prologue: the beginning of a princess

˚ : · ─── one year prior

the park family is old money rich. hanzo park, a japanese born billionaire, came from generational wealth. being the son of a billionaire, inheriting that fortune all while gathering his own money, it set him and his future family for life. he married his first wife when he was only 22 years old and together, they had his son, rico park. who was only 4 months old when his first wife tried to screw over hanzo by trying to steal his money. but that was proven futile and he divorced her, leaving her with nothing but her tarnished reputation.

and because of such betrayal, it was hard for hanzo to trust and love another woman. that is, until he met celine, his second wife and the love of his life. when he met celine, she was already a young mother. little jason was only 2 years old when celine lost her first husband to a drunk driver in seoul, south korea ( which is where they are from ). and although he was barely old enough to really remember him, celine grew wary of other people around her child. for she came from a very wealthy family, herself. but her family was nothing short of a bunch of schemers and liars. which only amplified her distrust on others before meeting hanzo.

when she did allow hanzo to get closer to her, it was the best decision of her life. she found love and a family in a man who not only shared a lot of the same experiences as her, but he was a parent, as well. so he understood her protective nature over her son. because hanzo is the same way with rico. wanting to protect his son from the evils of the world.

the two, after many years of dating and getting their children to bond together, got married in the middle of summer. the ceremony was held in tokyo, japan. under a long line of cherry blossom trees, held in a traditional style. marking the beginning of their happily ever after. they completed each other and their sons loved each other like brothers.

and although they were happy with their diverse family, the newlyweds wanted to have a child of their own. completing their family once and for all. thus, cerise park was born. the princess of the family. the beloved daughter and the apple of their eyes.

cerise, often called cher or cherry, was raised spoiled but still humbled and down to earth. which is probably why she was known to be a walking contradiction. she loved the finer things in life but she never let it rot her personality. she was always kind, sweet and not afraid to talk to anyone. no matter the status or the class they were shoved in by society. hanzo liked to say that she got her free-spirited nature from celine, who is very much the same way. but she's got her gratefulness from her father.

and it followed her all the way to outer banks, north carolina. where the family moved to in the middle of spring after hanzo moved his headquarters to the tourist town. the town that was practically on an island. surrounded by the sun, beaches and vacation spots. seemed like the perfect place to live in. and because the park family were a billion dollar family, news of their arrival spread like wildfire. because a billionaire and his family are moving to a small place was really unheard of.

"this place looks like a shitty version of the hamptons." jason mumbled, observing the passing scenery through his black sunglasses. "dad would pick the whitest place to live, wouldn't he?"

the park siblings had just arrived to outer banks a day after their parents did. jason park, the oldest of the three, was not impressed with what he saw. then again, it was always hard to impress someone like him. he's always had a craving for fun and if something didn't immediately catch his eye, he would get easily bored of it.

rico, who was driving the 1955 pure white mercedes-benz convertible, chuckled at his older brother's words. cerise, their princess baby sister, sat in the back and flipped through a magazine. all three siblings had on sunglasses.

"more like the shitty version of the oc." he added, keeping his eyes on the road.

"either way, the whitest place on earth." jason mumbled, blowing out the smoke from his lips as he puffed his cigarette. his longish black hair flowed freely through the spring air. "such a tourist trap. we should have moved to hawaii or something."

"you know how mom feels about being isolated." cerise scoffed out, closing her magazine and tossing it next to her. "besides, it's not that bad here. i think it has potential, environmentally."

"spare us the 'save the turtles, tree hugger' lecture, cher." rico groaned, rolling his eyes underneath his sunglasses. "we get it, this earth's ozone fucking sucks."

"don't forget her 'plastic kills' bullshit." jason laughed out a little, leaning his arm out of the car.

"plastic does kill and so do cigarettes, assholes." she argued, leaning over to take his cigarette and tossing it out of the car.

jason jolted up a little, watching his last cigarette being thrown out of the moving car. he turned to face his little sister with an annoyed expression on his usually stoic face. "you owe me another pack, you little brat."

cerise just rolled her eyes and picked up her magazine to read through it again. "your lungs will thank me later, jay."

"right now, they want to strangle you." he mumbled back, looking back at the view in front of him.

"calm down, you two." rico said, making the car turn into a long driveway. "we're here. let's just quickly mingle with the high society before we go home."

the mansion they were moving into was built by their father's construction team a while back. hanzo had always wanted to move to outer banks and when he purchased the old house that was there, he got it torn down and built a much bigger and better manor on top of the land. deep into figure 8. where all of the rich people of outer banks lived.

the siblings were supposed to meet with their parents at a rock party nearby. apparently, their father was meeting with old friends there and wanted them to meet them. which is where they are now.

