ALYSSA'S NOT GOING to lie — tonight, she truly felt like a fairy princess.

It was prom night, and she felt horribly cliché saying that it had been the night she was waiting for. But who could blame her? She got to put on a pretty dress, she got to see Eli in a suit . . . like, count her in.

Sam and her had gone to countless stores, trying to find the perfect dresses. In all honesty, Sam found hers quite quick — a hot pink dress with bows that only she could manage to pull off. Alyssa had taken more time, spending hours trying on dresses. It wasn't until the very last store where she saw it hanging on the rack, sort of hidden away from the more flashy ones.

The dress was long and dark blue, decorated with silver stars from the top all the way to the bottom. It had small puffy sleeves that she wore off of her shoulders, and she paired it with some silver heels that matched the stars. Her hair was curled into loose waves that cascaded down her back. Two small front sections of her hair were braided and pinned to the back of her head with silver bobby pins while two strands were left to frame her face that was dusted lightly with natural makeup.

She smoothed down the dress with her hands, tilting her head at her reflection in the mirror. Eli and Demetri were already waiting downstairs with her little brother, having arrived just minutes before. Alyssa, however, couldn't get herself to move. For some reason, she was . . . nervous, for Eli to see her like this.

"You're going to be okay, Ally," her mother said, snapping Alyssa out of her thoughts. Selena wandered over to her, placing her hands on her shoulders and looking at the two of them through the mirror. "And you look beautiful, my girl."

Alyssa smiled softly. "Thanks, mom."

"Alyssa!" Demetri's voice complained from downstairs, making Alyssa roll her eyes. "You're taking forever! Let's go!"

"I'm going to lose it if I have to hear Demetri continue whining," Jackson added.

Alyssa sighed. "I'll be down in a minute." She met her mom's eyes again in the mirror. "I know I shouldn't give a fuck—"

"Alyssa," Selena scolded.

"—sorry, about what other people think, but . . . what if he doesn't like it?" Alyssa's voice was quiet.

"Oh, Ally, there is nothing about you that that boy doesn't like. Trust me, I've seen it your entire lives. In fact, I think he'll be just speechless." Selena squeezed her shoulders, a knowing glint in her eyes. "Also, I left you some condoms in your drawer for whatever you and Eli get up to tonight. You know, you always have to be safe."

Alyssa's face turned as pink as her hair. "Mom!"

"Oh, don't give me that," Selena stated. "I'm a nurse, and I'm definitely not oblivious to what prom night may mean." She let go of her daughter and went back towards the door. "Come down whenever you're ready."

A new wave of nervousness hit Alyssa. Could . . . that, really happen? Tonight? Not that Alyssa didn't want it to happen. There was always a new sort of energy that appeared whenever she kissed Eli. It was like after all the silence and patience, all of the pining in anticipation, something was bound to happen.

"Alyssa!" Demetri repeated, louder this time, jolting her out of her thoughts. "How long does it have to take?"

"Demetri," Eli cut in, making Alyssa's stomach erupt in butterflies just from his fucking voice. "Chill."

"I'm coming!" Alyssa called back. She took one last look in the mirror before grabbing her clutch and walking to the stairs. Alyssa picked up the skirt of her dress with the hand that was also holding her clutch while the other held onto the railing so she wouldn't fall. "Jesus Christ, you guys are impatient."

She had been looking down the entire time so she wouldn't miss a step. Alyssa looked up when she reached the bottom, only to see Eli and Demetri staring at her with wide eyes. Eli's face was also flushed a light shade of red, and Alyssa felt her face get hot for a second before she pushed it away.

"Oh, so now you shut up," Alyssa said. "If I'd had known that wearing a pretty dress made you stop talking, I would've done it a long time ago."

"Huh," Jackson commented. "Nice dress. Not bad, Ally."

She raised an eyebrow. "Not bad?"

"He means to say you look beautiful," Selena corrected. "Don't you agree, Demetri?"

Demetri blinked. "Yep. Right."

Alyssa looked at his outfit — a blazer and pants decorated with the ghosts of PacMan on top of a salmon pink button-down. "A PacMan suit. I do not expect anything less from you."

