OAFCU pt. 3

Hello and welcome to the final installment of connecting the OAFCU (oil apply fic cinematic universe) to taylor songs! I unfortunately at this time don't think I'm going to do the Perverse characters, just because I was struggling pretty bad to pick songs out for a couple of them, but I may come back and do it later! I will reveal some that I am certain of in case anyone is curious, though (Barry is Mastermind, Kaia is My Tears Ricochet, and Este is obviously no body, no crime). so, enjoy my other connections! (or ignore this if you did not want the tag)

Defeatism

1. Galilee Larsen by curiosityanddreams:

Song: tolerate it

Line that makes me think of her: I wait by the door like I'm just a kid, Use my best colors for your portrait, Lay the table with the fancy shit, And watch you tolerate it, If it's all in my head, tell me now, Tell me I've got it wrong somehow, I know my love should be celebrated, But you tolerate it

Explanation: While this song is specifically about being taken for granted in a relationship with an older person, I think it applies to Galilee in a more broad sense. No one celebrates her the way that they should. She does her best, she gives it her all. She tries for the students on her floor and for the other RAs, and she seems to be just tolerated (or at times disrespected, like Jerry mentioned). I think the scene with her washing the wine glass really shows this. In her head, she's questioning why she isn't accepted by the others the way she should be, why she only seems to matter to them when she does something that benefits them, and it's really sad to read. Not to mention her parents! Anything outside of the vlog seems to be meaningless to them, no matter how hard she tries. This girl just keeps trying her best, and her love is not being celebrated the way she deserves.

2. Elodie Daniels by me:

Song: champagne problems

Line that makes me think of her: Because I dropped your hand while dancing, Left you out there standing, Crestfallen on the landing, Champagne problems and "She would've made such a lovely bride, What a shame she's fucked in the head," they said, But you'll find the real thing instead, She'll patch up your tapestry that I shred

Explanation: Elodie is this girl who is breaking hearts both platonically and romantically because of her own inner struggles with intimacy and love. I know this song is very specifically about a ruined proposal, but I think that speaks to Elodie. Taylor Swift says that this song tells the story of a girl who prepares to meet up with her boyfriend and break up with him while he plans to propose, and that is just so Elodie. To be so clueless that that is coming, to have someone love you that much and not see it coming, that's Elodie. Plus the "what a shame she's fucked in the head" line, I mean come on. People know she's charming and pretty and likable, so no one can understand what her attachment issues are. I don't know, I think this is a song that Elodie would listen to and cry once she's come to terms with the fact that her life has left her screwed up and she does hurt people. (on a lighter note, I think Blank Space also fits in a funny way)

3. Tempest Morgan by ceaseless-watchr

Song: Would've, Could've, Should've

Line that makes me think of her: Ooh, oh, You're a crisis of my faith, Would've, could've, should've, If I'd only played it safe and God rest my soul, I miss who I used to be, The tomb won't close, stained glass windows in my mind, I regret you all the time and Give me back my girlhood, it was mine first

Explanation: If I'm being honest, the entire song makes me think of her. It is packed with all this religious imagery, which really lends to her. Then it also has this storyline of a girl being ruined by someone and how it makes her question her faith and question the ways he changed her and all of these things. Like, this is Tempest and the man who got her pregnant. Like the line that's like "If you'd never looked my way, I would've stayed on my knees, and I damn sure never would've danced with the devil" Like saying that she would've continued praying and she wouldn't be changed the way he changed her. Dancing with the devil!! I can see the tiktok edits now of Tempest to this song, it's just a perfect fit.

4. Jerry Winnerson by captain_sharrie:

Song: The Great War

Line that makes me think of him: Spineless in my tomb of silence, Tore your banners down, took the battle underground and It turned into something bigger, Somewhere in the haze, got a sense I'd been betrayed

Explanation: While this song as a whole is about a near break up due to the narrator not trusting their partner due to being hurt in the past, my silly little brain found a way to connect it to Jerry. He seems to have this fear that people always have this bad ulterior motive, so he keeps himself closed off and as his creator wrote, if someone tries to talk to him he thinks they have this "sinister ulterior motive." In that way I think this song fits him, he's always on the defense and ready to assume the worst. Additionally, spineless in my tomb of silence? that's a fucking bar and I love connecting it to Jerry.

5. Marcellus Singh by golden-rebel:

Song: Style

Line that makes me think of him: You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye, And I got that red lip classic thing that you like, And when we go crashing down, we come back every time

Explanation: I needed a fun, upbeat song for Marcellus. I just had too. While he is complex and multifaceted and I could have gone a sad route, I didn't want to. He's the party boy! Doesn't care about commitment boy! Just gonna party, drink, and play video games guy! I chose this song specifically because it's all about just two people hooking up despite the fact that they're a dumpster fire together, and I think that's pretty fitting for Marcellus and the relationships I imagine he has. Plus, he is this attractive charming-in-a-weird-way guy, so I think the James Dean bit fits him.

