"My god, who does he have on the back of that thing now?" Stiles sighed at the sight of Eli skating their way, a clear seat of arms hanging on tightly. Malia turned her head, seeing him coming their way. Her eyebrows frowned, watching the pair ride up to them.
"Stiles, Malia." Eli greeted as he came to a stop. "How's your first day of school treating you?"
"Better then mine." Lydia huffed as she got off the back of the skateboard first. "Never again."
"You loved it." Eli flashed her a smirk.
"Why didn't you come in your car?" Stiles looked at Lydia oddly.
"Because I had to drop all of Eli's bags off after you left them all in my car. And when I tried to leave, he ran outside and said he got new wheels and I had to let him drive me." Lydia huffed, pulling strands of her hair that flew to the side.
"She loved it." Eli confirmed, pulling his skateboard off the ground. "What do the two of you look so weird for?"
"Oh, Malia was just talking about how hot Theo is and how he has great hair and a perfect body after I tell her he's clearly suspicious." Stiles ranted on to the pair.
"Theo?" Eli frowned in confused at the new name. He looked at Malia.
"You ran a background check, didn't you?" Lydia asked him with an eyebrow raise.
"I-" Stiles began.
"He did." Malia confirmed.
"He has a speeding ticket." Stiles tried to defend his statement. "He's clearly trying to get away from something."
"Eli and I would have gotten a speeding ticket over here if we'd been in a car." Lydia exclaimed with a cross of her arms. "Everyone gets tickets."
"It's why my mom doesn't let me drive the car anymore." Eli nodded his head before throwing a half grin over to Lydia. "And I don't know why you're complaining. I tried to stay cautious with you on the back and then you start yelling about how we're gonna be late, so then I speed away. What do you want from me?"
"I want you to let me drive my car to school like a normal person does." she gave him a stern look back.
"You loved it." he shook his head at her with a grin. "Who is this Theo guy?"
"He's-" Stiles began, stopping with a huff as he threw his hand in the direction behind them. The three turned to follow his gaze, finding a boy in a black hoodie getting out of a silver car. They stared a moment until he caught their eye, raising his hand in a wave with a grin.
Eli smiled back as he waved, having Stiles grasp his wrist and yank it down. "No, Eli, no. We don't wave at him. He is bad. Somethings off."
"Oh, right." Eli nodded quickly, pulling on the collar of the button up under the navy sweater. "I won't wave at him anymore."
"Why are you so suspicious of this guy?" Malia looked back to Stiles in questioning.
"Because I remember Theo from fourth grade, okay? That's not Theo." Stiles shook his head with a confident look in his eye.
Lydia began to walk off, making Eli turn to call out to her. "Do you need me to drive you home?"
"Absolutely not!" she called back with a look of disbelief.
"You sure?" Eli yelled out to her. "I'll let you drive."
Lydia ignored him, walking away as the bell rung above them. Malia looked at Eli as they walked toward the doors together. "Where's your sweater vest?"
Eli blinked, looking down before flashing her an insane look. "My mom had the temperature so low last night! I felt like I was gonna freeze. And I was all alone, in the complete cold. Bet you never get cold. The whole coyote thing."
"That's what you get for sleeping with barley any clothes on." Stiles rolled his eyes, pulling the door open.
"I get hot flashes." Eli argued, walking into the loud hallway. "You guys are gonna be so proud of me. Guess where i'm going right now?"
"AP Biology?" Malia rose her eyebrows at him.
Eli gave a look of disbelief as he began to walk backwards. "Malia, you're stealing my thunder."
"Yeah, let me know when you're ready to drop that class!" Stiles called out as Eli sent them a grin, turning on his heels and walking away. "Don't over work your shit head brain!"
"When did Lydia and Eli get so close?" Malia spoke up when the Foxx boy was gone.
Stiles shrugged as they headed toward their first class together. "Over the summer, before he left. Apparently his uncle owns a ranch and Lydia really likes horses."
