This is literally the most ADHD thing I have ever done (especially considering there are much more effective ways I could be spending my time, like idk doing laundry or cleaning or something lmao), I thought about doing this like a month ago, then forgot about it, then fell down a rabbit hole of watching people on youtube react to Taylor Swift's albums for the first time and here I am again. 

Basically, I am going to go through the Oil Apply Fit Cinematic Universe characters and assign Taylor Swift songs to them. Please tell me if you agree or disagree! Also will be tagging each character's creator, so sorry if you do not care about this and it annoys you! Please disregard then!

I will probably split this up into parts because I am not insane and cannot do all of these stories characters all at once.

Starting off strong with where it all started:

ARCANE

1. Thea Davis by curiosityanddreams 

Song: Dorothea. 

Line that makes me think of her: Ooh, This place is the same as it ever was, Ooh, But you don't like it that way

Explanation: I think this is possibly inspired by the fact that her name is literally Dorothea, but I also just think it fits her in a way. Song!Dorothea ran off to be famous and she is well loved by all, but it is told in the perspective of someone who truly knows her, and idk I just can see Eden hearing this song and thinking of her. To him she's wild and beautiful and he's always going to be waiting there for her if she wants to come back around.

2. Percy Coleman by burnindesires (who I believe is no longer active): 

Song: Antihero. 

Line that makes me think of her: I should not be left to my own devices, They come with prices and vices, I end up in crisis (tale as old as time)

Explanation: Percy was so rough and hard on the outside. At times she was mean, even. But underneath it she cared a lot (I mean, come on, the girl dedicated decades to killing centuries old people just so she could be with Hope and the rest of her found family). I get the sense that Percy has this armor up to protect herself and she makes a lot of bad decisions and hates it, but you can't help but root for her and love her still.

3. Erik Crossford by weavability (who I believe is also no longer active):

Song: this is me trying

Line that makes me think of him: They told me all of my cages were mental, So I got wasted like all my potential, And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad, I have a lot of regrets about that

Explanation: Has anyone in the OAFCU tried quite like Erik? He was dealt such a rough hand, but in his own way he was always trying to overcome it all. He came to love the others, so much so that he was willing to hunt and kill for them in the end. Despite his mistakes, that was him trying. Plus! The line "And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad, I have a lot of regrets about that." Come on. Tell me right now that line wasn't made for the scene with him and Wesley.

4. Eden Connor by a user who has since deleted their account:

Song: I'm Only Me When I'm With You

Line that makes me think of him: Just a small-town boy and girl, Living in the crazy world, Trying to figure out what is and isn't true, And I don't try to hide my tears, My secrets or my deepest fears, Through it all nobody gets me like you do

Explanation: While this could be the song that makes me think of both Eden and Cara together, I chose it because I think as a whole it just really fits him specifically. Like, Cara was never someone different around different people, she was always herself, whereas Eden was only true to himself around Cara and the others, especially as the book went on. I think he really resonated with the idea of only allowing himself to be authentic in the company of people he trusted.

5. Wesley Ferns by cryptidminds

Song: Dancing With Our Hands Tied

Line that makes me think of him: My, my love had been frozen, Deep blue, but you painted me golden and So, baby, can we dance, Oh, through an avalanche? And say, say that we got it, I'm a mess, but I'm the mess that you wanted

Explanation: While I think that there's an argument to be made that this song represents both Wesley and Jamie as a couple, I'm seeing it more as just Wesley's perspective. Taylor wrote it about her baggage and how she felt she could never have a normal relationship because of her life. It is at times deeply self deprecating and sad, and I think that speaks to Wesley and who he became with Jamie at his side. Wesley was cold and slytherin-y and he couldn't imagine Jamie (or anyone) wanting to deal with that. I don't know, I just see him relating to this song. (Also, I had to pick a reputation song for him. He would love reputation.)