And then she turned her attention to the boy who was still looking at her in a way that made her mind spin. Eli had chosen to go a little more classic with a white button-down and black bowtie, but his blazer had little specks of silver in it to match the stars on Alyssa's dress. Alyssa felt all giddy inside as she walked up to Eli, her hands practically shaking from holding back from him.

Alyssa smiled at him, taking his face in his hands for a moment. "You look so handsome."

"Thanks," Eli replied quietly. "You look — wow, you look gorgeous, Lys."

His hand brushed across her waist. Although it wasn't on any exposed skin, it was almost like he made a mark on her — a golden tattoo.

Alyssa and Eli exchanged the corsage and boutonniere — nothing crazy, just dark blue flowers with silver accents — before her mother started to take about a million pictures. It took both Alyssa and Jackson to get their mom to stop, because Alyssa's cheeks were beginning to hurt from smiling so much.

Eli drove them to the place where their prom was being held, which wasn't far at all. They had gotten there rather quick, and Eli parked his car before helping Alyssa out of the passenger seat. The trio checked in with their tickets before going to the main room, where music was booming and people were dancing.

Demetri had sulked off almost immediately, very visibly upset that Yasmine hadn't been able to make it back since her dad was getting married in Australia. Alyssa watched him go for a second, frowning momentarily. She snuck a glance back inside, trying to decide whether to say hi to her friends in there or go with Demetri.

"I'll go with him," Eli offered, like he could read her mind. "I'm sure he'll be at one of the tables. You go in."

Alyssa looked up at him. "You sure?"

"I'm sure." Eli pressed a kiss to the top of her head, his hand brushing the small of her back. "See you in a few."

Alyssa wandered into the room. The first people she saw were Miguel and Sam, dancing with each other near the door. Alyssa grinned brightly at them and approached them.

"Well, well, well, if it isn't my favorite couple," Alyssa announced, making them both turn to her. "Sammy, I know you already sent me pictures earlier, but you look incredible."

Sam smiled wide. "And you look amazing."

"Hey, what about me?" Miguel protested.

She then gave Miguel a teasing smile. "You look all right, I guess." Alyssa let out a small laugh as Miguel rolled his eyes. "I'm kidding. You look great."

Miguel grinned. "And you look very beautiful, Ally." He glanced around for a second. "Where's Hawk?"

"Consoling Demetri," Alyssa answered. "He's a little hung up on Yas not being here right now." She then spotted another person farther back in the room. "Well, I'll leave you two it. Samantha, save me a dance later, will you?"

"Oh, absolutely," Sam immediately agreed.

Alyssa then left them behind, pushing through the crowd towards the person she had seen. Moon looked amazing as always. Her dress had a long skirt that was decorated with a pattern that just screamed Moon.

"Hi, Moon," Alyssa greeted over the music, outstretching her hand.

Moon gasped at the sight of her and took her hand, lifting it up above their heads so Alyssa could twirl herself around. "Oh my gosh, Alyssa, you look like a fairy princess!"

"Thank you." Alyssa laughed slightly as she let go of Moon's hand. "Did you go solo? No shame, just asking."

"Uh." Moon's face fell a little, maybe in panic. "Actually—"

"Hi, Ally," a very familiar voice interrupted.

Alyssa looked up. Now standing beside Moon was none other than Cam. He looked relaxed, and his bowtie was the same color mint as the top of Moon's dress.

"Hi, Cam," Alyssa voiced, quickly piecing the puzzle together. "You two are here together?"

"Yeah," Moon replied. "That . . . okay?"

Alyssa smiled — they seemed good together. "Obviously, why wouldn't it be?"

Moon visibly relaxed, and her eyes caught on something behind her. "Did you come with Eli?"

"Yeah." Alyssa glanced behind her to see Eli and Demetri standing at one of the tables in the hall. "I should probably—"

"Yeah, for sure. We'll be on the dance floor all night, don't be afraid to come find us."

Cam raised an eyebrow. "All night?"

Alyssa's eyes met Cam's. Inside was a sort of twinkle she hadn't seen before. Maybe it was towards Moon, or maybe it was knowing because of Alyssa and Eli — whatever it was, it seemed natural. Alyssa offered him a small smile and squeezed Moon's shoulder before going back towards Eli and Demetri.

