye for fine details. When the murder occurs, he is one of the first to go along willingly with THE DETECTIVE's investigation. THE BUSINESSMAN knows of THE PRINCE and THE PRINCESS since he's good friends with their father, who works in the same field, although he's only briefly acquainted with THE PRINCESS. As well as employing THE MAID, he also recently employed THE GOVERNESS to assist his daughter in her continued studies, having been recommended her by a close friend. They meet for the first time on this journey. He knew Arabella Cavendish as she was the niece of one of his ex business partners ─ the business deal had fallen through after her uncle ran away with the profits. THE BUSINESSMAN isn't one for grudges, or so everyone thinks. Was his financial crisis fuel to kill?

While she is known for being one of the best in the country at calligraphy, her true passion lies with investigating crimes, only it's difficult for her to pursue such a career as a woman. She attended boarding school in England at Trinity School for Girls, though she returned to HK at eighteen years old. THE CALLIGRAPHIST is someone who is introverted, and not necessarily someone who likes to be in the spotlight, but she can be unexpectedly bold when the situation calls for it and is incredibly intelligent. She has a certain poise about her, although she's quite unaware of her own charms and has a tendency to view herself as a side character. THE CALLIGRAPHIST loves her father dearly, although there's some tension between them as he doesn't approve of her investigating things at all. She tries very hard to be a part of the investigation. She is also privately taught since her father maintains the importance of education, and THE GOVERNESS has been hired to support her in her studies. She doesn't really know anything about the woman, though she has her suspicions that THE GOVERNESS is there to stop her from getting into trouble more so than teach her. THE CALLIGRAPHIST attended boarding school with Arabella Cavendish, even though the woman was two years her senior. Rumour has it that Arabella was jealous of her and used to do anything she could to give the girl a hard time, from cutting her hair in her sleep to telling everyone THE CALLIGRAPHIST slept with a teacher. Could this murder have been the work of her inner schoolgirl seeking revenge?

THE GRAND DUCHESS was the youngest of the House on Romanov at the time of the Russian Revolution, just 9 years old when it occurred. In all likelihood, the one who has been through the worst out of everyone, her family brutally murdered before she reached double digits. Through her family's sacrifice and with the help of a guard, she escaped, and was escorted to an orphanage to lay low for the rest of her life. Ever since she turned 18 and was turned out she's been taking small jobs here and there, hoping to travel as much as possible, finding herself in Venice. Now on her way to Belgrade, Yugoslavia, she has no idea that THE PRINCE and THE PRINCESS are on the same train, both believing her to be dead. Due to all that she's been through, she carries herself with a certain arrogance, though years spent in the orphanage has mellowed her out more-regardless, she demands a certain respect, feeling she deserves it after the trials she's endured. She wouldn't have been able to afford going on the Orient Express, not without Arabella Cavendish. Arabella's own mother was patroness of the orphanage THE GRAND DUCHESS was sent to, a cruel woman like her daughter who exploited the children there. Arabella, disgusted as she was at having to interact with orphans, had often been made to accompany her mother as a young child, where she 'befriended' THE GRAND DUCHESS, though truthfully, bullied would be a more accurate description. Years later, and a letter has found its way to THE GRAND DUCHESS, insinuating that Arabella knows something, accompanied with a ticket onto the Orient Express. Perhaps it's foolish to go, but THE GRAND DUCHESS is tired of living her life running away, and it seems it's time to put this whole ordeal to rest. Perhaps in the process, she's decided Arabella Cavendish ought to be put to rest as well.

THE PRINCE is, contrary to the role name, not actually a prince, though he would've been if it weren't for the end of imperialism in Russia by the Bolsheviks. He and his family now reside in Yugoslavia, which is where THE PRINCE and his older sister, THE PRINCESS, are headed to after taking a trip to Milan. They spent most of their lives in England. THE PRINCE is very much a Golden Retriever type, someone who you can't help but love, even if he does have his dim-witted moments. He isn't the brightest (his sister inherited the brains of the family), but to his credit, he's eager and is always willing to help others. He has quite an animated personality and wears his emotions on his face, known to be a terrible liar. THE PRINCE and his sister get along decently, only due to the fact that he caters to her and it's difficult for her to stay mad at him for long. They were in Milan so she could go on a shopping spree, and he gladly tagged along since he was bored at home working under their father, learning his trade (his father deals in property). Although the family are no longer royalty, they do still have a lot of wealth and despite the trauma of the revolution, had relatively comfortable upbringings, although THE PRINCE is quite clearly his mother's favourite while THE PRINCESS is her father's daughter through and through. THE PRINCE happens to know THE BUSINESSMAN, who is a good friend of his father. The two have interacted a fair bit as the young man is on track to follow the path of his father, though his passion is for magic (for that reason, he idolises THE ESCAPIST). THE PRINCE knows Arabella Cavendish as they had had a brief fling in the summer of '33 when he was travelling in England, though things ended on a bad note when he caught her in bed with none other than his cousin. Could a broken heart be enough for this prince to resort to blood and knives?

