Charlotte stood in the E.R., by her patient, who was still star struck by April, as the shouting started.
"You stupid kids with your idiot convention!" The man being rolled in shouted. "Every year, you line up on my lawn, block my driveway. It's my property, got it?!" Charlotte looked at Carter.
"Sir! Sir!" April shouted in an attempt to calm the man down.
"I'm gonna have you arrested!" The man shouted.
"You threw a bottle at me!" A girl in a wheelchair responded, holding up the icepack to her face.
"Sir, get back in the gurney right now!" April ordered. "I need you back in the gurney," She pauses. "Thank you." April nods her head to an empty bed. "Bed six, please."
"I thought I told you to go home," Charlotte said, looking towards Carter—but he was still staring at April. "You're here to see Kepner again," Charlotte laughed.
"Uh, no," Carted shook his head, rambled. "I'm here for an exam. I feel sick."
"Look, why don't I give her your number, you get outta here, you give her a call, get your geek on?" Charlotte proposed.
"Oh, no. I could never—"
"No, trust me. You two have more in common than you think," Her hands slightly balled into fists at her sides.
"Couldn't you just admit me as a patient for the day?" He shrugged one shoulder.
"It's not gonna happen," Charlotte turned to walk away.
"But what if my foot was hurting, or my leg?" Carter pleaded.
"Look, I'm not giving up a bed for a stalker with fake symptoms. Forget it," Charlotte turned to walk away again.
"I have chest pains," Carter spit out, lying straight to Charlotte's face. "Which means you— you have to admit me and keep me for observation, right?" He lifts his eyebrow.
❄️
"Ow," Carter complained as Charlotte put the IV in his arm.
"Yeah, that's what real pain feels like," She looked up at Carter through her eyelashes.
Carter leans forward, "You, uh, think she's okay over there with that guy?"
"She's fine," Charlotte responded almost immediately.
"Get off of me!" The man shouted, pushing the redhead back.
"Sir, if you do not calm down, we will have to restrain you," Charlotte listened to make sure she was actually fine.
"Uh, are you— are you sure she's okay?" Carter insisted.
"Call security!" April shouted as the man pushed a nurse onto the ground.
Charlotte looks back as April tries to calm him, "Sir, sir."
"What the hell?" Charlotte frowns, finishing inserting the IV.
"I have to protect my house!"
"Oh, god. He's hulking out," Carter says anxiously.
"Security!" April shouted once again.
"Give me five of haloperidol I.M.," Charlotte clenches her jaw, taking her blue gloves off.
"I have to protect my house!" The man shouted as April and Charlotte held him back.
"Can we get some help?!" April yells.
"Uh, hey. Uh, hey," Carter muttered. "Somebody!"
"Get off me!" The man fought. "Get outta my way!" He spat, a guard now helping.
Carter continues trying to tell people to help the two doctors.
"I said no! Get off of me!" The man continues fighting the doctors and anyone who comes his way.
Carter comes over with his crutches.
"Someone stop him!" April cried.
"Excuse me, uh, sir," Carter swallowed nervously. "You need to calm down right now and stop—"
The man takes one of Carter crutches, leaving him to fall onto the ground with a grunt. The man starts kicking Carter, making him moan out in pain.
"Where is he?" Owen asked a male nurse hurriedly.
"Over there," The nurse leads him to where the man is currently kicking Carter.
"Book O.R. two for a possible concussion and a broken jaw," Owen sped down the corridor.
"We have a concussion and a broken jaw?" The nurse asked.
"We're about to," He looked over at the nurse before speeding up.
"I'm on it," The nurse nodded, parting ways.
"Hey," Owen said, gaining the man's attention.
Owen punches the man in the face, the heavier set man falling down.
"Holy shit," Charlotte swallowed, sitting on the ground, out of breath.
❄️
A day or two after Carter's surgery for his internal bleeding, Charlotte had decided to set the two dorks up—or at least try to.
"The guy was twice my size," Carter shakes his head, Charlotte pushing him in the wheelchair. "What was I thinking? I'm an idiot."
"Or a hobbit," Charlotte leans as she pushes the chair.
"What?" Carters eyebrows furrow.
"That's what you said, right?" The Brown woman chuckled. "When Hobbits find adventure, they become heroes. You stepped up. All right, so you got flattened by a giant. It's still cool. And I'm not the only one who thinks so," Charlotte whispered to him as she stopped the chair in front of the redhead.
Charlotte hears Carter let out a shaky breath, and snorts internally.
"Remember..all you have to do is say hi," Charlotte smirks as she takes the chart off the top of the chair. "Let her do the rest," She nods.
"Wait. Wait. Hang on," Carter tried to stop her as April turned to look at him.
"Hey," April walked towards the man, smiling, holding the chart to her chest. "Thank you for what you did, s— standing up to that guy the other day. That was so brave," April says in awe.
Charlotte looked back at him, raising her brows.
She couldn't have been jealous because she didn't have any romantic feelings for the redhead, but she still felt a feeling. One she hadn't felt before.
"I was a hobbit," He said, eyes wide.
"Oh.. okay. Uh, I'm not really familiar with hobbits, but anyway, that.. okay. Thank you. Bye," April said as she laughed.
"Whatever happened to just saying hi?" Charlotte playfully rolled her eyes, walking away.
❄️
Charlotte was standing in the residents locker room, April sitting on the bench, holding a magazine.
"That was really nice what you did for him," April smiled at Charlotte.
"Yeah, I guess," Charlotte shrugged. "I have my moments."
Jeans already on, Charlotte pulled her scrub top off to put on her dark blue sweater.
With Charlotte in nothing but her low rise jeans and her bra on—abs showing—April looks up from her magazine but immediately looked back down, a blush forming on her cheeks.
"Do you wanna do something tonight?" Charlotte asks, pulling her dark brown locks out from her sweater, not noticing the girls cheeks.
"Uh.. y— yeah," April nods, the blush still burning on her cheeks.
"So, what? Food and a movie in my room?" Charlotte offered, making April get giddy.
"Yeah. Sounds good," April says as her nervous self.
"Great. See you at home," Charlotte smiles, grabbing her bag.
Charlotte makes her way out of the room, slightly biting her lip. This was going to be a nice night.
