──EPISODE ONE
"SO YOU MIGHT BE wondering what a team does after they win the championship..." Aisha held her phone up to show her friends, streaming live to her instagram followers, "The answer... Victory nachos!"
Élodie grinned, waving up at the phone as she leaned into her boyfriend's side.
"It was supposed to be a round of drinks, but the waitress was not feeling Hawk's fake ID," Aisha laughed, and Élodie watched Eli's expression change, "Hey, don't talk about that. My parents follow you!"
"Sorry, Mr. and Mrs. Moskowitz. Anyways, until next time... No mercy, bitches!" she ended the live, putting down her phone as chatter at the table continued.
"I gotta say, it's nice to be at a victory party," Demetri grinned, and Élodie high-fived him.
"Yeah, except you had nothing to do with the victory..." Hawk grunted, and Élodie nudged him, "Uh, neither did I!"
"As much as I hate to say it you kinda did," her boyfriend sighed, knowing Miguel had seen her in the crowd and inevitably been motivated more, "Besides, you're hot. You're allowed to be here."
She just laughed.
"Well, then I consider it a belated party for the coding competition we won at computer camp," Demetri shrugged, "Remember?"
"Cool it with the nerd shit, huh?" Hawk snapped, and Élodie watched Demetri's face fall, "Ignore big bad Hawk over here, I'm proud of you 'Metri."
Hawk only frowned, looking down into his lap for a moment.
"Hey, where's Miguel? His wings are getting cold."
Élodie spotted Miguel sulking on a table far away. They'd still only partly made up, and things were ever so slightly awkward. Even worse, Sam had just blocked him, so he couldn't even make up with her either.
Hawk kissed her cheek, "We'll be back now, okay babe?", before standing up and gesturing for Aisha to come with him to speak to the sullen-looking champion.
Hawk and Miguel had made up quickly, she'd learned. Miguel knew he'd overstepped and, though he admitted he did have some residual feelings for his best friend's girlfriend, he promised he'd try to keep them at bay and move on. Besides, he did really like Sam too... He was confused.
Élodie was surprised Hawk had forgiven him, but she didn't want a fight over it. Not after all the stress of the previous few weeks. 'Cobra Kai for life', apparently.
Miguel had also apologised fully to Élodie, promising her he'd back off because he valued her friendship more than his pride. She was content with that, but still felt a little awkward, particularly hanging out with both boys so often among their friends.
She stood up, deciding to join the conversation as she wanted things to be normal, "You're the champ now, you can get any chick in the Valley you want," she heard her boyfriend as he grinned, "You're like Drake. Enjoy it."
"Drake? Why would he want to be Drake?" she snorted, "Yeah I'm not sure I wanna be Drake." Miguel sighed.
"Don't worry Miggy, you're not. My boyfriend is full of shit," Élodie laughed, before suddenly falling silent and realising the awkward tension her words had caused.
She tried desperately to think of something to say to patch up her mistake, Eli's hand tightening around her waist to comfort her.
"I could try and talk to Sam for you?" Élodie offered shyly, "I'm going over to hers later to uh— well, to ask about training with her dad and to patch things up with her. I can try for your sake too?"
Miguel bit his lip, frowning, "It won't work, El. Especially coming from you. Besides, you should just join Cobra Kai. Sensei would love that."
There was an awkward silence now as Élodie blushed, shaking her head. She looked down at her feet, noticing Eli's jaw clench out of the corner of her eye.
The past few weeks' events were lingering on everyone's minds like a bad smell.
———
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Aisha asked as she left the Cobra Kai dojo, noticing Élodie sat in the passenger seat of Sam's car too, "You finally change your mind and decide to join the Cobras? We still need another girl."
Sam shook her head with a laugh, "Yeah, right. Um, we were actually coming to see if you wanted to hang out. Me and El have, uh, made up... and I want to hang out, just the three of us, like old times."
Élodie nodded, "We were thinking we could go on a hike... or we could go to the beach club? Whatever you fancy," she smiled, slightly distracted as she looked for her boyfriend behind Aisha.
"I'd love to, but the guys and I have to go to Hawk's house to watch some movie called Over the Top," Aisha frowned, and Élodie noticeably did too, "Sensei said we have to be ready to discuss, so... Do you wanna come with?"
Sam sighed, dejected, and glanced at Élodie at her side. "Uh, yeah, I was sort of thinking it would maybe just be... well, us three. Besides, El and Hawk have a date later tonight?"
"Oh... Uh, well, maybe you could just come. It would be good for you to talk to Miguel... Air things out?" Aisha offered, knowing that it would be turned down. She'd figured it was worth a shot, anyway.
Élodie saw Hawk chatting to his friends, and he'd not even spared a glance in her direction. She pondered calling over to him, but the disappointment overcoming her made her just smile sadly at her friends instead.
"Rain check?" Sam shrugged as she gave Élodie's hand a comforting squeeze, "Okay. I'm sorry. See you!" Aisha smiled, and the girls waved her away with a false smile for a moment.
Élodie looked over at Sam sadly, "I know they've only just been told but... Do you think he's forgotten about the date, Sammy? I'm just... so scared Cobra Kai is his number one priority, y'know?"