6. Lee Hayde by_callmeRae:

Song: The Outside

Line that makes me think of her: How can I ever try to be better? Nobody ever let's me in, And I can still see you, this ain't the best view, On the outside looking in

Explanation: Lee's storyline is one of the most tragic in the book, in my opinion. She always seemed to be on the outside of the group, her stoicism and flatness betraying her and isolating her from the others. As the creator put in their application, while she often seemed pissed off and angry, she was really deeply unsure of herself and her place in the world. I don't know, poor Lee :(

7. Cara Nightly by clovdynova (who also no longer appears to be active):

Song: it's time to go

Line that makes me think of her: Sometimes giving up is the strong thing, Sometimes to run is the brave thing, Sometimes walking out is the one thing, That will find you the right thing

Explanation: Cara was for all intents and purposes, their leader. While I think she thought of herself as timid and a nerd, she was usually the bravest of them all (think of her showing up to Eden's football game, the Ferris wheel scene, or her choice in the end). She always knew what choice she was meant to make and she stuck by it, even when it was hard. She was the one who knew when it was time for them to part ways and she used all of her restraint to stay away, even when the others met up. "Sometimes to run is the brave thing" is right for her. She ran from her family, whom she loved deeply, and from her found family, whom she also loved deeply. She was brave and wonderful and I miss her.

8. Jamie Teller by me:

Song: Stay Beautiful

Line that makes me think of him: You're beautiful, Every little piece, love; don't you know? You're really gonna be someone, Ask anyone

Explanation: Do I really have to explain? Jamie is beautiful, and not just in a physical sense! Unfortunately, he tends not to see that. He could ask any of them, he was loved by all, but he never saw much in himself. I think he should be forced to listen to this song on repeat, just as a little reminder :)

9. Hope Thomas by Blind_Optimistic (who also no longer appears to be active):

Song: the lakes

Line that makes me think of her: I want auroras and sad prose, I want to watch wisteria grow right over my bare feet, 'Cause I haven't moved in years, And I want you right here (and also just the whole chorus tbh)

Explanation: duh. Hope is our sad timid artsy little writer girl. She never belonged in that town. She didn't belong locked up in her father's big home. I can only imagine Hope in the woods, running barefoot near a lake. That seems to be her element, in my mind. I also think she'd love to have Percy there beside her. She was a poet, a romantic, through and through. This just is her song, there is no debate.

Uprise

1. Edison Darby by curiosityanddreams:

Song: Innocent

Line that makes me think of him: Time turns flames to embers, You'll have new Septembers, Everyone of us has messed up too, ooh, ooh, Minds change like the weather, I hope you remember, Today is never too late to be brand new

Explanation: While Edison was a bit of an elitist, he had roots in the lower class. He made bad decisions in the experiment, he went along with bad people, but I don't think that truly spoke to who he was. I think we see that too, in the end. Noah believed there was good in him, and I do too. In both endings that Oil released, I think he deserved a second chance.

2. Reagan Calloway by cryptidminds:

Song: Tied Together With a Smile

Line that makes me think of him: Hold on, baby; you're losing it, The water's high, you're jumping into it, And letting go, and no one knows, That you cry; but you don't tell anyone, That you might not be the golden one, And you're tied together with a smile, But you're coming undone (so literally just the entire chorus)

Explanation: Regan was always trying to be the sunshine, the golden one, for everyone else, while simultaneously really struggling. Obviously they all were under a lot of stress given the circumstances, but I do think he was slowly coming undone throughout the book. Also! even in Tal's application, they mention how he breaks down and cries in private, so like literally this song.

3. Wren Montgomery by me:

Song: Super Rich Kids by Frank Ocean (jk obviously not a Taylor song, but his character was literally molded after that song when I created him so had to shout it out) actual song is Mirrorball

Line that makes me think of him: I'm still a believer but I don't know why, I've never been a natural, All I do is try, try, try, I'm still on that trapeze, I'm still trying everything, To keep you looking at me and And when I break it's in a million pieces

Explanation: Wren tried to seem effortless. He tried to seem loud and exciting just so that anyone would notice him. He was always trying, just to be noticed. Wren wasn't shown a lot of love or attention growing up, so he made some bad decisions and wasn't always the best person, but he was always just trying to be seen. Also, when he breaks, it's definitely in a million pieces. Kids a mess.

