Chapter 13

Tiana's POV

"You didn't tell me you were coming home." I told Ciara for the umpteenth time since she came which has been an entire week. I expected her to come and go like always but it seemed like she was sticking around this time.

Great! Cue the sarcasm.

"Am I supposed to tell you I'm coming home. This house is mine as much as it's yours, baby sis. Plus, I wanted to surprise you." Ciara smiled.

"Well, you did surprise me." I muttered. She whined and came behind me wrapping her hands around my waist.

"You sound like you ain't happy to see me." She pouted. I shrugged her off and moved away.

"I didn't say that. I'm just surprised you are here, that's all. I was already getting accustomed to being at home all by my self." I told her.

"Still you don't sound to happy to see me. Plus you have been avoiding me since I came. Why?" She asked.

"I've just been really busy with school work and all. I'm in my finally year of high school, Ciara. I can't sit around and do nothing. I have to use my time well. You wouldn't know that. You dropped out of school and went off the grid. You are lucky mum and dad don't know." I told her and she frowned.

"They don't know because they never actually cared. I'm having the time of my life and I love what I'm doing now. It's fetching me a lot of money." She said, glaring at me.

"Being a stripper isn't a decent job. You go he with men every night to satisfy their bed. You can as well be a prostitute. There isn't much difference." I rolled my eyes.

"Okay...I really don't know what crawled up your ass this past months that I was away but you have changed because you never complained about me being a stripper. You even hailed me." She snapped.

"Well, things change, big sis." I replied her.

"Enough of this. You are probably stressed put or something. What's going on in school? How's our little plan on how to get Joel back to you going?" Her eyes flashed with mischief. I hissed and left the kitchen to go to the living room. She followed behind.

"Well..." She asked, urging me to tell her.

"I quit." I simply told her and I saw her widen her eyes. I looked away and focused on the TV

"You are joking." She said.

"I'm serious. I'm tired of sprawling a competition that is meaningless. I can't get Joel back and I'm definitely not trying to because it very obviously he is in love with Zaria. Besides what's the point?" I hissed again.

"You are just giving up, after everything. Wait...does your change of mind have to do with that Tyler dude. It definitely has to do with him, why am I even asking. You have been spending an awful lot of time with him and that's bullshit." She snarled at me.

"Ciara how is this doing you. It's my own life and my own choice. It doesn't concern you. This has nothing to do with Tyler, but what if it does? How is that your god damn business?" I snapped at her.

Ciara closed in on me and looked me in the eye, menacely. I could suddenly smell alcohol and cocaine in her breath and I scrunched my nose at the stench. It was strong.

Ciara is on drugs?! I thought, getting scared because if she was drugs, it makes her dangerous. She could go berserk and beat me to death, who knows

"So you now have the guts to defile my orders. You are becoming soft, Tiana and I would not have that. You will listen to whatever I say and you will follow everyone of my orders, you understand?!" She growled and I didn't answer.

"I said, DO YOU UNDERSTAND!!" She screamed and I flinched.

"Yes." I whimpered.

"Good. Now, since Tyler is Joel's friend, you will use that to get close to their clique. Make sure they buy the fact that you are 'changed' and come between Joel and Zaria. Do it in a way that you make sure they never get back together." She said.

"What exactly is my gain in this?" I muttered.

"That happiness when you see two love birds fall apart. You've always wanted that. You never experienced love and you never will, Tiana. So don't let others around you experience it to." She replied with a malicious smile playing on her lips.

She walked away from me and went to the table, pulling out a white paper for the pocket of her shorts. She opened it and I saw a white content. She spread it on the table and lowered her face to sniff it. She jerked her head up as a laughter like that of a lunatic erupted from her mouth. She was sniffing cocaine.

I plopped down on the chair and silently let the tears fall. My sister was broken.

And so was I.

Tyler's POV

Cultural night.

I was checking myself in the mirror, dressed in my wine ankara material that I had sewn into a blazer and pants style with a black turtle neck as the inner. Tiana and I picked up the colour last weekend and she helped me pick a style, said I would look really nice in it.

And she was right. I look really handsome. I smirked at my reflection. I was so going to Impress Tiana.

"You look really handsome." A voice came behind me. I could see him from the mirror leaning on the door way. I glanced over my shoulder at him.

"Thank you." I replied curtly and turned back to accessing myself in the mirror. I heard him sigh and walk into the room.

"Tyler, I know we are not on good terms and our father-son relationship is practically shaking..." He trailed off when I shot him a mean look. "...you might not believe me but I care a great deal about you." He said and I chuckled with sarcasm.

"Yeah, you are right. I don't believe you because you obviously don't care about my feelings or about me in general and even if you do, you have a very odd way of showing it." I turned back to the mirror.