"talk about dick measuring." jason said under his breath as rico parked his car up front. as soon as the car stopped, the siblings all began to climb out of the car.

cerise took off her black heart shaped sunglasses, dusting off her floral mini dress a little. she closed the door behind her as she surveyed the party. It was filled with yachts and crowds of people who looked like they were of high society. plain colors and white were all she saw. it looked stereotypical.

"at least we'll fit in, right?" rico joked, closing the driver's side of the door. "at least our last year of high school won't be boring."

"please, with these white people?" jason scoffed out, leaning against the car door. "their definition of fun is golfing and looking down on people."

"don't you do one of those things already?" cerise asked, looking at him with one eyebrow arched.

"yes, but unlike them, i can admit i do it." he replied, poking her nose a little. "i never claimed to be a nice person or all the way on earth."

rico rolled his eyes, biting back a chuckle while cerise just shook her head at him. just before they could walk to the entrance of the dock party, a voice from across the way stopped them.

"nice ride, man." it said, causing all three siblings to stop and turned to where the voice was coming from. the guy looked about jason's age. maybe rico's age. brown hair, light eyes and dress preppy. he was with two other guys as they were hanging out around his car across the way.

"thanks." rico replied back, giving him a ghost of a smirk.

"is it a...vintage?" he asked again, nodding to his car. "mercedes-benz?"

"1955." rico confirmed, taking off his sunglasses and placing them in his pocket. "mint condition."

the guy nodded in appreciation, giving him an appreciative smirk. "it's nice. i like it."

jason bit back a chuckle while rico twitched his eyebrows up a little, pursing his lip. he gave him a quick wave before turning to leave. "thanks, man." he said before turning to leave. jason gave them one last look before following as cerise politely waved bye to them.

"making friends with the local preps, rico?" jason joked, shoving his shoulder a little as the three made their way to the entrance of their new home. "you'll fit in just fine."

"fuck off, jay." rico shoved him back.

"nice of you three to finally join us." celine said as she spotted her children entering the party amongst the huge crowd. sunglasses rested over her eyes, matching her nude colored dress.

"would've been here sooner but rico's bladder is weaker than plastic." jason said, kissing his mother on her cheek. "is dad home?"

"he's near the boats right now." she replied, kissing her other son's cheek and hugging her daughter. "he wants us to meet his old colleagues so I expect you three to be on your best behavior."

"of course, mom." rico smiled mischievously. "wouldn't dream of embarrassing dad."

"i mean it, rico." celine said pointedly, knowing how mischievous rico could be. "no funny business."

"i know, mom" he playfully groaned, earning a hair ruffle from jason. which made him shove his hand away.

"don't worry, mom." jason said, circling his arm around his mother. "i'll keep him grounded."

"that somehow does not comfort me." celine joked as she lead them to where hanzo was.

"don't worry, mom." cerise reassured her with a small smile. "i'll make sure they stay in line."

celine laughed a little, planting a kiss on her temple. jason and rico both looked at her incredulously. "you do know that we're the older brothers, right?"

"doesn't mean you're mature enough." cerise shot back.

"alright, alright." celine stopped their oncoming banters as they got anyone. "smiles, everyone. we have to be on our best behavior."

"there they are." hanzo greeted his family warmly as they made their way towards him. bright smile and everything. "what took you so long?"

"we would have been here sooner. but rico has a weak bladder." jason joked as he hugged his father. his words caused him to chuckle.

rico, not appreciating the joke, glared at jason behind his back before turning his attention to his father. "hey dad."

"hi, daddy." cerise greeted him as he gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"kids, i would like for you to meet an old friend of mine." he said, ushering them to his friend and his wife. "ah! ward! come meet my family!"

this ward guy was around the same height as hanzo. his hair was short with streaks of grey hair mixed in, as well as his facial hair. he immediately smiled at hanzo as he walked over to him with a blonde lady by his side.

"kids, i would like you to meet my kids." hanzo said, placing his hands on both of his sons shoulders. "these are my sons, jason and rico. and this is my daughter, cerise."

"lovely family, you have." ward said with a welcoming smile. "your father has told us a lot about you. my name is ward cameron and this is my wife, rose cameron."

"very nice to finally meet you all." rose added with her own prize winning smile. "we actually have a daughter the same age as cerise and rafe is around the same age as you, jason."

"lovely." jason mumbled under his breath sarcastically, causing celine to discreetly nudge him. causing him to quickly stay quiet.

the siblings all looked at each other with expectant looks. jason held back a chuckle while rico rolled his eyes. cerise pursed her lips, silently hoping this move wasn't a mistake.
