WHAT IS IT ABOUT MEN 8x4

When Charlotte wakes up she's reminded that she needs to move out.

She can't deal with everyone. Jackson and Lexie—then April fighting with everyone over laundry and other stupid things.

Charlotte puts her light blue sweatshirt on, along with the black spandex she'd worn the night before to bed.

She throws her hair up in a messy bun as she walks down the steps—still half asleep.

"Okay, I get that you like to put your dirty clothes in my laundry because, frankly, if you didn't, you'd never have any clean clothes," Charlotte walks into the kitchen, seeing April standing with the basket of clean clothes on her hip. "Fine. I will wash your dirty underpants."

Charlotte snorts, grabbing a bowl from the counter.

April watches as Alex looks at Charlotte's ass, and slaps him across the head.

"I'm talking to you," April lifts her eyebrows, trying to be authoritative.

"It's fine April, he can look all he wants," Charlotte winks at Alex as she pours her cereal. "Because you aren't getting any."

"Damn." Jackson laughs resulting in Alex rolling his eyes at him.

April sighs, "But you know what? I am not okay with washing your skank of the week's dirty underpants." April uses a pencil to lift the underwear out of the basket, not wanting to touch them.

Charlotte lifts her eyebrows, looking at Alex.

April exhales in disgust.

"Actually, those are.." Jackson clears his throat. "Lexie's." He takes them off the pencil. "Thank you."

"Oh," April says, "She w—"

"Oh, yeah," Jackson holds the underwear up.

"Okay. Never mind," April walks away into the laundry room, making Charlotte chuckle.

"Not Lexies," Jackson hands the underwear to Alex.

"Nope. Lauren, third floor, radiology."

"Nice," Charlotte nods, eating her cereal.

❄️

The trio from this morning had arrived at the hospital together, changed, did their rounds, and headed for April's office—unknown to each other.

Charlotte to look over her patients charts, Alex to use Aprils computer, and Jackson to eat breakfast.

Charlotte sits on the couch, ignoring Alex clipping his toenails on April's desk.

"Great. I come here to eat breakfast, and it smells like feet," Jackson sits his food and coffee on the table.

"You know, when April finds you in here, and beats your ass for having your smelly, bare feet on her desk, I'm not even gonna hold her back. Maybe I'll even help her," Charlotte shrugs.

"What's another word for crappy?" Alex asks, ignoring Jackson and Charlotte's statements.

"Sucky?" Jackson asks.

"Bad," Charlotte says, moving to another chart.

"Suckity. Stankin'," Jackson says, making the brunette roll her eyes. "You could go with assy also or ass-like." Jackson points out, now eating his breakfast.

"You're ass-like," Alex tells Jackson.

"You're both ass-like," Charlotte shrugs.

"No, that toe jam on your feet is ass-like. Honestly.. you ever bathe?" Jackson jokes.

"No," Alex replies. "I've got that damn Africa paper and boards. Fifth year blows."

Richard walks into the room, the Karev boy scrambling to look presentable.

Charlotte holds back a laugh.

"Chief. Sorry," Alex says, nervously looking to Jackson.

"You don't have to apologize to me," Richard takes breath of air. "You're at the top of the resident food chain. The world is your oyster. Now if you want to waste your time bitching about it, that's your business. Hey, have you heard anything about anything big coming in today, like a car accident or a building collapse?"

"Chief, are you trolling for cases?" Alex chuckles.

"Dude, don't you have a laminectomy with Shepherd today?" Charlotte asks, sipping on her coffee.

"Yeah, but that's a snoozefest," Alex rolls his eyes.

"No, don't you have it now?" Jackson asks, looking at the time. "Right now."

"Oh, damn it," Alex rushes to put his socks and shoes back on. "Shepherd is gonna have my ass. Damn it!"

"W— wait. Wait. Just tell him you had an appointment with Mayfield in twenty-two and it ran long. He'll understand," Richard tells the resident.

