Chapter 18
Tyler's POV
You know that fear that grips you when mummy or daddy catches you stealing a piece of meat from the pot of soup? Yup, that's the way I felt when I realized my dad actually walked in on me and Tiana, kissing. Talk about awkward.
Tiana was already on her feet, looking down like there was something interesting on the floor. I stood up and looked at my dad, who surprisingly was smirking knowingly.
"Dad. I didn't hear you come in." I said. He walked into the room and nodded.
"You sure didn't. You were busy, I saw that." He smiled and looked at Tiana. She, sensing his gaze on her looked up.
"Good evening sir." She stuttered out.
"Good evening, my dear. How are you." He said good naturedly. Tiana looked from my dad to me then back to my dad.
"I'm fine sir." She forced out. She was playing with her fingers and I could sense she was nervous. I was too.
"What your name dear?" He asked her.
"Tiana Dakoba." Tiana replied. I looked at Dad and saw him nod his head in approval.
"What a beautiful name for a beautiful lady like you. It's very nice to meet you." He smiled and I frowned. What has gotten into my dad?
Naturally, African parents will kill you if they walked in on you kissing anyone. Why is my dad smiling like he he approved of what he just caught me doing? Not like it was bad, but African parents would never understand.
You better be thanking you stars he isn't sending her out. My subconscious told me.
"Dad." I called him, cocking my head to the side to signal him that he had to leave. Tiana was getting a bit more uncomfortable. Fortunately, he got the signal.
"I should leave you guys. I'd be downstairs." He smiled at Tiana and winked at me before walking off, closing the door behind him. The room settled in an uncomfortable silence. I walked up to Tiana and held her forearm.
"You okay?" I looked at her searching her eyes. She nodded, still looking shy.
"I'm fine. Just a lite flushed. Still surprised your dad didn't send me out. That happens all the time." She chuckled uneasily.
"Naturally all African parents will certainly do that." I said to ease her worries. She looked up to meet my eyes.
"Your dad seems really nice tho. Not the way you described him." She whispered.
"He is trying to make amends but I'm not making it easy for him. He hurt me for six years. Everything can't go back to normal in just a few weeks. Especially when he got rid of my admission letter and form. That was my ticket out." I told her and she nodded, in understanding.
"At least he is trying to make amends." She repeated and I scoffed.
"If he can get me another Admission letter and form, maybe I'll reconsider." I said in sarcasm and Tiana laughed. I watched her, an unconscious smile spreading across my lips.
"Tyler," She called softly, looking into my eyes. I watched her.
"You need to be grateful for what you have. You have a father that wants to correct his errors and that's amazing. I can't remember when last I saw my parents. I don't even think they can remember my birthday or the class I am in." She looked away. Tiana was giving me a hint on what was going on with her.
"Tiana..." I trailed off. She looked outside and saw it was getting darker.
"I should get going. It's getting really late." Tiana pulled away from me and picked her bag. I sighed. When will she learn to trust me enough to tell me more?
"Yeah. Come on." I took her hand and together walked downstairs. I saw dad sitting in the living room, watching TV. He looked up when he heard footsteps.
"Ahh, Tiana. You are leaving." He smiled. Tiana Nodded, smiling back.
"It's getting late. My folks would be waiting for me." She said when I knew for a fact that there was no one waiting for her at home, maybe just her nasty sister Ciara.
"Okay then, that is understandable. Hope you will be coming here often." He stated. She looked at me and I nodded.
"Yes sir." She replied.
"Do you know, you are the first girl Tyler is bringing to this house? Well apart from his friends." He smirked my way and I groaned.
"Okay, that's enough embarrassment for today. Tiana you have to go." I took her hand. She was laughing with my dad.
"Good night sir." She called.
"Good night dear." Dad replied and I pulled her out of the house.
"Well that was embarrassing." I smirked, facing her when we got out of the house. The sun was setting and the sky was in a beautiful colour.
"You dad is really harmless. I like him. You should give him another chance." Tiana said and I sighed.
"I should get you home..." I started but she interrupted.
"I can get home all on my own. You have to make things right with your dad. He is trying so hard to make things right with you." She moved closer to me and brought her hand to stroke my cheek. "You should thankful for the fact that you still have him. My own parents are as good as dead." She chuckled bitterly.
"Tiana, please talk to me. So much codes and hints." I told him and she nodded.
"Soon. Very soon, I promise. Just promise me you will make things right with your dad." She was searching my eyes and it felt my eyes were seeing straight to my soul. I nodded in affirmation.
"I promise." I whispered. We walked out of the gate and I faced her again. She chuckled.
"What?" I asked
"I'm the first girl you have brought to your house, apart from Zaria, Lyla and Ada... uhn." She smiled.
"I thought we already established that fact when I told you, you are my first kiss." My lips spread in a smile.
"Then it is such an irony that you are my best kiss. That won't be the last right?" She looked at me. I moved closer to her until we were just couples of centimeters apart from each other.
"Is that an invitation to kiss you again?" I whispered as my head slowly dipped.
