"Dustin, is this even a good idea? I mean, should we ask the party to come with us?" Scout asked as she walked through the mall with Dustin the next morning.
"We tried that yesterday, remember? They don't want to be apart of us! Just you and me, cousin." he said while throwing a arm around her as they entered Scoops Ahoy again.
"Hi, i'm Dustin." Dustin said as he smiled at Robin.
"I'm Robin." she said back to him with a akward grin.
"Pleasure to meet you ugh, is he here?" Dustin questioned as Scout slapped her forehead.
"Is who here?" Robin questioned before the door swung open as Steve smiled widely.
"Henderson!" Steve explained in shock.
"This will go on a while." Scout spoke as she jumped up on the counter and turned to jump in the back by Robins side.
"You got the job!" Dustin explained as he pointed to the ice cream shop.
"I got the job!" Steve explained while the two did their weird hand shake they refused to let Scout learn.
"How many children are you friends with?" Robin questioned with a eyebrow raise.
"Not enough, most of my friends are teenagers now actually because i'm a teenager and I don't mind it, just wish I didn't have so many mood swings and get pimples on my forehead. I mean, i've got Will. But Mike and El are always busy kissing and being what they call romantic while Max and Lucas are busy breaking up every two seconds and going to the arcade and you can clearly see how Dustin spends his time and I-" Scout began to ramble before Dustin cut her off.
"Ugh, I think she was talking to Steve." He said as Scout raised a eyebrow as Robin nodded her head with a small smile.
"Oh, oh yeah right. Right, that makes so much more sense. All that was a complete misunderstanding, I have friends my age! Definitely have friends my age." Scout laughed awkwardly before shutting herself up by shoving a hand full of sprinkles into her mouth.
"You and Dustin are cousin?" Robin asked as she scooped cones a few minutes later while Steve took five to talk with Dustin.
"Well, third cousins but yes." she nodded while swinging her legs back and forth. She was proud of her outfit today was was waiting for someone to complement her on it. The yellow and black plaid pants paired with a yellow tank that had a butterfly on the front and topped off with yellow eyeliner and combat boots was definitely one of her best looks yet.
"And you're other friends are..." Robin trialed off as Scout rolled her eyes.
"Abandoning us for their so called better lives. Dustin tried to get in contact with his new girlfriend Suzie, that looks like Phebee Kates, but they all left by nine o'clock. I mean, nine? Seriously, what are they gonna be doing at nine? I know what I would be doing, dancing around to Madonna and picking out extremely awesome outfits that I happen to expect more than just my guardian angle to compliment me on." Scout said as she swung her legs back and forth innocently and waiting for Robin to complement her.
"It's a nice outfit." Robin said to her with a laugh as Scout smiled.
"Lady pirates right, got any pretzels today?" Tate asked as he approached the shop and leaned on the counter.
"For the last time, we only sale ice cream." Robin said as Tate glanced back at Scout before pulling his eyes away the second their eyes met.
"So you're telling me every other shops sales pretzels but this one doesn't? Sounds like a load of bullshit to me." he explained as Robin sighed, making Scout jump off the counter.
"If every other shop has what you're looking for then why do you keep coming back here?" she questioned him with annoyance in her voice as she leaned on the counter to look at him.
"Proving a point I guess." he smirked while looking at her, Scout groaned.
"You know what, lets go. Come on." She said while rounded the corner and grabbing his elbow.
"Where are we going?" he asked her as she rolled her eyes.
"To get a pretzel so you'll leave my older friend Robin alone." she said with a eye roll, pulling him into the line and ordering two pretzels.
"Whats your deal anyways? I thought you had to go do that juvie thing this summer?" Scout asked as her and Tate ended up sitting at one of the tables together.
"I did, it was only a couple weeks just to scare me." he explained with a shrug, pushing the packaged hot cheese around that wasn't opened.
"Did it?" Scout asked curiously.
"Did it what?" he questioned while looking up to meet her shiny eyes across the table.
"Scare you, I mean." she explained as he leaned back on the table, resting one of his arms on the chair.
"Nope, i'm good." he explained with a shrug and a faint smirk rested on his face, pissing her off.
"You're unbelievably." she explained with a glare, also throwing herself back in her chair.
"Oh i'm unbelievably?" he asked her with a chuckle as she nodded.
"Completely! I mean, do you want to screw up your future more than you already have?" she asked as Tate glared at her.
"Screw you Scout, it's not any of your business." he argued as she laughed sarcastically.
"It's really not but god forbid that I try and help you." she explained with a insane look.
"I'm not another charity case for you to tutor and get praise for once they pass a test, you don't even know me." Tate shot at her, recalling all the times she tutored his friends.
"It looks hella good on college application because i'm actually trying to have a good future unlike some people." Scout said back while standing up and walking off, hearing him stand and run after her.
"Right, you never let anyone forget that one. Not that i'm not but how would you know if I was messing up my future? I don't go around telling everyone and looking like some stuck up priss who thinks she's better then everyone." Tate said to her, venom and hate laced with each word he said.
"Oh so i'm a stuck up priss now? Because i'm trying to help you? That makes a whole lotta sense now. I mean, woah lets give Tate Perez a award." Scout said sarcastically as she began to clap for him, both of them ignoring the couple of people around them who started to pay close attention.
"Piss off Scout, it's not any of your concern in the first place." He said as Scout nodded.
"You're right, it's not snd I really don't care. So go ahead and go off, break some laws or skip summer school I know you definitely got into." Scout explained while pretending to wave him off as Tate scoffed at her.
"You know you'd be real cute if you shut your mouth half the time." he explained to her while Scout simple rolled her eyes and walked away, leaving Tate to glare at everyone who was watching the two before storming off.
"What was all that about?" Robin questioned as Scout walked back into the shop.
"I hate Tate more then I hate anything else in this world." Scout said with a annoyed look. Her face was instantly red from the angry, the arguing, the embarrassment, but also for how close they were when they argued. And she couldn't stand the way she felt when they were close.
"What's all that about anyway? This is like the third time they got all up in each other's face like that." Steve asked Dustin as they looked over after Dustin explained he needed help with Russian.
"Long and very weird story." Dustin explained as Steve looked to him, wanting answered.
"Summer of 84, they kissed in a game of spin the bottle. Tension high ever sense, you do not wanna be stuck in a group project with those two." Dustin explained as Steve frowned his eyebrows in confusion but nodded anyway.
