"You know you should start sleeping in your own bed. I didn't give you that room for nothing." Varun said trying to get his daughter off him who was laying almost on top of him.
"Don't you like cuddling with me?" she asked as her grip got tighter on him.
"I do." he chuckled wrapping his arm around her tiny waist.
"But you know daddy needs to have a little privacy of his own." he told her.
Speaking of privacy, he wasn't getting any since the arrival of Rhea. Drinking and smoking, it was all of a limit now and one-night stands were a far cry.
The only time he got to himself was when Rhea's sleeping but now he wasn't even getting that due to Rhea's continuous demand of sleeping with him.
He thought bringing Shraddha here will divert her mind and it did but his daughter was just too attached to him that he hardly gets alone. Having a company was something he never imagined. To have someone by your side, to have someone waiting for you when you return home.
"Daddy?" she whispered as her face was buried in his neck and he hummed in response.
"Are you and Shraddha married?" she asked and he wasn't shocked by her sudden question. He saw that coming since he called shraddha his wife at the party.
"No princess. We aren't." he replied softly and he felt her move as she sat up on bed.
"Then why did you call her your wife?" she asked crossing her arms across her chest.
He looked at her blankly, trying to come up with an excuse before he sat up on the bed and pulled her onto his lap.
"Princess, you're right! I called her my wife but that doesn't mean we are married. I had to call her my wife in front of those people." he told her and from her face he knew she wasn't getting a single thing.
"Why?" she asked as she looked up at him and he cleared his throat before speaking.
"So she doesn't feel left out. You know . . . since she's staying with us, people will ask who's she? And she's like a mother to you so it'll be appropriate to refer her as my wife." he knew that it was the lamest excuse he came up with but again try explaining to a five-year-old then we'll talk.
"Appro-what?" she frowned at him and he chuckled.
"Appropriate baby. And you know it will be awkward if she stays here without any relation. People will gossip." he said.
"So you guys aren't married?" she asked again and for a minute he felt like she wanted them to be married.
"No it's just an act." he replied.
"Like playing house?" she asked and he nodded. He was glad how she took it all in a positive way.
"Fuck!" Sara cursed under her breath as she closed her eyes shut in frustration. It was the third time her phone went off in a single minute and she didn't have the courage to pick it up.
"Yes!" she almost yelled when she heard a knock on her cabin door.
"Woah, someone's not in a good mood today." Kartik said poking his head inside the room.
"Come in." she said with a small smile.
"Everything okay?" he asked as he approached her and sat on the table in front of her.
"Y-eah. . . Just a little exhausted." she said rubbing her hand over her face when her phone again went off.
She kept staring at the phone blankly until kartik snapped his fingers in front of her.
"Aren't you gonna take it?" he asked pointing to the position where her phone was placed.
"No... It's not important." she shook her head.
"How do you know? You haven't checked yet!" he raised an eyebrow at her.
"Does it matter? Anyways, it has stopped ringing." she rolled her eyes at him.
"You're acting weird lately! Is everything alright?" he asked her.
"Weird? Yeah right. Got bored of me already?" she snapped.
"What? Where the hell did that come from?" he narrowed his eyes at her when her phone again went off. He looked at her before reaching for the phone and taking it in his hands.
"Kartik! Give me my phone back!" she raised her voice slightly as she tried to get her phone out of his grip.
"Let me see who's this desperate person." he looked at the screen and immediately got confused.
"Why have you saved 'Jackass' for a person?" he asked her as she finally managed to get her phone back.
"You don't need to know everything." she said and walked out of the room as kartik stood there confused.
Varun returned early from the office this evening and was looking forward to spend some quality time with Rhea but the house was quite which was unusual in his case.
Rhea usually watch Disney movies in the evening with her sing-along tradition which includes everyone singing with her to those Disney songs.
Varun went upstairs and moved towards Rhea's room and could easily hear the giggles from a distant coming from inside the room. He slowly went inside and was both shocked and amazed to see the scenario in front of him.
"Whoa Whoa.... What's going on in here?" he asked seeing his daughter covered in paints along with Shraddha.
"We are reinventing my room!" Rhea exclaimed excitedly and varun looked at her confused.
"Renovating Rhea!" Shraddha corrected and varun couldn't help but chuckle.
"Why? I mean-- your room was perfect." he said to which shraddha rolled her eyes.
"Her whole room was a combination of grey and black." shraddha stated.
"So? Every room in this house is grey and black." he shrugged his shoulder.
"She's a kid si-- I mean varun..." she gave him an apologetic look and he smiled a little bit.
"Those colors gave her room a scary look. Kids like bright colors. That's why she always insist to sleep with you every night." she told him and varun looked on.
"Besides, she likes pink!" she said handing him a bucket of paint and a roller. He smiled before he removed his coat and joined them in painting the wall.
