11. fashion show and beach day

A few weeks had passed since the chaotic dinner with Shubman's cricket buddies, and things had settled into a comfortable rhythm for Kamari and him. They were back in Mumbai now, both busy with their own work but always finding time for each other.

Kamari had just come back home after a long shopping spree with Iliana, Anushka Sharma, Natasa, Ritika Sajdeh, and Athiya Shetty. It had been a fun day—filled with laughter, fashion advice, and way too many bags to carry. She finally kicked off her shoes, sighing in relief as she dropped onto the couch.

Just as she was about to relax, Shubman walked out of the bedroom with a grin on his face. He had his phone in one hand and was scrolling through something, probably cricket stats or memes. He glanced up and his eyes lit up as he noticed the mountain of shopping bags next to Kamari.

"Whoa, did you buy the entire store or what?" he teased, walking over to her and plopping down beside her. "How many outfits did you buy?"

Kamari laughed, stretching out her legs. "Not that many! The girls just couldn't stop picking things out for me. You know how it is when you shop with a group—peer pressure is real."

Shubman raised an eyebrow, clearly not convinced. "Uh-huh. Sure. You know what this means, right?"

"What?" Kamari asked, sitting up a bit straighter, curiosity piqued by his tone.

Shubman smirked and leaned in closer, his voice low and playful. "Fashion show. You're gonna have to try on all those outfits for me. Every single one."

Kamari rolled her eyes, but there was a smile tugging at her lips. "Oh, come on. You're kidding."

"Do I look like I'm kidding?" Shubman leaned back, crossing his arms and giving her a cheeky grin. "I wanna see all of them. Show me what my girl's got. Let's go, babe. Strut your stuff."

Kamari groaned but couldn't help the laugh that escaped. "You are ridiculous. Fine, fine! But don't laugh if something looks weird."

"I promise I'll be on my best behaviour," he said, putting on a mock-serious expression that quickly broke into a grin. "Now, go get ready. I'm setting up a front-row seat."

With an exaggerated sigh, Kamari grabbed the bags and headed toward the bedroom. As she rummaged through the bags, she couldn't help but smile to herself. Shubman could be such a dork, but it was one of the things she adored about him.

After a few minutes, she emerged wearing the first outfit—a simple yet stylish pair of high-waisted jeans and a cropped sweater, paired with ankle boots. She walked into the living room with her hands on her hips, trying her best to give a runway-worthy pose.

Shubman, who was now seated on the edge of the couch like a judge at a fashion show, immediately started clapping. "Damn, babe! Look at you! That's some next-level stuff right there."

Kamari rolled her eyes but twirled anyway, showing off the outfit. "You're just saying that because you don't want to get in trouble."

"Nah, for real. You look amazing. But I need more. Show me the next one," Shubman said, waving his hand as if he were waving her back to the changing room.

Laughing, Kamari disappeared back into the bedroom. Outfit after outfit, she modelled everything for him—from a sleek black dress that hugged her curves to a cute sundress with floral patterns. With every outfit, Shubman's reactions grew more and more over the top.

When she came out in a stunning red jumpsuit, he stood up and practically whistled. "Holy shit, Kamari. Are you trying to kill me? That jumpsuit should be illegal."

Kamari laughed, feeling a bit flustered by the compliment. "Okay, now you're just exaggerating."

"Nope. No exaggeration. You look hot. Like, I need to make sure nobody else sees you in that," he joked, though there was a glint of pride in his eyes.

She shot him a playful look and disappeared back into the bedroom to change into the final outfit—a flowy white dress with delicate lace detailing.

It was elegant, with a touch of bohemian style, and it made her feel both graceful and carefree. As she walked out, her bare feet padding softly against the floor, Shubman's eyes widened.

"Wow," he said, standing up from the couch this time. His tone was softer, more genuine. "You look... absolutely beautiful, Kamari. Seriously. That's... that's perfect."

Kamari felt her cheeks flush as she twirled around slowly, the dress flowing around her. "You really like it?"

Shubman nodded, stepping closer to her, his hands finding her waist. "I love it. You're gorgeous, babe. Like, drop-dead gorgeous."

She smiled up at him, her heart fluttering at his words. "You're not just saying that because I did this whole fashion show, are you?"

He chuckled, leaning down to press a kiss to her forehead. "No, I'm saying that because it's true. You look amazing. Always."

