Chapter 4

Tyler's POV

"Nawa o, the man's speech was way too long. This is just the first day and we are just adjusting to the whole prefect saga. Abeg, he should give us a breathing space." Charles lamented as we left the prefects meeting and I chuckled, watching as Joel Zaria, Lyla and Kelvin went further. Ada had stayed back to have a discussion with the vice principal.

"Well, you really don't have any work to do until social events of the school start. As for me, I have to work every Monday, Wednesday and Fridays which are sport days, especially Friday." I told him and he nodded.

"Well, you have a point there. You even have swim team try outs to look forward to on Friday. Have students started signing up?" He asked me and I nodded.

"Yes. Last time I went down stairs to check the sign up sheet on the notice board, I already thirty names up. Too bad we only need 15 new people. It would be more stressful because Imisi isn't resuming till next week." Imisi was the female sport prefect.

"I'm sure you can handle it." Charles winked at me and I mustered up a fake grimace at him, shoving my hand into my trouser pockets. My mind began to drift off to the girl from earlier.

She looked angry, hurt, frustrated and sad all in one expression. It was pretty hard to tell what was going on with her. I was actually pretty concerned, it was in my nature but she just had to ruin it by being so rude.

How can you be meeting someone for the very first time and have a nasty attitude towards that person?

Someone needs to the talk her about her attitude.

"Guy, did you hear?" Charles' voice interrupted my reverie and I looked at him confusing.

"Hear what?" I asked him.

"Joel's ex is here." He revealed and my face contoured in a frown.

"I don't understand. Joel's ex is here, as in she's in Lagos or Joel's ex is here as in she here in school?" I asked him for clarification. He rolled his eyes at me.

"Joel's ex is here as in she just resumed to this school, as a new student!" He clarified and my eyes widened in surprise.

"Med o." I blinked, still trying to wrap my head around that fact. "That's quite a lot." I stated and Charles nodded.

"I'm surprised you didn't hear. He mentioned it during the meeting when V.P was on a phone call." Charles said and I shrugged.

"You know I am always in my own world whenever I get the opportunity to zone off." I teased and he rolled his eyes, getting back to the discussion at hand.

"That's not even the worst part of it. The babe is in our class." Charles dropped another bomb and I scoffed out a laugh.

"That seems pretty coincidental." I stated with a shrug and Charles nodded eagerly.

"I've been looking at possibilities all morning and I came to the conclusion that she planned it." Charles said and I looked at him with a furrowed eyebrow, silently asking him to explain further. And he did.

"The babe must be on a mission because if I remember correctly, Joel told us that she was in science class back in their old school. How is she in technical class now? Abeg, she planned it. I will give it to her, she has balls." Charles said and I laughed.

"On another hand, it might actually be coincidental." I shrugged, trying not to judge the said girl. Charles didn't seem satisfied with my reply and shook his head vigorously.

"Coincidental how?" He was looking at me like I had grown two heads. "Okay, let's say moving to Lagos is pretty coincidental. It might have been her parents." He started and I corked my head left and right before I nodded.

"Yes, no one has control over that." I simply stated.

"Good. But enrolling in the same school as your ex and for some reasons, being in his class..." Charles had an undertone in his voice for emphasis. I sighed, seeing his point.

"Tyler, you'd agree with me that it's pretty sketchy."

"I guess you are right." I told him and he smiled. "But, she hasn't started causing any trouble, has she? That's when we will know for sure that she's here for trouble." I stated and Charles let out a scoff.

"As if her coming here isn't trouble enough. You must sha see the good in everyone. I'm already exhausted talking to you." Charles said and I laughed. "But on a low sha, the babe is actually fine!" Charles chirped and I smirked at him.

"Now, who is seeing the good in someone?" I teased him and he smirked back.

"I have eyes na. When I see fine babe, I sabi fine babe." He said in pidgin and I laughed again.

The friends I have though.

"Have you heard from Taju lately?" Charles asked and I shook my head.

Taju was our friend. He wasn't available this session because unlike us, he into early college in Spain. He had gone over before resumption to get everything set and to attend orientation. He said he'd be back early next year for a bit before his school officially starts.

"Baba is just balling over there. I can't wait for him to get back next year." Charles ranted and I rolled my eyes.

"You can't wait but you will have to wait, bro. It's inevitable." I smirked and walked away with him cussing several profanities behind for being such a kill joy.

****

"Tyler, come here with the list." The Sport teacher, Mr Smith called to me and I walked towards him with the sign up shit.

It was Friday and swim team try out day. At Limelight, the last four periods of the day was dedicated to sports. Most students were scattered around the sporting complex, playing one game or the other.