"Tyler, please don't make this hard. You know I would never disrespect your mother. I know in was wrong by forgetting her anniversary but..." I cut him off.

"Did you do anything to make up for it?" I asked him and he was mute. "Of course. Dad, six years! Four good years since mum died and not once did you visit her. Fine, you forgot and every single time I reminded you but not once did you feel remorse about your actions. Instead of making up for it you decided to keep burying her memories."

"And then..." I let out a mocking laughter. "You tore the admission letter and form to the school of my dreams! Why? Because you feel it reminds you of mum. Whereas, you have forgotten her." I told him and he shook his head.

"I haven't forgotten your mother." He stated, his tone genuine and I flashed him a sarcastic smirk.

"You could have fooled me." I replied and he sighed.

"Tyler, I'm just trying to make amends." He said.

"You have a very shitty way of showing it." I told him and he kept quiet. I sighed and turned around.

"I forgive you for ruining the one thing I ever loved. But Dad, you don't make amends in one day. And I don't have to tell you the things to do to change. Figure them out on your own." I picked up my phone and the car keys.

"I don't want my night to be ruined. I have to leave. I'm already running late to pick up my date." I told him, picked up my over night bag since we were all sleeping over at the school and brushed past him. He didn't stop me.

Nothing is gonna ruin my night.

It's just you and me Tiana.

I packed in front of her house and made my way into the compound and to the front door. I pressed the door bell and waited for a few minute before I pressed it again. I heard foot steps and the door knob turned, the door opening to reveal someone I have never met before since I've been visiting Tiana but from her face, I could make out that she is probably related to Tiana cos of the shriking resemblance, only that this one was lighter.

"Yes?" She remarked rather in a rude way, giving me a one over that made me uneasy. I cleared my throat and gave her a smile.

"Hi. I'm Tyler. I'm here to pick up Tiana. We are supposed to go together to the cultural night." I told her and she gave me another one over.

"Ohhh. You are the guy she won't stop yapping about. I'm not impressed..." She smirked. I raised my eyebrows at her rudeness.

Did I offend her the past life?

"What?" I asked, clearly lost.

"Ciara, please don't tell me you are embarrassing my date." I heard Tiana's voice and I heaved a sigh of relief and the same time my heart picked up in beat.

"I was just welcoming him. Right Tycoon?" She smiled at me but it had fake written all over it. She even got my name wrong.

"It's Tyler actually." I corrected her and she rolled her eyes at me. Tiana finally came into view and I swear, I couldn't breath.

She's taking your breath away.

She was in the same thing wine colour of wine native I was but her own was a lace material. It was a fit and flare high low gown that clung to her body, outlining her curves in the right place. Her hair was styled beautifully and her face was made up in nude that made her dark complexion pop out the more. Her lips...gosh. It looked so plump with the nude matte lipstick and line with a wine lipstick as well.

Damn!

"Wow." Was the only word that came out if my mouth. I saw her look away with a shy smile playing on her lips.

"Hey." She practically squeaked out.

"You look beautiful." I said. Her smile broadened.

"Thank you. You look really good looking. First time I'm seeing you in traditional wear." She teased and I scrunched up my face in a mock frown.

"Don't get used to it." I winked and she giggled.

"Are you some making goggly eyes at each other because making me wanna puke." Ciara rolled her eyes again and Tiana shot her a dirty look.

"We will be on our way. Don't forget to lock up, you know I'm not coming back home tonight." Tiana told her sister.

"Let's go Tyler." She took my hand and started to pull away.

"Nice to meet you, Ciara." I smiled at her.

"I can't say I feel the same." She grimaced and walked in. I smirked and turned back to Tiana.

"Your sister doesn't seem to like me." I told her. Tiana sighed and looked at me. I smiled back at her.

"I'm sorry for her behaviour. Ciara is an handful." She replied and I nodded. We got to the care and I opened the door for her. She thanked me and I went to the driver's side and entered. I didn't start the car immediately though because I noticed her mood had changed a bit.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked her, concern written all over my face. She opened her mouth to speak but closed it again. I turned to face her completely and took her hand in mine.

"You can talk to me." I assured her.

"I'm just nervous." She admitted. "Your friends would be there. I'm not sure I can face them." She added and I nodded.

"I understand and it's okay to feel that way." I started, my gaze not leaving hers. "But I'm here and if you are not okay with something just let me know. Okay?" She responded with a nod.

"Now smile." I grinned and she let out a heart chuckle. "There it is. We are okay."

"We are okay..." She repeated. Without thinking it true, I leaned over and pressed a kiss to her forehead. I don't know why I made that move but I just needed to calm her down and from the way I heard her sigh, I knew she was already calm.

I pulled back and looked her in the eyes.

"Forget about it. We are going to have fun tonight." I told her and she smiled nodding. I started the car and began to drive.

Tonight is to have fun. Nothing more.