Kamari wrapped her arms around his neck, standing on her tiptoes as she kissed him softly. "Thank you for putting up with all of this."

"Putting up with? Are you kidding?" Shubman laughed, pulling her closer. "This is the best damn part of my day."

"Well, then," Kamari smirked, leaning in closer, "maybe I'll have to go shopping more often."

Shubman grinned. "Please do. As long as I get front-row seats."

Kamari chuckled, shaking her head as she held onto Shubman a little tighter. "You're impossible, you know that?"

Shubman raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile on his lips. "Impossible? Babe, I'm just getting started. This fashion show was just a warm-up. Wait until I ask you to model the new pyjamas next time."

Kamari playfully swatted his chest. "Oh please, you'll just end up falling asleep halfway through."

Shubman shrugged, pretending to be deep in thought. "Hmm, maybe... but not if you're in them."

Kamari let out a groan, but her face betrayed her amusement as she shook her head at him. "You're lucky you're cute."

"I know. I use it to my full advantage." Shubman winked, planting another quick kiss on her lips before stepping back and taking her hand.

"Come on, let's grab something to eat. I'm starving after that show."

Kamari raised an eyebrow, laughing as she looked at him in disbelief. "You didn't do anything except sit there and watch me! How are you starving?"

Shubman gave her a mock-serious look. "Do you know how much energy it takes to watch your girlfriend be a total bombshell for like, an hour? Emotional exhaustion, babe. Emotional exhaustion."

Kamari rolled her eyes with a grin, but couldn't resist leaning in for one more quick kiss before heading to the kitchen with him. "Alright, drama king. Let's get some food before you faint."

Later that evening, after they'd eaten and relaxed on the couch together, Kamari found herself flipping through one of the new books she'd bought earlier. Shubman, sprawled out next to her with his head in her lap, was scrolling through his phone with a lazy smile on his face.

"You know," Shubman said absentmindedly, "I still can't get over how you look in that white dress. I'm just saying."

Kamari laughed softly, running her fingers through his hair. "You're not going to let that go, are you?"

"Not a chance," Shubman replied, turning his phone off and resting it on his chest. He looked up at her, his expression softening. "You really are amazing, Kam. I don't think I tell you that enough."

Kamari felt her heart swell at his words, and she placed the book aside, leaning down to press a soft kiss to his forehead. "You tell me every day, in a hundred little ways."

He smiled at that, reaching up to cup her face. "Still, it doesn't feel like enough."

Kamari felt her cheeks flush as she smiled down at him. "You're perfect, you know that?"

Shubman chuckled, pulling her closer. "Nah, I'm just a guy who got really, really lucky."

She leaned in and kissed him gently, savouring the quiet moment they shared. The world outside felt distant, and all that mattered was the two of them, wrapped up in the warmth of their connection.

Just as Kamari was about to pull back, Shubman's phone buzzed, breaking the spell. He groaned and reached for it, glancing at the screen. "Damn it... of course, it's Sai."

Kamari laughed softly and tried to move off his lap so he could answer, but Shubman tightened his hold on her waist, not letting her go. "Nope, you're staying right here."

Kamari raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you supposed to answer him?"

Shubman grinned mischievously. "I'll answer, but you're not going anywhere." He swiped to answer the call, holding the phone up to his ear. "Yo, Sai! What's up?"

Kamari could hear Sai's voice on the other end, loud and animated as always. "Bro, have you seen the lineup for next week? We're gonna crush it!"

"Yeah, man, I saw it. It's looking good," Shubman replied casually, still holding Kamari close as if she were an anchor. "But uh, listen, can we talk about this later? I'm kinda... in the middle of something."

"In the middle of what?" Sai asked, his voice suspicious.

Shubman glanced up at Kamari with a playful smile. "Just... chilling with Kamari, you know."

Sai let out a dramatic sigh. "Ah, of course. You and your girlfriend. Tell her I said hi, by the way."

Kamari smiled, whispering, "Hi, Sai."

Shubman relayed the message, grinning. "She says hi. Anyway, man, I'll catch up with you later, alright?"

"Fine, fine," Sai replied, his voice teasing. "Don't get too distracted, lover boy."

Shubman laughed. "No promises. Later, bro." He hung up the phone and tossed it aside, his attention immediately back on Kamari. "Now, where were we?"