On the way towards the table, she passed by Demetri and Yasmine, who had seemingly shown up out of nowhere in a red dress with a big bow on the back. Yasmine squealed at the sight of Alyssa and waved as her and Demetri went out onto the dance floor. Alyssa let out a shocked laugh and entered the hallway, the music slightly less loud than it had been before.

"Oh my goodness," Alyssa said, smiling at the sound of Eli's laugh. "He seems way happier now than she's here."

Eli couldn't tear his eyes away from her. "Understandable."

"So, you know how to dance, or what?"

"You know I absolutely do not."

Alyssa reached over and grabbed his hand, starting to pull him into the room. "Cool. Let's go figure it out, yeah?"

"I wasn't done with my punch, though," Eli protested.

"Oh, boo-hoo. You can get punch later. Besides, Eli, this is a dance. If you think I'm gonna stand by that stupid table all night, you're wrong." She turned to face him. "Here." Alyssa grabbed his other hand and put both of them on her waist. She then reached up and wound her arms around his neck. "There. Perfect."

You're perfect, Eli wanted to say, but his words seemed to fail him as he looked down at her.

The upbeat song they had been playing soon transitioned into In Your Eyes by the Weeknd. A sort of space started to form in the crowd, and Alyssa glanced around for a second, only to see Sam and Miguel on the edge of the dance floor staring at something in disbelief. Her eyebrows knit in confusion, but when she followed their gazes, she immediately saw what was wrong.

Standing in that opening was Tory Nichols and Robby Keene, wearing a cheetah print dress and a maroon suit respectively. Alyssa blinked in shock. Tory didn't really seem like the prom type, and Robby had gotten kicked out of school after what happened with Miguel, so there was really no way he could be there right now. There was an ulterior motive to this — obviously, they heard about Miguel and Sam, so they decided to be petty.

A moment of white-hot anger. She wanted to walk up to him, grab him by his stupidly styled hair, and throw him into the fucking wall. Alyssa involuntarily clasped her hands together tighter, but the feeling of a body pressed up against her shocked her out of her state.

There was a sudden realization that settled in her bones, chilling her down to her core. Alyssa slowly glanced back at Eli. Eli was staring at Robby in shock, his eyes wide and his jaw slightly clenched. After all, it was Robby who had cut off his mohawk.

"Hey," Alyssa quietly called, placing a hand on his cheek to get him to look at her. "Don't let him ruin your night."

Eli's eyes started to slide away from Alyssa to look back at at Robby.

Alyssa put her other hand on his other cheek, basically turning his head towards her for him. "No. Don't look at him, look at me."

Easier said than done. Usually, Eli couldn't keep his eyes off Alyssa. But the fact that the guy who had basically ambushed him and stripped him of something so important was standing so close to him was making his mind start to spin out of control.

Alyssa watched as Eli struggled for a moment. There was only one thing she could do to get him to really focus on her. She looked around for a moment before leaning up and brushing her lips against Eli's momentarily. It was extremely brief, but sweet all the same. Just a secret moment in a crowded room. She pulled back from him a little, only to press another kiss on the scar above his lip.

And then Eli smiled. That huge, radiant smile that she hadn't seen for a while, not ever since the incident. It made her feel weak to her knees and her heart rate speed up.

"Hey, there it is," Alyssa said, rubbing her thumb against his cheek. "I've missed that."

"I really like you, Lys," Eli admitted quietly, because he was sure if he kept that in any longer he would actually die.

She smiled softly up at him, her heart beating against her chest. "I really like you, too, E." Her thumb stopped tracing against his cheek. "I'm fucking crazy for you."

His smile widened even further, if that was possible. Eli put his arms all the way around her waist and lifted her up off the ground. Alyssa shrieked and held onto his neck tightly as he spun her around in the air, basically taking her across the dance floor. She laughed loudly over the music, and Eli laughed with her, too.

As he swept her away, they passed right in front of where Robby and Tory were trying to steal the spotlight. Their laughter and in-the-moment dancing were able to dim the dance that the Cobras had so obviously choreographed beforehand. But Alyssa and Eli were completely oblivious to this fact — they didn't care about anything in that moment except each other.

After a little while of dancing, Alyssa had gotten thirsty. Eli waited to the side for her as Alyssa went up to the bowl of punch near the entrance. She took the ladle and spooned some into her cup. Alyssa took a sip, wincing slightly — it wasn't bad, just a little too sweet.