THE MAID lives in Hong Kong, technically working under THE BUSINESSMAN, though she's specifically employed to look after his daughter. They truly are more like sisters, and funnily enough THE MAID is the more bold one of the two, far more extroverted than her mistress. She is travelling alongside THE BUSINESSMAN and his daughter to tend to the both of them, though since she's more like family she was able to sleep in the same room as THE CALLIGRAPHIST, rather than in the quarters dedicated for domestic staff. THE MAID comes from a background of hardship unlike most of the other passengers, though she shows great resilience. She has a softer appearance so people tend to make the assumption that she's timid, but she has quite a sharp tongue and is smarter than she lets on. THE MAID knows how to manipulate people if she wishes, though it's rare that she has ill will towards someone. Due to often being harassed by corrupt policemen, she's initially skeptical of THE DETECTIVE and doesn't work with him willingly. THE MAID knew of Arabella Cavendish as she falsely accused THE MAID's older brother (who works for THE BUSINESSMAN as a gardener) of stealing from her on one of her visits (as part of her uncle and THE BUSINESSMAN's dealings) when he did not, which led to him being sentenced to four years in prison. He comes out this year. Is blood truly thicker than water, enough so that the maid would be willing to spill the blood of another?

THE PRINCESS, much like THE PRINCE, was only a princess in the past. While THE PRINCE was young enough to not truly process the events of the 1917 Revolution, THE PRINCESS at nine years old remembers hearing of the news quite clearly. Her family had been in England at the time, but hearing of her extended family being brutally murdered was of course deeply traumatic for her. Like THE PRINCE, she's travelling from Milan to Belgrade, Yugoslavia, after a long shopping trip in Italy in preparation for her marriage talks. THE PRINCESS is an odd character, someone who initially comes across as haughty and spoiled, and well, to a degree, she is. She is blunt beyond belief and won't hesitate to insult someone's hairstyle or swear at them in Russian, yet at the same time, she is far more brave and resilient than most. She is perpetually unphased, and likely barely reacts to the murder at all. THE PRINCESS has been desentitised to such things from a young age, both a strength and a curse. Despite being overly 'emotional' on the surface, she actually is very logical and has no time for superstitions or crocodile tears. Her fault is being 'too' ruthless, though it has served her well throughout her life. She insults THE PRINCE a lot, but really she loves him very much and can be quite overprotective of him. THE PRINCESS attended the same school as both THE CALLIGRAPHIST and Arabella Cavendish, although she never crossed paths with THE CALLIGRAPHIST. She and Arabella, however, were in the same year group, and THE PRINCESS insists that when they were eleven Arabella stole a precious diamond from her, cutting it out from one of the family's old crowns, and believes she still has it to this day though they haven't seen each other for years. Could the remnants of royalty mean so much to a princess that she's willing to resort to murder?

THE CRIME NOVELIST is a famous author known throughout most of the world who had great success publishing several true crime series. He is travelling from Lausanne to Istanbul where he will then travel to Athens, in hopes of being inspired since he's writing a series centered around Greek mythology. He's wildly successful reaching great heights of fame, though it appears barely anyone knows about the author behind the novels. THE CRIME NOVELIST is mysterious, perhaps on brand for him, and has a rather dark countenance. He without doubt takes his coffee blank and always has a look about him as though he's just killed someone, shifty and suspicious to the max. In other words, he would be suspect number one in most people's eyes. THE CRIME NOVELIST has terrible phrasing, to the extent that he can somehow turn compliments into threats, which only adds to how people perceive him. However, no one can deny that he's devilishly handsome, although he's hidden in the shadows so much that it is quite wasted on him. THE CRIME NOVELIST always has his head in a book, and it seems that's all he can focus on, always murmuring under his breath, never at rest, it would seem. He is quite the fan of THE DETECTIVE, who has provided him with a lot of writing material over the years, and the respect seems to be mutual. THE CRIME NOVELIST is also the ex-husband of THE PSYCHIC, who he divorced for reasons only known to him ─ their marriage lasted one short year, from 1930-31. Since the divorce, THE PSYCHIC has it in for him, even though they never really loved each other ─ she was open about using him for money and he was open about only marrying her to get his parents off of his back. It was a marriage of convenience. She threatened to haunt him with evil spirits if he came near her again, but he had no idea she'd be on the train. THE CRIME NOVELIST is the older brother of Arabella Cavendish, although they are known to not be in contact with one another after their parents cut him out of the will for refusing to take on the dukedom. It is entirely possible that now he is their only child, he will be the sole inheritor. Could the money have motivated an author to kill his own sister, a crime worse than anything he's ever written?