4. Aeryn Luce by _callmeRae:

Song: Dear John

Line that makes me think of her: Well maybe it's me and my blind optimism to blame and And I'll look back and regret how I ignored when they said "run as fast as you can"

Explanation: Rinn was always just a little too trusting of others. A bit naive. She immediately trusted it Connery, and we all saw how that turned out (RIP Viola). Obviously the song is about one specific person who took advantage of Taylor, but I think Rinn could probably relate the song to a lot of people. I don't know, it's not an exact fit, but certain parts make me think of her.

5. Pluto Fairchild by burnindesires:

Song: Bejeweled

Line that makes me think of her: Best believe I'm still bejeweled, When I walk in the room, I can still make the whole place shimmer

Explanation: Duh. Pluto is the IT girl of the OAFCU. Seriously, I'd like to see any character in any of the other apply fics try and compare to her. She commanded a room, the party literally started and ended with her. She was fabulous and perfect and if you follow the original ending to the book, then she deserved better. Sure, she made her mistakes, but didn't literally all of them?? The party girl deserves a worthy party song. She's my queen, and I will be taking no arguments at this time.

6. Jasmine Lyonne by sukifuls (who no longer appears to be active):

Song: Gold Rush (though I think there could be an argument for Fearless as well)

Line that makes me think of her: I don't like that anyone would die to feel your touch, Everybody wants you, Everybody wonders what it would be like to love you

Explanation: From an outside perspective, Jasmine has it all. She is beautiful, everybody does want her, and she's from a wealthy family. Of course, things are not always as they seem. Still, I think the chorus and the bridge of the song really make me think of her. I think people look at her and wonder what it must be like to be her and the answer is, not that great. Also a great time to add that Jasmine and Wren's friendship is still one of my favorite things ever and I miss them dearly.

7. Harper Rivera by ceaseless-watchr:

Song: Long Live

Line that makes me think of him: 'Cause for a moment, a band of thieves in ripped up jeans, Got to rule the world

Explanation: Maybe this one is a stretch? I don't know. Harper was confused where he stood in the world and who he was, though he never showed it. He is who I would say was probably the leader of the bunch? While they didn't have nearly as many happy family moments as some of the other apply fic groups, I think they all really found themselves within this story. I think Harper became pretty fucking fearless, I mean just think of him in the end and what he does for Wren with the syringe. Also the way him and Corbin grew together. While I know he would obviously wish they all could have lived, I think he wouldn't have any regrets about befriending them and how they fought together. His group of misfits fought for each other until the end. Long Live all the mountains they moved!

8. Noah Harrington by llytse:

Song: Safe & Sound

Line that makes me think of him: Just close your eyes, The sun is going down, You'll be alright, No one can hurt you now

Explanation: Noah was a little hard to pin down unfortunately. I think this song really just reminds me of his final moments in the original ending. Like, if that book were show, the chorus of this song would be playing as Edison is holding Noah and Noah takes his final breath. Noah has been hurt a lot, and at least he got to die in Edison's arms, right?? Maybe??

9. Viola Melling by tomsturridge:

Song: Forever Winter

Line that makes me think of her: Too young to know it gets better, I'll be summer sun for you forever, Forever winter if you go

Explanation: Poor sweet self destructive Viola :( She deserved a better shot at life as whole, even before the experiment. She was far too young to have experienced everything she had experienced. I don't know that I have to explain this one too much. In some ways I suppose she was lucky to have gone before the events of the original ending, because those were horrific. Still, it was certainly winter when she left them (in both a literal and metaphorical sense, of course)

Okay that is all for today. This took me way too long and was such a crazy thing to do but I love to hyperfixate on things and just forget the world for a bit.