Most of the senior guys were on the field,  playing football, some in the basket ball court  as well and the girls in the volley ball court. Some, obviously SS2 girls, just decided to parade themselves in their short and tight sport wear, walking around the field aimlessly. I chuckled at that.

Never gets old watching them try to get the attention.

"How many seniors and juniors are on the list? Because if we need 15 members, we need to divide as equal as possible." Mr Smith's voice jerked me out of my reverie and I looked at the list.

"We have eleven juniors and nineteen seniors. Which means, majority of the seniors might be cut off." I told him, looking through the list. A name caught my eyes and I squinted, doing a double check at the name.

Tiana Dakoba.

The name sounds so familiar, yet I cannot place my finger on it.

I squinted, trying to remember where I have heard the name from before but was interrupted when I heard footsteps. I looked up to see students trooping in, obviously here for try outs. Someone immediately caught my eyes immediately she walked in, that familiar aura of confidence around her.

Rude girl. I smirked. She hasn't seen me yet and I bet she would be mortified when she does. The thought of it alone made me chuckle.

"I'm going to check up on the girls at the volley ball court. Can you handle this on your own? I can send Joel to help you." Mr Smith said and I looked at him, nodding in appreciation.

"I'd really appreciate that sir. Thank you." I stated and he nodded back, walking away.

I  picked the clipboard and went to where the students were seated on the bleachers. I cleared my throat to get their attention, especially rude girl's but her eyes were so fixates on her phone. I rolled my eyes and looked at the rest of the students.

"Hi guys. I'm Tyler Adebiyi-Williams and I'm your Sport prefect boy as well as the captain of the swim team." Rude girl looked up at that introduction and her eyes met mine. I felt a smirk quirk against my lips when I saw her eyes widen and heard her mutter a cuss word.

I told y'all she'd be mortified.

"I'm glad you all signed up for the team but unfortunately there are only fifteen slots available on this team so fifteen of you will not to be picked, I apologize in advance." I stated. Suddenly I heard a groan, a groan that caught everyone's attention that we all looked to the direction it came from.

Rude girl.

"Is there any problem?" I asked her calmly and she rolled her eyes at me, giving me a bored look.

"Can we skip the boring sermon and get on with the tryouts. I have places to be." She stated rudely, eliciting murmurs from the other students.

"Actually, no we can't skip the boring talk. You have to seat and listen to this talk." I told her matter-of-factly.

"And I would do that because?" She sassed and I squinted at her, suddenly annoyed at her attitude.

"Because I'm your team captain and if you really want to be on this team, you will do as I say. Kapish?" She looked surprised at my mini outburst but she sat back down, looking away from me. I smiled.

"Now that we have settled that minor disturbance..." I could feel her glare but I ignored her. "Let's move on to how we are going to go about this try outs" I told them.

I spent another five minutes talking to them before asking them to go change to their trunks in the locker room. While they were gone, Joel came in sweating and panting. He definitely just finished playing football. He glared at me and I smirked.

"You owe me for dragging me off the field. That match was on point. I already won five goals!" He lamented and I shoved him a bit.

"So you can't help a friend abi? After everything have done for you." I settled for the old guilt trip method. He hissed at me.

"Abeg, leave that one." He said. "What's up with the team? Are they coming through." He asked me and I shrugged.

"We haven't even started. I just told them to go change to their trunks. There is this very rude chic though. She's been giving me a hard time all week." I groaned in frustration and Joel laughed.

"Maybe she likes you." Joel shrugged and I grimaced.

"Please no. I don't want abeg." I replied, shaking my head. The students started coming out of the locker room and I saw rude girl come out as well, wearing a shower cap. I didn't want to admit it...

...but she looked really hot.

"That's the rude chic I was talking about." I told Joel, nodding towards her. I watched Joel look up from the sign up shit to the direction of where I nodded and widened his eyes.

"Why am I not surprised that she's the one." He hissed, looking away and I frowned.

"What do you mean? Was she rude to you as well?" I asked and he looked at me.

"You really don't know her?" He asked me and I shook my head in confusion.

"Not at all, who is she?" I asked..

"That's Tiana Dakoba. My ex." He said and my eyes widened automatically.

"That's your ex?!" I whisper-yelled and at the same time, a light bulb went on in my head.

That's why the name sounded so familiar.

A/N

Another Brawl between our main characters. Med o! It's like Tiana really has something against Tyler or maybe she doesn't like him because he's in the Joel and Zaria gang. Which do you think is the reason?

But Tyler definitely showed her who is boss.

Things are about to get more interesting. Don't forget to vote, comment and share.
