3. breakfasts and museums
The next morning, Kamari woke up with a sense of excitement humming through her veins. She took extra care in choosing her outfit, opting for a beige-shaded dress with a collar that perfectly captured the summer vibe of New York.
She paired it with comfortable white sneakers, knowing they would be doing a lot of walking. Her dark hair was styled in loose waves, and she added a touch of lip gloss and mascara to accentuate her features.
Meanwhile, Shubman was getting ready with equal enthusiasm. He chose a casual yet stylish ensemble: a navy blue t-shirt that complemented his athletic build, paired with jeans and his favourite white sneakers. He topped off his look with a classic wristwatch and a pair of sunglasses, ready for a day of exploration.
They met in the hotel lobby, both instantly brightening at the sight of each other. "Good morning, Kamari," Shubman greeted her, his eyes twinkling with admiration. "You look beautiful."
"Good morning, Shubman," Kamari replied, blushing slightly. "You look great too. Ready for our adventure?"
"Absolutely," he said, offering her his arm with a playful smile. "Shall we?"
They walked to a charming café a few blocks from their hotel, the morning sun casting a golden hue over the city.
The café had an inviting, rustic charm with its wooden furniture and green plants lining the windowsills. They found a cozy table by the window, where they could watch the city waking up.
A cheerful waitress handed them menus, and they began to peruse the options. "Everything looks so good," Kamari remarked, scanning the menu.
"I can't decide between the avocado toast and the pancakes."
Shubman chuckled. "Why not get both? We can share," he suggested.
Kamari's eyes lit up. "That's a great idea!"
After placing their order, they settled into an easy conversation. "So, Kamari," Shubman began, leaning forward slightly, "what's been your favourite part of New York so far?"
Kamari thought for a moment, her gaze thoughtful. "Honestly, it's hard to pick just one thing. I love the energy of the city and the endless things to see and do. But if I had to choose, I'd say it's the little moments—like this one," she said, smiling at him.
Shubman's heart warmed at her words. "I feel the same way. It's the people you meet and the memories you make that really stand out."
Their breakfast arrived, and they eagerly dug into the delicious food. The avocado toast was perfectly seasoned, and the pancakes were fluffy and sweet, topped with fresh berries and a drizzle of maple syrup. They shared bites, laughing and enjoying each other's company.
As they finished their meal, Shubman glanced at his watch. "Ready to head to the museum?" he asked.
Kamari nodded, her excitement palpable. "Definitely. I've been looking forward to this all morning."
They left the café, hand in hand, and made their way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The day ahead promised new discoveries and the deepening of their unexpected connection, as they continued to explore the city that had brought them together.
As Shubman and Kamari approached the grand entrance of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, they marveled at the architectural beauty of the building. The sun was shining brightly, casting a golden glow on the stone facade and illuminating the steps leading up to the impressive doors.
Kamari glanced at Shubman with a smile. "I've heard so much about this place. I can't believe we're finally here."
Shubman nodded, equally excited. "Me too. Let's make the most of it."
Inside, they were greeted by the vast, open space of the Great Hall, where the sound of footsteps and hushed conversations echoed around them. The grandeur of the hall, with its soaring ceilings and intricate details, took their breath away. They picked up a map from the information desk and started planning their route through the museum.
"Where should we start?" Kamari asked, her eyes scanning the various sections marked on the map.
"How about the Ancient Egypt section?" Shubman suggested. "I've always been fascinated by the history and artifacts from that era."
"Perfect choice," Kamari agreed. "Let's go."
They made their way to the Ancient Egypt exhibit, passing by other awe-inspiring displays and art pieces along the way. When they finally reached the exhibit, they were greeted by towering statues, intricate hieroglyphs, and beautifully preserved artefacts that told the story of a civilization long gone.
Kamari stopped in front of a glass case displaying a golden mask. "Look at the detail on this," she marvelled. "It's incredible to think about the craftsmanship that went into creating something like this."
Shubman nodded, equally entranced. "It's amazing. The history in this room is just overwhelming."
As they moved through the exhibit, they found themselves drawn into deep conversations about the history and significance of the artefacts, sharing their thoughts and insights with each other. Their connection grew stronger with each discussion, fueled by their mutual curiosity and admiration for the art and history around them.
After exploring the Ancient Egypt section, they wandered through the museum, visiting the European paintings gallery, the modern art wing, and the stunning collection of sculptures. Each exhibit sparked new conversations and moments of shared wonder.
At one point, they found themselves standing in front of Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night," one of Kamari's favourite paintings. "I've always been captivated by this piece," she said softly, gazing at the swirling night sky depicted in the painting. "It's like you can feel the emotion in every brushstroke."
Shubman looked at the painting, then back at Kamari. "It's beautiful, just like you," he said quietly, his voice filled with genuine admiration.
Kamari turned to him, her eyes sparkling.
"Thank you, Shubman," she said, touched by his words. "I'm so glad we're sharing this experience together."
They continued to explore the museum, losing track of time as they immersed themselves in the art and history around them.
When they finally decided to take a break, they found a quiet corner in the museum's café, where they ordered drinks and reflected on their day so far.