"She likes horses?" Malia frowned her eyebrows. "What did they do there? Like, just look at horses?"
"Well, they stayed for an entire week when his uncle was away." Stiles gave a shrug. "Apparently there's a lot to do out there."
Malia looked over in the direction Eli left in before hurrying after Stiles. "So, what all do you think they did then?"
Lydia removed her bag from the chair as Eli walked in, taking the seat with a sigh of relief. "I stopped to talk to Liam and Mason for, like, three seconds and suddenly i'm la- Is that Scott?"
Lydia gave a knowing look. "Apparently he signed up for this class himself."
"Welcome to AP Biology." Mrs Finch spoke up as she turned back to the class. "Let's see who's awake. Can somebody tell me what plasmids are?"
"Circular, self-replicating DNA molecules often used in cloning proteins." Lydia spoke up, not even having to think about it.
"Nicely stated, Lydia. Now, can you tell me what vitamin is absorbed in the stomach via parietal cell production of a glycoprotein?" Mrs Finch went on, leaning on her desk. Lydia paused, taking a second to think. "B-12. Mr.McCall, did you know the answer?"
"Um, no." Scott admitted honestly.
"It's a common test question. What's your number one college pick?" she went on in questioning, her intimidating stare staying on him the entire time.
"Um-" Scott began.
"Stop saying um." she snapped as him. Eli's eyebrows shot up, regretting sitting in the front row.
"Sorry. UC Davis." Scott nodded his head.
"Good choice. It's the best school in the West Coast for biological and physical sciences. You're in the right class if that's what you're hoping for." she nodded his way, possibly having an actual heart under all that hard demeanor. "Who else thinks they're in the right class?"
Eli definitely didn't raise his hand, as did everyone else. Everyone aside from Theo, the new guy Stiles insisted they all stay far away from. Hands began to raise after that.
"Good. Then you should all be prepared for the test tomorrow." Mrs Finch nodded her head, a string of groans leaving the majority of the students. "Don't be so disappointed. This test is specifically to help you determine whether you should actually be in AP Biology. You have two weeks to drop. Tomorrows test will just weed out the ones who shouldn't be here. And that could be any of you."
Yet, her eyes only focused onto Scott.
"She's kinda tough, isn't she?" a new voice rung from the other side of Eli's locker. Pulling it shot, he stumbled slightly, but caught himself before he could fall, looking at Theo standing there. "Sorry, didn't mean to sneak up on you."
"Who's tough?" Eli asked, holding his World History book under his arm.
"Mrs Finch." Theo nodded his head with a smile, too nice of a smile. "I saw you in the front with Lydia Martin."
"Oh, Mrs Finch." Eli nodded his head, pulling the little pearls around his neck off his skin after they traveled into his shirt last class. "A lot of AP teachers are like that. I think it's because they have to prove a point."
Theo gave a small nod. "Well, nice way to scare me before I go to AP English."
Eli laughed slightly. "I think Lydia has AP English too. Just sit next to her and if you ever get stuck, copy off of her. She's always right."
"Noted." Theo nodded his head. "Sorry, i'm Theo. I saw you with Stiles this morning."
"Yeah." he nodded, taking his hand. "I'm Eli. Stiles told me...stuff."
"Stuff?" Theo gave a small snort. "Stuff like he doesn't like me or stuff like i'm a werewolf?"
Eli gave him a crazy look, glancing around the hallway to make sure no one heard that. "Both."
"Well, he'll get-" Theo began before he was cut off.
"Eli!" the pair looked back when his name was called, seeing Liam standing across the hall, Mason by his side.
Eli faced Theo. "See you in AP Biology tomorrow, unless you drop."
"I won't." Theo shook his head with a small wave. "See you."
Masons jaw dropped as Eli walked to them. "Who was that?"
"A guy Stiles says I shouldn't talk to." he said back, looking down at Liam's shorts. "Why are you in gym clothes? You were so excited about your first day of school outfit."