"I'm really not surprised to see you here with him," a new voice admitted, making Alyssa freeze and her veins turn to ice. "You always had a thing for him, even when he was a Cobra, didn't you?"

Alyssa clenched her jaw and turned to her side. Standing next to her was Robby, the same person she once considered a good friend. Robby seemed perfectly calm next to her, but she could detect the venom in his voice. Her own words echoed in her head — don't let him ruin your night.

She sighed. "What do you want, Robby?"

"Oh, nothing," Robby said. He took the ladle and poured some punch in his own cup. "Just thought I'd come see how Hawk is doing, you know, after his little haircut."

Alyssa stared at him, her eyes flashing with anger — no, this was exactly what he wanted. "Eli has been doing better ever since you assaulted him, thanks for asking."

Robby's eyebrows raised. "Assault?"

"Yeah, considering you brought a whole little entourage with you to the tattoo shop, I'd consider it that." Alyssa clutched onto her cup tighter. "What, afraid you couldn't take him one on one? So that's why you made it five against one? Complete bullshit. That's the most cowardly thing ever."

"What did you just say?" Robby demanded, taking a step closer to her — probably meant to be intimidating, but Alyssa had spent enough time with Robby for it not to be.

"You heard me." Her eyes narrowed. "You're a fucking coward, Robby Keene."

"You're going to say that to me, but not your boyfriend, who went running to your dojo crying after—"

Without another word or a second thought in her mind, Alyssa tossed her cup of punch at him, right in the face. Robby gasped as the liquid hit him, and the crowd around them did so as well before falling into fits of laughter. He wiped the punch out of his eyes and stared at her incredulously.

Alyssa shrugged, an innocent look on her face. "Whoops." She tossed the cup to the side carelessly. "If you ever lay a hand on him outside of the All Valley ever again, I swear to God I will kill you."

"I'd like to see you try," Robby replied.

"Really?" Her voice lowered dangerously. "Don't underestimate the things that I will do."

And with that, Alyssa walked away from him and back to Eli, feeling a sense of satisfaction from that and the way Eli pressed a kiss to her cheek in pride.

ALYSSA SMILED GRACIOUSLY, taking Eli's outstretched hand and using it to pull herself out of the passenger seat of his car. They had stayed at the Prom a little longer until the two decided they were done, letting Demetri and Yasmine do whatever they wanted while they headed back to Alyssa's house.

She continued to hold onto Eli's hand as they walked from her driveway to the pathway of her house, the other adjusting Eli's suit jacket that he had given her for the ride home. He was just in his button-up now, his bowtie slung carelessly over his shoulder.

"You sure you don't want to go to the party?" Alyssa asked once they reached her front door — there was an after party at Stingray's house according to Bert, and although Alyssa still wasn't a party person, she would be willing to go if he wanted to.

Eli shook his head. "Nah. I'd rather spend my time with you."

Alyssa smiled gently at him before unlocking the door. The house was quiet again — her mother was working, and Jackson was staying with a friend for the night. Alyssa and Eli climbed up the stairs and into her room. She flicked on the light, shut the door behind her, and immediately took off her shoes.

"Thank God," she let out, throwing them somewhere to deal with in the morning.

Eli raised an eyebrow at her as he unbuttoned his shirt. "I thought you said they didn't hurt."

"That was before we tore up the dance floor."

Alyssa removed Eli's suit jacket from around her and let it fall to the floor with every intent to take off her dress. However, she soon stumbled into a problem. Her mother had been the one to zip her dress up, and she needed help unzipping it, and the only person who could possibly help her right now was the boy whose button-down was now completely exposing his chest and stomach.

"Hey, E?" Alyssa called, her face feeling extremely warm. "Uh . . . can you help me unzip my dress?"

"Oh," Eli voiced, wandering over to her. Alyssa turned around, taking her hair and moving it to one shoulder to make the zipper more accessible. "Sure."

Eli's left hand held onto the top of the back of her dresser while the right one went to the zipper. He gently pulled it down, and Alyssa felt the dress get looser around her as it did so. She suddenly became very aware of Eli's figure looming behind her, and goosebumps arose everywhere when his fingers ghosted her skin.

Once the zipper was all the way lowered, Alyssa took a step forwards away from him, turning around to look at him. She held onto her dress so it wouldn't fall off.