"This has been incredible," Kamari said, sipping her coffee. "I feel like we've seen so much, and yet there's still so much more to explore."
Shubman nodded in agreement. "I know what you mean. We could spend days here and still not see everything."

As they walked back to the hotel, Shubman felt a mixture of exhilaration and nervousness swirling inside him. The day spent with Kamari at the museum had deepened their connection, and he found himself wanting to take their friendship to the next level. With each step, he rehearsed what he wanted to say, his thoughts racing ahead.
"So, Kamari," he began, his voice slightly hesitant yet determined. "I've been thinking... about us."
Kamari turned to him, her eyes curious yet gentle. "About us?"
"Yeah," Shubman continued, his words tumbling out in a rush. "I've really enjoyed getting to know you these past couple of days. You're so easy to talk to, and being with you feels... right, you know?"
Kamari smiled warmly, encouraging him to continue.
"And I was wondering if... if maybe you'd like to... uh, go out with me sometime?" Shubman blurted out, his cheeks coloring slightly. "I mean, not just as friends but like... a date?"
He paused, suddenly feeling self-conscious. "I know it's probably too soon, and I don't want to make things awkward..."
Kamari reached out and gently placed her hand on his arm, her touch reassuring. "Shubman," she said softly, "I'd love to go out with you."
Relief washed over Shubman's face, and a smile spread across his lips. "Really? You would?"
Kamari nodded, her eyes shining with sincerity. "Yes, really. I've enjoyed every moment we've spent together, and I'd like to see where this could go."
Shubman let out a breath he didn't realize he was holding. "That's... that's great to hear," he said, feeling a weight lift off his shoulders. "I just... I didn't want to assume anything, you know?"
Kamari squeezed his arm gently. "I understand. And I appreciate you asking."
They walked in comfortable silence for a moment, the energy between them charged with newfound excitement and anticipation. Shubman couldn't stop smiling, his mind already racing with ideas for their first official date.
"So," he began, his voice more relaxed now. "How about tomorrow night? Dinner, maybe?"
Kamari nodded, her smile mirroring his. "That sounds perfect. I'd love to."
They reached the hotel entrance, where they paused under the soft glow of the lobby lights. Shubman turned to Kamari, his heart full. "Thank you for saying yes," he said sincerely.
Kamari reached up and brushed a stray hair from his forehead. "Thank you for asking," she replied softly. "I'm really looking forward to it."
They exchanged a warm hug before saying goodnight, each filled with a sense of excitement for what the future held.
As Shubman walked to his room, he couldn't help but replay the moment in his mind, savouring the warmth of Kamari's smile and the promise of their first date together.
After bidding Shubman goodnight with a promise to see him tomorrow, Kamari practically floated back to her hotel room, her heart dancing with excitement.
She quickly changed into a cozy t-shirt and shorts, feeling relaxed and content after a wonderful day. Settling onto the bed, she grabbed her phone and dialled Iliana's number with a wide grin on her face.
The call connected, and Iliana's voice came through, slightly muffled. "Hey Kamari, what's up?"
"Oh my gosh, Iliana!" Kamari burst out, unable to contain her excitement. "You won't believe what just happened!"
Iliana laughed on the other end. "Okay, spill it. What's going on?"
"I went to the Met with Shubman today, and it was amazing," Kamari began, her words tumbling out in a rush. "And then, after the museum, he asked me out on a date!"
Iliana squealed in delight. "No way! That's fantastic, Kamari! I knew there was something between you two."
Kamari nodded enthusiastically, even though Iliana couldn't see her. "I know, right? It's like... I don't know, everything just feels so right."
Iliana chuckled. "I'm so happy for you, Kamari. New York City is truly working its magic on you."
"I know! It's been such a whirlwind," Kamari agreed. "But wait, there's more. You won't believe how he asked me..."
Suddenly, Kamari's voice trailed off as she heard a loud crash from Iliana's end of the line, followed by a flurry of hurried footsteps and muffled curses. "Iliana? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, yeah," Iliana replied breathlessly. "I just... knocked over a stack of books. Everything's fine."
Kamari couldn't help but laugh. "Typical Iliana chaos. Anyway, where was I? Oh, right! So Shubman and I were walking back to the hotel..."
As Kamari launched into a detailed retelling of the day's events, complete with animated gestures and exaggerated impressions of Shubman, Iliana listened intently, occasionally interjecting with gasps of excitement or words of encouragement.
The conversation soon devolved into giggles and inside jokes, the bond between the two friends strengthened by miles and time zones.
After recounting every detail and receiving Iliana's enthusiastic approval of Shubman, Kamari finally sighed contentedly. "I can't believe this is happening, Iliana. It's like a fairy tale."
Iliana's voice was warm with affection. "Well, you deserve it, Kamari. I'm so glad you're having the time of your life in New York."
"Thanks, Iliana," Kamari replied softly, feeling a rush of gratitude for her friend's unwavering support. "And don't worry, I'll keep you updated on everything."
"Please do," Iliana said with a laugh. "I need all the romantic details."
They continued chatting late into the night, their conversation meandering from Shubman to Iliana's adventures in Mumbai, and everything in between. As Kamari finally hung up, she couldn't help but smile.