Liam huffed. "I sat on gum."
"Correction, Hayden put gum in his seat and he sat on it." Mason corrected as the three began to walk together. "Look, maybe Eli will believe me."
"Believe what?" Eli spoke up, getting a violent head shake from Liam.
"I keep researching that thing that attacked me, remember?" Mason asked, Eli began regretting asking now. "Im not saying that I believe all of it 100%, but people around us seem to know things. Like Lydia, she knows things."
"Ask Eli, he drove her to school." Liam pushed the burden off to him. Eli gave him a look of disbelief. "And they stayed at his uncles ranch for an entire week together."
"Did she say anything? About the attack?" Mason asked Eli with wide eyes. "Like, literally, anything."
The Foxx boy cleared his throat. "We're suppose to let all stress go out there, my uncle says so, anyways. She didn't say anything."
"Dude, it's the first day of school. Shouldn't you be thinking about other things like... soccer team?" Liam spoke up when they reached his locker, motioning toward the group of boys all huddled together.
"What do you think i'm going to do? Follow them out to the field and watch them practice while I pretend to study?" Mason asked, his eyes going back and forth toward the team walking away to his friends infront of him.
"It's warm out. They're probably gonna be shirtless." Liam nodded his head.
"And sweaty, glistening in the sun." Eli added in, leaning against the lockers with a smirk Masons way.
"I'll see you in Physics." Mason hurried after them, leaving the pair.
"You still don't just wanna tell him?" Eli asked, leaning on the other side of the lockers while Liam grabbed some of his books. "Scott says we can. It'll make it all so much easier."
"I'm just, not ready to." Liam sighed, looking over at him. "What's going on with you?"
"What do you mean?" Eli gave an odd look. "I took my anxiety medicine, it makes me a little giddy."
"You've been, like, so flaky this morning." Liam explained with a weird look his way. "And you keep looking around like somethings wrong."
Eli sighed. "Malia said something last night."
"What'd she say?" Liam asked, passing him all his books to fish something out of the back of his locker.
"She said she didn't need me on full moons anymore." Eli explained with a small frown.
"Isn't that a good thing? Like she's in control?" the Dunbar boy went on.
"Yeah, i'm so proud of her, definitely." Eli nodded honesty as Liam rose an eyebrow. "But, I don't know, it made me feel sad. Like, why doesn't she need me anymore? I like when she needs me."
"Did you tell her that?" Liam laughed.
"No! She'll take it the completely wrong way and it'll just be weird." Eli huffed, biting the inside of his mouth. "Now it just feel like she's kinda pulling away from me."
"What? Do you think she was just using you to get through the full moons?" Liam asked.
Eli's face fell. "Well, I wasn't until you said it."
Liam gave a panicked look his way. "I think you're thinking into it a lot. When I told her you were home last night, in the jeep, she was so happy."
Eli sighed. "So, what? I should just let it go?"
"No, I think you should just ask her." Liam shrugged his shoulders. "But for the full moon part, just be lucky she doesn't have to deal with that anymore."
Eli then frowned. "Is it still hard on you?"
"Yeah." Liam said honestly. "But after Derek helped, it's gotten a bit better."
Eli waited. "What if I help next time?"
Liam gave an odd look. "No offense, but you're human last time I checked."
"I mean, being there." Eli rolled his eyes. "Just to see if you're the Malia and i'm the Eli in this situation too."
"But, you are Eli." Liam rose an eyebrow.
"Exactly." Eli smiled at him. The bell rung. "I'll come find you at lunch."
"Try not to fall over anything in the meantime!" Liam called as he headed down the hallway.
Eli squeezed through the crowds of people, squeezing his hands shut to keep him grounded. Making his way toward the hallways that links, his eyes found Malias at the end of the hallway. They both stared a second, wide eyes, before both going the opposite directions quickly.
Something was definitely wrong.