Just as THE ACTRESS' film portrayals suggest, she is much like the femme fatale archetype, someone who knows exactly how to utilise her wiles and which buttons to push to get results. She had quite the traumatic childhood and is the epitome of a rags to riches story, now spending lavishly because she feels she deserves it, though she's very temperamental on this point. Underneath her confident and flirtatious exterior, she's quite insecure and has low self-esteem, which no one could ever possibly guess. THE ACTRESS struggles to believe she's deserving of love, and as a product of this, has been in her fair share of toxic relationships, which seem to be like a drug to her. THE ACTRESS is equally adored as she is hated, called a 'whore' by many, constantly in and out of the news for every new scandal she has. She's a very superstitious woman and has been in frequent contact with THE PSYCHIC, believing her every word. She simply idolises the woman who has been her psychic for three years and won't stand for any slander towards her. As a product of her loyalty to THE PSYCHIC, she despises THE ESCAPIST. THE ACTRESS knows of Arabella Cavendish as she was in a long-lasting affair with the woman's ex-fiancée. She justified it based on the fact that the man claimed she was evil (and he wasn't so wrong), but didn't expect that the woman would sneakily film a sex tape of her and the man who she hasn't seen for a good three years now. When threatened with the tape, could the pressure drive a good girl to kill and live up to her reputation?

He is your classic suave gentleman, much like THE ACTRESS in the sense that he's charismatic and seductive. It's no secret that his fanbase mostly consists of women, after all. He is travelling to Belgrade to perform a show, coming from Simplon, the third stop along his grand tour. While he specialises in escape acts, he does all kinds of magic, and has recently been attempting to master an act where he escapes from a locked room whilst being tightly chained to a wardrobe, although he hasn't gotten the hang of it yet. THE ESCAPIST, unlike THE ACTRESS, was born into wealth, and as the only son of his parent(s) they've never really cared what he gets up to. His inheritance is enough to retire on, if he truly wanted to, but he enjoys the thrilling feeling of putting his life on the line for no apparent reason other than to achieve fame. Speaking of fame, he cares rather a lot about his reputation, never attempting a trick until he knows he has it mastered inside and out. THE ESCAPIST is archenemies with THE PSYCHIC as he sees her as a fraud, while she sees him as a fraud because he isn't performing 'real magic'. The two of them despise one another and will insult each other whenever given the opportunity, no hesitation at all. They met ten years ago before either of them had any notoriety, and have hated each other ever since. THE ESCAPIST knew Arabella Cavendish as she was briefly one of his stage assistants, an act of rebellion on her part as it was seen as 'indecent' for someone of her class. They were good friends for a while, up until Arabella decided to double cross him and give all his profits to THE PSYCHIC. He didn't even need the money, but he was enraged on principle. On top of that, she stole his book containing the secrets to all his acts of 'magic', and if it gets out, his career will be ruined, something she knows full well. Is the feeling of freedom worth more than the life of a ruthless thief?

THE PSYCHIC is someone who claims to be able to tell fortunes, someone who holds séances in dark rooms and sells people what she calls 'enchanted gemstones'. Truthfully, it's up in the air whether she truly has any 'abilities' or not ─ is she mystical, or merely lucky? Who can tell. She boarded the Orient Express from Paris and is travelling to Sofia, where she has a special client awaiting her, though she has specifically accompanied THE ACTRESS to continue providing her services to her. While it may seem that THE PSYCHIC exploits people, she does garner some sympathy for having possibly the worst childhood of any of the passengers on board, homeless before she could reach double digits and frequently sold into hard labour, to work as an indentured servant. For THE PSYCHIC, using the 'abilities' that her mother had always told her she had seemed like the only way to escape the poverty she was trapped in. It worked like a charm and she has become a well-known psychic since, it's really up to you whether she believes she has abilities or not. Most expect THE PSYCHIC to be a rather terrifying and conventionally unattractive woman, but truthfully it's quite the opposite, and she radiates light energy more than she does dark. She's someone who is very good at reading people, and she's an excellent actress, able to mask her emotions so that you have to be extremely quick to see her genuine first reactions. She can be melodramatic, but she does this quite on purpose in order to keep up with her persona. Ex-wife of THE CRIME NOVELIST (see details in his slot). THE PSYCHIC used to have Arabella Cavendish as a client, and indeed continued to provide services to her on the Orient Express, having been employed by her over the last few months. They had built up a relationship of trust, and Arabella even supplied her with THE ESCAPIST's money in order to win over her services. Rumour has it that THE PSYCHIC is going through tough times economically despite her fame, and when Arabella refuses to pay for the last few months of extensive work, THE PSYCHIC is none too pleased and goes as far as to foretell something bad happening to her in the near future. Was it merely an empty threat, or an orchestrated prediction by a meticulous killer?