"Yeah, okay. Thanks, Chief," Alex says, rushing out of the room.

"Mm," The former Chief of Surgery hums. "Not— not the chief. Not the Chief."

❄️

Charlotte hurries into the pit, just like the rest of the residents and interns hoping for a good case.

"Okay, I've got an abdominal crush injury," April shouts.

"I'm available," Richard raises his hand.

"Oh, I have it, sir," Meredith says, already holding the chart.

"It's okay, Grey. I don't mind."

"I have it. It's too routine for you, sir."

"All right, looks like some lower extremity fractures," April reads.

"I'll take that for you, Chief," Alex rushes.

"I've got it," Charlotte takes the chart from April.

Charlotte settles her patient into his bed, and starts the exam.

"Bend your knee," Resulting in the patient groaning. "Good. Now your ankle."

"Fifteen.. collectors edition replicas of the 'Doctor Who' Tardis in original packaging, signing by Russell T. Davies, free to the first fifteen people through the door, and I was there, right in the middle of it," The patient rants.

"Other knee," She continues, listening to him. She was always a listener—just as much as a speaker.

"I'm never in the middle of anything."

"Ankle," Charlotte warns him, looking over at him.

"I have battle wounds."

"All right. I'm gonna get you some painkillers, and then we'll get you up to x-rays," Charlotte smiles to ease his anxiety.

"Oh, god," He swallows. "Um.. am I gonna walk again?"

"Most likely," Charlotte nods. "At worst, it's a few broken toes, if that."

"Just toes?"

"Yeah," Charlotte sighs.

"D— do I at least get a cast for that?"

❄️

Charlotte holds the x-ray scan up to show the patient, but to also look at it herself.

"You broke seven toes, but really five because pinkie toes barley count. So we're just gonna tape them up and get you out of here," Charlotte moves to the foot of the bed.

"Tape?" The patient asks. "I survive a human stampede, and all I get is tape?"

"I'll throw in some crutches," Charlotte shrugs. "But that's all I can do for you. You don't look like you've got great balance." She clears her throat. "What are you, anyway?"

"I'm a hobbit," He responds, disbelief laced in his voice. Charlotte looks at him. "We're a gentle folk from a farming community called The Shire. It's in the northwest corner of middle earth. We live a.. simple life, but we crave.. adventure. And when we find it, some become heroes." The patient looks up over Charlottes shoulder, catching the brunettes attention. "The Dothraki Princess."

"Yeah?" Charlotte asks sarcastically, writing something down in his chart.

"No. That— that doctor over there looks just like the Dothraki Princess from the legendary 'Song of Ice and Fire' series. Not her hair, but her— her— her skin and her eyes, and— oh, oh, god. Oh, god. Here she comes. Um.." The patient looks down as April passes his bed.

"You have nerd chub for Kepner?" Charlotte laughs.

"Kepner," The patient smiles.

"Brown, any idea where Karev is?" Derek asks, walking towards her.

"No idea," Charlotte looks down at the chart.

"Kepner," The patient whispers.

Charlotte places the chart on the stand by the bed and walks away, slightly clenching her jaw, but not enough it's noticeable.

She walks to the nurses station.

"What's up?" Meredith raises her eyebrows at her friend, grabbing a paper to write a note on.

"Nothing," Charlotte shakes her head, sighing.

"Come on. I know when somethings wrong. I'm Meredith Grey."

"My patient finds April attractive," Charlotte laughs.

"What? Are you upset one person doesn't find you attractive?" Meredith laughs, but then it comes to her. Charlotte fucking Brown was jealous. "Wait. Your not jealous— are you?"

"What?! No!" Charlotte stands straight.

"You are."

"Am not!"

"Are too!" Meredith points.

"I am walking away now," Charlotte fake smiles and walks away from the Grey.

She so was not jealous—or was she?

yes.