Alyssa cleared her throat. "Thanks."

"Yeah, no problem," Eli replied.

The two of them just kind of stood there. Eli with his tie gone and his shirt fully unbuttoned and Alyssa with her unzipped dress. They seemed . . . stuck. Like neither of them knew what to do or what to say.

"Uh, I don't think I told you, but your dress was beautiful," Eli admitted. "It's very . . . you."

She had no idea where the rush of confidence that she suddenly got came from, or what possessed the thought to go through her head, but . . . hell, it was Prom night, and her and Eli had actually confessed that they liked each other. This could go somewhere — if it did, she was glad it would be with him, because she didn't want to do it with anyone else.

(And his shirt being unbuttoned might have something to do with it.)

Alyssa looked up at him. "What if told you that I only bought this dress so you could take it off?"

A moment. Pining and desperately waiting. It was now or never, right?

"Alyssa," Eli said quietly.

It seemed like everything just stopped when he said her name.

She swallowed a little — maybe she had just fucked everything up, but considering the way he was looking at her, she didn't think she did. "Yeah?"

Eli's eyes flickered from her dress to her face again. "Take it off."

Alyssa wasn't so sure that she even remembered her own name in that moment anymore. Her mind was completely empty except for Eli, dress, off. So, without another word, she slipped the puffy sleeves of her dress off of her arms and let it fall to the floor, stepping to the side when it pooled at her feet.

She didn't know how she was going to feel when that happened. Alyssa always thought she would feel too exposed, or maybe insecure, but she didn't. Not with him. Never with him.

They didn't move for a moment. Eli's eyes trailed from her head to her feet, taking in the purple matching set that she had been wearing under her dress — of course it had been purple.

And then Eli stepped towards her, the air crackling between them with something new. He placed his hands on her hips, and Alyssa felt her skin immediately ignite. It was as if he had never touched her skin in her life.

He dipped his head down and kissed her. Alyssa rose up onto her toes and kissed him back, her hands pressing against the muscles of his bare stomach. His thumbs ran against the skin of her hips, and Alyssa felt a shiver run down her spine.

"Beautiful," Eli murmured against her. "So beautiful."

Alyssa trailed her hands up to the top of his shirt. She pulled it off of his shoulders, signaling that it was his turn. Not separating their lips for a second, Eli reached back and pulled off the sleeves, leaving him completely shirtless. He let it fall to the floor next to his discarded blazer.

She wound her arms around his neck, trying to get closer to him. He put his around her waist to help her do so. This skin-on-skin contact was also new, and it seemed to spark something in their minds.

Eli pulled away from her from a moment, and Alyssa's eyes slowly fluttered open. "You sure?"

Alyssa nodded at him. "I've never been more sure of anything."

Eli's throat bobbed up and down. "Do you have—"

"Mom gave me some earlier," Alyssa admitted a little breathlessly. "Said something along the lines of I'm not oblivious to what teenagers do on prom night."

Eli's eyes darkened with an emotion that she had only seen twice prior — when they had made out after the fight at the LaRusso's and when they had made out after she dyed her hair pink. This one, however, seemed stronger. It made Alyssa's mind spin impossibly fast.

Her body moved before her mind did, and she tugged him back down, re-attaching their lips. Eli chuckled against her, the vibration sending shocks throughout Alyssa.

He reached his hands down to the back of her thighs, picking her feet up off of the ground. She wrapped her legs around his waist and Eli carried her over to her bed, not stopping the kiss whatsoever. Alyssa's back hit the bedsheets, and Eli hovered over her, his hands staying on the back of her thighs.

Eli removed his lips from hers and kissed her cheek, her jaw, and down to her neck. He kissed around for a moment until he landed on the spot he knew that got her every time — right near her collarbone. Alyssa let out a blissful sigh from it all.

"What do you want, Lys?" Eli asked against her skin.

And for the first time since his mohawk was cut off, Alyssa saw him smirk — well, more so felt him. As much as she wanted to bite back, see what road that went down, there seemed to be a glimmer of his old confidence coming out right now. What kind of something would she be to not let it shine?

When she didn't answer for a beat, Eli picked his head up from her neck and let his hands fall off of her thighs onto the bedsheets. Alyssa was almost positive that she whimpered from the loss of contact, but she wasn't really thinking straight, so she didn't know for sure.