Kamari giggled, tracing a finger along his jawline. "You were rambling, as usual."

"And you love it," Shubman said, pulling her down for a kiss.

The next morning, as they both lazily stirred awake, Shubman stretched out beside Kamari, the morning light filtering in through the window. He glanced over, catching her still half-asleep and cuddled into the pillow.

He grinned, brushing a strand of hair away from her face. "Hey, sleepyhead, what do you say we do something different today?"

Kamari blinked her eyes open, smiling groggily. "Like... what? Getting coffee isn't different anymore?"

He chuckled. "Nah, I was thinking... let's hit the beach. We've been cooped up all week, and it's perfect weather for it."

Kamari perked up at the idea, a smile spreading across her face. "The beach sounds amazing! I could use some sun and sand."

Shubman jumped out of bed, his energy on full display as he grabbed a beach towel and started packing. "Alright, let's go! Sunscreen, check. Snacks, check. And a big, comfy towel—extra-large for all your dramatic sunbathing needs."

Kamari laughed, following him around the room as he tossed random items into a beach bag. "You're acting like a kid going to the beach for the first time!"

"What can I say? I haven't had a proper beach day in forever," he said, grabbing her hand and pulling her close. "Besides, it'll be the first time I get to see my girl in a beach outfit."

She rolled her eyes but was still smiling. "Well, then you'd better get ready to be impressed."

After a quick breakfast and a mad dash to gather their things, they found themselves standing on the warm sands of Juhu Beach, the ocean stretching out in front of them, waves lapping gently at the shore.

Kamari took off her sandals, feeling the sand between her toes as she looked out at the sparkling blue sea. "It's perfect here."

Shubman, who was already shirtless and in his swim trunks, looked at her with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "It's perfect because you're here, sweetheart."

Kamari shook her head, a teasing smirk on her face as she took off her cover-up to reveal her beach outfit—a light, airy sundress with a bikini underneath. Shubman's eyes went wide, and he dramatically held a hand to his chest. "Alright, babe, you've officially made my day."

She laughed, grabbing a handful of sand and pretending to throw it at him. "Behave yourself! We're in public, remember?"

He laughed, dodging the sand. "Fine, fine! Let's just set up over there and get comfy."

They picked a spot close to the water, laying out their towels and settling in. As they sat down, Kamari leaned back, soaking in the warmth of the sun. Shubman watched her, a grin tugging at his lips. "So, ready to have a little fun?"

"What did you have in mind?" Kamari asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Oh, I don't know..." Shubman stood up, brushing off some sand before suddenly grabbing her hand and pulling her up. "How about a race to the water?"

Kamari laughed, feigning a sigh. "You're on!"

They took off, sand flying as they sprinted toward the waves, laughing all the way. Shubman reached the water first, letting out a whoop as he plunged in, the cool water splashing up around him. Kamari followed right behind, wading in and laughing as she splashed him playfully.

"Is that all you've got?" Shubman taunted, splashing back at her.

"Oh, you're in for it now!" Kamari splashed him harder, and soon they were in a full-blown splash fight, laughing and kicking water at each other like kids.

Eventually, out of breath from laughing, they waded back to their towels, collapsing on the warm sand. Kamari lay back, her arms stretched out as she gazed up at the sky.

Shubman leaned over, brushing a wet strand of hair from her face. "You're like my own little ray of sunshine, you know that?"

Kamari chuckled, her cheeks pink from the sun—and maybe a little from his words, too. "You're such a dork, but I love you for it."

Shubman smiled, pressing a quick kiss to her forehead. "Dork or not, I'm never getting tired of this." He glanced around as if making sure no one could hear. "But don't tell the team I said that—I've got a reputation to maintain, you know?"

Kamari snorted. "Your secret's safe with me."

They spent the day lounging, talking, and running back to the water whenever they got too warm. As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, casting a golden glow over the beach, Shubman sat up, watching her with a thoughtful expression.

Kamari noticed, sitting up beside him. "What's on your mind?"

Shubman shrugged, a little grin on his face. "I don't know. Just thinking about how lucky I am to be here with you, to have these little moments."

Kamari smiled, nudging him playfully. "Keep talking like that, and I might have to keep you around forever."

"Oh, that's the plan, babe," Shubman replied, leaning over to kiss her as the waves crashed gently beside them, the setting sun casting a golden glow around them.