Sam shook her head, "He'll probably just send them all home straight after the movie, right? He wouldn't forget, I'm sure. You're the only thing he's more obsessed with than Cobra Kai, and that's saying something!"
"I hope you're right."
"Hey, I'm sure I am... Let's go get some ice cream and go back to mine, yeah?"
"Sounds like a plan, on one condition," Élodie raised her eyebrows, "We finally get back in the dojo... I'm getting rusty and I've missed our sparring sessions."
Sam chuckled, "We'll see."
———
Élodie had successfully convinced Sam to train with her, and they'd been letting off steam in the dojo for almost an hour now. Élodie had just sent Hawk a text asking if their date was still on as Mr LaRusso entered the dojo, surprised to see the two girls there.
"Hey girls," he greeted with a startled smile, "I didn't expect to see you two in here. It's nice to see, though."
Élodie smiled, her breathing heavy as she sat down for a moment, "It's nice to be back. We're just, uh, letting some stress out."
Daniel eyed his daughter now, knowing what this was about, "I know you and I haven't had a chance to really talk about you and Miguel," he began, and Élodie stood up to retreat, feeling it wasn't her place to hear this conversation, but Daniel put his hand on her arm and shook his head, "No, no, stay. It's okay."
"I don't wanna talk about it, Dad," Sam pouted.
"Did I ever tell you girls about my first girlfriend?" Daniel was obviously about to tell a story, so the girls just said nothing, "I was about your age. She was in another league. Beautiful eyes, amazing smile. And I thought it would last forever. I did."
Élodie sat deep in thought, did she feel that way about Eli?
Even contemplating that told her the answer: She felt that about Eli, but about Hawk she was becoming increasingly unsure.
"What happened?" Sam pressed, and Daniel chuckled, "Grandma moved us out of New Jersey. Came to California... I met a new girl, Ali. This time, I was sure she was the one. I mean, Judy was great, but this... this was true love."
Élodie knitted her eyebrows, "So what happened with Ali?"
Mr LaRusso pondered the question for a moment, before shaking his head, "That's a story for another time. And then there's a story after that one... And that one. My point is, you think the world revolves around one person, but then, you meet someone new," he shrugged, and Élodie couldn't get his words off her mind. Would that happen to her?
"I know it's hard. It hurts, but everyone goes through this," Daniel promised them, and Élodie felt her stomach churn. She hoped she wouldn't go through it; Was it really as inevitable as he suggested?
"Yeah, but not everyone has an insane karate cult that's brainwashing half the school," Sam joked, and Élodie laughed despite the feeling weighing on her chest, "Well, that's why I'm opening up Miyagi-Do... So we can fight back, take down Cobra Kai." Daniel told them proudly, but Sam didn't seem impressed.
"I don't wanna fight them. They're not my enemies, they're my friends," she bit her lip, "At least they used to be. Thanks for trying to help, Dad."
At that moment Élodie received a text from her boyfriend, and she was almost reluctant to read it.
As Daniel LaRusso stood up to leave, she finally pulled her phone from her pocket and looked at what he'd said.
Once Daniel was out of earshot, she read it aloud, her voice full to the brim with sheer disappointment, "Sorry princess I forgot, I'm with the guys. Raincheck?"
Sam pulled her in for a hug, arms tight around her frame, "It's alright, I promise. He'll make it up to you, I'm sure. You can stay over tonight, yeah?"
Something about the fear bubbling in Elodie's gut told her things were only going to go downhill from here.
———
"You got room for two more?"
Élodie and Sam stood in the doorway to the Miyagi-do dojo, bright smiles on their faces as Daniel and Robby turned to face them.
Daniel looked amazed, and it warmed Élodie's heart to see, "Yeah."
"The place looks great. I mean, the house has been painted and the deck's been sanded," Sam's eyes scanned the area, and Élodie laughed, "Please tell me that means we're off the hook?"
"Uh, no," Daniel nodded, gesturing for the girls to come over to theme "We're gonna find something for you pair to do. Get on over here."
The girls strode to his side, Sam hugging her father while Élodie placed her hands on Robby's shoulder to rest her chin on. She jokingly shoved him, "I'm gonna kick your ass, Keene."
"Hey hey you two," Daniel chuckled, "But look, not even open 24 hours, and I've tripled my roster." he looked pleased with himself, "I've got a good feeling
about this."
The three kids in front of him grinned as Daniel stepped back, "All right, you guys should go get some rest. We'll be spending a lot of time out here this summer, yeah?"
The teenagers nodded, the two girls linking arms as they headed to Sam's room. "What do you say we do what we used to as kids and give each other makeovers, eh?" Sam suggested, giggling.
Élodie nodded, toying with her hair as they bounced up the stairs, "Sounds good to me, Sammy."
"If Hawk's gonna forget about your date, we're going to make him regret it, yeah?"
Élodie grinned, trying her hardest to suppress the anxiety in her stomach. She couldn't tell if she had any right to be mad at Eli, but all the same she felt like shit knowing Cobra Kai had been his priority tonight.
"Let's do it."
