x. the rescue

IT FELT LIKE ROBYN HAD BEEN HANGING FOR HOURS BUT IN REALITY IT HAD ONLY BEEN ABOUT HALF AN HOUR. It was long enough for Robyn to lose enough blood for her to feel nauseous. She was still hanging over the edge when she heard a jeep drive up on the top of the cliff.

She used all her strength to try and haul herself up on the rope but she ended up flopping back down. Her head tilted back to see a large drop, full of rocks and bushes. A drop that would surely kill her if she landed straight on her head or neck.

"Help!" Robyn screeched, her voice scratchy and oozing with pain. "Please God, somebody, help me!"

She heard a pair of footsteps rushed towards the edge of the cliff. "Robyn?!" The familiar voice of Ellie called out in distress. "We're gonna get you, sweetie. Just hang on, okay?"

She almost laughed at accidental pun the scientist made but her head hurt too much for that. "Trust me, I will," she weakly called back.

The wire that was holding her began to lift up, the thick wire beginning to rub harshly at the woman's ankle. Robyn used her hands to support herself on the wall as she ascended. Ellie and Robert hauled Robyn over the edge of the cliff and cut the wire off her leg. She was left with a nasty bruise and most definitely a twisted ankle. The young blonde clasped onto her older friend as tears slid down her cheeks.

"It was a disaster, El," Robyn choked out. A gasp flew out of her mouth as if a lightbulb had just lit above her head. She painfully stood up yet her ankle gave out immediately. Determined, Robyn stumbled painfully away from the destroyed confinement.

"Robyn, stop. We've got to get you off of your foot before you make it worse," Ellie steady Robyn as she nearly tumbled to the wet ground. She searched the area until she saw what she was looking for. With a sob, she landed on her knees and pulled the palm leaves off of his body.

Or what was left off it. Her best friend, Jimmy Franks' remains. It was a bloody scene before her, blood and guts and limbs and flesh all over the ground and jeeps, but she couldn't tear her eyes away from it. She hated herself. She should've shouted for him, she shouldn't have lashed out before the whole incident, she should've just ignored his harsh words and moved on. There was a lot of things that if the opportunity arose, she would turn back time and change. But she couldn't, and now the only frequent person in her life was gone and she could never get him back.

"Who is that, Robbie?" Ellie asked, warily.

Robbie. Robyn pushed herself from the ground once more and rushed over to the destroyed toilet huts, exploring the ruins until she saw him. Lying peacefully until the fallen thatched roof and leaves was Ian Malcolm.

"Ian?" Robyn asked, carefully, her hand pressed to his cheek and her thumb rubbing along his cheekbone, coxing him out of his slumber. Ian grumbled, his eyes twitching slightly as he came to his senses. "Ah, thank god," Robyn clasped her hands on each side of his face, a sad smile etched onto her face as Ian's brown eyes peeled open. Ian sat up, his face was ridden with concern as he looked at the woman before him.

"What happened?" Ian raised his hand to tenderly wipe away the blood that pooled around her face and hair.

Robyn grinned. "Don't worry about me," she whispered tiredly. "How's your leg?" She gestured down to the makeshift tourniquet, glad that he was able to stop the bleeding for the time being.

"Don't, uh, worry about me, sweetheart," Ian lazily grinned. A distant roar blared past the trees, catching all of their attention.

"Can we chance moving him?" Robert asked, not taking his eyes from the nearby trees.

Ian sat up fully. "Please chance it."

Robert hauled Ian up while Ellie helped Robyn. The two healthy adults placed the two injured ones in the back seats of their worker's jeep, then left to inspect the other car that fell over the edge of the cliff. There wasn't a lot of room for the two to be comfortable so Ian wrapped his arm around Robyn's shoulders and brought her closer to his chest.

Here, Ian had the perfect opportunity to examine Robyn's head injuries. "I don't, uh, know how you expect me... to not worry about you, Robbie, when the back of your head is covered in, uh, in blood."

Robyn twisted her head on his shoulder so she could comfortably look up at him. "I'll survive. I'm just worried about Alan, Lex and Tim at the minute. And you, too. That gash on your leg could get infected if we don't wrap it properly."

Ian smiled at her words. Even though she probably had a broken ankle, a severe head injury and a significant amount of blood loss, she still cared about everyone before herself. "My hero," Ian smiled in awe at the woman. She truly was something else. He had never met such a loving yet independent woman like Robyn Morris before, and it certainly enticed him.

Robyn felt a thud rumble through the ground. "Did you feel that?" She whispered.

"The sparks? Yeah-"

She had to hold back a giggle at Ian's goofy flirting and be serious. "No, listen," she held a finger up to his lips briefly, silencing him as she felt another tremor in the ground

Ian turned his head to look down at the ground next to the vehicle, Robyn was leaning over his torso to see what he was looking at too. A large puddle in the shape of the T-Rex's foot rippled with the frequent tremor.

Fearing the worse with this park, Ian began to stutter. "That's an impact tremor, that's what that is. I'm fairly alarmed here," his breathing increased as he beckoned the others over frantically. "Come on, we have to get out of here. We have to go. Now. Now! Right now! Let's go!"

Robert and Ellie race back to the jeep and hop in. Robert starts the car as quickly as he can and drives off just as the T-Rex bursts through the tall trees, making its way towards them. Ellie and Robyn scream in terror. Robyn clutches onto Ian's shirt as if it would protect her. Her hazel eyes were squeezed shut and her face was in the crook of his neck. Ian's arms were wrapped around Robyn, securely - not only trying to protect and comfort her but also finding solace in her arms amidst the chaos.

"Must go faster!" Ian frantically spoke, turning his head to look at the front seats. The T-Rex rams the side of the jeep with its head - the side that Robyn's injured leg was resting against. At the sudden jolt and bent metal digging into her leg adding to her immense pain. She let out a blood-curdling scream at the injury. Robert sped up the car once more, fast enough for the dinosaur to give up on the chase and stomp away. "Think they'll have that on the tour?" Ian breathed out. Robyn was still sobbing into his chest, her mind fogged with discomfort. "Robbie, she's gone, it's... it's okay."

"My - my leg," she croaked out, her shaky hand pointing down to her now bloody leg. When the T-Rex hit the car, the bent metal dug deeply into her calf. Unable to move, she had to suffer, her own blood pooling below her quickly.

"Oh, fuck," Ian cursed loudly, his calloused hands desperately wiping away Robyn's tears and bloody hair from her face, anything to try and soothe her agony. "Muldoon, floor it. We're losing blood back here!"