6. Maverick Santiago by cryptidminds:

Song: Stay Stay Stay

Line that makes me think of him: I was expecting some dramatic turn away, But you stayed, This morning I said we should talk about it, 'Cause I read you should never leave a fight unresolved, That's when you came in wearing a football helmet, And said, "Okay, let's talk" and You took the time to memorize me, My fears, my hopes and dreams, I just like hanging out with you, All the time

Explanation: Okay. I know this song has some... questionable... lyrics. (And I love you because you have given me no choice?? you think that it's funny when I'm mad? I threw my phone across the room at you?) BUT! Hear me out. I have been obsessed with this song since I was little and it first came out, because I was young and dumb and didn't read too much into it, and I just thought it was so perfect and fun. Like this is just a silly little song, and Maverick is just a silly little guy. At the core of it, I think there are a lot of ways it relates to Maverick. Can I imagine him walking in to talk to his partner wearing a football helmet? Absolutely. Can I imagine him carrying his partner's groceries and always making them laugh? Absolutely. Do I imagine he'd memorize all the little things about his partner and they would just enjoy each others company? ABSOLUTELY. I rest my case, your honor.

7. Damien "Darlington" Arlington by blythering:

Song: The Way I Loved You

Line that makes me think of him: He is sensible and so incredible, And all my single friends are jealous, He says everything I need to hear, and it's like, I couldn't ask for anything better, He opens up my door and I get into his car, And he says, "You look beautiful tonight", And I feel perfectly fine

Explanation: Oof. I'm sorry Darlington. Unfortunately, I see him as the guy that Taylor is dating, and not the wild guy she is daydreaming about. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, considering the other guy sounds toxic af. But all the descriptions Taylor gives of her current boyfriend just SCREAM Darlington to me. Sensible, incredible, close to her mother, talks business with her father. That IS Darlington, he IS that guy. He's a stark contrast to the wild fun guy, like Marcellus or Maverick. Which isn't a bad thing! But if you listen to this song and think about the other guy, rather than the one Taylor is missing, you'll think of Darlington.

8. Miana "Moonie" Saintin by a user whose account is deactivated:

Song: Teardrops On My Guitar

Line that makes me think of her: He's the reason for the teardrops on my guitar, The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star, He's the song in the car I keep singing, don't know why I do

Explanation: With some of these connections, I just feel like I strike gold. This is one of those connections. Sweet Moonie! Literally just a lovestruck, hopeless romantic, angel. This is their song. I'm sure at some point while they were crying over the Darlington/Maverick situation, they listened to this song and sobbed harder. It has so many lines about looking at this guy and wondering why he can't see, and that's so Moonie. Wishing on a wishing star! The hope of it all! That's so Moonie. They're prone to heartbreak, and this is a heartbreak song.

9. Benedict Altwell by inkandebonywords:

Song: evermore

Line that makes me think of him: Gray November, I've been down since July, Motion capture, Put me in a bad light

Explanation: I think it's the sadness of this song that makes me think of Benedict. Also the softness and subtlety to it. That just screams Benedict to me. Not to mention, this song is extremely beautiful and I personally feel like it has some really intelligent lyrics, so that just makes me think of Benedict too. There's a line it about trying to rewind the tapes to pinpoint where everything went wrong, and I think of Benedict with that too. I feel like he has this guilt and question about why can't he fit in or make friends, and he would question at what point in his life did something happen to set him on this course, you know? I don't know, but this is a beautiful song and I think its a close enough fit.

10. Calypso "Callie" Romano by ladyqueenish

Song: New Romantics

Line that makes me think of her: 'Cause baby, I could build a castle, Out of all the bricks they threw at me, And every day is like a battle, But every night with us is like a dream

Explanation: I wanted something upbeat for Callie, because I simply love her with my whole heart, and I think she fits an upbeat song. I chose this one specifically due to her backstory. She didn't fit in with her family, so she took off. She's a dreamer and an artist, and they're not. She's still fighting in college to just get by (every day is like a battle) but in some ways she's won and is free just by getting away in the first place (but every night with us is like a dream). This one makes sense to me, at least.

11. Romina Di'Astolla by Splenxst:

Song: It's Nice To Have a Friend

Line that makes me think of her: just the whole first verse

Explanation: This isn't one of my slam dunk ones, but I can explain. Ro has the whole intimidating, rbf thing going on, but when she's close to someone and comfortable, she's basically just like a child again. This song is sung in short, simple lines that start in a very child-like way, and that just makes me think of her. Like its to the point like her and I feel like it fits in the sense that like when she finds someone that fits, it's nice. I also just think the melody and the vibe are kind of mysterious (maybe I only think that because this song was used in a horror movie trailer lol) but she gives me that. I don't know, it makes sense to me.

perhaps I will one day do perverse, perhaps I will not, but thank you all for joining me on this journey :)