THE DOCTOR is possibly the most compassionate person on the train, someone who spends his whole life helping others, to the point where he's almost always sleep-deprived and can be seen drinking multiple coffees a day. He's a master at his work, someone widely loved in his home country, though he harbours a dark secret that no one else is aware of (up to you what this is, or I can offer suggestions. DM this to me rather than putting it in the form!). He has a rather calm countenance, and while it is hard to believe, THE DOCTOR can go completely insane under the right (or wrong) circumstances. Perhaps it's the calm before the storm, where all his built-up frustrations end up exploding. THE DOCTOR is familiar with THE RAF PILOT, as he briefly spent some time working as a doctor in the military, and the two knew each other roughly two years ago, spending a few months together. THE DOCTOR also used to treat Arabella Cavendish for one of her chronic ailments, and actually killed two birds with one stone by being able to continue to treat her on his journey. Would it have been so difficult for a doctor to kill his patient, especially when she was the only one aware of his secret? Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.

THE GOVERNESS is exactly what her role name suggests, someone hired to teach people, specialising in a range of subjects. In this case, she is here to teach THE CALLIGRAPHIST according to her father's wishes, though she is actually doing so unpaid as a favour she owed to a friend of THE BUSINESSMAN. She is travelling wherever THE BUSINESSMAN goes, though unbeknownst to him, she intends to get off at Belgrade (DM for the reason why if you're applying for this slot!). THE GOVERNESS was born into an average household financially, never really desiring wealth though she has always wanted to make an impact. She seems to have a different personality with each person she interacts with ─ she's viewed by THE BUSINESSMAN as a dull woman, your standard governess, yet to THE CALLIGRAPHIST she is an exciting woman who seems to have lived 100 different lives. This is very much intentional. THE RAF PILOT recognises her and has been on her tail constantly, with passengers witnessing whispered conversations between the two (not sounding too casual), though no one other than the two of them are aware of the reason behind it. THE GOVERNESS is largely a mystery, and is as much of an actress than THE ACTRESS herself, if not more. She's an experienced woman who seems to do very well under stressful situations, able to take charge and works very well with THE DETECTIVE. She knows of Arabella Cavendish as she briefly taught her, and that is the sole reason she is under suspicion with no one yet able to figure out a motive for her. What could she possibly be hiding, and is it serious enough to kill over?

THE RAF PILOT is exactly who people think of whenever the word 'brotherhood' comes to mind, someone beyond selfless, someone sociable who holds close his values. However, he isn't without flaw, and has been known to have been the constant subject of rumours, starting with the fact that he ran away from home at eighteen to pursue this career path. It's said that his longest relationship was a month, and this is probably true. While THE RAF PILOT can't be described to be a 'playboy', he is someone who takes life very light-heartedly, too busy going on adventures to fully commit to anything or anyone. It's only due to his broken leg that he's been forced to actually remain still for once in his life. He is very much the type to tease others, someone who you just feel embodies older brother energy, and also happens to be very out-of-pocket. THE RAF PILOT is the type of person to laugh at tragic or shocking news, not because he's heartless, but because it's the only thing he can think of to do, and he is very blunt to the point of being offensive at times. THE RAF PILOT knew both THE DOCTOR and THE GOVERNESS in advance of meeting the passengers of the Orient Express. He is someone who Arabella Cavendish obsessed over, both of their families being close friends and having known each other since childhood. The talk amongst England nobility is that he was soon to be forced into a union with her by his parents, despite hating her for being manipulative and a bully, correctly so. Is the idea of being trapped in holy matrimony with someone known to ruin lives sufficient to push someone to murder?