"Uhn.. Uhn." She whispered back as she tiptoed and met me halfway, pressing her lips against mine while my hands wrapped against the small of her back to pull her closer, her hands moving to cup my face in them.
Our lips moved in synch. Her hand played with the hair on my neck and I growled. I slipped my tongue into her mouth when she moaned. I pulled her closer, crushing every space in between us, tugging and biting on her lips. She moaned again and I smiled against her lips.
I think I'm gonna get used to this.
After a while, I pulled away slightly, breathlessly.
"You should get going..." I whispered huskily, resting my face in the hollow of her neck. I felt her heavy breathing against my chest.
"Yeah." She said, pulling away. I stepped back slightly and watched her turn and started to walk away. I watched her. Suddenly she stopped, turned and started walking back to me.
"What..." I trailed off as she reached me.
"One more time." She whispered, pulled my head down to miss her and pressed her lips to mine. I chuckled and kissed her back. I crouched lower and picked her up, her legs wrapped around my waist while my hand went under her bum. I pecked her lips, slowly and sensually, pulling, tugging and biting, her fingers doing things to my skin.
As I pulled away, I tugged on her lower lips, earning a low moan from her. I slowly dropped her, hand going to her lower back. I touched my forehead to hers as I tried to even my breathing. My hand went to her face, tracing the outlines with my finger tips.
"Trust me, Tiana. Please." I whispered.
"I trust you. I promise to tell you. Just give me time." She replied. I nodded slowly. I pulled her closer and hugged her closely, holding her tight. She hugged me back the same way. Soon she pulled back and I kissed her forehead softly.
"Good night." She said.
"Sweet dreams." I replied. She completely pulled away. I sighed as a smile played on my lips and I started to walk back to the house. I entered and met my dad grinning at me.
"What?" I asked him.
"You really like her." He simply said.
"Were you watching us?" I asked him, folding my hand across my chest with a frown creased across my face.
"I couldn't resist." He said and I scoffed, walking past him but his next words stopped me.
"I want to be part of this crucial part of your life, Tyler. I might be a little bit late for that but I'm asking for a second chance. Please" He pleaded. I sighed but didn't turn around. I heard him exhale behind me then shuffles of paper.
"I went to the Art Academy." He started, shocking me. I turned around abruptly and looked at him. He was holding an envelope in his hand. "Because of your mum's legacy, I was able to pull a few strings and got you another admission form." He stretched the envelope to me but I was too shocked to take it.
He did what?!
"What?!" I exclaimed and he nodded.
"I'm sorry for trying to take away something that you love just because it reminds me of your mum." He sniffed and I knew he was trying not to cry.
"I'm sorry for everything, T-Boy." He called me the nickname he used to call me when I was growing out and I felt overwhelmed with emotions, my eyes welling up in tears.
"When your mum died, it was the saddest moment of my life. I loved her so much and the fact that she was taken away from me so early broke me." He paused for effect. "Then I began to see more of her in you and it just couldn't handle it. I couldn't_
But it's not excuse for what I did. For all the neglect. It's not an excuse at all. I'm sorry, Tyler. Please give me another chance to make things right." He concluded, cleaning his tear stained face while I stood there, tears cascading down my eyes.
He stretched the envelope to me and I took it with shaky hands.
"Your art is amazing." He said. "Just like your mother's." He added and I chuckled, even through my tears.
"Thank you, Dad."
*****
Tiana's POV.
"Where the fuck are you coming from at this time?" Ciara snapped immediately I entered the house. I closed to the door and made my way to the fridge to get a bottle of water. I downed it in a gulp.
"Since when did you start to care if I come home early or not?" I asked her.
"I asked you a question, Tiana. Where have you been? And don't dare lie to me because I will know." She glared at me.
"I was at Tyler's. The hangout ended early and I didn't just want the day to end without spending more time with him so I went home with him and we had a very nice time." I told her curtly, not mincing words. Ciara let out a strain laugh, fire blazing in her eyes. She's definitely high.
"You lied to me. You have feelings for him, don't you?" She asked me. I couldn't keep lying about my feelings. She doesn't rule my life, I'm old enough to make my decisions.
"Yes I have feelings for him, what are you gonna do about it? It's my life, Ciara. I get to fall whoever I want to fall for and you don't get to dictate for me." I snapped at her and immediately she slapped me. My face jerked sideways, my hand flying to the spot she slapped me. My face felt hot. I looked back at her. Her eyes was blazing hot and I knew she was pissed.
"How dare talk to me that way? King was right about what he saw today. He said you were already soft." She growled at me.
"You knew King was here all along. You told him where I was didn't you? I should have known! You bitch!!" I screamed at her and she slapped me on my second cheek.
"You will respect me because I am the only family you have got and you will do as I say. You think Tyler can fall for a slut like you? Wait till he finds out about all your secrets and deep addictions. I highly doubt if he would stay." She growled at me.
"You don't know Tyler and I don't even care anymore. You have damaged me. Do your worse." I spat in her face and started to walk away.
"Get back here you little bitch!" I heard her scream.
"Make me!" I snapped back and locked the door of my room, leaning against my closed door. I dragged my back down the door, bursting into tears.
What do I do, God?