Eli stared down at her with a gaze so intense, that infuriatingly hot smirk still on his face, and Alyssa knew he was enjoying this. "Tell me what you want, Alyssa."

"You're going to make me say it?" Alyssa stated. "For real?"

"Unless you want to end it here, I need you to use your words."

Well, shit.

"You," she whispered, totally wrecked. "I want you, Eli."

Eli pressed a kiss to her jaw, just as wrecked as she was. "Was that so hard?"

"I hate you."

"Mmm-hmm."

Alyssa went to respond, but all words failed her when Eli placed multiple kisses on her jaw before trailing back down, going to the same spot where he had been earlier. Eli continued to kiss on her neck, no doubt leaving a bruise, but Alyssa honestly didn't give a fuck. She was too far gone.

His hands lifted up from her bedsheets, but instead of going back to thighs, they settled on her waist. They were only there for a second, though. Because, light as a feather, he trailed them onto her back, and then downwards, and then they slowed, until they rested on — oh. Alyssa's breath slightly hitched from the new sudden contact. It felt like she was on fire, but in the best way possible. Eli squeezed her gently, and Alyssa's head rolled over on her pillow, her eyes fluttering shut again.

"Eli," she let out, saying his name like a prayer.

"I've got you, baby," Eli promised.

And with a package taken from the box in her nightstand, Eli carved his name into Alyssa's bedpost.

Some time later, with clothes strewn across the floor and the air in her room slightly stuffy, Alyssa and Eli are found once more — much calmer this time and basking in the afterglow. Alyssa's head laid against Eli's bare chest, her eyes shut and her right hand resting against his ab muscles on his stomach. Eli's head rested against her pillow, his right arm wrapped around her bare body securely and his hand running through her locks of pink hair. Both of them had bruises littered all over their skin, and Eli had a couple of scratch marks going down his back, but they were merely beautiful reminders of what had just happened.

Eli's life had felt like an absolute nightmare lately. It was bad enough coming to a dojo where there were people he had burned so many bridges with. Slowly, they had started to let him in, and when everything started to look up, he was held down and stripped away of his identity.

But now, with this girl — his girl, the one who had forgiven him, the one who advocated for him at the dojo, the one who made him feel like he could be vulnerable around, the one who saw the best in him even in his worst times, the one who saw the truth in him even in his worst lies — laying on his chest, everything felt like a dream. He had woken up just in time, and now, waking up from the slight sleep he had just had with her by his side . . . it was absolutely inexplainable.

"I have to shower," Alyssa muttered sleepily, making Eli look down at her. "And take my makeup off. And take my hair out. Ugh."

"I mean, you don't have to," Eli responded. "We could just lay here."

"We've been laying here for half an hour. I've stalled long enough." Alyssa picked her head up off his chest and looked up at him, giving him a small smile. "We've got all night to lay here."

Eli ducked down and kissed her. "Don't go."

"I'll be fifteen minutes, tops," Alyssa promised, her words mumbled on his lips.

She pressed a quick kiss to the underside of his jaw before standing up, her messed-up hair spilling down over her shoulders. Eli rolled onto his side and propped himself up with one elbow, watching her every move as her bare body walked across her dark room. She opened up a drawer at her dresser, pulling out a matching pajama set for her and a pair of sweatpants and a shirt for him. Alyssa turned and tossed the shirt and sweatpants at him, her cheeks flushing at the way he was watching her.

"I can set out a towel if you want to shower too," Alyssa said absentmindedly, pulling the shorts on.

"With you?" Eli asked.

She gave him a look, but she pulled the shirt over her head. Alyssa stepped around the dress and suit that littered her floor and went over to the door, opening and disappearing out into the hallway. Eli sighed and looked down at the shirt, debating if he actually wanted to put it on, because the skin of her cheek against the skin of his chest was something totally indescribable.

"Well?" Alyssa questioned, peeking her head back through the doorway, making Eli's head snap up. "Are you coming or not?"

Her eyes glinting, she smiled and walked back to the bathroom.

Eli shook his head, a fond grin on his face. He was going to die. That girl was going to be the absolute death of him. Nevertheless, he stood up from the bed and pulled the sweatpants on, following after the girl who had managed to capture his heart from day one.
